Memorial Hospital of Gardena

I DO NOT RECCOMEND annyone sending their loved one that is sick to this hospital. My grandmother went there , because she couldnt't breath. They diagnosed her with pneomonia, then released her. She went back and two weeks she died. She had an "infection" the one u bastards injected in her. They yelled over my mother tellin her she was going to die n that same nite she did. The nurses tried but that heart surgeon was no gud he kept talkin bout the money. Damn!!! I hate the healthcare in America, ur so effin stingy and heartless!!!!!!!!! In Cuba u can get medicine for cancer for five cents- 10 cents its a effinjoke!!!!!!! Whoeva has done this will pay!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe that medical service in this country can get much worse than what I've experienced with my father (who speaks limited english) for his gall-bladder removal. The hospital is absolutely dysfunctional at every level of the organization.

I've exchanged a total of 10 sentences with the 3 doctors assigned to my father combined. Yet the nurses repeatedly, on a daily basis, had my father sign "consent" forms (read: legal outs for the hospital) stating that the doctor met and discussed everything before and after each procedure, including CT-scans, answering all questions. When I objected to having to sign so many legal forms that serve as nothing but protection for the hospital without them actually fufilling what is stated, the doctors got defensive and communicated even less. What makes it more frustrating is that everyone- nurses, doctors, administrators, had my cell phone number and were unwilling to communicate.

Nurse care was very inconsistent and was a hit or miss depending on which was assigned. I noticed on a number of occasions when nurses forgot to do things for my dad and when I asked, they simply pretended it wasn't a big deal. And I'm not exaggerating or being nit-picky. For example, my father had a pair of pressure cuffs put on his legs to keep blood flowing when he was laying down. I noticed one afternoon that it was taken off. When I asked the nurse, she just simply shrugged and asked "do you want them on?" What??- I thought the medical professionals were the ones to make these decisions. Apparently, they were soppose to be on because she quickly put them back on, but they were left off since the morning (about 5 hours). Machines are constantly ringing for the nurse's attention, but they're either too busy or too slow to acknowldege in what would seem a timely matter considering that someone's medical condition is on the line. Forget about nurses answering patient's calls on the nurse buttons. My father gave up after the first few hours of trying and just called me on the phone for the important things. And forget about sleeping because everyone seems to be deaf- staff are constantly screaming and yelling right outside of patient's rooms; not about important stuff, but about what they did the night prior. A nurse even went as far as ask me to bring my father food when I complained that he didn't recieve his dinner because of a poorly scheduled CT-scan (right at dinner time).

When the patients do recieve food, the nurses regularly slap food in front of patients without even trying to see if they need to be readjusted to a position to eat. My dad was stuck in a position in what turned out to be a broken bed (which I later found out they knew about) for several hours one day causing back pain and the nurses response was to shoot his back with a morphine shot. The beds are all old with poorly placed control buttons that half the patients can't reach-thus stuck until a nurse comes which is rare.

The LVN's, CNA's, etc., are even worse. The person taking blood samples from my dad couldn't find a vein and repeatedly had to poke him several time per visit causing all types of bruises (not good for a diabetic). Several walked in to my dad's room which was being shared with another family and we all objected to them touching our loved ones after seeing them repeatedly hack and cough into their hands and blowing their nose (obviously sick). You'd think that medical professionals would have more common sense.

As for my father, he had his gall-bladder removed but with an open procedure (cut open) instead of a procedure with small incisions. The doctor's explanation was that it was hard to "see." Then on top of that, my father caught pneumonia. Combined with the inconsistent care he's recieved, he's having a hard time recovering going in and out of the ICU unit.

My only wish is that I had sense enough to take my dad to a better hospital.

So let this be a warning to everyone, STAY AWAY from this disaster of a place they call a hospital.

Built about 40 years ago, this hospital was once the shining star of the South Bay. I haven't been her in nearly 10 years until this week. Oh my gosh! Everywhere you look there are walls that need repair, cracked door frames, and "old" equipment. In the ER last night my relative waited almost 90 min. to be seen by an MD and she had bad internal bleeding! The ER is out of control. Way too many people with minor ailments that shouldn't even be referred to an "urgent care" facility! There was a male RN who had enough "tact" and "deplomacy" to deal with these folks.From the parking lot to the ICU and places in-between...this hospital is needed but needs millions worth of re-hab and upgrades. I hope someone does something soon.....medical facilities in Iraq are in better shape than this one!

The Gardena Memorial Hospital is a life saver, in our family, it has been our neighborhood hospital for 10 years and they attend you as if you were family. They have been with us through some harsh moments, and the managed to relax us about any medical concerns that any one of our family may have.

Its basically a Hospital that our family has trusted for 10 years and counting.
