My family always has a good time at Hana Japan. Perhaps the last reviewer had a bad day because of the 6-8 times we've been in the last 2 years or so, we have never had an issue with service or seating. Most Japanese-oriented restaurants that cook at your table practice the full table policy so it shouldn't come as a surprise. We find it interesting and look forward to meeting new families. We are a family of five so we have not had to deal with the auto tip issue. The food is cooked well. I get the vegetarian bowl while my children and husband usually go for chicken and shrimp dishes. They are always tasty. The chefs are the best. Entertaining, engaging and skilled in their craft. We always have fun at Hana Japan!

Basically, the hostess chewed my sister out and made her cry for asking if we can be seated together. We had reservations for 7:30 but seated at 8:30 which made my grandfather almost leave for he is diabetic and didnt expect to have to wait that long for the table. When I expressed this to the hostess her response was tough. The food was cooked very poor and it was the consciences of all the patrons at the party it was because the staff had an attitude towards us for complaining as we were told by the hostess was true. The food is drinched in oil and salt, undercooked (like raw egg and egg shell in the frid rice) When we received the bill, a 17% tip was included that no one felt was earned so we refused to pay the tip and only paid for the food we received. This prompted the bartender to come outside, approach us in such a manner very thug like the he proceeded to un-tuck his shirt and roll up his sleeves as if getting ready to fight and tell us the cops were on the way. (no wonder their staff members stab eachother in the kitche...yeah look that one up!) Once the officers arrived, we explained the situation to them and were advised although we were justified in our thought process, we still indeed had to pay the 17% gratuity because it was on the menu and we had a party of 6 or large so we paid the difference. I feel they have invented a backdoor operation of collecting 17% gratuity form customers. Guests do not get seated until the table is full regardless if they know each other or not. If 3 different parties of 3 people who do not know each other will be seated together they have 3 different bills, avoiding the higher gratuity charge. Yet if I come with me + 8 and request separate bills we are told no. There is no difference between the 2 other then knowing each other. They charge their guest more money for bringing in business and knowing the people they are dinning with. There is no extra effort put out by the staff or business loss if you seat a party of 8 that knows each other or 2 parties of 4 that do not.
