I REALLY like this place, Unique food

by Chrsitine H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 148

If you are looking for something different, and I don't mean ethnic, try Lucky Devil's. Have you ever had a cupcake or toasted pecan shake? They've got um. The price of the Kobe burger is a bit high, but taste it and you'll know why. The combination of bacon with gruyere and bleu cheese, luscious bread and that Kobe beef is a knock-out!

For breakfast try the Creme Brulee French Toast - outstanding.

p.s. If you have kids or out of town guests, make a day of it and walk a few blocks to Ripleys Believe it or Not Museum.

The best burger

by Jackie S. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,800

The best Kobe beef burger you'll ever have. A nice alternative is to have it with the organic salad instead of fries. Multiple beers on tap. Super friendly staff but very slow service.

This is a great burger joint if you're looking for someplace that's not Chili's and is not McDonald's. It has a simple menu with fair prices and the staff is very helpful!!

Great organic/natural dining experience in Hollywood...

by Amanda C. | insider Insider | Rank: 19,040

I first discovered this gem by chance and am so glad that i did! I am a big fan of organic/natural foods. While not everything is in the above category, so many choices are. Their menu is ever-changing to fit the season, so I am never bored. Some classics that never leave are Kobe beef burgers, organic turkey burgers, great gourmet salads, etc. Also great desserts, on tap beer and wine too...

Definitely worth a try.

Tasty Upscale Man Food

by BBELA

I?m a pig. A big, fat pig.

I am also quite full.

Had dinner tonight (Wednesday) with friend M.D. (Mister MD)

We had previously enjoyed a quite pricey meal at Street and wanted a less expensive affair. We managed to decrease the bill by $10 bucks each. It?s a start!

Lucky Devil?s is another in the line of upscale burger joints. And I feel the need to try each and every one of them. It?s my patriotic duty, for Pete?s sake!

The crowd here is 75% hungry male, 20% dorky tourist (it?s located blocks from Mann?s Chinese Theater) and 5% Miscellaneous (us).

Discovering there was a variety of things on the menu besides burgers, we finally were able to narrow it down to the following:

1. Kobe Bacon Blue Burger with Fire Slaw
2. Sweet Potato Fries
3. Sopressata Flatbread Pizza
4. 2 imported beers

I, personally, feel we devoured the best of this place. Here?s a brief synopsis:

1. Burger patty was very thick, expertly cooked. Not as soggy as Kobe beef can be. The brioche bun did NOT fall apart. Success! Cole slaw was heavy on carrots (a good thing), spicy. I liked it.

2. A shitload of fries, many of them thin, short and crispy. We didn?t finish them. I couldn?t help but think of the poverty striken children of the world that don?t even get half the portion of sweet potato fries that we did.

3. I?m a lover of flatbread pizza. This was a good one, very crispy. The ends were burnt. I like it that way, my friend did not. I continued to consume it, even as my belly began to distend.

4. Beers were good. Mmm. Beer.

Never been wowed by a burger till now.

by jjzdesign

This place RULES for burgers. Honestly, I can't stop thinking about how badly I want to have a burger since we went there.
It's not the cheapest burger in town, but oh my gosh...it's SO good.

Go and have a burger. You will be so happy you did.

Pros: BEST BURGER EVER

Cons: not exactly cheap for a burger

Best Burger Ever!!!

by pjacques123

This place is awesome! Pricey for a burger but totally worth it if you love great burgers and want to treat yourself once in a while.And... you can wash it down with a killer microbrew. The desserts look absolutely amazing but I never have room for them as I'm always way too full from the burger. Go, give it a try, it's great, really.

Pros: Best Burger Ever, Great Beers

Cons: Pricey, Hollywood Blvd. Seediness.

Won't be open long.

by aliota112

Never heard of Lucky Vanous until now, but I could care less. This place isn't too good. The food quality seemed substandard, and the service was totally lacksidasical. Yes, there is a huge promotional push. My group of friends even wanted to go somewhere else. However, we chose here. We walked in and they were playing "Let it Be," the album. I commented that "Let it Be" is not a "drinking" album. It seemed to somewhat sour the mood, although I do like those songs. However, I don't generally get off drinking to "Across the Universe." Whatever. The waitress came over a half hour after we were seated. That was not so great. We ordered. The food took an hour to get to us, by which time I had lost my appetite. I did take it home, but it wasn't much of an experience there either. The waitress was kind; she did ask me if I wanted the burger "recooked" because "sometimes they have a tendency to overcook the meals." I declined. Yes, the bill was WAY overpriced. I think the group of 4 spent over $100 for 4 burgers, 2 fries, and 2 drinks a piece. I can go anywhere, get better food and service, and spend less. In an era where gas is $5 a gallon, $20 per burger is a rip off. The very young Indian lady who hands out fliers for this place on the Boulevard is the only bright spot about this; she is very attractive, but don't let that fool you. I would never recommend spending that kind of money for this food. Sure, the beer was fine. But if you're going to go to Lucky Devils, only drink and do not eat. That way, you'll be served in the first 40 minutes of your trip to the restaurant. Pass.

Pros: The approximately 26 year old Indian woman who does the on-street marketing.

Cons: Very few pros, once you've actually visited the place. The beer is ok. I'd rather drink at home, though.

Great burgers - and cupcakes too!

by yogurt623

Got a flier for this place in my mail and so a friend and I checked it out one night. She loves her burgers and I like things that are a bit different and we were both quite satisfied. The burgers were delicious (and huge!) and for dessert we had one of their specialty cupcakes. Their cupcakes come in as many varieties as the Cheesecake Factory has cheesecake and it was a perfect way to top off the meal. The joint has a neat retro, 70s vibe to it.

Pros: Good food

Cons: Parking...Hollywood is notorious for difficult parking!

BEST Burger Spot in L.A!

by marinagirl78

I was recently recommended here by a friend who lives in Hollywood. Apparently this place hasn't caught on enough to make Citysearch's big lists yet but let me tell you, it will - so get in now! The burgers are absolutely divine...From their Kobe Bacon Bleu burger to their Veggie burger, they've perfected it. Everything about the burger was perfect. An additional treat that I didn't see on the menu but knew about through my friend, was their delectable CAKE shakes. Yes, it's a shake, with actual cake in it. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Don't forget to opt for the fries and hot sauce instead of the salad, they are as good as fries get...and I'm from Idaho!

Pros: No real parking, just like everything in Hollywood

Cons: It's not in Santa Monica

The beer and burgers almost make up for the service.

by nkh

The night started on a great note. We had an enthusiastic and knowledgeable server who made outstanding recommendations for both the food and the beer. Too bad that was almost the last time we saw him. It took forever for us to get our food - not the waiter's fault but he never stopped by to give us an update. Once we got our food he never checked to see how we were doing, nor did he ask if we wanted another round of drinks (the group I was with definitely would have). They were also out of all the wonderful cupcakes listed on the dessert menu (we were apparently supposed to know this because the light was out in the display case?). Oh well.

I'd go back again, but only when I know I have the time and patience to deal with the poor service.

Pros: Amazing beer menu, great food

Cons: Slow kitchen, poor service

A fantastic Burger

by jlrobe

Some people think paying more than 10$ for a burger is too much. if you don;t like spending that kind of money for a burger, lucky devil's isnt for you.

I have had burgers at the counter, pie n burger, apple pan, In N Out, Carls Junior's 6 dollar burger, and a few other burger places. I have to say that those burgers are just not very good in my opinion, and shouldnt be compared to this burger. If you love those places, DO NOT COME TO Lucky Devil's. You will feel cheated.

If you like burgers at 3rd stop, the york, fathers office, library alehouse, redwood bar and grill, Ebizos, the bowery, 25 degrees, bar marmont, then I would recommend trying the awesome burgers and beer here. I personally like it better than all of the above, but most of the above are also very good.

The owner obviously puts a lot of care into his burgers and his beer, and I respect that.

Pros: The Beer and Burgers are second to none

Cons: crowded sidewalks, lack of parking, and high prices (But I don't mind any of these "cons")

The KOBE is the best burger ever!!

by twevans

Heard that Lucky Devils served a mean burger and finally tried one. It was by far the juiciest and most flavorable burger I ever ate. I tried the Kobe Diablo that was served with bacon, carmelized onions, avocado and topped off with a sauce that had some kick to it. I had the side salad which was good but the french fries were to die for. Crisp and full of flavor and they didn't skimp on the portion either. The other people in our party were very satisfied with their orders as well. The turkey meatloaf and Kobe Bleu burgers also received two thumbs up. Topped off the dinner with the fabulous Kentucky Cream cake, which was moist and very decadent (not to be eaten by someone counting calories).
The wait staff was friendly and prompt. Food was served hot and they continued to check back on us during the evening. Lucky himself even checked on our group to make sure everything was OK and to our satisfaction. The only problem I have with the restaurant is the location....... I wish it was closer to South Orange County!!! Hopefully, Lucky Devils will open a second location in OC so I can visit on a regular basis and continue to enjoy a hamburger that truly melts in your mouth.

Pros: Unbelievable burgers and beers

Cons: Parking could be tough on Fri/Sat evening.

Lucky .... no more!

by texaninca

LD is waaaaaaaay over priced, but it is close to our office so we would visit there semi-frequently. Never again. Spending over $80.00 (with tip) for three for lunch is a little much since the food is not that outstanding. It is good food, don't get me wrong, but not for that price in the Hollywood area for sandwiches, french fries and a drink . Today was the deal breaker though, we looked at our bill and not only is the menu prices high for what you get, Lucky now finds it neccessary to charge 50cents for condiments. I mean come on. If you are going to drop over $25.00 per person for lunch the least of it all you should be able to get a side of Aoli for dipping fries, or a side of hot sauce for free. Now 50cents is not that big a deal but when the prices are too high as it is, it just adds insult to injury.

Pros: The fries are good

Cons: Inside always as cold as a refrigerator and the service bites.

Outstanding!

by genevieve22

By far the best hamburger I've ever had! I was so impressed that I've been back a couple of times and the food is consistently good. Parking is just around the corner and convenient. The restaurant is casual - almost a diner atmosphere - but you can tell that they put a lot of money into refurbishing the building and in the decor. Beer selection is the best in the city. Lucky was there and came out to chat with the tables - very friendly as were the servers. They even let us sample a few different desserts - all were outstanding. I'd go back anytime.

Pros: Food is incredible. parking is convenient.

One of the few beer-centric places in the area.

by steagle

I'm surprised everyone is talking about the burgers and fries and not the beer. Fortunately, beer is becoming more widespread in LA, but we still have a lot of catching up to do to places like San Diego. This is a gem in the rough for Hollywood - a true beer lover's resting spot, with rotating (albeit slowly) handles from noted West Coas brewers like AleSmith, Lagunitas, Stone, Lost Coast as well as the occasional out-of-state brewer. They always have one or two delicious stouts on tap, which go down wonderfully with a juicy burger or sandwich. Speaking of food, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food preparation here. I can't attest to the desserts, but for the main items, I noticed a high attention to detail in the cooking and presentation. For a place loosely referred to as "burger joint," it's actually more deserving of a title like "restaurant." Combine the high quality of the traditionally-boring food items with the mouth watering, highly specialized beer choices, and you have yourself one of the only redeeming locations in the Hollywood/Highland zoo.

Pros: Amazing beer, surprisingly good food

Cons: Parking, slightly overpriced

Drop a paycheck at Lucky Devils

by gunnarslade

Seriously overpriced. 20 bucks for a burger is absurd and the service is rediculous. The servers pass by tables left and right and I was left sitting for 15 minutes with an empty glass before being asked if I wanted another drink. When my burger did come it was overcooked and when I asked them to recook it, i heard foul language coming from the kitchen. My dressing oily and broken and my girlfriends fries were far too overcooked. We ordered a cupcake for dessert and although it looked good (it was the only dessert in the case that did, the others looked like a 5 year old made them) it was dry and tasted old and stale. Seriously dont waste your time or money here. Youre better off making a burger at home.

Pros: Good microbrews

Cons: Everything else

WHY DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS PLACE SOONER!!! BEST DAMN BRUNCH AND LUNCH

by djsarartonin

Ok now.... I have just moved to LA from San Francisco. Can I just say how under-whelmed I am with the food in Los Angeles. I feel like you can stumble across any number of amazing restaurants in Sf and only expect to pay $10 for your meal. Not the case for LA. That said... I have recently come across Lucky Devils. I was a little skeptic at first, thinking it was another actor turned restaurateur type place. Not the case what so ever. The quality of food, the service, everything about it reminded me of home! Finally a place I will return to over and over. I came for the all you can drink mimosas at brunch. Had the French toast and spicy sausage. AWESOME is all I can say!!! I came back for lunch and brought a friend back with me. She is a vegetarian so I was a little worried because this place is know for their burgers. To my surprise they had an awesome selection for the veggies. I had the Kobe Bacon Blue. The best damn burger I have ever had!! I'm craving it just thinking about it. With lunch we had a one of the 40 Hand Crafted Beers. Ok what!!! The beer selection was outstanding. Not expected. My friend had a Spiked Mango Lim-aide with a huge strawberry garnish. She sucked that down in about 2 seconds and went for another. After my beer I tried the Devils Mary. PERFECTION. They gave me a side plate with there special in house made hot sauce, in house made pickles, in house blue cheese garlic stuffed olives a lime and celery. I?m telling you this place is awesome. I cant say AWESOME enough. Ill be back at least once a week.

Pros: The food speaks for itself

Delicious Entrees and Friendly Service

by barbiekiros

Just a few weeks ago, while visiting Los Angeles, we had the "Lucky"opportunity to visit Lucky Devils twice. Both times, our experience with the restaurant and its staff was outstanding. On our first visit, we (a group of five) ordered lunch. From the Mango ice tea, a variety of hamburgers, to the desserts, our meals were delicious. You can tell alot by a restaurant too, by how clean the bathrooms are, which they were spotless. The mouthwatering meals, left us will the feeling that we couldn't wait to go back for more. Our second visit was on Sunday morning, where brunch entrees were being offered. Again, our service was friendly and well informed, and our meals were excellent. It was also an honor to meet the owner, Lucky Vanous, who took time out from his duties in the kitchen to greet us and welcome us to his establishment. Now that I am back in Florida, I have cravings for the scrumptous desserts that we all shared, from the berry cobbler to the red velvet cupcakes. I will be sure to visit Lucky Devils each time I make a trip to L.A.. I will also tell anyone that is visiting Hollywood, if they want a delicious breakfast or a casual but tasty meal for lunch or dinner, to be sure and eat at Lucky Devils.

Pros: Easy to get to, friendly staff, and clean

kobe beef burgers is for losers.

by humara

this place is awesome. they use "kobe" beef for burgers.
it's really just wagu, not from kobe.
and because you buy and enjoy kobe for the texture and marbling of fat, it makes more than perfect sense to grind it up and mix it up with other meat to completely rid yourself of the marbling and texture. total time waster. burger was a little small for the price. considering 25 degrees is right down the street.
you can do better.

Pros: in hollywood

Cons: expensive for ok-ish decent food.

Burgers, Fries, and Shakes- Elevated to an Art Form!

by earthmama4x

I've been a vegetarian for 16 years, and this was the BEST veggie burger I've ever had. With its flavorful ingredients and pleasant color and texture, it has spoiled me forever! We arrived on a busy afternoon yet were seated immediately, and our server (Billy) was terrific. Everything arrived in a timely manner, and it was all fantastic. The kids' mac and cheese is the real thing- no fake orange junk here! The chocolate cake shake was amazing, as were the rootbeer floats and the cupcakes. We ordered fries to share just because I'd heard how good they were...they were gone in seconds. Light and crispy, there's nothing like them out there. The produce is incredibly high quality, and I love that it's organic, the way we eat at home. Everything was extremely fresh and tasted home-made. We were also pleased with how clean it is here. (Can't say the same for a lot of places in Hollywood! ) As for the various complaints I've seen here- the tv screens are really unobtrusive- even the two 9 year old boys with us didn't really pay attention to them. The price seemed competitive to me- two adults and five kids ate lunch and dessert for about $80. As for parking, the streets are tough, but there are lots nearby, so it's really not an issue. It's just a short stroll down the blvd. from the El Capitan theater. I've sent many people here already since we were there two weeks ago, and I hope to get back soon. A definite must try!

Pros: Food Quality, Service, Cleanliness

Cons: None

Best burgers, grilled cheese, and french fries in town!

by shelleybeth

I've been here at least twenty times and have never had a bad experience. Always incredibly tasty! I'm a vegetarian so have never tried the burgers myself, but everyone I'm with says they're the best they've had. There are several different grilled cheese sandwiches, and they are all amazing! The french fries are incredible and I have a hard time not eating every last one, even though I am stuffed. The beer selection is awesome as well. Not touristy as it's further down Hollywood Blvd. than most tourists tend to walk. Excellent quality ingredients, and the service is great. This place is definitely one of my favorites!

Pros: Food, service, and beer selection.

Cons: None

by smoothsayer

iheartgrub you are crazy!!! of course you can buy a snake river farms "kobe" beef pattry at whole foods for 5 bucks!!!! and that is what it will cost you if you eat it in the parking lot RAW. once you factor in your gas, mileage, rent or mortgage, utilities, not to mention price of aLA BREA BAKERY brioche bun(god knows what those cost), condiments, someone to cook it and serve it to you and then clean it up, I think $15 is looking like a bargain!!!!! people are in business to make some sort of profit, and the restaurant business is one of the lowest profit industry there is. WAAAAY Overpriced

by lynn9487

OK, I like this place IN THEORY, so I try every couple of weeks, hoping for the best. But, for burgers and grilled cheese, the price is stupid, even when the food is good (which is not 100% of the time). You get about four sips of wine for average $10. Doesn't allow the normal person to make this a regular hang, especially not in Hollywood, where there are now options. And when the diner opens on Cahuenga, there's gonna be a cheaper, hip option. And note to staff - if a customer clearly doesn't like something, whether a glass of wine or a darn $2 cupcake, offer a substitute for pete's sake! Like that'll break ya? I had a cupcake last night that just sucked, and everyone at the table tried a little and said it sucked, so 3/4 of the thing sat there while the other desserts were eaten. I even told the waiter it sucked. Considering the measly mushroom burger and glass of wine cost $25, you'd think offering another dessert would have been cool. The place isn't cool like that.

I wasted my money, don't waste yours

by hotdogstolobster

I was told that they had a great burger here. That was not true! The food was okay, but way overpriced. Oh they may get the occasional tourist but they won't see me there again. $15.00 and more for a burger, what a rip-off! You'll find me at The Counter, in Santa Monica, The Apple Pan in West Los Angeles, Mo's in Toluca Lake, or Pie & Burger in Pasadena, but NEVER here again!

Pros: Service was good, the place was clean

Cons: The food, and the price

I can't stay away from this place! For the last six months I have been stopping by, at least, once a week. When I think I have had everything on the menu, new items are added to tempt me! The Kobe burger is a standard, and with an order of fries is the best in town. However, each new dish is so inventive! I look forward to every visit with great anticipation! The service is always great, and the place is super clean! And at the end of a hard week there is no better place to come after work to have a beer with friends.

Mom hates most every place, loves Lucky Devils burgers

by fletcherfletch

My son Robin told me about Lucky Vanous' restaurant. I was visiting relatives in Long Beach and Knight's Landing, Calif., last month. So I went by Lucky Devils. Not only does the owner provide a satisfactory variety of GOOD drinks for an old bingo marm and world ttraveler to choose from, he makes the best burger I have found since the Sidewinder restaurant closed on Route 66 in the Cal desert maybe 30 years ago. It was perfect, everything was, food to rpice to server. Usually, I loathe burgers made by anyone other than myself. I don't know what brand of bread and consiments he uses for his burgers, but I know, without a doubt, whatever brand or brands they are they are exceptionallyh good. And the service was so excellent. One young woman even gave me perfect directions and got me out of town without confuse--at my age (80) that is a miracle. Most of these gimmick eateries owned by former celebrities are exactly that--a gimmick, a short-term jmoke. Not Lucky D's. I am half certain this eatery will be here for decades to come, long after I am a thing of th epast. Barbara Gamble Fletcher, Fort Worth, Texas

Pros: Service, meat, bread, condiments, drink choices, location

by jaggers_edge

Ok, so I read about this place on myspace. I figured, ok another hole in the wall that will come and go in a blink, but what the hey I might as well check it out right? First of all, the smell in so incredible, your mouth begins to water even before you walk in the door. Service is great, you're actually treated like it is a small town eatery with a wait staff that actually smiles and is happy to greet you - I know not likely in LA but it is true. Ok, so by the time I figured out what I wanted it did not take long for my order to arrive. I was not in the least disappointed. I am actually salivating right now thinking about that burger I ordered. Hot, fresh and oh so good. Tell you what, go just because you hear it is the "in" place to be or you just read a great review but I guarantee you will be back because the food just satisfies your hunger. - Oh, yeah have a cupcake it is worth the calories!

60 bucks for burgers and beers for 2? Really?

by iheartgrub

This is a little pricey for a local hang, no? 2 burgers, chili cheese fries and two beers came back a little under 60 bucks. And for what?

And by the way for you people that are so impressed by "kobe" beef, this is "Snake River Farms" Kobe beef from California and you can buy it at Whole foods for less than 5 bucks a patty.

Atmosphere wise it's pretty cheesy with extreme sports on loop on the flatscreens and bad sirius radio in the background. This place makes me wish Hollywood had more chain restaurants to shut these hacks down.

Pros: health items on menu

Cons: Surprizingly pricey

great burger

by brookstar90403

Went there on a friday night. The place was packed but we managed to get a table pretty quickly. The host was very nice and welcoming. I liked the look of the place and didnt really mind the surfing videos - which became more interesting as we drank more wine.
Waitress was sweet and apologized for the wait, but she was flighty and messed up one of our orders. She did fix the mistake very quickly and apologized for it, which really wasn't a big deal.

The wine list was o.k. We had the only Cab on the list and the only Malbec. Both were really good choices with the food. My husand had the kobe burger and loved it. I had the veggie burger and really liked it. It was unlike any veggie burger I had ever had. (meaning I could actually see and taste all of the listed ingredients instead of some greyish soy thing). Fries were fantastic. The crowd seemed really diverse and lively. I will definitely return.

Pros: veggie burger, fries, wine

Cons: need more servers

WoW!

by emelita

This is my guilty pleasure lunch place. The burgers are just straight-up, decadent: kobe beef, vermont cheddar, carmelized onions, garlic aioli and a brioche bun...superb. The fries - can we discuss the fries? Perfect, light and crispy with just the right amount of salt. The waitstaff - in particular the twins, are attentive and very kind. The prices are up there, but you're paying for food that is high quality, prepared perfectly (I've been there 6 times and have NEVER been disappointed), and incredibly tasty.
I haven't had a chance to try their desserts or their sinister looking Toasted Pecan Shake which uses a frozen custard with Madagascar vanilla beans as its base...I'm reserving this for a serious PMS emergency.

I love this place and when I'm craving a burger...a real, honest-to-goodness burger, this is the place I'll drive to.

The one challenge for people who don't live or work in the area I guess would be parking - I work in the area so its not a challenge I face. There are plenty of lots in the surrounding area though. This place is definitely worth traveling into Hollywood for, without a doubt.

Pros: Food, the twins, the ambiance

Cons: The TV screens - they can show scary images at times...

Love it or hate it. Love it.

by jkibler

After looking through these reviews, it sounds like people love or hate Lucky Devils. Few in-between. My wife and I belong in the former category - we love Lucky Devils.

1) We have never had slow service there.
2) We have only eaten tasty things there (the Kobe Beef Burger really is the best thing on the menu).

There is a serious dearth of good mid-range restaurants in Hollywood (Magnolia is one of the few) - Lucky Devils helps this local out considerably. Good work!

Pros: Great food.

Cons: A bit pricey, but worth it.

Everything here is fantastic!

by mars215

I tried this place the first time two weeks ago and have been back six times since -- there isn't one bad thing on the menu, but the real standout is the kobe burger. Order it medium rare and enjoy it melt in your mouth. If you aren't in the mood for a burger, grab a milkshake -- the chocolate cake shake is out of this world. Their wine selection is good, but beer selection is great -- Most beers are imports and run 8-10% alcohol. Top everything off with some of their frozen custard.
Just writing this is making me crave some Lucky Devils -- If you live in LA and haven' gone here, you are cheating yourself -GO!

Pros: food, beer, BEST BURGER EVER

Cons: THe area can be full of tourists, and parking

Best burger I've ever had ...

by zbigboy

This place has the best burger I've ever had ... it's called the Kobe burger. Place is very clean/nice with friendly service.

If you like beer, try the "Bstard" beer ... it's fantastic, and quite strong on the alcohol.

This place is a must visit!

Pros: Great food that's cooked fresh, nice casual environment.

Cons: Parking can be an issue.

Best Burgers in Hollywood

by youdunnome2

Lucky Devils is more than just a regular burger joint. It has a wide range of foreign and domestic beers, AWESOME creamy milkshakes and multiple burger/fry combos that make you forget that In N Out is down the block. Try the Kobe burger (medium rare), a heaping order of fries and a strawberry shake (made with FRESH strawberry coulis) or chili fries and a fresh limeade (This, like everything else, can be customized) for some relatively lighter fare. The service actually pretty responsive. I got a great recommendation from the chef (who happened to be sitting next to us) and a lot of help from our fun, helpful and attentive server. The food, however, did take awhile to come out. Overall, I'd say it's a great way to recover from a hectic afternoon or evening and a fun place to hang out and enjoy thick, delicious burgers with friends. The only challenge is finding a place to park! You can try finding a meter off of Hollywood, but you're better off in one of the lots. They don't validate) I highly recommend it.

Pros: KOBE BURGERS, overall décor, service

Cons: Parking, slow food arrival.

I would never go back again

by cebg

I have gone to Lucky Devils twice but will not give them a third chance.

The first time I went my fiance and I were the ONLY ones in the place and had only ordered a shake and a piece of cake. My shake was tastey but it took quite a long time to get the bill.

The second time we went again to get some desert, we were seated right away and the place was not too busy. We sat for 15 minutes and the server had not even brought us water. We decided to leave instead of waiting for hours for just a piece of pie.

The food does not make up for the wait

Hope you LOVE to wait. Glacial service doesn't even begin to describe it...

by meijin

Words cannot describe how heinously slow the service at Lucky Devils is. Service is so slow that the time between when you place your order and when your drinks and/or food arrive that it can only be measured on a geologic time scale.
This has been the case from day one until now. I went early on and ordered a shake -- a terribly difficult, time-consuming item that requires head chef attention -- and a special trip to Madagascar for the much-hyped Madagascar Vanilla. In that case, my shake came to me about 20 minutes after ordering... in a completely empty restaurant. Huh.
Last night, I went again, trying once again to get dessert. This time, a full restaurant. I thought that maybe in the intervening months, LD's staff had gotten everything together and were working much faster... after all, if your service is that bad, generally you can't stay in business long.
So we ordered, and also requested water since we were thirsty and knew about the wait. We waited...
... and waited....
... and waited....
... and waited.
Thirty minutes passed.
Not even a water was brought out.
No sign of ANY progress being made towards STARTING the order.
So we walked out. The manager seemed shocked... how can you be shocked at people leaving when you haven't even made the most token attempt at service in 30 minutes?

Truly, on the stretch of Hollywood between Gower and LaBrea, you'd be hard pressed to find worse service. The food's not bad, so if you've got nothing to do between now and when you retire, it might be worth it if you want to hang out... but life's too short to wait half an hour or more for diner food.

Pros: Food's not bad... if you get it.

Cons: ... but you probably won't. Enjoy the wait. (You will wait. A LONG time.)

Worth every penny

by nomis

Get your burger on! Yeah you're paying a little more than you would at Carl's Jr. But, at Lucky Devil's you're getting some quality meat, buns, and produce with your order. I split the Kobe beef burger and a Kurobuta pork sandwich with a friend. They were both amazing and perfectly balanced with a large side of fries and organic salad. I think most if not all of their meat is free of antibiotics and is natural with organic greens.

Pros: Great Food. Great Food. Very attentive service. Next to American Apparel store.

Cons: parking?

Enjoyable food and atmosphere

by mindya

Had my 3rd lunch at Lucky's. I enjoyed it yet again. I had an omelet it was yummy. Was treated very well by the servers and it was another good experience. My friends and I will continue to go there for sure. It's a bit pricey, yeah, but it's Hollywood.

good food, horrible service

by chocolatechocolate

I'm going to echo a bunch of the other reviewers--the food was good, but the service leaves a LOT to be desired. We were there early on a (very not-crowded) Sunday night and had a party of five. Dinner began with the server bringing the wrong drinks which was followed by her being snippy while ordering. All of us ordered sandwiches; however, after a long wait, the first three were brought to our table, then five minutes later the fourth was brought, then ten minutes after that, the fifth was brought.

I ordered the chicken sandwich which, according to the menu, is served with pepper jack cheese. I wasn't in the mood for spice, so I asked for Swiss instead. The sandwich was spicy, and there were red pepper flakes on it so I assumed it was from the cheese. When I asked the server about it, she said, "we don't have pepper jack cheese," nevermind that the menu says the chicken sandwich comes with it.

The manager apologized for the wait and the sandwich and told us a new chef had started that night. Four months into a new restaurant and a new chef--not a good sign. He did offer us a free dessert (which we declined, but he still brought) and comped one of the sandwiches. We also noticed another table talking to the manager just before us.

Cons: horrible service

good but overpriced food, terrible service

by lucasbeecher

The food here is pretty good, although the prices are ridiculous ($9 chili cheese dog? $17 burgers). The fries are excellent - very similar to the fries at Jack-In-The-Box (coated with that layer of ?flour? to give them more crunch). The service is ridiculously bad. Had lunch with a friend - he got a burger, I got a chili cheese dog - and his food came out to the table 10 minutes before mine! WTF? Shouldn't you serve both of us at the same time, so that we can, uh, HAVE OUR LUNCH TOGETHER? Won't be going back

My New Favorite "Any Occasion" Place

by avideno

I've been here twice now...and both times were phenomenal. I've had the burger, the mac and cheese and the cupcakes...ALL were amazing. And on top of it, both servers I had were friendly, out-going and helpful. The second time I ate there was a birthday lunch, and WITHOUT even requesting it, the waiter brought out a lovely cupcake with a candle in it. Weekend nights are great for sitting on the patio and people watching...my friends were entertained the entire time. I think this place is well run and the food is delicious. It's a must try!

Pros: food, service, location

Cons: parking

Friendly, good food

by hahleewood

We're getting accustomed to the very expensive burger! And this one was worth it! The service was fast and friendly, food was good, and they seated us (per our reservation) right away. It's nice to have in the 'hood, we'll go back. Salad dressings were great, and the fries are divine.

Pros: Friendly family place

TERRIBLE!

by i_eat_la

I should not waste the time as this overrated, pretentious place will be gone in 4 months, but...
*Kobe Burger over-cooked and flavorless. $17! Give me a break.
*Poor service.
*Obvious (failed) rip-off of Father's Office + Sprinkles + Hip Los Feliz diners.

My friend had similar bad experience and wrote a review over a month ago, and it was deleted. I had to check it out myself. Sorry, Lucky: it is truly not a good restaurant. Get a veteran LA manager, invest in a grill and hood, get rid of the Nat'l Geographic Shark attack videos (not appetizing), add a few plants and a rug or two and take your prices down by 20% until you earn it. Go to Hungry Cat and see real ambience and a great Kobe Burger worth $17. Thanks

Pros: Air conditioning. Beer.

Cons: Food. Service. Pricing.

Another Trendy Hollywood place

by codex77

Let me get this out of the way: Best fries I've had in years. Other than that.....ugh. Worst service I've had in years, waiting 50 minute for 3 burgers is NOT ACCEPTABLE. I was watching the people in the kitchen, they were moving like molassas, one was even on the phone while she was cooking! The burgers were, eh. I've had a lot better, notably at The Counter and Houstons. The veggie burger, touted as homemade, was pretty lousy, very gummy and fell apart too easily. The buns here are very greasy, and the bugers themselves were greasy and heavy. They brag about Kobe beef, but the quality was not good. Yet another trendy Hollywood restaurant that can't back up the huge publicity push.

Pros: Great Fries! Good looking Dessert

Cons: Criminally slow kitchen, Burgers were too rich and greasy. Expensive

Promising

by johninthehills

I went here before an improv show with friends largely on the positive reviews here at Citysearch. The food was really good and very reasonable. I had the turkery burger, which was very moist and flavorful, the deserts are really good too, as are the tap beers. Service was above average and the place was clean. My only complaint was the music selection...Hootie and the Blowfish? Not gonna fly. I don't think tourists even listen to that anymore. A restaurant can die because of the music played - food is only part of the experience, especially in LA. My advice to management is to work on the ambiance. It'd be a shame if this place fails because of the music, everything else is great.

Pros: food, price

Cons: music
