Saints & Sinners blends the nice and the naughty, the elegant and the decadent. Late 60s and early 70s lounge decor is our first commandment. Think porn producer's house with a sprinkling of "James Bond". With the main room's circular fireplace, buttoned-vinyl ceiling and chandeliers, purgatory never felt so good. Feeling really naughty? Slip into the velvet wallpapered confines of the intimate private lounge. Our DJs spin the best in cutting-edge indie, 80s, 70s rock, punk and more. Monday "Booty Shakin' Mondays" Drink specials! Tuesday "Bring Your Own iPod Night" -$3 Dewars & Ginger, $5 Evil Dewars Wednesday "The Devil's Whorehouse" -$3.50 Guinness, $3 whiskey Thursday "Satanic Swingers Lounge" - funk, soul & rock 'n' roll -$6 martini, $3.50 kamikaze Friday "Palms Weekend" Saturday "Raw Power" Sunday "S&S '80s night" -$3 Corona, $3.50 $3.50 Jolly Rancher shots

Editorial by

In Short
Straight out of "Boogie Nights," this Culver City lounge mixes elements of naughty and nice to create a kitschy-fun drinking experience. Following along the theme-bar lines of owner Bobby Green's woodsy Bigfoot Lodge and batty Little Cave, the retro-inspired space incorporates an illuminated circular fireplace, buttoned-vinyl ceiling and oyster-shell chandeliers above a baroque-cupid flanked bar. Guests sprawl among snuggley furniture set against furry velvet walls, or groove to a mix of modern house and classic rock inside the rear alcove.

Key Points

  • Happy Hour: 5-8 pm daily
  • Naughty signature drinks!
  • Indie, rock, '80s, soul + more

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - Two separate lounge areas are available for private parties and events, but must be booked in advance.
  2. What to Drink - Depending on your mood, try the Hell Fire (flaming cinnamon liqueur shot) or Holy Water (vodka-infused shot) cocktails, both expertly mixed and reasonably priced.
  3. Save Time - The bar is small and the DJ scene very popular on weekends--plan to arrive before 11pm to avoid a wait in line.

This is a really cool bar wtih tons of different nightly drink specials. They play a lot of 70', 80's, and punk music and the club attracts a slightly edgier crowd then most. The decor is also really cool. It's very 70's James Bond.

Ratings_icons Not Bad for A Bar

Just remember that most people that come here are ready to drink and have fun. It's a great place to sit down and meet some other women. The music choice is good and I never get bored going there.

Pros: Never get bored

Cons: Sometimes it gets boring

Ratings_icons Fun Birthday Celebration Place

trojan31

Was there for a birthday party last night and had a great time. The bartenders were nice and offered quick service, and even stopped everything for a bit to have the bar sing happy birthday to my friend and do their quick fire stunt and gave her her complimentary shot. The decor was nice and I actually liked the lighting at the bar, lets you get a look at the good looking people there. The music, was okay but I guess its not really a dancing spot. Would like to check it out on IPOD night, seems like the night to go.

Pros: Bartenders, ambience

Cons: music

Ratings_icons my favorite bar!

ohyeahtuttle

I never thought I would be the type of person who would have a regular bar, but ever since I've been coming to this place, I've never wanted to go anywhere else.
It is an easygoing atmosphere, with cool bartenders who like to have fun!
Sometimes they have themed parties like second chance prom or toga parties.
I especially frequent tuesdays when they have ipod night. Anyone can sign up their ipod for a 30 minute set. But be careful it can be boo'd or cheered on depending on the crowd's taste. Its a lot of fun for sure!
I recommend it to all my friends and they all want to come back again, so its not just me. Come check it out, I dare you!!!

Pros: bartenders, good times

Cons: uh....nothing

Ratings_icons The name is cooler than the people

lalocalsince86

With a great name like Saints & Sinners, it's a lot to live up to. For my friends and I, the crowd that frequents this place seems to be no more than just a mix of college kids. Not really our scene. This place has a sports bar clientele with swanky Sinatra decor. Could be so much better if the door men weren't on such a power trip. We were rejected last time, because one of our friends who is 25 had a Tahitian driver's license. The door guy was so rude, he said, "I could make this at home." Well, I've bartended for over eight years, and I know both sides of the coin. Yes, they have a job and bartenders to protect, but if it were me at the door, I would look at the whole situation first. She was with four people: 2 who are in their 40's and 2 who are nearly 30. If she was with a bunch of 21 year-olds, I would side with the doorman, but we were obviously a group of more maturity. The door guy could have handled this type of situation with some class and without being so rude and condescending to "guests." If I was the bartender, I'd be upset that they turned away five people and their pockets full of money when the bar was not crowded. That aside, I've been to this bar several times as a "last resort" when everything else in the neighborhood is closed. Though it's not my scene, was willing to give it another shot, but now that's been shot to hell. Oh well, their loss. We have a lot of out of town visitors, so we'll take them and their money somewhere else.

Pros: Great decor

Cons: Not my scene, rude doorman

Ratings_icons Great little find!

tverrett

My husband is into visiting anyplace that has a 'cocktails' sign. We have driven by S&S plenty of times without knowing what it was called or what was inside. On a Sunday evening we were driving back from Bev. Hills and I said to him, "just pull over so we can finally go in this place." We're SO glad we did! It was rather empty (one other couple) but we got to chatting with the staff and had a great time. Before you knew it, two hours had passed and the bar was rather full. We'll certainly return soon.

Pros: Can go on off times to get to know people and avoid the crowds

Cons: The fireplace wasn't on.

Ratings_icons Best little bar in Culver City

anananas

I had my 30th birthday party here and we had the best time! The manager Ian was awesome, so accomodating and helpful - and my over 100 person party all had a fabulous time! Everything we ordered was tasty and we all loved the fire shows. This is my neighbourhood bar and I love going here, but after my bday party I've become even more of a loyal customer!!

Pros: Great Drinks, Great Music, Bartenders & Manager are awesome!

Cons: Parking is a pain sometimes!

Tuesday's are a Riot! That "pierced fool" was hysterical and could do tricks like Tom Cruise. They play customers ipods and if you don't like a song you can scream and get it changed. I never waited long for a drink except when he and the other guy shot fire out of their mouths and that was worth it. It's one of the best bars I've been to!

Ratings_icons Had a bad experience and haven't been back...

I always liked this spot; cool decor, attractive (if a little pretentious) crowd, just a fun hipster scene. That all went sour the last time we went. The bartender was noticeably drunk first of all. It took him several times to make my rum and coke (how hard is that?!) and had to keep asking what we had ordered. My friend was buying the first round. The total was $19 and all he had was a twenty dollar bill. He knew $1 tip wasn't cool but the guy HAD messed up our drinks several times, and that's all the cash he had. The drunken 'tender held up the dollar and was like, "Oooh thanks" and kissed it all dramatically. I'm sorry, but that is just plain rude and unprofessional...not to mention being drunk on the job.

It just left a bad taste in our mouths...or maybe that was the poorly mixed drinks.

Pros: Fun decor, cool people, loud music

Cons: Rude staff, long wait

Ratings_icons Good music + affordable drinks + chilled/diversed crowd = Great Bar!

mklee176

I went S&S this past Friday for a date, and I was pleasantly surprised at the place, the DJ spinned a good mix of music from hip hop to '80's rock, to new wave, so there is definitely something for everyone. Between my date and I, we had 4 Hell Fires (not as strong as I'd like, but, ain't so bad), 4 beers, and 4 rum & diet cokes, and the bill was for about $80.00, that's pretty damn good, in fact, UNHEARD OF in LA....well, Cozy's Inn in Culver City has cheaper drinks, but, the crowd there is a tad older and not as attractive. We were there from 730PM to 1230AM, and a mixed group of people were in there, you have your hippies-musician types, the smarties, the posers, and the ones that want to be seen...but, all in all, it was a great experience.

Ratings_icons Culver City is coming up! Great Bar!

calli24

I went with a friend of mine to have a quiet evening one Tues night. Although we enjoyed how it was quiet around 9pm, for us to talk and chill out, as the night grew on- and the 'IPOD' night began- more people showed up, and we still had the BEST time! The bartenders are super cool and make good drinks- and the crowd is NOT pretenious- everyone is just out to have a great time. It is small- but for a date/ or small group of friends- perfect!

Ratings_icons the place to be on the westside

burnienowax

To the person below, you are right about one thing: you and your friends may be the only people who feel that way about S&S. You sound like you went on a weekend, and on the weekends the place is crowded. It's a sign of a good bar. Anyone who doesn't like crowded bars should definitely avoid S&S on the weekends and come on the weekdays instead - although on some weekday nights it gets crowded too... I guess the place can't help but be popular ;) The music is definitely played loud and thank God for that. S&S DJs tend to play more obscure, under-the-radar music along with old classics, so if you go to the DJ requesting Fergie or some such nonsense, don't be surprised if you get a funny look. The crowd there is very particular about the music played - I've occasionally seen DJs get booed by the crowd for playing certain songs - so it's safe to say that if the crowd's letting the record play, they're into it. the staff are the friendliest, most entertaining bunch of folk you could ask for behind a bar, and the fireplace and lounge areas mean you have the choice to sit and mellow out with your folks or rage it out at the bar with the other lunatics. All in all, excellent spot as far as I'm concerned. See you there.

Pros: staff, STRONG drinks, original music selection, great decor, i can go on...

Ratings_icons Hot, crowded, poor re-design, bad DJ, ultra-loud, long lines

dolomick

I hated this place, even though it looks like my friends and I are the only ones that feel this way. When we went it was RIDICULOUSLY loud, and I like loud places. The DJ, while attractive, was not good at DJ'ing, it took forever to get a drink, there was no place to stand, & the fireplace coupled with all the people made the place unbearably hot. The layout of the place is also appallingly bad, with the result becoming a mass of people trying to fight their way to the bar - the place is tiny already, whoever thought of putting a half-wall 3 feet behind the bar should be flogged mercilessly. I'm all for nice spots on the Westside, being a Westsider, but go to Beechwood or The Brig or somewhere on Main street and skip the useless wait for such a poor payoff. Needless to say, we left after 20 minutes and walked to Ray's, a true Westside dive where the drinks are cheap and stiff and you can hear your friends talking to you without being drenched in sweat.

Pros: easy parking

Cons: lines, hot, loud, crowded

i recently went here with a friend and had a good time. it is cozy (small). the dj spins ok music. there is a nice fireplace by the door. there is a room off to the side when you don't want your converation drowned out by the music. there is also a small patio for smokers. the crowd is unpretentious. they make good drinks. i would go back.

Really, this is a place where anyone can come and feel comfortable. It's fun to stop by for a drink or chill all night at the bar. It does tend to get crowded, especially later in the night, but it's a blast. The staff is great there too. One of the ladies that works at the bar inspired my friends and I to get our tattoos!

This bar is great and a must to stop by for drinks and a fun younger crowd. Check out the 70's oil lamp in the back, I'm sure your grandmother had one just like it! The bartenders put on a great show also.

We discovered this place about 3 months ago, and being thats its in walking distance, its perfect for us. We are there at least once a weekend. The staff is great, the atmosphere is very social and friendly. Its got its own style between the gorgeous DJ on saturdays and the interesting 70s movies the project on the wall. Be sure to check out the wallpaper in the back "U" booth. Its very small though, so I fully expect to see the line getting longer as this place gets more popular. Its always entertaining and the crowd is always varied.

Pros: Staff, Ambience

Cons: Size

Ratings_icons Groovy Lounge

stellarmonoceros

This place is a true gem. From the funky retro decor to the uppity dj beats, this place screams of a good time. Cozy seats and flaming shots, angels, devils, and a line around the block. The drinks are affordable, the bartenders are entertaining, and the overal vibe is very chill. (This isn't an in-your face dance club or a snooty hollywood lounge.). Be sure to check out the 'Bring Your Own Ipod" night for a rockin good time.

Pros: Parking, Cheap Specialty Drinks

Cons: Crowded, Line

thismaenad

In one word, this place is FABULOUS. Been there three times now and the only con is how tiny the venue is. But overall, a great place to hang out if you're on the Westside and proof that Culver City is coming up up UP! For a Westside bar, the price of drinks is reasonable and djs are truly awesome. Try to arrive before 10 PM. If you're alone, definitely chill at the bar, otherwise around the fireplace is great, or, if you're lucky, snag the back room. Around 10:30 the bartenders put on a firebreathing show and they end up doing it about every half hour. Drinks are imaginative and delish (try the hellfire, which you MUST chug). It also doesn't hurt that the sexy mustachioed blondie behind the bar is pouring your glass...

Pros: the drinks, the music, the overall vibe

Cons: the size of the venue, the lines on weekends

went to saints and sinners for the first time last night (st. patty's day.) we got there at around 10, and wound up waiting in a line for nearly 1/2 hour... but due to the fact that it was a drinking-oriented holiday, we kind of expected that. also, i realized why we had to wait so long the second i stepped through the door--the place is TINY! but the drinks are strong, the decor charming, the service fantastic and the crowd surprisingly friendly... all in all, it was a nice place to hang out. i will go back on a quieter night with a larger group to make use of the livingroom-like seating arrangement around the fireplace. ps: the $5 valet service makes venice blvd. much more manageable!

Pros: atmosphere, stiff drinks, staff

Cons: the line!

Ratings_icons A step up

graciepitstop

Saints and Sinners used to be a little hole in the wall called Sarna's just under a year ago with one pool table and toothless patrons. Needless to say, the improvement was drastic and the establishment is one you can't pass up! Although packed on the weekends (which just adds to the party buzz), the weekdays are mellow and a great place for a chat with friends. The deco is fabulous and the bar staff have pheonomenal style themselves. Only con would be the parking, but there's cheap valet. Its a breath of fresh air from the typical Hollywood scene.

Pros: atmosphere, bar staff, anti-hollywood feel

Cons: parking

If it was I could take some time deciding which direction I wanted to go. Groovy (only appropriate descriptive) place, Holy Water is awesome, bartenders are fast, friendly, and poor strong drinks at a decent price. Only downsides are that its not big enough for the crowds, and if they serve food I didn't see it the couple of times I've been there.

This place is great. The drinks are very strong and tasty. The ambience is warm and comfy. There's a fireplace in the round, cushioned benches, and even a private room. I highly recommend checking it out. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but once you're inside you can see the attention to detail they took with their design.

It is soo refreshing to finally have a stylish lounge on the westside! It was stylish but laid back then a hollywood lounge for sure! The music was great! NO cover and the drinks were fun & inexpensive! Nice atmosphere although its pretty tiny. It was CRAWLING with hot guys!
They have potential but they definitly need to hire more staff (you would loose your buzz waiting for a drink because there were not enough bartenders) and there were drinks crashing about our feet because there was noone to clear empty glasses and bottles that were stacking up on tables and various other places.

Pros: no cover, great atmosphere, cheap & unique drinks

Cons: tiny building, not enough staff, uncomfortable seating

Finally, a cool little spot that retains its edge. The corner of Venice and Kelton may not be the most chic address in town, but this new spot has great ambiance. The room dividers create intimacy without sacrificing flow or openness, making Saints & Sinners is a great place to hang out with friends and good drinks. Try the Angel Dust--it's sweet and sinful.

A note: there is no food available, so you may want to plan on eating before or after.

Pros: Intimate, Good drinks

Cons: No food
