Tres Agaves' mission is to help you discover the wonders of Jalisco, Mexico. From the food, to the music, to the extraordinary products that derive from the amazing agave plant - we are so passionate about the gifts that this region of the world has given us. We want you to experience them as well, which is why we try to bring a bit of Jalisco to you. The state of Jalisco, located in the Central Highlands, is home to Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city. It is also the birthplace of much of Mexican culture, including Mariachi music and of course, Tequila. The Tres Agaves name represents the three types of 100% Blue Agave Tequila (blanco, reposado, anejo). Our infatuation with the world's finest Tequilas is matched only by our passion for the food of Jalisco.
The Scene Housed in a converted warehouse, this striking restaurant boasts an industrial-chic vibe with exposed brick walls, visible rafters and dark wood furnishings. A magnificent tequila bar--divided from the dining room by a caged island of bottom-lit tequila bottles--hosts a lively after-work crowd of 30-something professionals. Diners in the softly lit main room get a full view of the open kitchen.
The Food An endless supply of freshly made tortilla chips and an array of house salsas, including a mild verde with a delightful lime zing, is promptly delivered to each table. The menu, stocked with traditional Jaliscan cuisine, features bite-sized starters, such as the griddled masa gorditas stuffed with spicy shredded beef and avocado salsa. Mains, such as carne en su jugo--a slightly sweet stew of slow-cooked beef, bacon, onions and cilantro in a hearty lime-based broth--come with six family-style sides, including green rice and shredded cabbage.
Tres Agaves is a great place to be after work or during baseball season. There are always a ton of people here drinking and having a good time. I cannot speak about the food, since I have yet to eat here. However, the selection of tequila is awesome. Make sure your liver is strong when you show up because it will be taking a beating with all the alcohol you are bound to consume. Highly recommend this place.

Excellent tequila, charming servers & great Mexican food!
By classicchic
If you want the real deal on all levels go to Tres Agaves. I recently went with a group of friends for margaritas and some various dishes. We really enjoyed the fish tacos and the guacamole was insanely good! We also had some of the slow cooked carnitas ? mmmmm?.so good. However you have to try the tequilas. We had a tasting party and learned about the real history of tequila. No shot glasses here, all tastings were served in appropriate spirits glasses. We had a fabulous time.
Pros: Excellent sipping tequilas, super great authentic food! Cons: really busy after a ball game!

Won't be returning

This place has gone WAY downhill since my last visit. Even on a ball-game night it wasn't filled.
Totally overpriced, service mediocre, the only thing I enjoyed (at not as much as I used to) were the margaritas. We would have been better off eating at Chevy's. I won't return.

Its good but Better to go yourself
By chrstina4u29
So, go there and get a bite. Service is pretty lame, but not awful. I wouldn't go here on a weekend or with a date I was trying to impress, but for a casual meal and some tasty, potent drinks, it'll do. I also wouldn't come looking for enchiladas, fajitas, and the like as they are nowhere to be found.

I was told by the waiter that a group got priority over my date and I!!
By rcucelaya
I have to give it one star because the food was good. However, after I sat down, a group of 4 to my right and a couple to my left got their food way before we did, and I got there first! I asked the waiter what the problem was and he said that a group takes priority over my date and I. I sat there for 30 minutes without drinks or food. I kept asking for the appetizer and they kept saying 5 minutes. In fact, when the food finally came, the appetizer came AFTER the main course! That's not the worst part: I kept asking for tableware and a napkin and never got it. After 45 minutes, I HAD TO GO TO AN EMPTY TABLE AND BRING TABLEWARE FOR MY DATE AND I!! There are much better places with the same quality food in San Francisco. Try Zazil in the Westfield Mall, Tommy's Mexican Restaurant and Colibri. You'll get better service and the tequila is just as good.
As a note, my bill for TWO people was $134.00. Not worth it for the horrible service I received. Go there for drinks, but avoid dining. Best to sit at the bar. Believe me, I told all my friends about this experience.

Pros: Good food, good drinks. Cons: HORRIBLE service, rudeness, not worth the trouble. No valet parking on a Saturday.

Totally radical at any price!!! But the price IS nice.

I went here after a Giants game at AT&T park, which is walking distance. The food was really good. I had pastor tacos and they were solid. All of the food is served family style with shared sides. The portions are huge. I think I've got a huge appetite and there is no way we could have finished it all. And the price was just right. Dinner and 2 beers each for 2 people and it was under 50 bucks. I'd go back. Twice.
Pros: Kitchen open late, reasonable prices, good food, friendly service Cons: The beers made me drunk. WTF?
