EMILY MOTT, she is an amazing stylist at Hue! I was greeted by the lovely staff, offered complementary tea or water, had a free scalp, neck and hand massage, amazing! Emily, listened to what I wanted and executed the cut perfectly! OH! And if you are first time customer at Hue, you get half off your service! I will be going back to Emily?in November!
Others say that this is a non-tipping salon, but I am not sure about that? I scoured their website and it said nothing of the sort, so I did tip her and I bought some product.

This sounded like a great salon. I purchased a groupon to try it out. I'm fairly easy going when it comes to my hair. I figure that this is what a hair dresser does for a living and should be able to help me figure out what looks good one me. I only go a few times a year to get my hair done, so this was going to be a treat.

I told the stylist that I'm the mother of a 2 year old and that we are out the door at 6am so I don't have a lot of time to spend on my hair. She had no imagination. Kept the current style which was fairly long and just added some long layers. I also got partial foils where you could see 1/4" of roots the next day.

Their policy is that if you go back to correct something, you get the same stylist which I didn't want. I didn't like her the first time, why would I want to go back. I went to my mom's stylist and have gotten so many compliments.

As part of the groupon deal, you were also supposed to get a bottle of shampoo (a $10 value). They said that they were out, but I could come back tomorrow. I live in Irvine. I'm not going to drive to HB for a bottle of Shampoo! They could have at least given me the $10 off something in the store. I might have tried their products.

If I have to have my hair done out here, I would go back to Donnia at Gregorie's Day Spa. The last time I had her do my hair, I LOVED IT. She put a lot of thought into what would look good on me and took into consideration that I don't do much maintenance on my hair.

really want to give this salon 5 stars but I cannot. Let me preface my review by saying I have very coarse, natural, African-American kinky hair. When I called to make my appointment I asked for someone skilled with working with this hair type. I wanted a trim and a partial foil, all over color. I just got home from my appointment and am not sure how to feel about what I got. The color looks great but it is also all over my scalp and my hairline. The stylist cut my hair like you would a hedge which is sad since she told me herself she knew how to work with my hair type. She did not part it or anything just started hacking away. I had to tell her to stop because I am sure she planned to keep going. She did not take to much off but I have short strands in the middle of my head.

The salon is clean and nice and 1st time customers get a 50% discount. That being said even with the discount I paid $145 to have someone cut my hair like she was a gardener.

My rating is for all those that share my hair type. Stay away from this place because they do not know how to work with your hair. For everyone else they seemed to be doing a great job on all the ladies around me. Enjoy!!

I have been to this salon now twice, once on "New Talent Tuesday" for color and a cut and another time for a facial...both times the customer service was top notch. The young man that took care of me was working in conjunction with the master colorist and senior stylist so he was not "totally on his own." I read some of the reviews below and believe that some people who have never worked in the service type industry do not understand the need to learn and why assistants are used. I do agree with one of the reviews when they stated that when you go to higher end salons the assistants do a lot of the work. Trust me I am picky about my hair and would not go to just anyone. The salon is easy to get to, located off Beach Blvd & the 405 Fwy. As far as the prices are concerned they are all published and are not a secret. Great selection of Aveda products.

Management needs to take a course in how to run a salon. I waited for ever, the stylist gave me attitude and the manager was a pain! Shame on you Salon Hue. I will never go back again! Not cool. I will make sure to tell all my friends.

Pros: Non to speak of.

Cons: Too expensive and too much attitude.

I'm new to Orange County and my coworker gave me the name or her hair dresser. I'm very picky, sometimes too picky, so of course I was nervous. I looked their pricing up online, yes there are different pricing levels so I made sure to mention to the desk when I made the appointment which level I was most comfortable with. Their menu is very clear on pricing so people who are surprised by pricing must not look at the menu closely enough or don't ask about pricing prior to their service. The front desk staff was very welcoming without overdoing it, I hate when you can tell people are "faking" being nice. They were very warm and friendly, my kind of place. My stylist greeted me and gave me a very thourough consultation. Then one of their assistants gave me a GREAT scalp and shoulder massage and shampoo. I don't get why people on here are bothered by assistants doing things like shampooing and the massages. They are wonderful gals (not sure if there are guys there) who are there to learn help. When you go to a nicer salon, they have assistants and assistants do exactly that, assist. Anyhoo, got a great haircut in a nice amount of time ( I don't have all day to sit around). My stylist infomed me that Hue also had a spa and asked about my spa habits. I don't really have any, but I'd like to. She introduced me to Linda who invited me into the spa for a skin care consulatation for free. She talked to me in terms I understood and helped me understand my skin and it's needs better, and no, it wasn't to talk me into some foo foo product I don't need. I was so comfortable with her I decided to try a 30min facial and a brow wax. Both were great. My brows are amazing, that's a huge thing b/c believe me, my brows are usually a hot mess. I felt like $1,000, 000 leaving. When I checked out there was another gal up there who helped explain the charges for the day, the products that were used on me (not just your typical ok time to pay up conversation) and informed me of the client points system. Free points for pre-booking COOL! I had a nice time there and I WILL be back. Everyone there was welcoming and polite. I loved my stylist but I think I would be comfortable trying out different people. If you haven't gone to Hue, GO. Make your mind up for yourself.

Pros: Helpful Staff, Great Service, Nice Environment

.

Horrible service first of all. Waaaaaaaay over priced. Secondly, do not go here to get waxed. Im afraid they do not know what they are doing (i believe her name was Linda). I went here to get waxed and left with only half of my skin. Needless to say I will never go back. I also have a 10 dollar off coupon and instead of giving me 10 dollars of the less than intelligent front desk girl charged me 10 dollars more.

One can choose from a variety of hairstylists with different levels of expertise that can fit any pocketbook. I use their convenient online booking to take advantage of their discounts. The facials and waxing are done with well trained personnel, but my daughters and I especially like our hairstylist that we found at Aveda.

I am not the "hair done every week " woman. I work outside and my hair shows it. In fact, before my first visit with this salon I had not had a haircut or color for over 2 years. So the prices set me back on my heels, but they range with how experience your stylist. I chose what I felt was the middle range and I chose extremely well.

I was given an appt with Emily Mott. I told her I was looking for a wash and wear cut for my natural curly hair and a color that I could blend the gray through as it grew out because I would not be in every 6 weeks. I am not hard to please but I don't help my stylist with any suggestions. Emily was great she gave me everything I did not know I wanted until she was done. Then you have such personal service. Hand massages, head massages, I could have set in the chair forever.

I left the salon feeling 10 years younger and I think I looked that way also. You may say the salon is high-end but the service is excellent and with the "no tipping" policy I don't know that you are really spending any more that you would anywhere else.

Pros: Excellent Service, great stylist

Cons: I live about 1 hr from salon - but I make the drive anyway

I think the quality of service that one gets from this salon is dependent on who you are. My impression is that "if you look like you have money, you will be treated much better". I didn't get all the services they claimed all customers will get as part of their visit in their website. I tried to make another appointment after my first visit to give this place another chance, and a person named Nicole told me the hairstylist will get back to me for an available appointment and I never heard from them again. Nevertheless, I am now going to another Spa Salon who treats me a lot better than this place.

I heard of this place from a few girlfriends who have had spa treatments there. I think its amazing how nice the staff is! I made my appointment with a pamper me day in mind. The girl at the front was super sweet and so was their manager who I found out later that day that she was an esthetician & was going to do my facial too! Her name is Linda and she made my troubles just go away the minute she had the bowl of warm water to soak my feet in. The music was so relaxing and my facial was amazing! I went on to see Jennifer H. she was very helpful in finding what would work best with me! All the hand massages at the shampoo bowls and the neck and head massage was just a very special treat! I made my next appointment and I am sure to be back as long as they are around! I highly recommend going! Its a wonderful place to visit! Even if it is to just shop in their store. After my very relaxing day, i went shopping around the Bella Terra and had a nice time. This has to be the best salon & spa I have ever been to! Not to mention I love Aveda products, too! Leave your house early! Parking can be a pain.

A friend recommended Hue and hairstylist, Marti. We had both been going to a different salon and were paying $65 for our haircuts. It costs the same at Hue but your cut comes with an aromatherapy scalp and hand/arm massage, that was so nice!! Marti did a cut and color on my hair and did a great job. She was so good at showing me how to blow dry and take care of my hair after and I'm actually able to do it! I had been seeing the same hairstylist for years and I love her so it takes alot to get me to try another stylist. I must say I was very happy with my result!

Her comment hit the nail on the head...an average cut and color is almost $300.00 buck and since the products are all natural they tend to wash out much quicker. And yes the assistants do most of the work from "aromatherapy" on the scalp, forehead and shoulders to rinsing and washing your hair. I don't like the fact that if I'm spending that amount of $$$, I prefer undivided attention and not having the hairdresser run from client to client...it's rude!!!! I have found much better, cheaper salons who provide undivided attention...search and you shall seek

This is a great salon and if you can get in with Deidre, do so! She's fantastic! It's a bit pricey when you start adding the cut, color and other services, but it's worth the extra money to have a cut and color where they don't use harsh chemicals and you don't have that awful chemical smell lingering for weeks! They use great products. I haven't tried the spa services but that's next and will let you know how those fared in my next review!

I've been going to Hue for about 1 1/2 years now and I absolutely love it. I'm rather shocked at some of the negative comments because for the most part, I only have great things to say. I started coming here for Brazilian waxes and Shenelle is wonderful! A Brazilian wax isn't the greatest experience but she's super friendly and very professional. I was interested in getting a new hairstyle and she recommended Jen L. Jen L. is yet another reason why I love this place. She listened to everything I said and helped me make the right decision in regards to a hairstyle that would fit me. The no tipping policy pretty much balances out the "high price" that you pay. From the foot soaks to head/neck/shoulder massages, you honestly get your moneys worth. I do remember when I first started going they were a bit unorganized, then again, this salon is only 2 years young. Now more experienced and fully staffed, I can almost guarantee you'll be just as satisfied as I am.

What an amazing 2nd time salon experience! The store definitely had a great ambience. Not only I received a haircut from a stylist that greeted me with a big smile, but I also received a head massage, shoulder & neck massage, arm massage, and facial treatment for the same price I paid for my 1st salon experience. If you are looking for a deal and a great customer service, this is a must check out. The store was conveniently located from 405fwy and many different stores where friends and family can hang out while you are getting your hair done. I had a short hair and told my hair stylist that I wish to grow it out; however, I wanted to maintain a certain look while growing my hair out. My hair stylist did just that! I've been to many different places where you ask for one style and the result is far from what you expect to see. I usually have a negative comment about the places I visit but I truly enjoyed my experience.

DO NOT GO!! I walked in and the two girls at the counter were busy talking, after about a minute a very nice boy greeted me but told me they were going to be with me in just a few minutes. I then waited over 20 minutes past my appointment time until an assistant came and told me they were ready for me, which in my opinion just seemed like they were stalling me even more by taking another 15-20 minutes of massaging my shoulders (granted it was nice but i was there for a color & cut)! Finally a stylist came over and did my color in probably 15 minutes and put me in a lounge area, which was nice. When the color was done processing another assistant came and rinsed me and had me wait in a chair for another 10 minutes for my cut and then the assistant styled me!!! I paid an OUTRAGEOUS amount of money for a color and a cut and the majority of it was done by an assistant!! I don't know who's getting the shaft here, me or the assistant! The salon is a non-tipping salon but i tell you, if i could have tipped it would have all gone to those assistants, not the stylists!! I was never asked if i was satisfied with my hair or anything. I felt very rushed and unwelcome. I would not go back again!

My 1st salon experience here was NOT good. I came in for a color & a cut. I only received the color and a bit of a trim on my bangs. I was upset, but they hustled me out of there so quick I just figured I'd leave & never come back! I love Aveda products and this salon is literally across the street from my house, so I checked CitySearch for user reviews and came across one with a good comment for a stylist named Jennifer. I made an appointment, came in and was pleasantly surprised. She did a great job with my haircut, really listened to what I wanted, and gave me great advice on how to maintain my "do". I would definitely suggest asking for Jennifer for any salon services!

Pros: Knowledgable about their products

Cons: There are "students' there learning the trade... steer clear!

I went in last weekend with little notice for a relaxation massage and was very pleased with my experience. I had Latonya and she was very professional - friendly yet focused on ensuring that I was taken care of. She also provided a nice foot soak to start off. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't tip her to show my gratitude but I'll definitely be back.

You will pay a high price for their Non-Tipping Policy!!!

I went there for color and this unexperienced girl left me looking like a pumpkin. I went back to get my hair fixed from what this girl had done to my hair and they did not even offer me a reduction on the price for all the inconvenience that I had been trough. One of their employees even told me that this girl was not good at all and that's why she did not work there anymore. How unprofessional is that!!!

I DO NOT recommend it. I's supper expensive. I would not mind paying extra for an experienced hairdresser, but it seems like this people just hire anyone from the streets.

This is truly a fantastic salon. I went in early September, so as of right now, this is a very recent review! I had previously gone to Deidre at Salon 218, (which is now closed), and I found another stylist when I was away at college. I was visitng my family in the OC, and I heard through the grapevine that she was at the new salon in Bella Terra. My hair desperately needed some highlights, so I though I'd go and check it out. At first the prices seemed pretty high to me (105 for partial highlights, NOT including a cut) but when they said it included tip, it sounded about right. Well, let me tell you, this is not your average highlighting experience!
First, you get a fantastic head, neck, and shoulder massage. Then the coloring got done, (which included way more foils and colors than I've ever received at previous salons), and when she was shampooing me, I got a hand and arm massage!! Talk about FREEBIES!
I also needed my eyebrows waxed, so I made an appointment for that later in the day, and I should have guessed, but more FREEBIES! all waxing services include a foot soak, which smells heavenly and you get a mini foot massage!
Honestly, for what you pay, it's almost like it's cheap. almost. You will never find this anywhere else.

I love this place. When they first opened, I went in to buy some Aveda products, not realizing they were an Aveda salon as well. I spoke with the owner, Janice, that day, and she blended some "purefume" for me. She is GREAT. Warm, friendly, caring. Her wonderful staff reflects her great attitude. Everyone that I've met there is courteous, pleasant and goes out of their way to make sure you have what you need. Even IF I didn't like my haircuts there (Shama has been doing a great job on my hair) I'd still go there for something else. I just love being there. Of course, it smells great when you walk in, between the tea and the wonderful products, and then you add the friendliness of the staff and you end up with wonderful ambience. They also do "Model Tuesdays" so if you're flexible you can go in and have a free, or very reduced price, service done. I've had a cut and a color done on Model Tuesday and both times have been really pleased. And even on Model Tuesday you get the whole service - scalp massage, hand and arm massage.... you name it. AND you get points for every dollar you spend! I'm saving up my points for one of their fabulous facials!!!
Thanks for bringing some class to Huntington Beach.

we sent my girlfriend for her birthday. she told them it was fun-she never complains. but when we went to make other appiontments she said NO, they were late and her treatments were shortened and they did not take from bill. example we wanted her to have a 2 hour facial she only recieved 90 min; the massage was great but recieved 70 of the 90 min....the hair was ok.
they could be more consistent.1 customer bought a small item and they wrapped it for her. our friend buys several items and they just toss in a plastic bag that rips. we will stay at the hyatt

I am a 66 year old "Diva" and I hate it when a stylist asks what I want and then gives me the same haircut she gives every other "senior" she works on. Deidre listened to me and she gave me the first haircut that was exactly what I wanted. The salon is very relaxing, very clean and everyone very friendly. I love the scalp and hand massage with each service and the no tipping policy was a nice surprise. It is a real plus that Hue offers so many events to help answer your makeup and hairstyling questions and helps you "do it yourself". I love this salon!

My father is a hair stylist and has been doing my hair for most of my life. Since he has moved, I have been jumping from stylist to stylist, until I found Hue! Everyone working at the salon from receptionist to seasoned stylist is professional, courteous and makes you feel like you got your money's worth. Beyond great customer service, you are always offered tea or water, get a scalp massage and hand massage with every haircut. They have a great stylist education program, so you know everyone is a professional. The no tipping policy is amazing. Hue delivers nothing but the very best to their clients.

I have been coloring my hair for YEARS and this is one of the BEST I've ever been to. The staff is all very friendly, when you first sit down you recive a scalp massage with wonderful oils, that was so relaxing. After your color is applied you get to relax in a private area with reading material or TV. It's nice not to be sitting under a dryer with someone sitting right next to you. Next, one of the assistants comes and gives you a paraffin wax treatment on your hands and takes you to the shampoo bowl. They actually wash your hair and massage your scalp. I had Jennifer cut my hair, it was perfect. She did alot of layers just the way I wanted it. After drying and styling my hair they took my for make-up touch ups. I left feeling like a princess. I've been back 3 times and every time I love it more. They have VERY flexible hours and I love the no tipping. You don't have to worry about feeling cheap or did I give enough? I definetly recommed this salon to everyone!

I live across the street from their location and was curious about what they offered, but was apprehensive because I'd had a mediocre experience at another Aveda branded salon (I was WAY overcharged for what I received). I found their phone number and gave them a call a little after 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon and tried to arrange an appointment for later that day. The receptionist told me they had no appointments available that day (they're open 'til 9pm), but to hold and she'd check.... she came back on the line and informed me that they could squeeze me in at 4pm (I wasn't even a regular, name another salon that will make that kind of effort).

I made it there, walked in to a smiling receptionist that offered me tea and introduced me to the nicest stylist ever (for taking me on 15 minute notice). Her name is Sharon. Sharon gave a 5min neck/shoulder massage, hand massage and the best cut I've had since I had my last regular stylist (2 years ago). She was attentive and adapted the pictures I brought into a cut that would be easy to maintain and style. Hue has a no tipping policy, instead they ask patrons to purchase Aveda products after services, but I wouldn't say that you're pressured to buy (I was looking at my receipt and I think the stylist gets a commision maybe?). I have to say, if there was ever a time I wanted to leave a 50% tip, it was then.

My hair is very important to me. When I lived in L.A. I went to a salon in Beverly Hills, because that is where I was able to get the best hair cut and feel pampered. Then I moved to Orange County and have been to several salons, but they all did terrible jobs and rushed me through the cut and style. I ended up having to drive all the way to Beverly Hills to my old salon to get my hair fixed.

Finally, I found Hue! I decided to give it a try since they use Aveda, which is what I use at home. Sharon did a wonderful job! She listened to my needs and cut and styled my hair better than what I got in Beverly Hills.

The experience was also great! She massaged my scalp, neck, arms, and hands. I was also able sip a nice cup of tea while getting my hair cut.

One surprising plus is their salon is a non-tipping salon which, to me is great, because then I don't have to think about how much to tip.

Pros: Friendliness, unpretentious, massages

This salon is the BEST! Not only are these women the friendliest in town, they are hip, yet not wild, and cool not frumpy. This salin is not snooty at all, but could be due to what a FABULOUS job they do cutting your hair. I will do a color next time, also. I hear it's great too. My hair is easy, free flowing and very stylish! Shama is top notch.

Hue is the best salon/spa I have enjoyed in the LA area. I highly recommend the hour long facial with Ashley-- it's just what a girl needs after battling LA traffic. I've had my hair cut and highlighted with them as well and definitely plan to return. Their colorists are very artistic and pay attention to the details of what their customers want, and my hair cut is excellent. I second the recommendation for the tea, I am addicted to it.
