1 Stars: Noisy, No A/C, Rip-Off apartments. This place is GARBAGE! (by Bill A.)

The simple fact is that there are so many, many things wrong with Library Gardens that they astronomically outweigh the good, and when you are paying $2200 for a 2-bedroom apartment, that just isn't good enough.Biggest problem? NOISE! The windows in your apartment are made from something close to ceran wrap. To make matters worse because of the courtyard layout everything echoes and is therefore magnified in volume. If your neighbor has a window open across the yard you will be able to hear everything... I mean, literally everything, even if YOUR windows are closed. It's unbelievable. I have lost count of the amount of sleepless nights I have had because of someones TV or stereo or students partying. It's the same in the corridors and halls. Someone chatting on a cell-phone? You'll hear it! Someone having an argument? You'll hear it! And I don't mean just in a distant, background din kind of a way. I mean in a right next to you as if somebody were doing this in your apartment kind of a way. You simply cannot get any peace and quiet here. There is also a weird amount of internal noise, such as loud water pipes between the walls and "AC units" (for why that is in quotes read on) on the roof that emit a slowly haunting and steadily gnawing "white noise" at night which, over the period of your lease, will draw you to the edges of your sanity. There are a lot of other things wrong too. Elevators that are always broken down, faulty appliances in your apartment, laundry dryers that refuse to dry your clothes, incredibly loud fridges that howl like an angry wolf for thirty minutes at a time. So many things about these apartment are horrific and awful that when you hand over your 2,200 bucks every month you will feel an angry rage in your gut. It's here that we come to the other big problem with these "luxury" apartments. No AC. Seriously none. When I first moved in I thought my temperature control was bust, the place was so hot. There is a a wall unit which gives you a readout of your apartment's temperature. Trust me, never expect it to be below 70. From here you can allegedly program the temp you want it to be and the "cool air" will kick in. Except for one slight, teeny, minor problem. There is no AC! A couple of tiny little fans behind vents in your wall will faintly exhale something roughly equivalent to that which a butterfly's wings flapping from 50 feet away might produce. That's it! Within a week I had to go out and buy fans.Final things to mention: Parking is $100. Make sure to add that on to the rent when you are doing your sums. Also it is worth noting that there seems to be no fixed price on what a place can go for. The apartments are listed on Craigs' List every day and at different times of the year they will be going for wildly different prices. Getting to know my neighbors before I moved proved really interesting when we compared what we were paying, often totally different amounts for identical apartments. At the moment they are advertising 1 beds for 2,000 dollars! Seriously, 2,000 dollars for 500 square feet of misery! If you get signed up in to that deal, then you really are a sucker! Even the staff here suck. They are sullen, unhelpful and only concerned with leasing apartments. The second you have signed the lease, they will treat you like a worthless piece of dirt. Oh.. and they can and will raise your rent whenever they like. We were offered a manager's special after our 9 months expired... which was $160 more than when we moved in!! Seriously. Oh and by the way, they don't advertise this or tell you when you move in, but there is an apartment manager on site. Get this though... she has a 'do not disturb sign' on her door! Can you believe that!? Seriously, this place is the pits! Library Gardens is an outrageous rip-off. The idea that this is luxurious living is laughable. I hated living here. I don't know anybody that has ever renewed their lease. I drew a big sigh of relief when moving out. My advice to anyone thinking of moving here would be don't, don't, don't, DON'T!
