5 Stars: chef world (by jkimmel)

Being a chef, very cool sighting at my favorite neighborhood spot..... Alice Waters!!! It looked like she asked for a table for 4 even though she had 6 people. The Chef was bringing food to the table and enjoying a glass of wine with her in between courses. One of my friends had no idea who she was and the two were in awe of the relevant chef in the US if not the world.

5 Stars: A proposal to remember (by vavavavoom)

A few days ago I went to Ford's for happy hour, which turned into a long dinner when some colleagues walked in. We were sitting in the middle of the main room minding our business about to sign the check after the most delicious meal when one of the servers brought out a dessert to the table next to us. Since I had opted for no dessert, I was curious to see what they ordered. It was a jewelry box!!!!! His girlfriend was so surprised when he proposed. I looked around and every women around had tears in their eyes. It was such a beautiful moment. Life is beautiful.

3 Stars: Food ok, service mediocre (by DenaG)

I went to Ford's Filling Station on Saturday afternoon with 2 friends for lunch. The menu has a good selection but the food was only ok (nothing so delicious that I would go back). The servcie was slow and they were not busy at 1pm on Saturday, so we really didn't understand why it took so long for her to take our order or deliver our food. They also messed up one order when the hamburger is supposed to come with carmelized onions and the burger was delivered without what the menu said it came with. It was an ok lunch but with only one alcholic drink, the bill was $72, so I don't really have a need to try this place again.

1 Stars: Okay food, bad service! (by gleasonrbrt)

Our party of four arrived for dinner and was completely ignored at the door by several staff members. The hostess and waitress (Marie) were so rude and unprofessional that we almost left in disgust before finishing our meal. The food was decent, especially the meat and cheese platters and the flatbreads, but there are too many other really great restaurants in the area to put up with such bad service!

5 Stars: This Place Rocks! (by Bleome H.)

Great Food, Good Location, Reasonably Priced, Hot Waitresses. I recommend Ford's. I recently had a business lunch there, and they did a fabulous job. Great salads and good hearty food. Also, it does not hurt that the waitresses are hot! Check this place out. Good stuff!

4 Stars: Wow. Huge Improvement from two years ago! (by puckstar68)

So the last time I was there...
Yikes. Bad Service. Eh food. and even the drinks were (apperently I'm not allowed to say cr*p [*=a] on city search). So Last Sat. my friend really wanted to go, event after I told her all about what had happened. So we went. Um...180 anyone? Greeted immediately. Sat in less than 10 minutes. Our server was great. He was really helpful and steered us in the right way as far as food choice. I had a flatbread with burata (sp?) cheese on it. Amazing. So, I gotta say, it wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered. Dare I say...good? Ah screw it. I'll be back.

4 Stars: Yum. (by jbails1075)

I really liked this place. It was a lot more casual than I expected and that was kind of refreshing. I loved the menu and thought the platter of assorted meats and cheeses was awesome. I'm still not brave enough to try the head cheese but I have every intention of going back and taking the plunge. Try it.

5 Stars: it's like hanging out in your living room (by hedaya)

Last night was awesome at the filling station. We had a great time sitting at the bar. It was my friend's first time, and he said it felt like we were sitting in his living room. The music selection was stellar. We played a couple games of backgammon while sipping on some delicious wine. After an hour of after watching everyone's plates be devoured around us, we decided to go with the rabbit and octopus specials. THey were both to die for.

Ford's Filling Station is one of the best restaurants in Culver City. Great hamburgers and onion rings for the kids. Great delicacies for the adults. Good American Fare done with a great chef's iron touch. A little expensive, but worth it!

3 Stars: Service and Management Clueless (by lisa_f)

I'm definitely a foodie, and I enjoy going to all of the local food and wine events in the LA area. I have been lucky enough to have quite a few chats with some big named chefs in this area. So, that is the reason why I finally made it to this restaurant, which is a bit of a drive from where I live in Brentwood. Ben seems to be a very warm, down to earth person the few times I have seen and chatted with him.

So you can understand that when my husband and I went there for our first time, I was assuming the staff would be up to par with his persona...NOT THE CASE! The waiter ( Aaron) made my husband and I feel uncomfortable from the time he stepped up to our table. He's one of those guys that is disappointed that you aren't going to be bringing a doggie bag home along with us. He's attitude was " You're only going to order the 18.00 cheese plate and the a 13.00 dollar Salad...., and your only having two ten dollar cocktails, and a bottle of Pellegrino" Mind you it was 11:30 in the morning on a saturday. He's attitude was lousy, and my husband and I were greatly disappointed. I asked to speak with the manager ( Teresa). She was just as condescending...she made excuses for him, more than she tried to resolve the manner professionally. Then she thought if she offered us something free, it would turn the whole situation around. I kindly told her, we didn't ask you to come here to offer us something free...We wanted to let you know personally that your staff is behaving with a salty attitude towards customers who are generous tippers, no matter how much our bill comes out to be. I had also advised her that I have seen and spoken to Ben at several events, and I would definitely tell him my feed back when I see him again. She comes back to the table afterwards and tries to quiz me to see what events I have seen him at! SERVICE WAS UNBEARABLE!! The food was good, but not enough for us to go back to the restaurant. Definitely don't recommend it!

5 Stars: Delicious is the best word! (by mytable)

You know how you find a place and want to back again and again because there's always something new - and it's always good? Well, I found my place in LA...and here are my thoughts. I was in LA for 10 days - 5 of us ate at fords the second night. Came back for lunch 3 times - yes - I made the drive all the way from Hollywood - it was my comfort spot in this beautiful little neighborhood. Jamon Serrano, Hot Sopressata, and Mortadella - little olives - ate the plate clean - delicious! Also tried this new dish they recommended called Sturgeon Confit with smoked tomatoes and olive and leek compote on a crostini - yikes it was incredible!! I was skeptical but it was major delicious. 4 Cheese Pizza on flatbread - light and savory! Kusshi Oysters - small and succulent - (usually I get tough big ones in other restaurants) great! Roasted Beet Salad - my mother used to force to eat beets - so this is the first time since a kid to eat them on a dare at the table - I loved them!!! (in shock) Buttermilk Fried Chicken - I am from the south so I wondered about this one but decided to try because our server recommended it - but it was crispy and boneless - on top of great potatoes and succotash .... I have died and gone to heaven! Polenta Cake - wow - I had no idea polenta could be so delicious. Fish and Chips - Every bite was perfect! We also tried the Shrimp Curry - as a curry aficionado I have to admit this is really good - the bacon on top and the toppings on the side make it perfect. And something that brought me back for lunch 3 more times ( I am now addicted) - the Pulled Pork Panini! Unbelievable! I hated to see the last bite go. For dessert we had dark chocolate Tobblerone ice cream. Silky and rich!!! Also had the banana split - we all devoured it too...with three scoops of all the Toblerone flavors in it. Yummy and big! And one more thing - they make fresh lemonade there - couldn't resist! I am so crazy about this restaurant. It feels so good and comfortable.

5 Stars: new favorite restaurant (by struesdell)

My fiance and I went here last night for the first time. I can't say enough good things about it. I had the flat iron steak. It was cooked to perfection. Fiance had the special, sturgeon, which was amazing. It was presented on mashed potatoes that had been whipped up with sturgeon. The food was impeccable. Everything was so intentional and well-matched. The service was good. Laid-back and not too pushy. I was very impressed and the place was worth every penny.

4 Stars: If you don't want to deal with wait at Father's Office, try this place instead. (by bkbigfish)

Usually on everyone's list to try, Father's Office has become a nuisance to go to. The microbrews and the much ballyhooed burger is worthy of accolades, the wait and the seating is just about unbearable. A friend and I decided to try out Ford's Filling Station. Although they don't have any microbrews to speak of, they do have decent beers on tap. We ordered the burger...pretty darn good and much heartier than FO. The place was fairly packed on Saturday night, but we were able to get a seat at the bar within minutes and a table in less than 30 minutes. Overall, pretty decent. However, take note that a new FO is suppose to open in Culver City in 08.

5 Stars: Great upscale dining in up and coming Culver City (by Darius W.)

Ford's is the anchor of what I call the "New Culver City." This is a great restaurant with a laid back vibe and amazing food. Ben Ford (Harrison's son) has created an eclectic American food menu with dishes ranging from tasty to sublime. The staff is always courteous and friendly, and the glasses of wine are generous. A little on the pricey side, but well worth it. Just be sure to make a reservation!!

5 Stars: Recent review of their special lecture / dinner. Most innovative & delicious restaurant in LA. (by plexicon)

Last week, my husband & I went to Ford?s for a special lecture/dinner entitled, ?What the hell is a Gastropub?? The evening featured true gastropub dishes (too many to list here!) & special guest, Peter Bouckaert, brewmaster of New Belgium Brewery. Each of our chosen courses was paired w/ a New Belgium brew. Once we ordered, Ford began his lecture, which was informative, thought provoking, informal & fun. The food was impeccable (as it has been every time we have eaten at Ford?s). We started w/ Chilled Marinated Leeks & Smoked Trout Brandade. Both were beyond delicious. My leeks were marinated in a vinaigrette made from New Belgium?s La Folie beer; the taste was epic. My husband swore he wanted to eat the Smoked Trout Brandade everyday for the rest of his life. For entrees, we ordered Shoreman?s Pie w/ crab, clams, leeks, sweet peas & truffle potato + vegetarian polenta w/ frisee & herb mascarpone (this wasn?t on the menu but was kindly prepared for me). Our entrees were stellar. The mascarpone was to die for & my husband thoroughly enjoyed the Shoreman?s Pie, an unconventional take on a classic dish. For dessert, we ordered Ricotta w/ Chestnut Honey. Totally amazing. All of the paired beers definitely complimented the food. We thought the idea & actualization was adventurous & perfectly appropriate. Overall, the evening was immensely enjoyable + a good deal on all of the food & beer we were served. Ford?s enthusiasm & commitment to his beliefs were palpable, both in his speech, as well as in the food. Yes, the proof is in the pudding. Nowhere else can you find a chef so dedicated to creating a restaurant with a welcoming vibe, community spirit & unpretentious atmosphere that serves innovative comfort food using the freshest seasonal ingredients & truly pushes boundaries. We?ll definitely be back for the upcoming lectures/dinners, as well as whenever we want our mouths & minds challenged, enlightened & satisfied by one of the best restaurants/chefs in town.

4 Stars: Avoid the empty patio (by sashalaing)

We went for lunch and arrived wet (it was raining) and bedraggled. The hostess took one look at my droopy 10 year old and led us to the totally empty patio. I got the message and protested. She told me the main room was only for reservations, but when I told her that unless we occupied one of the empty tables in the warmer area we were leaving, she gave us a table (but not after banging the menus onto our table after seating us). My daughter wanted to leave, but I knew the food was great and our waitress was charming, so we stayed and enjoyed the fried clams (which is a huge platter for an appetizer, with a terrific tartar sauce). My kid had the baguette french toast with bacon and strawberries, which was delicious. I finished with one of the biggest cappucinos I've had recently and on our way out spotted the grumpy hostess eating lunch at one of the "reserved" tables. It did put a damper on a rainy but tasty lunch.

5 Stars: Great Bartenders, Good drinks, Good food (by jessy97)

My boyfriend and I had never been so we checked it out on Friday night. The restaurant was packed and the wait was too long for a table so we decided to eat dinner at the bar. The two female bartenders were really knowledgable and very gracious. The food and the dessert was really good too. We'll definitely be back.

Ate her based on reviews alone, ordered apps at the bar, good service, loud room, good casual decor. the shrimp pizza was terrible, and the salad was boring and bland. I would return for drinks but not the food.

2 Stars: Overpriced and slow service (by oneveggie)

Having read lots about Ford's Filling Station on a walk around Culver City we thought we would try it. I ordered the fish and chips and my friend ordered a burger. The fish was greasy and pretty boring especially for the price of $22. My friend's burger was better than the fish but still for the prices you would expect the service to be better. The servers seemed more interested in talking with each other than being attentive to the customers. We sat outside and they rarely came out to the tables. We probably won't go back and have told our local friends it's not worth the money. Too bad as we were hoping for great food!

2 Stars: Unfortunately didn't live up to the hype (by u2ireland)

My husband and I went here on a date and luckily we made reservations bc the place was hopping. Though we were seated quickly due to our reservations our server didn't approach us for our drink or food order for over 15 minutes. We order the fish and chips and the burger and both were less than mediocore. The fish and chips were $22 and basically just a greasy, bland mess. The burger was better, but just OK - if you're going to pay over $15 it should really good. And like I said before, the service was pretty terrible. Our server checked on us once the whole night after bringing our food and we had to hunt her down to get our check. And believe me, we weren't in a hurry it's just that we didn't want to spend over 3 hours waiting around.

Decent selection of beers.

4 Stars: fun and busy (by heidigermaine83)

I was visiting girlfriends in LA and my friend lived just a few blocks from here so when I got into town we went here first. The food was good and the service too, but it seemed a bit overpriced. It wasn't like a really nice, posh restaurant and the food wasn't much posh either but the prices were. Was busy though and my gal says it's fair new so they must be doing much right, right?

My friends and I are hard to please! Found that the food was very, very fresh, perfectly prepared, neither over seasoned nor under seasoned and servers were accommodating and agreeable.
5 Stars: Worth its "Wait" in Gold (by movieshark)

With summer still in full swing, there is nothing more enjoyable than stopping by Ford's. Capitalizing on his use of fresh ingredients in keeping with the season, Chef Ford & his talented kitchen staff never cease to amaze me with their innovative flavor sensations, the newest of which I had last week - New England Crab Cakes with strawberry relish. Simply delectable. The crab is fresh & tasty laced with just the right hint of peppers and onion. The flavors simply pop in your mouth & the strawberry relish is a simply incredible taste sensation. It glides over the palate with a slight sweetness & a hint of fragrance of a summer breeze wafting over a strawberry patch. Divine. I could make a meal of just the relish. One of my faves is still the Caesar salad with fresh white anchovies but with chicken added. Light, tasty and the crusted boneless chicken breast on top - simply succulent. One of the talented bartenders introduced me to a great afternoon summer drink of vodka-pomegranate juice and sprite. Light and delicious. A lunch "must have" is the steak sandwich with a horseradish creme dressing (but get extra dressing) & 3 potato wedges that had just the right amount of crispness on the outside with a flavorful potato taste inside. The perfect size and perfect amount of food for an afternoon. Not a dessert person, I was compelled to try the Almond brown butter cake with bing cherries. Forget the cherries. The cake is great and reminds me of a butter cake my grandmother used to make. Yummy. I still say Ford's has the friendliest most competent and attentive servers and bartenders around, not to mention chefs whose talents are amazing. I can't say it enough to potential Ford's diners, for food, drink, friendly atmosphere and attentive staff and management, FORD'S FILLING STATION is THE best place in Culver City and them some. Make a reservation, plan to have a litle bit of a wait on weekend nights, but your taste buds will be well rewarded.

3 Stars: Don't believe the hype (by bonkabonka)

Who knew Culver City would become so cool? Ford?s Filling Station definitely has the location thing locked down. Not so much the food. There?s more hype than substance here. And although the menu items sound interesting, I can?t say the same for the execution. Aside from the slightly fancier ingredients, the food is average at best. If you are looking for an amazing culinary experience, you might be disappointed. Upside, it?s in a cool part of town and the restaurant, at least for now, is a hip place to be.

1 Stars: VERY DISAPPOINTING! (by csy68)

Due to numerous recommendations and Ben Ford's impressive culinary resume, I expected much more from FFS. Pros first: the decor is warm, and the hostesses were friendly. This was, however, by far the worst dining experience I've had at this high price point, and I actually think the food made me sick that night and the following day.

We ordered the white shrimp flatbread to start, which was completely flavorless. For entrees, we had the pub burger and the night's special, a shrimp scampi over arugula risotto. The burger's blue cheese overwhelmed the flavor, and the greens in the burger seemed limp and soggy. As a passionate burger afficionado, I knew right away that it was not worth $16. The onion rings were fine, though, with a unique crispy batter.

The shrimp scampi was a complete waste of $25, and the first time I considered sending a dish back. After navigating through the ginormous shells, there was actually very little edible meat. Both the shrimp and the risotto had no real discernable flavors besides saltiness and fishiness.

We thought perhaps they would redeem themselves with dessert, and we chose the creme brulee, a dish that isn't too hard to get right. It had the consistency and taste of chocolate pudding with a top that had no crackle. It was accompanied by a chocolate caramel thing on some wax paper that was presented in such a way that made it look like...well imagine what a log of chocolate on a piece of paper looks like. Very unattractive.

A table of 4 not-so-picky foodies, we were all disappointed in our meal, especially since much of it was based on our waiter's recommendations. The evening ended on an appropriate note when the waiter forgot about us and had us wait for about 15 minutes to pick up our check. All of this could have been chalked up to a run of bad ordering luck, but getting sick the next day after eating at an expensive restaurant is unacceptable in my book. Disappointed on all fronts.

1 Stars: Disappointing in all ways..... (by madal)

Disappointing---

I had to laugh when ,in your sign-up instructions you ask me if this is my first "massage." No, but it is my first "mEssage."

Being a foody, I have been to many fine restaurants. I have a taste for good tasting meals. I always remember what I ordered if I like a place. Sometimes, if it is not very good, I also remember. In this case, I remember this restaurant as being very disappointing. I ordered the chicken plate. Very mediocre chicken, gooey, runny mashed potatoes, and some corn kernels. I may have been eating at a diner with this very boring dish. The other two people at my table had equally forgettable items at outrageous prices. The ambience is like that of a beer joint. The side patio is very plain, but is the best place to sit, as the front patio has tremendous noise due to the traffic. This place is highly overrated. The best thing I can say is that no one got sick. I would not want to go back to this restaurant again.

I went into Fords for lunch today. The place was soooo packed but the hostess told us we could eat at the bar if we wanted to. My friend and I ended up having what is considered to be one of LA?s best burgers. The greatest part of our lunch was when our bartender started playing dice with us! It was nice to visit Fords at lunch rather than dinner for once, different menu / different energy. Both of which I enjoy a great deal. I am usually take meetings there at dinner but it seems like lunch is the real meeting spot.

5 Stars: Fabulous Time! (by martinikitty13)

Had a wonderful time here recently (after a very bad experience at Bottlerock) - the food, service and atmosphere of this place totally cheered me up. Tom (the bartender) made us great vodka martinis and was very attentive and patient with us (since we were there for like 6 hours)! We had wonderful cheese and charcuterie plates (the petite basque and machengo were really good) and fish & chips (upscale version of this classic pub food, with fresh cod, fried asparagus, etc.). We also had a yummy brownie sundae followed by lots and lots of delicious wine. I can't wait to go back! (Tip - for dinner, you do need advance reservations as the place gets packed!)

We had the most amazing 3 course meal here last Thursday. We shared the burrata/prosciutto salad - it was very good and a HUGE portion. I had the appetizer special of the day - steamed clams, which was more than large enough for an entree portion. My husband had the delicious fish & chips. He gave it 5 stars, and he should know, he's a Brit. The dessert was amazing as well - rhubarb crumble. Not the cheapest place but an all-around non-rushed, excellent meal & great wait staff.

I just had the best experience at this restaurant. I came in for a beer and a late lunch and I ended up pulling one of their books off of their book shelf and stayed there for the afternoon reading and enjoying myself in what was a casual afternoon.

I like to go in to Ford's a couple times a week and sit at the bar. Most of the time I eat and it is quite good. I had thought about writing them a review in the past but felt compelled after my meal last night. My friend had the most unbelievable Halibut and I had my new favorite dish, the polenta cake.
1 Stars: Overrated (by missfoodie2006)

Went to FFS for the first time last Saturday. My friend had raved about the steamed clam special, which we ordered one each of, plus a duck salad to share, and drinks. The clams would have been OK if not for the inclusion of pretty-shelled, but gross-to-eat longneck (I think that's what they're called) clams. The duck salad was overdressed, weighing down the delicate baby lettuces, and the duck iteslf (which I normally adore) was gamey and poorly-seasoned. My glass of wine was good (cote de rhone) and my friend seemed to like his fiery martini made with jalepeno, but I didn't care for it. Just not my taste. Other than the food, the service was slow and not particularly inviting. And sitting outside, our dining neighbor had a rodent perching on his lap, which he flung into the restaurant window, then scurried away, causing a customer or two to scream. The servers had no clue any of this happened, and when the man told them, they did not apologize or offer us anything to make up for the unappetizing experience. Not that it was their fault, but it reflects on them nonetheless. I would not go to FFS again, and I would not recommend it.

5 Stars: What a Treat (by givesadamn)

My wife and I love this place. Can get busy on the weekends, we actually prefer going during the week. Such a great atmosphere, teriffic food, and a solid staff. I totally recommend checking this place out oh and also make sure to take a look at the wine list - great menu.

4 Stars: casual but stylish bar w/ charcuterie bar menu too! (by gazelle27)

rustic minimal vibe, friendly staff, good cocktails (one of the rare places that have both fresh caipirhinia AND mojitos)! Only had Shrimp flatbread app at the bar and not a full dinner so can't say much on that but menu seemed solid. Shrimp scampi esque topping was delicious w/ the slices of lemon and the charcuterie menu was great for the bar. I'd definitely go back for real dinner.

3 Stars: Over priced wine. Okay food. Young and Hip. (by paperfold)

For the price we paid, the food was okay. It's a hip "In" place. Waitress was excellent and friendly. Kobe Beef was okay -- but for $32, it was too mushy to actually taste what made Kobe Beef so famous. Wine list was small and very expensive for their value. Food was not creative, but the atmosphere is hip but relaxed. Food didn't stand out from the rest of higher end hip restaurants in town. Good place to go after movies.

The Pub Burger, Crispy Chicken, Fish 'n Chips, and Brook Trout are some of the best entrees at this establishment. The staff is wonderful as well as helpful.
5 Stars: Avoid on Sundays (by bentonscott)

I have been to FFS at least a dozen times and I have to say that this place rocks! The atmosphere has a chill vibe that is very relaxing. My favorite entrees are the Polenta Cake, Crispy Chicken Breast, Lamb Sirloin, and Kobe Beef Cheeks. The flatbreads are amazing and the desserts are to die for. The head chef and owner, Benjamin Ford, occasionally greets his guests while they eat. He's a sweetheart! Be sure to ask to sit at the banquette table if you are on a date; it's very romantic. One of these days I'll be sitting there with my significant other...oh yes...one of these days. You might want to avoid on Sundays as the restaurant is closed.

5 Stars: Great food, great atomosphere (by wilby120)

We went here last night with a bunch of friends and were extremely impressed. The appetizers were amazing (oysters, clams, flatbread, burrata salad, etc.). This place is known for their meat, but they recommended their polenta dish to me, as a vegetarian. This dish was out of this world! The polenta was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside -- a very hearty meal. My husband ordered the kobe beef cheeks which he couldn't stop talking about once we left the place. And we tasted many of the desserts, all of which were delicious (a peanut butter/ fudge combo was my favorite). I really enjoyed the atmosphere as well -- laid-back and intimate. It was decorated very nicely, with dim lighting to set the mood. And I loved the fire from the stove in the kitchen being on display. An overall great experience --I will definitely come back soon!

5 Stars: Unexpectedly wonderful (by fengshwa)

My ex-girlfriend just raves about this place and I finally decided to find out why. So I stopped in. Now I know why she loves it. I thought I was a great cook and could mix and match flavors and textures, and I thought some of my favorite restaurant choices had good food, but my stuff and the food in other places I frequent is lousy compared to Ford's! Used to having kobe beef at japanese/suchi places, I tried the kobe at Ford's and was shocked at how tender and tasty it was. Totally unexpected and wonderful. tAlso tried the asparagus with parmesan and loved it although it could do with a bit more cheese. The chocolate dessert thing was so good I had two. I wanted some shrimp cocktail but they were sold out for the night. And while I don't know much about wine, I recognize the good labels from the wines my ex drank and see some of them at Ford's. Love the varieties of Tequila. Would really like to see them carry Chartreuse though. I want to go back to try some other menu items (the meat and cheese platters someone on the next table had looked really good) but I'm afraid I'll run into my ex...and I'll feel stupid since I would never go with her to Ford's and now I'm sorry I didn't. The music is really great, too. The place has a nice vibe to it and I will be back.

5 Stars: Chocolatey and good (by princetommy)

I love chocolate. I love clams. I love chicken. Ford's has all the food I like. The chicken was very good. It was moist with a little crunch from the coating. The clams were as good as the fried ones down at the shore back East. More importantly, Ford's has clams! they are very hard to find in LA unless you go to a Howard Johnson's on Fridays and those are greasy. The clams at Ford's are light and sweet. I even got an order to go to munch on in the car. But the chocolate dessert was the best. Very chocolatey and very very good. I'll be back!!

5 Stars: Incredible foodie spot in Culver City (by sagilchr)

I can?t say enough good things about this restaurant; it has a warm inviting space, very helpful and attentive serving staff and most importantly, delicious food. I stopped by for dinner on Wednesday and wound up sampling a variety of their dishes including the mussels cooked in a delicious broth, the beef cheek which were braised to perfection on a bed of cous cous, the pork loin (which is something that everyone should try, you?ll never believe it?s pork it?s so good) and the lemon cheesecake (personal favorite). Also, if you get the chance, I recommend sampling the cava, it?s Spanish champagne that compliments any meal. I came in with no expectations and left a huge fan. I highly recommend!

5 Stars: Good Tasting Flattened Chicken (by hermanae)

What an interesting place! Last night was my first visit but I will be back! I ordered the flattened chicken and wasn't disappointed. The portion was large enough that I took some home. I've never seen flattened chicken on a restaurant menu before and after tasting the one at Ford's, I can't understand why. Unless no one else can make it right. This had a nice coating. Was very tasty and each bite was moist with a little crunch from the light crust coating. Home cooking with a little twist. Looking at the menu, I think I will try the pork tenderloin next time.

5 Stars: Sensational Shrimp Cocktail (by sophielouise)

I just had the Shrimp Cocktail in a spicy tomato chutney last night! Mmmm Mmmm Great! Tender, firm shrimp smothered in a tangy topping made with fresh horseradish. (Could add a little more of that for my taste!) And these weren't little shrimp! Probably the biggest shrimp I have seen in a restaurant dish. Must have been about 8 of them, too. It tasted so good that I didn't order dinner just I could keep savoring the taste of the shrimp cocktail on my tongue. More please!!!!!!!!!!!

5 Stars: Five Stars All Around (by deblore)

With summer still in full swing, there is nothing more enjoyable than stopping by Ford's. Capitalizing on his use of fresh ingredients in keeping with the season, Chef Ford & his talented kitchen staff never cease to amaze me with their innovative flavor sensations, the newest of which I had last nite - New England Crab Cakes with strawberry relish. Yummy. I still say, Ford's has the friendliest most competent and attentive servers and bartenders around, not to mention chefs whose talents are amazing.

3 Stars: Good service, mixed food values for the price. (by suestaub)

I was really concerned about the mixed reviews and have to say they are mixed in our family too. While many reviewers touted the fish and chips, I thought they were poor for the price. Coating was too doughy, not crisp and crunchy like in England. My husband however had the port and thought it perfectly cooked and flavorful, hard to find these days. The menu is a bit pricy for the ambiance, so I can't really say we'll go back.

I love restaurants with amazing food, yet it hasn't gone to their heads. The hotesses and waiters are so friendly, not the least bit pretentious. The food is delicious...the butter leaf lettuce is a nice way to start with some flat bread pizza. For entrees, go for the scallops, very good. My boyfriend and I have been there twice and both times left completely satisfied and in a good mood. It's a place for both a date and just to have drinks and dinner with some friends.
3 Stars: Good meal, good service (by paralusz)

I was a little hesitant to try FFS after some of the reviews I read here but last night I went to the restaurant for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. We had reservations on Valentine's Day at 8:30pm and were greeted warmly by the host. We were seated immediately and our server, David, was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Both he and the manager came by throughout our meal to make sure our drinks were filled - sometimes without even noticing that they had come by, I looked down and my empty iced tea was now full. The food was good - we tried a couple of the flatbreads (yummy) and the chocolate creme brulee was to die for! My only complaint would be that I would have liked to have seen a bigger menu, but what I ate was delicious. To top it off, the owner, Ben Ford, and his famous father, Harrison Ford, sat eating dinner at the table next to us with no one bothering them (which I was glad to see). Maybe we caught the restaurant on an "off night", meaning the service and food were great because the owner and his father were there, but I didn't care. I would definitely go back. If you are looking for a cool, casual restaurant with good food, I would definitely recommend Ford's Filling Station. Harrison Ford appearances not guaranteed!

3 Stars: Salad & Entree Eh - Dessert Yum (by pixies)

I had heard some mixed reviews but was looking forward to checking it out for myself. The main room is inviting and cozy. The wines by the glass were lovely. Sadly, I was underwhelmed by the food. The butter lettuce salad was bland and the Halibut I had as my main dish was overcooked (dry, dry, dry). The high note was the dessert. I shared the chocolate creme brulee which is heavenly. I might try it again for lunch.

4 Stars: Know a few things before you go (by thismaenad)

I went to Ford's last month after wanting to visit the restaurant since it first opened. In summary, what I can tell you is KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO AND BE PREPARED. First of all, if you're patronizing the restaurant during the winter/early spring months, ensure when you make reservations that you specify that you want an INDOOR TABLE (and make sure to confirm your reservations with a living, breathing person.) My boyfriend and I came in expecting them to ask us if we wanted inside our out, but our reservations meant we got an outside table. My boyfriend has a shaved head and didn't bring a hat, so we had to make do with the fleece blanket the server gave us "as a courtesy." (Snagging an inside table meant waiting an extra hour!) Secondly, please know that the place gets very loud and crowded, even on weekdays.
The food IS great, especially the burger and polenta cake! I'd like to try other things on their menu soon, so I'll be coming again.
Also, for all those reviewers who complain about the seating wait, understand that the demand for food and drink is MUCH MORE popular than their supply of seats, so naturally, there's going to be a backup!!! Either go someplace else... or be patient and understand these simple laws of economics.

4 Stars: Keep the crazies out! (by gwennie74)

My girlfriends and I tried Ford's Filling Station for the first time on a weekday and loved it, so when my husband wanted to go out on saturday night I suggested we go there. We made reservations for 8pm, which i understand is during the dinner rush. when we got there they told us that they had a table outside ready for us. I was fine but my husband wasn't wearing a jacket. when we told the hostess that we made reservations, she explained that the restaurant doesn't reserve specific tables or areas. my husband and i kicked ourselves a little for not requesting inside. we decided to wait for an inside table, knowing that it might not be immediate seating. while we sipped our wine and waited near the bar, another group came in and threw a fit because, like us, they had to wait for an inside table. one man was almost foaming at the mouth with rage! i was appalled with how he and the rest of his party spoke to the host staff and management! this group was ruining my night out. We had to wait for a table too, but we realized that we were offered a table right when we got there and we turned it down. Mr. Ford, please enforce the policy of "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" so that those of us who aren't crazy can enjoy our nights.

5 Stars: One of my favorite places (by sevensamarai)

Absolutely wonderful place in my hometown!!! One of my favorite places to go. Nice ambiance and the Pork Porterhouse is to die for. The appetizers (meats and cheeses) were delicious - I let the server select. She also selected the flatbread (shrimp). The entrees were original and the portions were more than enough. Of course the wine and drink prices were a little high, but you have to expect that. The overall price of the dinner and drinks were appropriate. My only disappointment was sitting at a table under the "Specials" Board so diners kept coming over, standing right up to the table and reading the selections. Great local and probably the centerpiece of Culver City eating. With Wilson, Tender Greens, S&W, and Surfa's looks like Culver City is on the up and up.

5 Stars: Games, food and wine (by culvercityrocks)

We hung out at the bar all night ? playing backgammon while eating lots of great food and wine. I had the rabbit which had chunks of artichokes and some sort of yummy sauce. My boyfriend had the porchetta which I guess they only have on special occasions. He said it was the best thing he?s ever had. The bartender recommended fo us to split a bottle of Paige 23 Viognier. It was a great choice for both of our dishes.

1 Stars: BAD, BAD, BAD (by bellabear)

We went to Ford's last Saturday night. It was my second time dining there. Though my first visit was not very enjoyable (the food was cold and bland, the service slow), my friends wanted to go, so I agreed.

This second trip was truly one of the WORST experiences I've ever had at a restaurant in Los Angeles. Although we had a reservation, we waited for more than half an hour for our table. Once we were seated, they had shoved six of us onto a table for four. When we asked for another table, we were made to wait over an hour. Finally we sat down, at almost 11:00 pm (we had a 9:00 reservation) only to be received by the manager who was rude and unaccomodating. I would expect that after keeping a party waiting for almost 2 hours, she would bend over backwards to make us happy/welcomed. That was not the case. Ultimately, we left before eating.

We will NEVER go back to this resturant, and I won't be missing much!

5 Stars: Great Saturday night! (by realfood13)

It was so busy at Ford's last night on what turned out to be a very rainy night. Fords was really crowded trying to accomodate for the rain delay. It was kind of fun huddling in such a cozy spot with groovy music playing and so many nice people. I really enjoyed the Culver City crowd. I waited a few minutes for my reservation but we didn't mind. Then again, any decent restaurant in LA there is a wait. Of course, this is Culver City's only great restaurant. It is actually fun to start off with a cocktail at the bar. I've been to Ford's on weekdays and weekend nights many times....and Fridays and Saturdays are always super busy but soo much fun. This is a restaurant where guests seem to want to stay. Tables were having such a great time...they just didn't want to leave. We all shared each others plates.... Fra'Mani meats, steak tartare, shrimp flatbread, trout, scallops....and for dessert....the chocolate brulee and sugar puff w/ chocolate dipping sauce. Oooooh, mmmmm, ahhhhhh I'm hungry just thinking about it. Another home run! Thanks.

5 Stars: Perfect Refuge (by lesstalky8)

I must start with the dessert....it was delicious. Did you even know there was such a thing as chocolate creme brulee??? Well...I didn't and I am so glad I had my first taste of it at ford's. It was so crispy on top and there was fudge in the bottom....AMAZING! For my main course I had the special - Blue Nose Sea Bass - I am a huge sea bass fan and this sea bass was yummy! And to the beginning of the meal - I had some of the sliced meats and cheese and they were sooooooo good!!! Yum yum yum. It's the kind of place that you just want to check in for the night and drink wine for hours upon hours...listening to the music. I will be back there soon.

3 Stars: Great first experience, poor 2nd... (by VaultComplex)

The first I went I had a great meal. Service was prompt, and the food was great. Not too much, not to little. So then, my parents came in town and I called to make a reservation. They didn't open until 5pm, but the message instructed me to just leave my name, a call back number and the time, number of people, etc. So I did, then 5pm rolls around and I call just to make sure they got it and they didn't. They said my message wasn't on the machine. Well, I'm not a moron and I heard th *beep* to record and I left a very succinct and to the point message. All they could say to me was "sorry." My only choice was to sit outside in the cold an hour earlier than I wanted, or come 2 hours later than I wanted. I wasn't about to do that, so here I am with my parents in from out of town, and it's 5pm on a saturday night with no reservations anywhere. Thanks a bunch! Geez.

5 Stars: If You Give A M0use Cake (by mouse_in_the_house)

Third time back. We arrived 20 minutes early for our Friday night reserv. The sweet girls could only seat us 15 minutes Early! I don't know enough to qualify as a foodie. But I would have to say that my evening was off to an excellent start. Our server introduced himself as Josh. He was not only able to answer my 'obviously-a-newbie' questions, he did so without treating me as though I didn't belong there. That is what I'm beginning to love about this place. I'm new to this world and I'm finding that so many people I work with are more and more very knowledgable about food. I find myself drawn to conversations about food in such a different way. Although I can't really 'hang' with pro foodies, Ford's gives me a comfortable place to grow-up in the food world. I'm an ADHD adult who would, at any other place known to serve high quality food, stand out as abnormally wired. Not at Ford's. And I'm so amazed at the diversity of people!! I saw every group there from age ranges adult teen through to 'Not too Old to Rock & Roll'. Ok, enough with the great atmosphere. On to the FOOD. Josh said the Chef that night was John. We ordered the Flattened Chicken w/ Lemon Confit ,Mr. Ford's own version of Succatash, and Mashed potatoes. I've heard Mr. Ford's Wired Home Chef Podcast so I had a clue as to how the dish should be and taste. John did right by Ford. It was great. Chicken was moist while the skin was crisp. the succatash with sweet corn, fennel bulb, black-eyed peas, baby spinach, and lemon confit was what I expected.YMM(It wasn't too long ago I wouldn't even let my vegitables touch each other.) Josh helped me choise a white pinot. I believe it was a gregio. I felt very comfortable sharing my experiences with my friend, physical re-enactment and all. Can't imagine being able to sit at a table in any other place while enjoying things I remembered without a single person even noticing anything. It's a be yourself kind of place. Intellegent people enjoying intellegent food.

5 Stars: Let me be the first to tell you (by londonpubowner)

I have been to both of your countries highly touted Gastro Pubs and I must commend those involved for pulling them off so well. The Spotted Pig is a wonderful version in New York and is a little more traditional but I think Ford's has really captured the essence of what a Gastro Pub should be. It is centered in the midst of a little city. It has the feel of a real local and the food is creative and well prepared. I think we could use a Ford's and a Spotted Pig in London.

5 Stars: Really Great Night at the Filling Station (by willwee222)

I went on line to see what Gastro Pub was and what I found was a that is a concept with a great deal of diversity. I found out that it really is a concept that means you are going to get a neighborhood restaurant rooted in pub sensibilities and serves better quality food and better service. Ford's seems to be exactly what they call a Gastro Pub overseas. I have gone in a few time and have always had a great experience. It is one of my favs already.

5 Stars: Memorable experience (by accesstoelegance)

Last night I ate at FFS with my family. We had a blast and the food was amazing. When my wife and I were looking for a place to eat near Culver City, we stumbbled across Fords. The mixed reviews on citysearch made us so curious about the place. Boy I'm glad we didn't listen to the negative reviews because last night might have been one of the best meals of my life. We had a pork porterhouse that was unbelievable. He had just got some fresh charcuterie from Paul Bertoli which were out of this world. And, he also had some speck from Italy which I can't seem to get off my mind. I looked up the track record of some of the negative comments...and doesn't seem like they ever find restaurants they enjoy. In fact, it seems like they use citysearch as a tool to vent through. The thing I like about FFS is that although they have to deal with shmucks like that, they haven't given up on their ideal of being a great neighborhood restaurant. It cares about what its feeding its customers and doesnt try to shove inferior cheap ingredients down your throat charge you less for it and wonder why you havent tasted good food like you do at Fords. Oh and by the way, I had great service. It was busy and the tables were tight but it was fun and the place was full of energy. Great meal!

2 Stars: 4 problems in one lunch visit (by jscrapple)

I work near ford's filling station, so I finally tried it out for lunch, after hearing a lot of hype. Me and my friend came early on a relatively cold day, and the place was nearly empty inside. They would not give us a normal table inside even though there were literally a dozen open, and they sat us at a high-top table near the door. I asked them to close the door because of the freezing wind, and the hostess said OK... then it never happened. literally 20 minutes later the manager comes up to me and says that they can't close the door because people will think they are closed (never mind that there were people eating out in front at this point, so how could they be closed?). No apology, no offer to move us away from the door... that was it.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which had no side dish listed on the menu, so I didn't think about it. It came out and it had some very watery, gross baked beans on the side, which I would have substituted for something else had I known about them. Then, a waitress gave me attitude about asking for a menu to check if a side dish was listed, and when I mentioned the baked beans problem, she just said "oh". I guess that is the response to any problem at Ford's - "oh, that's too bad. see ya.".

The pulled pork sandwich was OK - about average... no kick to it, no spice, just kind of bland, and it was roughly $16.

I will never be going back here unless I am forced to. If the service had been better, I would have given the food another try.

5 Stars: rockin' manager and tasty apps for the table! (by cocono5baby)

there is a group of us foodies who go to smallish restaurants and order lots to share among us all. Ford's is our kind of place! we've sampled their fare several times and the pizzas, polenta, fish & chips, and a steak always make us happy. and there's a manager dude (Nate?) who's, like, always there. he's funny as hell and keeps the place running smoothly even when they're crazy busy nights.
3 Stars: Ok food- terrible service (by smooph)

I went here with great expectations, but was sorely disappointed. It seemed like the waitstaff on the whole didn't know what they were doing, the bartender where we waited for our seats didn't seem to want to make me a mojito (I needed something refreshing it was SO HOT in there, do they not believe in air conditioning???) and there was one woman (the manager?) who was terribly rude, talking about other employees loud enough for patrons to hear. The food was ok- the polenta cake was pretty good and my freind really enjoyed the Kobe beef cheeks, but I have had better food elsewhere for less money and less abuse. Also... the way the restaurant is arranged is ridiculous, haphazard table placement really doesn't create a flow at all. I felt like I was in danger of having a busser or waiter fall on top of me at any moment. I won't be returning.

We all shared a few apps (the beef tartar was wonderful and I couldn't stop drinking the flavorful broth from the mussels).
3 Stars: Unfortunately, not what I was expecting..... (by micky20102005)

Well according to the previous reviews, I guess it depends on what day you arrive at the restaurant. I waited 15 minutes at my table before the server arrived. I was waiting for a friend and didn't realize that it was too early [5:15 p.m.] to get a glass of wine at the table while I waited, nor did the hostess tell me that I should wait at the bar if I wanted something to drink. So I sat at my table waiting for anyone to stop by, even as the bus boys kept passing by. I finally stopped one of them and asked about obtaining a glass of water. I requested it again, but no water was brought to the table. I requested they send the server, but I guess they didn't understand me. By the time the server arrived I was a bit annoyed and when I told her how long I was sitting there. She said she was sorry and explained that if I wanted something to drink I needed to sit at the bar, well I wish the hostess would have told me that because I had already told her I was early and that my friend would not be there for 20 minutes or so. The bus boys must have all been new because they kept coming to remove our plates even though we had just begun our meal. Our bread plates were removed before the appetizer was served. The salad was tasty, but not for the price. We ordered the trout which was cooked perfectly, but the sauce was very salty. I had had lunch there the prior week [ the fish and chips was very good] which was very good but not the nicest place I have been for the price. Overall nice restaurant, but the wait staff was quite cocky and for the price I would probably not return.

4 Stars: food is good, service bad (by pinays)

made reservations but the wait to get seated was at least 20 minutes. then, the wait staff took a while to get our order. but once we got the order, the food was great (i had the flat bread/pizza). when we complained about the really slow service, the server gave us free dessert on the house. i thought that was nice. if i go back, i would make sure i am not hungry so i won't be upset if i am not seated promptly.

5 Stars: Best SERVICE (by bis2ren)

My boyfriend and I have finally found a place that cares about making our dining experience pleasurable. Not only is the staff accomidating and nice, but the management is very supportive too. The food is quality and the wine selection rocks. One place I found in town that has a good French Rose. It is the one restaurant my boyfriend will hear me ask to go to often, because I crave the fish and chips. Thanks Fords ;)

4 Stars: Some things never change... (by tillmanpat)

I've been going to Ford's Filling Station since they opened earlier this year and the one thing that has stayed the same is the bar staff. It appears there is a revolving door of both managers and hostess staff. Everytime I go, there is a new face at the door (host or manager) and I have to re-introduce myself and then head to the bar for a cocktail until my table is ready. It's nice to see the same faces behind the bar. Now when I got to Ford's (business or casual) I ALWAYS belly up to the bar where I know Tom and Steve will always have great suggestions, remember my name and pair great (affordable) wines with my meal. Hey Chef, while you go through your mgt. growing pains, please keep the bar staff intact.

5 Stars: Fun lively delicious restaurant (by emberetta)

I visited this place because my friends kept raving on about it. And it really is!! I can't wait to return because while it is delicious restaurant food - it is the closest to the best home cooked food I can remember! I love it - my favorite place in Los Angeles. I love the fact that the Chef is so friendly and knowledgable! He greets every table with sincere interest in their experience. THis is a place for people who enjoy great food and atmosphere! So, if you don't know how to enjoy the good things in life, then this is not the place.

1 Stars: Bring plenty of cash and be prepared to wait! (by mrmateo)

Like many of the posts below, we made a reservation Saturday evening and waited 30 minutes over our scheduled time! I will say the host was extremely nice and the servers were pleasant. I am conflicted on the overall ambiance. On one hand, its trendy and popular with a beautiful overall look. On the other hand, it is extremely crowded, tight and loud. If you want elbowroom, this is not the place for you. There is no place to wait and not enough square feet to adequately accommodate all that is happening. I ordered what seemed to be the most normal thing on the menu, which was a cheeseburger. The meat tasted like it had been drenched in pepper. (It was quite possibly the worst burger I have ever eaten.) My wife ordered the pork porterhouse, which was small, cold and very fatty. With two soft drinks, a burger and what basically was a pork chop, we spent $65! I cant help but to think that what is keeping this place open is its good location coupled with the famous name. Otherwise, this place is a waste of money.

2 Stars: Disappointed! Expect long waits and sloooow service! (by tinkerthinker)

After reading a lot of rave reviews (not just here), I met girlfriends there expecting a great meal and dining experience. I was sadly disappointed.

I had made reservations because having driven by this place often, I knew it gets crowded even on weeknights. Our reservation was for 6:30 on a Tuesday. We were not seated until almost 7:30!! Normally I would have just left, but my girlfriends were just as eager as I was to try this place. Well, that was just a precursor of things to come.

The service was soooo slow, and we had to make most of our requests at least twice. Every step of the meal was painstakingly delayed. Empty plates sat at our table for, what seemed, hours, before they were cleared and we stared at the blank table for just as long before the next dish arrived. Although I did notice that a certain group of diners were given extra attention and prompt service (blech). By the time we got through dessert, it was 10pm. And we are by no means slow eaters.

We had the cheese plate, scallops, skirt steak, and dessert. I thought the portions were small for the price. Amongst the items we ordered, the scallops were the only dish that really "stood out", but there were only 3 on the plate, so it could not be relished all that much.

For 3 of us the bill came to almost $100. For that, I expect at least excellent service.

I think most of the "hype" about this restaurant is because Ben Ford is Harrison's Ford's son, and there's always the 'chance' that he & Calista could be spotted there.

I don't consider myself a foodie but I've been to a ton of restaurants on the Westside. I know a good meal and know good service. Unfortunately, any merit the food has here, it was sorely outshadowed by the poor service.

3 Stars: This place is just "OK" .. and we really wanted to like it (by schmazda)

My wife and I went here for dinner on Saturday night. We really wanted to like it, its close to us and we were looking for great food in a cool environment. The food is tasty and the atmosphere is fun, but unfortunately there is nothing special about it. for $100 between the 2 of us including drinks, I know of a dozen other places we would have rather gone.

DOn't get me wrong, I have no specific complaint. We wanted to be "wow'ed" and we weren't.

5 Stars: Best Meal I've Had In A Looooong Time (by new2laca)

I love this restaurant- because it made me fall in love with food again. Seriously, I have been so disappointed by so many restaurant experiences in the last few years- even stopped craving certain meals at my then favorite restaurants. But Ford's has fixed it! I had the scallops and they were TO DIE FOR...never had scallops so good- I want some right now. My boyfriend had the burger with blue cheese and he hates blue cheese- but somehow LOVED the burger. This chef is great. Next time...because there will be a next time...I want to go to the chef and thank him!! I highly recommend this restaurant and I hope you have a good a time as I did.

5 Stars: What a great surprise (by foodaphile)

Okay, so I call myself a foodie. But when I go out to a casual place I tend to cut it a little slack because you can't always get a "foodie" experience when you're not paying an arm and a leg...So when I went to Ford's I just had no idea things could be so good. The cheese plate I ordered came out and wow'd me. The cheese was a perfect temperature and had figs and dried fruit to pair up with each one. When I got seated at my cute "the restaurant is tonight's entertainment" seat, I was bowled over by the gorgeous beef cheeks and my friend's perfectly executed scallops. And the wine pairing? Perfect as well. Who knew you could have a cool "Tom Waits" song playing in a dimly lit room, with amazing food and great prices? I certainly didn't. But I'm definitely coming back soon. I loved it!

4 Stars: Don't judge the place by its name. (by ag69123)

I went there with a small group of friends, one of whom suggested the place. I did not expect anything, but after hearing the name "blah blah filling station" I thought to my self: a dinner. What a nice surprise it was to enter a restaurant with a nice street patio, a stocked bar, and and when I saw the menu I almost fell off the chair.

True, my expectation were extremely low, but this place is nevertheless great.

Nice bar. Had a glass of Spanish Grenache, was server in a real wine glass (would be a plus it the glass was crystal), and was not overcharged for it.

Service is nice but very kick-back. Waitstaff folds the napkins when someone leaves the table, which is a big plus. On the other hand, the waiter was less then knowledgeable about the dish ingredients.

Food is great, and qualifies to be called gourmet. Had beef cheeks served with pasta in light trufle sauce, thish dish is amazing. Meat was of premium quality, tender, well prepared, and all ingredients of the dish complemented each other. A must try at this place. A few other things we tried were good, but nothing too special compared to other restaurants in LA.

Price is very reasonable for the quality.

The drawbacks are the lousy name of the restaurant, it got extremely crowded with no waiting area, food arrived a little bit slow, and less than knowledgeable staff.

In short, a great place in Culver City downtown area, a good value considering quality of food and price.

4 Stars: Inconsistent (by gutenappetit)

I went to this place about a week after it first opened and I was really blown away. I got the duck confit flatbread and it was simply exquisite! However, I have been there a few times since and I have to say that it has never been consistent. The duck flatbread has never come close to the perfection of the first one I had. I agree that the service is spotty, but I also have noticed that they are WAY understaffed at lunch. There is also something about an entire page of the menu being dedicated to cold cuts and cheese that just annoys me. I enjoy the occasional after dinner cheese plate as much as the next gal, but it just doesn't interest me that much. Seems like something that a snobby culinary school grad would appreciate more than the average diner. This place perplexes me to some degree. I have had a few dishes at Ford's that were unbelievable, but I have also sent back just as many. There is obviously some real talent in the kitchen, but there are also clearly some real duds back there too. I think this place could be a great restaurant if they could just work out their kinks.

3 Stars: Sea Bass stuffed with mashed potatoes (by susan32)

I went here with a girlfriend and we ordered the sea bass special, which our waitress claimed was large enough for two people to split. She was right, seeing as they filled the inside of the fish with mashed potatoes. (Not in the description.) It's a good thing we got a salad beforehand (which our busboy cleared before we were finished eating it...) That brings up another point: the service was worse than I expected. Our waitress, while friendly enough - wasn't very attentive. In addition to our food being cleared before we were done, she also rushed us out before we had a chance to tell her we'd like to split the bill... The food seemed overpriced for nothing special.

1 Stars: Overpriced and bad service (by freebird90049)

I've eaten lunch at this place twice now (second time b/c the place we actually wanted to try was closed), and each time I've noticed that the service is bad, it takes too long to get your food, and it is totally overpriced. If you're going to charge people $14 for a hamburger (during lunchtime!), or $16 for chicken, you should at least have excellent service. Instead, it takes forever, they give you no bread while you wait (yet another perk you should have if you're going to charge so much), and the servers aren't all that skilled or even polite. One server dropped a full pitcher of water right next to our table and the water began seeping into the rug under our feet, but she didn't apologize or say a word to us. It's too bad about the service, because the food (once you finally get it) is decent and the decor inside is cool. However, I've left each time feeling ripped off.

2 Stars: Shame on the staff (by dmalek)

Had a reservation for 8:45pm, and arrived right on time. Upon arriving, was told that they were behind and that there would be a 15 minute wait. 30 minutes later there was still no table and after asking the hostess if it would be much longer she said she didn't know and turned her back. A finer establishment would have offered something for our trouble (i.e. an appetizer on the house) but the host staff acted as if we should have expected a half hour wait even though we had reservations. We ended up leaving as it was getting close to 9:30 and didn't want to eat that late. Dissapointment.

3 Stars: Overpriced for the experience (by uclagirl)

The fried clams were good, the wine was the best I've ever had, and the strawberry shortcake was wonderful. However, the entree was a let-down. The flat-iron steak was well-prepared and tender, but the spinach souffle was a bit bland. My friend's porterhouse turned out to be pork (it says so on the menu, but both of us missed it--when else is porterhouse anything but beef?). On top of that, the service was negligent, which it really shouldn't be at these prices. With wine, a split appetizer, entrees, and desserts, we each spent a little over $60. At $45-50 each, the price would have been right (although I still would have considered the service to be slack). Ford's Filling Station is good, but it's not great, and I'll go elsewhere to get my money's worth out of the dining experience.

Overall, had a good experience. Was treated for a birthday dinner by a friend-in-the-know. And was impressed with the fact that we were promptly seated at the time of our reservation, eventhough the place was JUMPIN'! Lots of people, hip atmostphere, but not too sceney. Everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves. Food was good; patio was nice and probably not as loud as the inside. It is definately a meat place. We both enjoyed our hamburgers. Though my burger had some "marbling" that I did not enjoy. Everything was great, up until the end when we tried to linger a bit to chat and were given the boot. I can't blame them because they were busy, but it really put a damper on an otherwise very enjoyable meal. I'll go again, and be sure to have plans for after.

5 Stars: Lives up to the hype (by triplejjj)

For weeks, I walked by this place attempting to get a same-day reservation. No luck. When I finally got it, it was so worth it. Prompt, unpretenious service. Amazing oysters with spinach. Also recommend the steaks.

5 Stars: Comfort-Food Perfection (by tj1972)

This restaurant has been hyped so much that I was wary about whether it could meet my expectations. Everything was exceptional from the moment we walked in. We had reservations and were seated promptly. The butter leaf salad and the oyster appetizers were delicious. The crispy chicken was a piece of comfort-food heaven. We finished our meal with the Strawberry Shortcake which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We liked it so much we are going back this weekend.

5 Stars: Simply Devine (by jrather)

I visited this place because my daughter told me it was great. And it really is - so I keep going back! I have been several times and had delicious oysters (rockefeller type), a meat platter with yummy cheese, steak tartar, crispy flattened chicken, incredible polenta, a beautiful full flavored tomato salad with a cheese I had never had before (boratta - sooo incredible), and tried all three desserts! I can't wait to return because while it is delicious restaurant food - it is the closest to the best home cooked food I can remember! I love it - my favorite place in Los Angeles - and fyi - the service is perfect - everyone is so nice. I love the fact that Chef Ben Ford is so friendly! He greets every table with sincere interest in their experience. Maybe thats why they are so popular.

2 Stars: Avoid if you want to have a conversation (by stephenca67)

After hearing some good things about Ford's, I went to check it out with a friend. The restaurant was much more expensive than I thought it would be and the food was simply "okay." I had the scallops and the sides and fish were good but not memorable. The cheese flatbread was tasty, though, and the service was attentive. The biggest problem was that it was so crowded and so loud that I had to strain to hear my friend talk. All and all, with all the great restaurants in L.A., I wouldn't rush back anytime soon.

Took a chance on a second visit - the first was very disappointing - and LOVED it!! The hostess was new, polite and lovely. The food was excellent, the ambiance amazing and Ford's whole team were 100% on top of things. I think they just needed time to settle into this new space. Some celeb sightings which was fun for our out of town guests. Just make sure you make reservations well in advance. Thanks to Ben for coming to Culver City and lighting a spark under the restaurant industry here!

I love Ford's Filling Station! My friends and I go there at least a couple nights a week because the environment is awesome and the food is sooooo good so its really worth it. It's a great dining experience and it doesn't break my bank. The music playing is always fun and there are so many fun people in there everytime I go. There's a special culture in this place that many LA restaurants don't offer. If you go you must get a drink from the bar because the bartenders are the best of the best and so friendly. This restaurant is a must.

5 Stars: Rustic and Rockin' (by greenmonstergames)

My Foodie friends and I dug all the inventive, earthy eats with organic, seasonal surprises ... (Brook Trout, flatbread pizzas, Ipswich Clams!) we also find that the wines are fine and the usual LA restaurant whines are few and far between at Ford's... the main room is cozy and communal with its exposed brick and wood-burning oven backdrop and the covered patio can be a catbird seat for the street-scene and here-comes-summer breezes... This place is a definite oasis for us locals and the vibe can vary from laid-back to boisterous depending on when you book...and definitely call for a reservation...the up-for-grab bar seats and bar tables go fast...as do the tables outside. Bonus: what's in the musical mix (From The Band to Beck and everything in between)

5 Stars: Hard to figure out some of these reviews (by jlhii)

This is really exceptional food. I recently attended a large dinner party at Ford's and everyone had nothing but great things to say about what they ordered. The beef cheeks, which I believe is the name of the dish I had, was unbelievable. There are a handful of places to get great food in LA and this is one of them. I suggest giving it a try.

We loved Ford's filling station.

This was our first time dining there. We'd read the reviews in the LA Times and brought the inlaws from out of town.

All four of us raved about the meals. The flatbread was delicious. Wine list cozy, but sophisticated. Between two trouts, a polenta, and the scallops--we couldn't decide what won out.

Highly recommend.

5 Stars: Ford's more than exceeded my wildest expectations (by gabrielmichaels)

I'm a pretty harsh critic when it comes to recommending a restaurant and have never written a review before. However, I felt inspired by Ford's Filling Station and have to inform you about this fantastic eatery. A friend invited me for dinner and I couldn't have been any more blown away. The food was out of this world! My taste buds were dancing like the Cubs just won the world series. They have an extremely comfortable ambiance, imaginitive lighting, temendous service...I don't think a single detail was overlooked in the conception and execution of this restaurant. There was an eclectic mix of multi-cultural backgrounds enjoying the restaurant and I could tell that every person felt completely at home. I take my hat of to you Mr. Ford. PLEASE OPEN A RESTAURANT IN HOLLYWOOD!

5 Stars: Refreshing addition to LA Dining (by roundrobin_8)

I have now been to Ford's Filling Station a handful of times and I can say without question that each time it get's better and better. This warm, cosy environment is exactly the kind of place LA needed for friends to gather for casual, classy and delicious meals in a warm but yet bustling dining room. The Kobe beef cheeks are not to be missed. They literally melt in your mouth (no knife necessary!). The charcuterie offerings are a welcome touch that is rarely seen in similar restaurants. Don't skip dessert - i've had a least three of them and they are all delectible. We needed a place like this in Los Angeles and I am so happy to have found Ford's Filling Station.

5 Stars: MY favorite spot in LA (by texaseater)

Forget about what you know about culver city. Something is happening, and I believe it all starts here at Ford's. I have gone now four times and am in love. I liken the hotspot's appeal to the oriental rugs on the floor. There is great taste everywhere but it doesn't call attention to itself. The food is accesible as is the staff. Its nice to get service with no attitude in this town. Perfect vibe. Great wine list- short but potent.

After waiting over a year for Ford's to open walking distance to my house I was very disapointed after my initial visit. I was hoping for a neighborhood bar/cafe to get a bite to eat that was both good & affordable. This place is neither.

But I can tell you this place is sooooooo good now. Everything and I mean everything was so full of flavor. The ingredients the chef uses are obviously of the best quality because there is such a difference in the way the food tastes. I was there both times with large parties and although the reviews were mixed on the first go, the second meal got a unanamous applause for my table of friends. can't wait to get back.

5 Stars: Hip, delicious, unpretentious LA restaurant (by austinfoodie13)

For the past three months, I heard by word of mouth that Ford's Filling Station is one of the best vibes - food, ambiance, music - LA has to offer. After hearing everyone rave on about it, I decided to make a reservation. When I went to citysearch to get the number, I surprisingly read many negative reviews. I decided to go and make my own opinion on the place. And, IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE! From the moment I walked in, I felt at home. Everyone was full of energy. Aside from the great atmosphere it provides, the food is out of this world. Mmmm, I can't stop thinking about the spinach oysters, grilled scallops, steak tartare (my fav!) and the beef cheeks...OMG, amazing...all you need is a spoon its so tender. Everyone who likes good food, atmosphere and music should try Ford's.

2 Stars: I waited so long for THIS (by rgl124)

I had been waiting along time for this restaurant to open. Based on Ben Ford's previous establishment, I had no doubts this would be excellent. Although I kept reading many poor reviews, I was still hopeful. After much deliberation, my friend and I decided on 3 dishes to share. But turned out they were out of 2 of them, and not much else appealed to us (not the most interesting menu). We had: Steak tartar (had better), Chicken entree (plain awful...I never order chicken but the server said it was very good), and we had the broccolini side which was the only decent thing....I didn't go out to dinner for a side of vegetables. Oh well. If you go, just don't have high expectations, and perhaps then you won't be disappointed.

1 Stars: The Worst Mother's Day Ever (by bmed)

The hostess was extremely rude. She greeted me by saying I would have to order right away, though the table was not ready, because they were closing the kitchen. She said Open Table's system was the problem. Then she wanted us to sit outside, though there were tables inside. They had very little food, though this had not been advertised. No normal entrees. They were not respectful, and we finally left without ordering. I was so disappointed and it ruined the day.

3 Stars: Disappointing (by t_roch)

I walked in really wanting to like this restaurant, but that feeling went away sometime during the forty minute wait we had for our table past our reservation time. I know why Ford's is so busy - they're the only game in town for - no other restaurant is even open in downtown Culver City after 10pm on a FRIDAY!

We were underwhelmed with the menu offerings and portions. I had the fish and chips, which came with, get this, TWO (2) "potato wedges" - barely bigger than a thick French fry. I asked our waitress (who was very good) if this was a mistake, and she said no, that's how Ben makes it and that's everyone's reaction (surprise over 2 fries) with fish and chips. The batter was very soggy, too. The restaurant is extremely loud as well. Won't be back. Should last a few months longer than Chadwick.

5 Stars: My favorite lunch spot! (by marinagirl78)

I make a habit of hanging at Ford's Filling Station every chance I get. I love it as a lunch spot during the work week. their shrimp flatbread is terrific, as is the vibe, the service and even the prices. I've never had anything disappointing in my 10+ visits. Great after work too, if you like relaxed unpretentious cool spots! Love it, love it and the chef's easy on the eyes too:)

2 Stars: Culver City's Worse. (by sammysamadi)

I just don't know what the owner is thinking.
Mr Ford is trying to create a Hip? Trendy? Cool? All-American? Causal? What the????
This restuarant is trying to create everything or be everything!!!

One statement, your "Fusion" is really "Confusing" in this restaurant!!!
That's why all the waiter are young, inexperience and confuse when they try to serve.
Maybe it's not their fault, maybe it's their stupid jobs!!!

5 Stars: a place for every occasion (by beatricesantell)

I have been to this place nearly once a week since it opened, taken out of town guests, my party friends and even my husband on his birthday for a romantic dinner. Every time i have had amazing food the meat and cheese platters are amazing for sharing, as was the trout salad. I have never liked Sweet breads Before but the are amazing,as is the Crispy chicken. It can get very busy on weekends and you can be waiting a bit, but what popular restaurant in LA does not make you wait! the service is good and friendly, you have to remember this is a Gastro pub, not Fine dinning. so, you can tear it up with your friends and have a great time (wine list is reasonable) and or be romantic. looking forward till the it gets warmer so we can sit on the great Patio.

5 Stars: Cool Chef (by aliceb)

Besides the good food- and it was good- my favorite part was when the chef came to my table just to ask me and my friends how our meal was and if we were having a good time. He's done this 2 of the times I've been there, which impresses me. We were really having a great time already...but it really was even better when he came out! Icing on the cake! The service has also really improved since the first time I went

3 Stars: Unfulfilled at Ford's Filling Station! (by kwizinekutie)

From the name of the restaurant we thought we would receive decent-sized portions (not that we were looking to put on the feed bag, but we weren't on the Zone either!) You will be told "how it works" by your server. You will be encouraged to order many dishes, all pricey for what you get. I suggest you eat somewhere else and just go there to hang at the bar. For the moment it feels like a rip-off. Maybe they should consider changin the name of the place so people won't be mislead. Oh, and it's very, very loud. Not a good place for a date, but if you've got good vocal chords, dig in. Or not.

We arrived on time for a 7:00 reservation, got seated 30 minutes later. At 8:05 our drinks arrived. It was a birthday celebration where I picked the restaurant and I could not enjoy my meal, I was too upset by the bad service. There are too many really good restaurants in LA to ever return to Ford's Filling Station. They ran out of wine glasses and,to top things off, did not remember the candle in the dessert.

We had a reservation for 6 people that was made 6 weeks in advance. We were seated 1 hour after our reservation time. Once sat we had horrible service. They ran out of wine glasses, so our wine was served in cocktail glasses. We were even given a warm cocktail glass for chardonay. The food does not warrant another visit to this restaurant. TOO MANY GOOD RESTAURANTS IN LA TO WASTE MONEY AND TIME HERE!!!!!

I had the pleasure of dining at the gastropub-style restaurant. This is definitely a worthy addition to the blossoming Culver City restaurant scene. The informal and loose vibe coupled with an outstanding choice of music is just what the doctor ordered. I've been to FFS 5 times and each time it gets better.
4 Stars: Casual Upscale Eatery Much Needed in Culver City (by kilroyrogers)

Well, this part of town is always underserved by high quality, good service restaurants.
Luckily, Ford's Filling Station was a delight. Gloria, the hostperson, was amiable, took us right to our table in the cozy inside dining room, and everything we ordered was tasty. We remember Ben from his previous restaurant in Bev Hills and this was also quite a culinary treat. Highly recommended!

1 Stars: Nothing Special (by tastyfoodie)

I had read some of the negative reviews on this site about Ford's Filling Station, but I thought what the heck, I'll make my own judgement. As it turns out, the negative reviews are right on the money. The atmosphere of this restaurant is decent, but it is quite small. My first impression of the food was bad when I bit into a dry and uninspired breadstick. My date ordered the burger, which is good if you like Blue Cheese (it was smoothered in it). I had the Flattened Chicken, which was ok, but nothing to write home about. My favorite part was the Blue Margatini cocktail. There's no need to check this place out, or for me to go back. It was pretty boring and there are so many other interesting and good places to check out.

2 Stars: Grrrrrrr-istle (by mintycool)

Friend and I had lunch there today. We both ordered the pub burger. My friend had to repeatedly pull rubbery pellets out of her mouth and put them on her plate. I got two definitely gristly bites. I was starved and just wolfed. She gave up. When server came at end of meal my friend pointed it out and the server was very nice and NOT surprised she said. She said she wanted to take it back to the kitchen. She took it off the check even tho we said we ate most of it. She insisted. Said they need to buy better meat. That it's the chuck they use. She said she would never eat the burger. We were like, um, thanks.....So, I don't think I'll be back. Cool vibe. But cheap meat for a $14 burger, c'mon.

4 Stars: Very Enjoyable (by lisastitch)

I was not too excited about going to lunch at this place after reading some of the reviews, but I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience there. The food was fantastic - my friend and I had the four cheese flatbread, iceberg wedge salad, I had the pub burger (great meat, great bun, great french fries and onion rings on the side!), my friend had the fish & chips, and we split the flourless chocolate torte for dessert (could've done without the kumquats on it though). The hostess and staff were very very nice. The waitress went along with all of my friend's silly jokes, and the hostess insisted on opening the door for us as we were leaving. Reminded me a lot of Hal's in Venice, in both ambience and food.

1 Stars: quite a disappointment (by cheesemonger)

I wanted to like this place... the decor seemed nice (nice rug... but the tables are crammed together with uncomfortable hard chairs!) The menus sounded great. The staff is inexperienced (after showing a grungy server some crusty silverware, she heaved a sigh and grabbed a replacement off the next table) and after waiting almost 45" for the Kobe roast(our earnest waiter said it was pre-roasted, but didn't ask us how well we wanted it cooked) it came out almost moo-ing and tendony, even after sending it back for further cooking. BTW, they have the most ridiculous steak knives. The potatoes lyonnaise with fennel would have been tasty if the potatoes were cooked to tenderness. The grilled asparagus and the brussel sprouts were very good. Oh well. I've enjoyed beef more at 1/10th the price, but perhaps they'll iron out the wrinkles. For now, it's all hype.

3 Stars: Not all that (by charlzm)

Our party of four was seated promptly - right next to kitchen (other tables were available). The waitress was not knowledgable about the beer choices, which should have been more varied and uncommon for a "gastro pub". We ordered the Pub Burger (very good, but not as good as The Office Burger form Father's Office), fish and chips (oily, not very flavorful), a 4-cheese flatbread (artisan pizza - it was acceptable) and the crispy pressed chicken (perfectly fine). The lemonade was reported as tasty but the beers (Guinness, Pyramid hefe, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Firestone Double Barrel) were off in their aroma and flavor. Soapy - possibly due to the pint glasses.

Overall - perfectly okay food and ambience undermined by the high prices. Four for dinner (including 5 beers among the party and an appetizer) was well over $100.00. It's just not a good value.

3 Stars: Not what I expected (by jodiner)

Went Sat. night. Grumpy hostess. We sat at the bar waiting for our table. Great bar tender, Michael, who knew his booze. We ordered clams at the bar, which turned up pretty quickly, but were not cleaned of sand (or whatever the crunchy substance was). When we were seated, on time, by no-personality hostess, we were in a tented addition to the restaurant. It was cold, noisy and you really felt as though you weren't part of the restaurant. There was a heater on the ceiling that blew hot into our faces the whole time. The main course was good, I had the trout. My husband's steak was tough and pretty horrid. He didn't finish it. We paid and went back to the bar. Ordered desert - chocolate, flourless cake - that was great - however, had some horrid apricot syrup on it. Won't go again unless it gets better.

1 Stars: Your Paying for the Name, Not the Food (by benaderet)

I tried this place out a few days ago with a co-worker and found it not at all worth the money. It is one of those places where you pay for the name, not the food. I am not into places like that, nor is my wallet. Your jaw will hit the floor when you see the prices and you'll be even more disappointed once you eat the food. The problem is that this type of eatery doesn't belong in Culver City, along a row of diners and spots for people who want to grab a quick bite during a lunch hour. From what I see, it appeals only to a handful of Sony Pictures executives and not the average Joe. Also, the waiters and waitresses have tremendous attitude. A bit too snooty for service workers.

2 Stars: Professionals NEEDED (by ccondren)

I tried this restaurant with five friends last Friday and it was a comedy of errors. Despite our late reservation (9pm) and the fact that I arrived early and checked in at 8:40, our party wasn't seated until 9:45. We ordered drinks and appetizers and it took 1hr from the time our appetizers were cleared for the entrees to arrive.

We were comped dessert and this took another 45 minutes and the check then took 15 minutes more to arrive. Too little to show for a 3hr dinner.

My recommendation - give them a few months to work out their reservation and service issues, then give them a try (if they're still around by then). The chef's dad (Harrison Ford) does well enough so maybe he will underwrite it until then.

My husband and I ate lunch at this restaurant. I ordered the Polenta Cake and I enjoyed very much. I don't mind small portion of food but could serve bread. If you pay $20 for lunch, don't you deserve to have some bread? My husband ordered the Crispy Chicken and it was too dry. Most servers at the restaurant seemed inexperienced. They rather chit chat each other than paying attention to their custormers. Even though our server wasn't busy at all, all of our foods were served by a busser.

4 Stars: Great Addition To Culver City (by adelly)

This place really helps boost the emerging Culver City restaurant scene. Had dinner last Saturday with my hubby and the place was just packed at 730pm. Nice decor, excellent service, but what we had wasn't something we'd remember (I had fish & chips and he had the Pub Burger). The drinks were good though. Maybe the other items on the menu were better? Still worth visiting, especially since Harrison Ford (chef's dad) & Calista Flockhart make regular appearances (they were there that night!). Avg. bill per person around $40 (entree, alcoholic bev & 1/2 dessert + tax and tip).

I was really looking forward to eating at this new hip restaurant. However, it really did not live up to the hype. The service was terrible (we waited over 20 minutes for our drinks), the silverware was filthy (for all three of us), and the fish and chips were nothing but grease. All that, and it was $20 per person for lunch. To be fair, my other lunchmates were just as disappointed with the service, etc., but they were impressed with their burgers.

The food we had was good, but there should be no
excuse for running out of food at 7:30 pm on a Thursday.

Our server recommended the Kobe Beef, which my
friend ordered. Only to be told that they had run out. So she ordered the Crab salad -- except they were out of that too. She settled for an appetizer that was disappointing.

The ambience is pleasant, but the tables are too close together. My
friend was back to back with a man at another table. Our server, who obviously lacked
experience, decided that instead of going around the table, she would cut between the two. For a brief yet unbearable
moment, my friend's shoulder became the resting spot for the server's rear end as she squeezed between the two seats.

It's another restaurant to just try once. There are too many great
restaurants in LA to go back.

2 Stars: Very disappointed in the experience (by Robertqk)

There is no doubt that Ford's Filling Station has the potential to be a great new Culver City spot, but based on my first visit, I probably won't ever give it the second chance. A surprisingly small menu and slow initial service got the evening off to a less than stellar start, but a delicious appetizer (a flat bread with cheese) helped. The dinner took a dive when my wife's chicken was terribly undercooked. The waiter took her dinner, left me with mine and returned with the cooked chicken 10 minutes later (after I'd finished) without so much as an appology. With the type of service expected from an $8 per meal restaurant, I was most upset when I really looked at the final check. The food was definitely overpriced for the quality and the service didn't help.
