1 Stars: I would never go back... (by susieqqq)

I'll preface this by saying I'm not Indian, so maybe I just don't understand, but the food was not appetizing at all. The menu is very slim and basically their "specialties" are an Indian version of a quesadilla. So, for $12, you get a quesadilla with chickpeas in it? They were also very dry, so you had to drench them in yogurt sauce in order not to choke on them. The only thing we liked was the curry that was delivered with the "quesadilla".

In addition to this, the ambiance was not good AT ALL. The waitstaff seemed to not be managed by anyone. They were blaring rock music from a CD that was skipping and it was so loud that I even made a joke about how "Indian" the music sounded (which it wasn't) and they thought it was funny and turned it up. There were flies around our table and I just didn't get a sense that it was really clean.

In any case, we won't be back. I'd rather drive over the bridge and go for Indian that I know will be good every time.

5 Stars: Preets is hands down the best Indian food in the Western US. (by IndianFoodLUVER)

Though Preets is a vegetarian restaurant, you will still love it even if you love meat. The food is delicious and cheap. I recommend the mulai kofta, as well as the daal and palak paneer. The appetizers are also very good as well. The waitstaff is friendly and do the best that they can given how few waiters there are for that many tables. When it's really busy there can be a bit of a wait, but most of the time it's nothing but speedy and efficient service. Some people have complained about the required tip for parties of 5 or more. I would just like to point out that that is common to most restaurants, and it's important to tip for any service (great or mediocre) because it's courteous and that is how these busy waiters and waitresses make money. I always recommend this restaurant to my friends. Meat loves, die-hard vegetarians and even some of my Indian friends have sworn by Preets. Go!

1 Stars: Drastic drop in quality (by Suren)

I agree with the previous review about the quality of food. The food I had ordered seemed to be stale. They smelled clearly. The koftas and gulab jamuns used to be the main attractions of this place. Not anymore I guess. The last two times I ordered them, they were really hard to bite into and tasted bad too. Sad to see the drastic drop in quality.

1 Stars: Uncooked food and food gone bad served (by delhite)

I used to frequent this place and yesterday I took my family from out of town there hoping for a great dinner. Even though I had noticed the fall in standards in the quality of food in the last few visits, I wanted to believe that they were probably those one off days. But yesterdays visit has left a very bad taste in my mouth. The paneer pakoras were uncooked. WE could taste the chickpea four in the pakoras. In the main course, we were actually served food that had gone bad. I had ordered for Saag and makki ki roti. The saag had gone bad and the makki ki roti was uncooked. Again, I could taste and see the uncooked corn flour in the makki roti. I think what took the cake was when I told them about the uncooked roti, they took my rotis in (I had taken couple bites from the roti), reheated it and brought it back. As you can imagine, when you reheat rotis, they become papads (stiff crispies). They took all the feedback but charged us for the food we ordered but couldn't eat. I had heard bad reviews about the place lately but now they have lost me as a customer.

5 Stars: Great food, great service, great atmosphere (by betsy425)

Although I have lived in Redmond for many years, I had never before eaten at Preet's, a vegetarian Indian restaurant that many of my Microsoft co-workers so often rave about. Curious about this restaurant, I stopped by with a few friends a couple of days ago.

The atmosphere is pleasant and casual, and when I mentioned to the servers that I was unfamiliar with Indian food, they were eager to recommend some of the most popular dishes. I ordered a Thali, which comes with three entrees, rice, and Indian bread. It is a very good deal and allows you try out several different options. I had the Aloo Gobi (I think it was cauliflower and potatoes), Palak Paneer (spinach and Indian cheese), and Daal (lentil dish). Everything was fresh, delicious, and served very quickly after ordering. Though there seemed to be only two waiters working the whole restaurant, they were prompt, efficient, and cheerful to my group throughout the entire meal.

I will definitely be returning to Preet's in the near future!

1 Stars: WORST Indian food in Seattle (by noelleinseattle)

In the first place, if a restaurant is vegetarian, you should tell people that in the first place. The menu link on their webstie is a dead link and there is no other indication that they do not serve meat. Their service is bad, the tables are awkward, they charge you for rice (tiny portions), there is mandatory tipping (though I suppose this is the only way that their servers would get tipped). The food is abysmal at best. They totally forgot one person in our party's food, then blamed it on him and said he must not have ordered. The "homeade cheese" tasted terrible and had a strange texture. Overall, it was pretty awful and a very unpleasant dinner experience.

5 Stars: Best food! Clean place! Busy on weekends (by eastsidecowboy)

In general many Indian restaurants are unclean and have poor customer service. This one is exceptional! The food is just awesome best. Presentation is perfect. The place is a bit small and there are n't many seats. In the summer though there are some outdoor seats.

1 Stars: It's a big thumbs down for me. I am suggesting good alternatives instead ... (by tastefreak)

We've been tracking down all the good restaurants in the town and trying out food in every one of of them - just as a hobby on the weekends. For some unknown reason this Preet's coming up on the top on a lot of city's best picks. It is really unfair to some good restaurants out there.

I was there on a early saturday evening. Ordered a thali with about 3 entrees and a tomato-paneer-pyaz parontha with Baingan. My observations:

1. Nothing special - very ordinary taste
2. Nothing innovative in presentation
3. Portions are less and will leave you hungry
4. I find this a bit expensive for what it's worth

It reminded me of the food I used to have in my bachelor life living with roommates, where none of us knew any cooking and we would mostly rely on the packaged foods with lot of sodium based preservatives. Not a very good memory, believe me!

It's a big thumbs down for me.

However I suggest:

1. The "Punjab sweets" in Kent, wa as a very good and affordable alternative.
2. ALso the Nan-N-Curry in Renton is very good also if you are looking for non-vegetarian food.

Hope this helps.

Horrible customer service, waiter was rude and did not listen to what we were asking. Did not suggest things relative to what we wanted. Food was gross, seating is uncomfortable, and our table and chairs had crumbs all over. What a waste!

1 Stars: Stay away (by priyavijai)

My wife and I dined here after reading the reviews on Citysearch. We were really disappointed.

The service is bad. The cutlery is broken. The waiters are rude. The food is served on china that is too small to hold the food thus making the parantha's touch the table. The food is not tasty. I had Bhelpuri which really nauseated me.

I wouldn't go back here.

4 Stars: Preets (by mariah789)

I very much enjoy eating at this resturaunt. I recently cut down on how much meat I was eating and also was looking for a place to go out and get some fresh healthy food. This stuff is amazing! The food always comes hot and fresh and the portions are a good size! I always have some to take home for later! It's a great atmoshpere for groups or even a low key date night. I enjoy going with a friend and just trying new things everytime. I have not tried anything I didn't like. If you are new to Indian cuisine or are an old fan try this place out. It does get busy on the weekends due to it's growing popularity so try to go a little early around 6pm. It is a casual spot so feel free to wear jeans. it's nice to have an Indian resturaunt where the servers speak fluent english as well. I love it so check it out!

3 Stars: Too casual for a dinner out, pretty good food (by dblatner)

Preets would be great for a lunch or a quick bite with a friend, but it was sorely disappointing for a dinner out with family. For me, the ambiance was too casual, including top-40 pop music playing in the background from the kitchen and a decor that was obviously a low-cost overhaul of a previous restaurant. The food was reasonably good, and the majority of the patrons were Indian (though none of the people who work there appear to be). The best part of the food was that it was not oily like in some cheap restaurants; it was tasty, nicely cooked, and simple.

5 Stars: clean/amazing parothas/cute servers! (by shelly_mills)

First off, i'd like to say all hands up to the owner that makes it possbile. I had the pleasure of meeting this man this last weekend. He has a great sense of humor, but from what I hear, he's not single, sorry girls. Anyways, I dine at Preet's about once every two weeks, bringing friends with me. My all time favorite dish is the Palak Paneer. I love the new addition to the menu, ordering a sidedish with a parotha gives you a chance to explore more food on the menu. It's not confusing, I see the servers always explaining it to the customers- not that difficult guys! I recommend the Mooli parotha with the mulai kofta. Weekend dinners tend to get busy, so expect a little wait. All top rated restaurants have their downsides, so don't be complaining about the service if you and nine others decide to show up without a phone call on a Saturday night! Even though Preet's doesn't take reservations, save the servers and kitchen some grief and let them know you're coming. If you're in the Seattle/Redmond area, and are in the mood for spicy authenitc food, dine in or take out at Preet's!

1 Stars: Avoid on weekend nights (by indophile)

Let me start by saying that my wife and I used to be fans of Preets - for its tasty parathas, casual look and efficient service.. Then, we decided to try it out for dinner and went with extended family as a party of five. Our experience was so disappointing we are unlikely to re-visit this restaurant for a while, certainly never again for dinner.

The first shocker was the menu - the parathas were not available on their own! Instead, you are required to order the paratha along with a mandatory side dish - none of which go with a paratha! While we can understand Preets' eagerness to milk the success of the parathas, we expected a tad more subtlety and creativity.

The parathas - the aloo, gobi and mooli kinds - were tasty enough. However, the entree dishes - especially mutter panneer, aloo gobi and palak panneer -turned out to be either undercooked or excessively spicy (even by South Indian standards) or both. Thanks to these dishes, we could not enjoy even the parathas.

And, then came the bill, which included a mandatory 18% tip! No, I kid you not. And no, 18 is not a typo. So much for casual dining. And, then as I grumpily offered my credit card, came the final touch. "Sorry sir, our credit card machine is down, if you can please give cash or check..". Enough said.

2 Stars: So-so Indian food; customer service needs improvement (by mrmummum)

The food is decent although the quality seems to have gone down in the past year. Service leaves something to be desired with one waitress working too many tables. After your done with the meal, dirty dishes are left on the table until you leave. These should be taken away once it's obvious your done with your meal.

Beware - 5 people incurs a fixed 18% tip regardless of the servide and babies are included in the count which is ridiculous.

4 Stars: preets is must for first time indian food eaters. (by tomvexpress)

We just had dinner their. Their stuffed Indian eggplants are delicious. The yellow dall soup is tasteful. The restaurant is clean. The decor is modern and pleasing to the eye. They have a nice outside eating area. Their mango shake was awesome, i wanted to order another glass but i didnt want to be a pig. The flat bread stuffed with potato is also very delicious. The food appears to be very healthy, it isn't greasy or heavy. You gotta try their donut and ice cream desert. I never had Indian food before, this is a good place to eat Indian cuisine if you have never had it.

5 Stars: Spectacular (by foodie256)

The first time I walked into this restaurant and looked at the all vegetarian menu, I was a bit skeptical. However, after sampling several things from the menu (get the thali, it's a great way to do this), I was convinced that I had found my new favorite Indian restaurant. All of the dishes are non-greasy, unlike all of the other Indian joints I have frequented in the past (including the Bay Area as well). I really enjoy the minimalist decor as well. This restaurant is highly recommended, and that is coming from a very picky eater!

As a devout meat eater, I usually shy away from any restaurant that does serve meat with every dish. Preet's however is so delicious that its definitely my favorite Indian restaurant overall, vegetarian or not.
4 Stars: Fabulous homemade food (by donnacampbell)

What a wonderful find in Redmond. The entrees are all fantastic. The chaat appetizers are not good but the entrees make it worth your while to try this restaurant.

My faves are the channa batura, kofta curry and baingan. The variety of parathas is wonderful. Punjabi kadhi is terrible but palak great.

5 Stars: Really good Indian food (by jmachin)

I haven't reviewed many places online because I've never really been moved enough to do so...however having read the last silly review I had to! I've been a pretty big Indian food fan for several years now (having gone to many Indian joints in the Seattle area), but apparently didn't know what the real stuff was. An Indian techie friend of mine brought me to Preet's several months ago, and I've honestly been hooked since! I really enjoy the non-greasiness of the entrees (unlike most of the other places I had been to). Not sure if the last reviewer has ever had Indian food before, but this is definitely what it is cracked up to be. I do wish the space itself was a bit bigger, as it can get really busy at times. But all in all, Preet's gets my two thumbs up!

1 Stars: Awful food (by lizardpansy)

I don't understand all the good reviews this place is getting. The food is awful! Soggy pakoras, flavorless dishes, mushy overcooked veggies. Very limited menu. Was a terrible dining experience and the worst Indian food I and my husband have ever had. There are many many better options.

5 Stars: AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! AMAZING!!! (by aliyah)

I have been eating at Preet's since they opened. I am a FOOD SNOB and I think I have eaten at almost every Indian restaurant worth going to in the Seattle area as well as in other cities. Preet's is in another category!!! I'm not even vegetarian and I eat there often! In addition, the vegetarian dishes at most Indian restaurants are TERRIBLE!! The ingredients at Preet's are extremely fresh, the food comes out hot and I have never been disappointed. The flavors are amazing. The mulai kofta is best I have ever had. It's much lighter than it is at other restaurants, rather than being filled with cream. The fresh rotis taste homemade. The gulab jamun is to die for. The gulab jamun at other places tastes like it came out of a box and sat around for a couple of weeks. I tell all my friends to eat at Preet's and anyone who has is now a regular customer. I have been there on nights when it's a little crazy, but for the most part the services is consistenly good. For those that want to be cheap and complain about an automatic tip, you should know that most restaurants include an 18% tip for parties over 5 or 6. Also, when you complain about how busy it is and that there is only one waitress, consider this:
1) The prices are RIDICULOUSLY LOW
2) There's a reason it's always busy and the wait times are so long
3) ALL WAITRESSES depend on tips as part of their income! If the service was that bad, ask to speak to the owner and give them some feedback.
4) It's nice to ACTUALLY find good dining on the Eastside. You're not paying downtown prices, either.
Restaurants like Preet's should truly be rewarded for FULLY SATISFYING ME AND MY BOYFRIEND, CONSISTENTLY, FOR A VERY LOW PRICE!! It's also really adorable inside. It is simple, classy and charming, unlike many of the Indian restaurants that look thrown together by someone with no taste. They also play really good house music, with the exception of Sunday nights.

4 Stars: Good food, Long wait times, Automatic tipping ? (by itsabhi)

Areas of improvement: 1. There seems to be only 1 waitress serving approx 12 tables! And she probably takes care of the cash register too. I worked odd jobs in restaurants before and I can tell you that is a lot of hard work. Anyway, long story short, this is leading to long waiting times...right from placing the order to the time the meal arrives. 2. Sequence of dishes: Last time I ordered my favorite "Chole Bhature". Guess what...the chole arrived first. I sat there waiting for 10 minutes before I caught the first glimpse of the bhatura. It seems this is Standard operating procedure. The table next to me experienced the same issues. So in the end, I had a bowl full of cold chole and hot bhature. One more thing...the lamp on our table had a bulb blown out. 3. The final thing that caught my attention was towards the end of my "lovely" dining experience. This place actually Automatically charges you an 18% tip with the check. Now, per my understanding, isn't a tip a gesture from the customer that translates his satisfaction and appreciation to a monetary incentive for the restaurant staff? If I want to tip, I get to decide how much to pay, depending on the dining experience. If the owner feels that his staff is under-compensated, then he should be taking care of that expense, not the customers. Customers are here to pay for the meals and that covers all overhead costs including the cost of labor. If he still wants to pass on his employee payroll expense to customers, please adjust this expense into the pricelist on the menu, instead of sticking to such innovative attempts at balancing business costs. Automatic tipping is a display of arrogance and brings in a tendency of complacency in the employees. At least, there should be a notice in BOLD right at the entrance, that all patrons will be automatically tipped for the service they receive.

5 Stars: The best indian food anywhere in the US! (by kvissa)

Excellent food! Can't go wrong with this place. The choice is small but the quality is excellent. It has that 'home-made' look, feel and taste. Service can be a little slow on busy days or nights, but the food is worth the wait. Staff is very friendly, which is another plus. Ambience is also great - well lit large booths in the main dining area plus there is a 'patio' dining area as well. This place is miles above any other indian restaurant in the Seattle area. Dont forget to try out their Aloo Gobi or Rajmah - they're to die for!

5 Stars: Great food AND great ambience- A class apart (by seattlefoodcritic)

Simple food, just like homemade. The ambience is chic and simplistic. A far cry from the tacky decor of most Indian restaurants. Preets is at the top of my fav Indian restaurants in Seattle. (Chutneys Bistro runs a close second) Also if you like Indian sweets, the Preets sweet shop right next to the restuarant is really great too!

Needless to say i am an Indian from Ireland and was at US for one month and as i only eat indian veg. i tried more then 20 restaurent at Portland/Seattle area and Preet's is by far the best of all and miles ahead from all. Don't miss out the Samosa Chat as starter and the food is very tasty and overall presentation is very different. I have been to more thn 20 country and have tasted most of indian food and Preet is within my top5 now. Definately i am coming back and when ever i will be in Seattle, i will only eat at Preet. We even had take away food while driving back to Portland (3 hour drive from seattle). Highly recommended--Divya 5*

5 Stars: For the Taste of Home Cooked Indian food (by jhatax)

If the food at a restaurant tastes like my mom's cooking, it deserves my patronage and a glowing review. My usual order: a parantha, saag and a chai. Manpreet (the owner) has ensured that the food at his restaurant meets a high TASTE bar and is the doyen of Indian food for those of us missing the wholesome taste of a home cooked meal. The servers are polite, the drinks and sweets are not over-poweringly sweet and the decor is chic, contrary to the tacky interiors of most Indian restaurants. Even though the menu is strictly vegetarian, this place gets my seal of approval; if you feel like vegetarian food, you should definitely consider Preets. Oh and one more thing, ask for the Samosa Chole, it's a special...

5 Stars: Best Indian food in Seattle! (by emonahan)

I have frequented many Indian restaurants in the Greater Seattle area over the last several years. However, preet's definitely serves the best food in town! I have been a regular customer since they opened several months ago, and I can say that I have never been disappointed in the quality and service. The ambience is quite unlike any other Indian restaurants as well. It is a purely vegetarian restaurant, but don't let that scare you away, as the food is very hearty and authentic.
5 Stars: a long overdue addition to Seattle (by murlirao2002)

I decided to try this place for lunch after reading the reviews. The food is simple and simply delicious. I ordered the thali, which comes with 3 vegetables and 2 rotis, and a mango milkshake. Excellent choices. The mango milkshake might very well become the signature drink of this restaurant. The rotis are the way I would cook at home; I am not a big fan of the naans. The menu is compact and I think these guys should keep it that way. Service/attitude of the staff is very good. The food is presented well. I haven't tried the chat dishes, will do so next time. I am a desi (ghat) so you can put credence in my review when I say this comes very close to home cooked food. Preet's is the best desi place in the SEA area.

5 Stars: Tastes like homemade! (by sangeeta1)

Wow, I never thought I would be finding a place in the Seattle area that made food like my mom did back home in India! I had been hearing my friends talk about this new place at work all the time, so I thought I would give it a try. Definitely worth going to Preets. The Maki Roti and Saagg dish is just perfect and the mulai kofta is mouth watering. The parothas are the biggest attraction. I have had the mooli, paneer, and pyaz parothas, and with the fresh yogurt and chai after the meal, nothing else can beat that on a lazy Saturday afternoon! I can't say enough about the ambiance and great interior design they have done. It is very tasteful, modern, very casual, yet sophisticated at the same time.

5 Stars: New favorite restaurant (by miten)

Having been a loyal Kanishka customer since I moved to Redmond, I felt uneasy giving Preets a try. However, I couldnt help myself after hearing friends and coworkers raving about it. As I walked into the restaurant with a friend, I noticed a few other acquaintances, twenty minutes later, my party of two turned into a party of nine. The food was incredible and oh so authentic!!! Two mango shakes, paneer pakorays, palak, and hours of laughter went by, and unfortunately, it was time for the restaurant to close. Traditional, delicious food combined with delightful ambience made Preets a unique and modern Indian dining experience. I will come back again and again.

4 Stars: Good food, good wait staff, but management need some attitude fixin' (by ghorag)

The food as ever is great 9 times out of 10 & no other Indian restaurant in the area can come close. And that is why it pulls the crowds that it does.

However, the restaurant has not scaled at all to its popularity. You have to wait an unreasonable amount of time to get that homecooked food; in that time you can likely prepare your own home cooked food of the same quality at half the cost. There is still one wait staff most of the times, the bar area at the entrance has not been utilized to serve food to the usually half a dozen patrons who cannot be immediately seated in the main area. In the peak hours you could be waiting for even water for a long time.

The attitude of the management seems to have changed somewhat - the flexibilty of yesteryears has almost totally gone. There seems to be an inclination to make more money - what with increasing rates on the menu, & also no discounts for larger sized orders.

Sometimes you get a feeling that you are getting less than you paid for. That ofcourse is still more than what you would get at most Indian restaurants in the area, but for the loyalty (& free advertising!!) that many of us customers have given this restaurant, I would expect more from them.

All this said, I hope they continue their simple menu with great tasting dishes. Keep friendly wait staff, even as they grow in size.
