5 Stars: Great place to tan (by by radmanager at Citysearch)

I find it funny that there is ANY mention of this place having bad beds or rude people. I have been going to SunsUp for over 2 years. I started tanning with them because my old tanning salon NEVER changed their bulbs. I would always have to tell them that were bulbs out and often times asked to clean my own bed. That has NEVER been the case with SunsUp. Within a month I started seeing great color on my skin and have always been treated like a friend when I visit the team at B Beaverton! Megan will see me copming in, get m favorite radio station ready on my favorite bed. I think the people writing the reviews below must be worried about how well SunsUp is doing. My understanding is that they are opening a new salon in West Linn and continue to grow. So maybe the same people claiming that employess are writing reviews on their own company ( which I find funny because they are always busy) are the same people vying for tanning business in Portland.

1 Stars: DISGUSTING SALON (by by pdxtrouble at Citysearch)

I have never been given such poor service in a tanning salon in my life. Not only are the sales people rude and unknowledgeable, but they push packages and lotions on you every time you come in.Dont even get me started on the ridiculous office staff that never returns your calls. Every time that I have tanned there i've had to ask for my bed to be recleaned, I have been given dirty towels, the bulbs are uneven and old. Their claim that they are replaced twice as often is completely bogus. They recycle their bulbs into other beds. Oh, and at meetings...THEY ASK THEIR EMPLOYEES TO WRITE GOOD REVIEWS ON CITY SEARCH. Dont be fooled by the good reviews...i've never heard a good word about this place.

5 Stars: Suns up rocks. What are you talking about?! (by by poooooh at Citysearch)

Okay so I wanted to come on here to say that those negative reviews are SO BOGUS! No, I do not work for suns up. Nor have I EVER worked for suns up. I originally lived in Oklahoma where there were very limited tanning salons. They'd only change out their bulbs AFTER the manufacturer would say to. I'd never get tanned! I moved to Alabama - same ole same ole. Never got tanned. limited tanning salons in the area. People there didnt know ANYTHING about tanning, or the products they were selling. Packages were entirely over priced. Can you imagine paying $70 for 300 minutes of tanning? thats 15 tans for me! I moved to Portland, Or On January 1st 2008. I immediately started going to this Suns up on Mcloughlin. Let me tell you. I walked in & was completely overwhelmed with how nice it looked in there. The ladies in there were especially nice. Mostly a girl named Chanel? She's the sweetest of the sweet! We discussed the tanning packages. $20 for unlimited tanning?! HOLY COW THIS IS AWESOME! The beds were awesome. Best beds I'd ever been in. I got SOOO dark and have pictures to prove it. :] && I loved the built in cd player/radio which no other tanning salon I went to had. I also went to the suns up in Gresham. I think thats where I met the Ashley girl that posted a review on here? She was incredibly nice.. all of the employees knew a lot about tanning, lotions, they werent pushy on sales. They even remembered MY NAME after only going in there a few times! So, I moved back to Alabama. [sad face] When I went to cancel.. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. Sure you cant call in to cancel your membership because they dont want anyone else calling in when you dont REALLY want it canceled! makes sense right? Not to mention! They gave me a $50 gift card just in case I moved back & wanted to start up again & wouldnt have to pay the $50 startup membership fee. [which by the way is worth it] I still havent found another tanning salon like suns up here in alabama. I MISS SUNS UP! :(

5 Stars: From a Suns Up staff member! (by by sunsupstaff3 at Citysearch)

All of these negative reviews about our fabulous stores are nothing but BS BS BS. Yes, I am an employee who is biased, but I am an employee by choice and I am biased because Suns Up is the best. My name is Ashley, and I am the manager of the Wilsonville location. I have managed other salons in town, and I can tell you from experience that as an employee and a customer, Suns Up is the best tanning salon chain in Oregon, and I don't need to come on here anonymously and bash other salon chains to get that point across. I'm not going to waste my time listing all of the reasons we are the best salon, because the negative reviews written by our wanna-be "competitors" does a great job of demonstrating it. If you want to know why Suns Up is so amazing, come in to any of our 11 locations and find out for yourself. Talk to a tanning consultant or manager, take a tour, and try our equipment, because all of these things speak for themselves. I would, however, like to dispel a few myths that I have read on here so all of our future customers (and those aforementioned "competitors") are clear:

1) Our staff is a hand-picked team of highly trained, knowledgeable, and not at all pushy tanning experts. If they weren't the best of the best, they would not be employed with us.
2) We do not "push" the purchase of huge packages to our customers... We get to know their needs, and customize a package for them. Note: Unlimited tanning for less than $20 on beds w/ lamps changed twice as often as the manufacturer suggests is HARDLY my idea of pricey.
3) Saying the owners and upper management love and value their company doesn't even begin to touch on the topic. Our customers are not like family, they ARE family, end of story.

If there is anyone out there, "competitors" or new customers who would like to experience the Suns Up difference themselves, please stop in any of our locations, or better yet, stop by mine and let me show you who Suns Up really is.

5 Stars: Seriously (by by ckh1969 at Citysearch)

It is very transparent that most of these reviews that are on here and bogus. It is common for competitors to write negative reviews of businesses, but this has gone too far. Please leave the fake reviews off of the City Search postings, it really ruins the entire usefulness of this site. I happen to know first hand the person/ business who has been posting these and I think its pretty miserable of them. Please consider for yourself any businesses that have negative reviews that are similar in length, typo's and references made to other businesses, before you take them to heart. - Concerned City Search User

Pros: Nice, CLEAN, inexpensive

5 Stars: my experience with SunsUp (by by krazy8 at Citysearch)

I have been a customer of SunsUp tanning now for about 6 years and in all of that time I have to say.... the sales staff at all of the locations are so friendly. Everytime I have gone in they always have a huge smile on their faces and they welcome me warmly,. The salons are beautiful and in a class all their own especially the new salon in Hazel Dell . The prices are out of this world. I still can not believe it is only $19.88 a month. I upgraded my account about 2 years ago to the $19.88 package. That is the cheapest I have seen anywhere and I have been tanning for awhile. I highly recommend SunsUp Tanning to any and everyone looking for a great deal.

4 Stars: Absolutely AMAZING! (by by lovelifealways at Citysearch)

So I have considered tanning a few times now but with my fair skin I just wasnt sure if it would be worth it. Plus I went down the street to this new Islands place and Wow expensive and then I went to this other place close by and eww...but I wouldnt have know those places were bad until I went to check out SunsUp. Clean, Nice, BEAUTIFUL salon. I have never seen beds like them, and the service...outstanding. THe first thing they asked was what would you like to do...well I wouldnt have known how to answer this either if I wouldnt have gotten a tour first. Honestly, I got unlimited tanning for $19.88 a month, no contract, I can cancel whenever, and there is no cancellation fee. And I just found out they have 11 locations, I can tan at any of them! Check them out!!!

5 Stars: Very impressed! (by by karma530 at Citysearch)

I love the service I get at SunsUp! I pay less than $20 a month and get unlimited tanning whenever I want! I have been to several of their Portland area locations, and they are all beautiful... definitely unlike any other tanning salon I have ever been to! My first impression, besides the modern, clean salon itself, is the friendly and knowledgeable staff. They are always so helpful and greet me with a smile on their face...and they know SO much about their beds and lotions! I know I can trust them to sell me exactly what I need. I would definitely recommend that everyone tries out SunsUp. You can't beat the price for the quality and service they provide!

5 Stars: Best Tanning Salon (by by haleyrose7 at Citysearch)

This is the best tanning salon that I have ever been too! It is BEAUTIFUL, soo clean, has an awesome staff, and the best tanning beds I have ever been in! Sunsup has the most variety in beds, lotions, and packages that I have personally ever seen! I only pay$19.88 a month and can tan everyday if I wanted to! When you go there it feels like a spa, and you just know that you don't have to worry about any of the weird things you hear about tanning salons!I have been to all of the other tanning salons like islands or club tan and let me tell you.... none of them compare! The people in there know so much, and are soo helpful! You can tell they truely want to help you feel better about yourself before you walk out of there! I would NEVER tan anywhere else!

1 Stars: NO CARE FOR CUSTOMER (by by JessC1214 at Citysearch)

I signed up on Citysearch so I could specifically write about this terrible salon. They have so many sneaky ways of trying to take your money. From their Sun Bucks (which you will never be able to buy a package and completely depelete it. You'll have 25 bucks and oh sad - a tan is 30. Can I pay the difference or buy 5 Sun Bucks? No - you have to buy another huge package). Also I went in to cancel my tanning there (can't do it over the phone) and you have to give 45 days notice, otherwise they will charge you TWICE! I cancelled membership 3/12, got charged on 3/18. Fine. But then I was charged again on 4/16! They said I needed to cancel by 3/1. WHY exactly? Your tanning computer system isn't that complex and there's no reason except to screw customers as to why you would need so long. Their beds are fine (oh except that time I went in the spray tan and there was no liquid actually spraying me... so they refilled it and had me try again!) but save yourself some grief and MONEY and go elsewhere.

1 Stars: DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! (by by adamreese4 at Citysearch)

My experience there was not good. I was put in a tanning room that smelled awaful and never was cleaned.
The girls at the front counter were not nice and there beds did not tan me.

1 Stars: High Pressure, Rude Staff (by by dotthronton at Citysearch)

I've used this salon twice before to mystic tan for New Year's and liked that it was clean and well kept, so I walked in ready to sign up for regular monthly tanning to get some color back in my skin. I asked to see listing of packages availalabe and pricing, and was informed "we don't have price lists, because we have 8 locations and packages are always changing, so it'd be silly to have a price list" I'm thinking, yeah.... even bars have drink lists although they offer food and drink specials that change daily... how "silly"... So the gal starts into how with a membership (WTF.. I need a membership to tan?)) My costs COULD be as low as $19.99 a month.. with a joining fee and 3 year membership, otherwise their monthly tanning on a regular bed was $70 a month. I've been to nicer salons in more expensive cities and have never been quoted such outgrageous prices to tan, plus the whole experience made me feel like I was with some slimy, high pressure gym salesperson.. perhaps they are recruiting their salespeople straight from 24 hr fintness? I won't be back!
