I needed to find a new stylist as my old one is too far to drive, so I did a quick search and came across Kalista's. After reading multiple excellent reviews I made an appointment. I was a bit hesitant to try someone new because I have definitely had bad experiences, but Kelly was fantastic. I will be back.

In February I made my first visit to Kalista spa and had the bundle lashes put on for a Vegas trip. I told the lady doing it that this was a special trip and whatever she did, I loved my lashes and they actually stayed on for just over a month!! I was so impressed that I made another appointment for another set of bundles. This time around though, they begun falling off by the following day and I had to find time in my busy schedule to go in 2 days later for repair. Within 2 days, more started to fall off, leaving big bare gaps in my lash pattern. Between my hectic work schedule and their full schedule it has been a struggle getting an appointment. Today I spoke to apparently the manager and she could have not been more unsympathetic or apologetic towards my situation and kept telling me that they would need to charge me for a maintenance job despite the fact that I'm coming in to have THEIR mistakes fixed. Then she says that the bundles can last anywhere from 3 days to a month. EXCUSE ME?? The web site does NOT state this short of a time and this is the first I have heard of them lasting so short.\r
I'm going to go in ONE MOE TIME for lash repairs as I feel like an idiot the way my lashes look. I'll update after my appointment. \r

Long and short of it: Bad customer service, bad style, bad information, incomplete services, rude, smells like crap inside.

I bought the Groupon for Kalista because I needed a quick color touch up and trim before Christmas. I tried to make an appointment through text and had spotty responses over 3 hours worth of time. I tried calling, but I got the answering machine over and over again. Finally someone responded and said I could come in in 5 minutes. Really? 5 minutes? I happen to live close so I made it in 15... and saw a completely empty salon with several workers standing around.

My stylist was clearly annoyed that I had a Groupon. When she found out I had used a box dye on my hair, she looked disgusted and said I had to reschedule because ""using their professional products will interact badly with the dye and can burn off hair."" Huh. I have used box dyes/professional dyes for years with no bad interactions. Feeling a little wary, I waited while she went to the back. When she came back, without a word, she started applying dye to my hair. WHAT? ARE YOU GOING TO BURN MY HAIR OFF? Apparently not. She globbed dye all over me- and my neck and my forehead and my arms...

She was SO ROUGH with my head. I have a tough head, so NBD, but good lord. She was whacking at my head like crazy. I literally had a sore neck the next day because she was so rough. No reason for her to be like that.

I had to fill my meter and she said ""Well, I guess for a $40 Groupon it's not worth a parking ticket"".... Hmmm. No. Nothing is worth a parking ticket. Let me go fill my meter, for crying out loud.

Once she finished with my color, she shampooed me (roughly) and then said, ""So, you just want a trim, right?"" Which, luckily I did, but the Groupon was for a full cut. Regardless, she trimmed my very long hair for about 5 minutes and then said ""Do you want any products?"" and when I responded ""no,"" she took off to the back and left me standing, dripping wet, by her station. I just kind of walked out, not sure if the transaction had been completed. The Groupon included a style, but I wasn't about to argue.

The next day, I checked out my hair, and there are still about 300 split ends on my head. Long, nasty split ends.

Kalista blows. Don't go here. They have a Groupon every week for a reason.

The reviews on this site are pretty harsh considering these girls are really trying there best and it really shows, they have such a warm friendly atmosphere and you can really tell they are close, everyone I personally encountered had wonderful things to say about each other and the owner. I Love my hair and my facial. The girl that did my straightening was so friendly and attentive and really seemed as she knew what she was doing, and the facial was amazing as well. My hope is that people start giving this place the attention it deserves and take the time to visit them. This is forever my new salon. Thank you Kalista!!

I thought my former NYC 5th Avenue Salon would be tough to beat, but Kalista is better on many levels: The staff is always friendly, atmosphere is relaxed the moment you step in, and discreet care is given for when my extensions get done. The owner, Kim, truly cares about client's needs, both mentally & physically. My hair (mostly not growing from my head) has never looked better. The prices are fair and reasonable, and the products used are always top quality (including the hair used for extensions/wigs). I've also experienced only the very best massages and facials. Also had my make-up done there and I LOVED the look. They even took the time to teach me how to do it. Kalista has a way of keeping the staff at a top quality. I've been meaning to write a positive review for years. It's always those with a complaint who take the time to write the strongest and nastiest, isn't it? I highly recommend the salon.

I absolutely love this salon! I think Kim is fantastic and have had nothing but amazing experiences there. Everyone there is so nice- from the minute you walk in the door to when you leave feeling fabulous! Their location is beautiful and I have been happy with all the services I have had there. Cuticles not even trimmed for the manicure, the polish was uneven and came off in less than 48 hours for both me and my friend. The final product looked like something you could do by yourself at home. It was not salon quality at all. I've never had a nail treatment that poorly done. Sorry, but this is a place I will not be visiting again. :-(

Cuticles not even trimmed for the manicure, the polish was uneven and came off in less than 48 hours for both me and my friend. The final product looked like something you could do by yourself at home. It was not salon quality at all. I've never had a nail treatment that poorly done. I was early to my appointment and greeted by an incredibly rude staff who were too busy online and on the phone to pay anyone any attention. My esthetician was 20 min late and never even apologized. I was never asked if it would be ok to be in a shared room with another client. Upon arrival I was told to hop on the table fully clothed (with shoes) and never offered a robe. Just wondering how they do a decolletage massage on someone with a top on? After I asked for a robe I was told to just take my top off and climb under the covers in front of my esthetician another esthetician and her client. The facial was horrible, I was never told what products were being used, the esthetician did not use enough product during cleansing and exfoliation and it was super dry and I felt as if she were about to pull my face off. I was not offered pillows or covers for my eyes while the mask was placed and I had no final moisturizer placed on my skin. I left and pretty much had to apply my own moisturizer that I carry with me. All and all not worth it and extremely unprofessional and downright rude.

Helen gave me a half-assed manicure (to go with my terrible pedicure) and then left to go to lunch - without telling me. I sat there for about 10 minutes before realizing that she wasn't coming back. The best part was that I had nail polish all over my finger tips, not just on my nails. It was so bad that another staff member offered to repaint my nails for me. I did get most of the nail polish off of my actual fingers before leaving. Not that it would have mattered since all of the polish was off within 48 hours of my visit.

This placed is beyond terrible.

I went to Kalista a few days ago and just have to say that I was HIGHLY disappointed in the service that I received. Even though I had a scheduled appt, I waited over 30 minutes -- the pedicure left everything to be desired (i.e., my feet and toes looked better before I arrived than when I left) -- and the manicure was nothing that I couldn't have easily done at home. When they took us back, the owner Kim (who was wearing such a low cut shirt I could almost see WAY more than just her cleavage) said to my best friend on her birthday ""oh my gosh how funny - I totally kept looking at you from my station thinking that you were like 13 years old and I couldn't remember having any teeny bopper clients today."" The owner Kim could not find her own set of pedicure tools, so she proceded to start using my best friends toe-nail file on me and other used tools! I said ""uuum, I can wait"" and Kim replied ""oh god, seriously? She's your best friend you don't care. You guys share everything I'm sure."" The woman who was doing my best friends pedicure rolled her eyes at the owner and said ""that's not very hygenic"" but Kim ignored her. Then, some plumbing/electrical guy came in asking about something that needed to be fixed - interupting our awful pedicure. The owner was so unprofessional replying loudly to him ""Uum, seriously? You're gonna ask me about this now?"" When he walked away she said the ""F"" word a couple times. I'm no verbal saint myself, but IN A SPA??? NOT PROFESSIONAL!! NOT RELAXING!\r
I really could go on, but it was the worst pedicure I've ever had and the massage was a waste and the attire and the conversation was not professional. I did politely complain about having to wait 25 minutes to be seen and then sitting in cold water for another 30 minutes and they offered me 10% off my bill, which they never actually credited me. \r

I took my 15 year old daughter to the salon to get feathers in her hair and booked a pedicure for myself. I forgot the name of the person who did the feathers but she did an excellent job and my daughter was very happy with the results. Adele did my pedicure and she was spectacular, she managed to paint lady bugs on my toes which were so cute but the best part was her personality. She was outgoing, friendly, engaging and she was able to converse with not just myself but my usually shy 15 year old which says a lot. The salon itself was very nice, the reception we got was warm and welcoming and the atmosphere was perfect, we will definitely be returning. Plus to top off the experience we got a message from the salon a week later checking in to make sure we had a good experience, I loved the follow up (although I did forget to call them back I still liked the attempt on their end to check in).

When I showed up for my haircut the front desk had no record of my appointment, but said they could fit me in. When I asked for the stylist I was supposed to have had the haircut with, they told me she no longer worked there--why no one had bothered to tell me this when I made the appointment in the first place I have no idea.

Since I was already there I agreed to let another person cut my hair, after first discussing with her exactly what I wanted, and what I absolutely didn't want! She seemed to understand and expressed confidence that she could give me the cut I wanted, so I went ahead.

She ended up doing exactly what I said I didn't want, which was to give me very short layers. I had been growing my hair out and liking it, and I just wanted a little shaping and a trim, which I made VERY clear. I kept commenting that the layers seemed short, and she kept assuring me that she was barely taking anything off. I left unhappy, but figured I would give it some time and try styling it on my own. I also HATE complaining--I know it must be difficult working with the public, especially with something as personal as their hair.

I went home and washed and styled it on my own, and hated it! I gave it a day or two, but I was really unhappy--I felt that the shape was horrible, the short layer looked strange, and it was a high-maintenance cut. I like and request cuts that are easy and have nice shape without much work. This cut made my hair stick up in all sorts of strange cowlicks after sleeping on it, so that I had to wash it every day. Even then, I felt like I had to wear a headband or something to hide the badly shaped layers.

I finally got the nerve up to call back. I got the owner, who said ""Oh, I remember seeing those layers when you walked out,"" even before I told her who I was. I wondered why she hadn't said something that day, if she had noticed, or called me to see if I was happy, but I brushed that thought aside. She was very nice on the phone and apologetic, and told me she could fix anything and would fix the cut without charge. I was relieved, although somewhat doubtful that it could be fixed.

I washed and styled my hair that morning--maybe I shouldn't have--and I wore a headband as I had been every day since the cut. When I went in for the fix, the owner asked me what it was I didn't like, and told me she thought it looked cute and was a good cut. I always doubt myself in these situations, because I realize I don't know much about hair cuts and styling--I only know when I'm happy with a cut and when I'm not. So I felt embarrassed, like I had to defend why I was coming back. I explained that it was not what I had asked for, and that I didn't like the short, thick, chunky layer on top of the thin, long hair left underneath--almost like a mullet! She kept telling me it was a good cut for me, but that it just needed a little fixing. A little fixing meant about 2 minutes of clipping the tiniest bit. And then she was done and told me how good it looked. So I left, feeling embarrassed and like I'd wasted her time. But I couldn't see that she'd done anything--I'm still left with the same cut that I hate. I haven't had a cut that left me feeling this bad about my hair since I was in high school and got a $5 hair cut! I'm a full-time student living off of loans, so that money is gone and I can't afford to go somewhere else to fix it. All I can do is wait for it to grow out and never go back.

I feel guilty writing such a negative review--it is not my style, but I feel that I was not listened to.

To wrap up my point. I love my lashes and my waxing was great! I think that if this salon had issues in the past they are long gone now. This staff has a sense of unity and genuine kindness. It felt like they truly all get along. They are warm and inviting and they had nothing but great things to say about the owners.

I model locally and I came to Kalista for a quick hair cut and they did an amazing job!!

I had some time to kill before my train left, so wandered around the Pearl and ended up at Kalista to get my eyebrows done. There were 3 people working that I saw and they were so nice! All of them were very friendly, I felt incredibly welcome. The atmosphere was relaxing and pleasant as well. Brianna did my eyebrows, and I was out of there in 5 minutes. She did a great job- exactly what I was hoping for, and totally quick and painless.I love it! I am checking out their reasonably priced service list to see what I want the next time I return!

I have been going to Kalista for several years. I have had most of the services done that they provide so far. I have always loved at how hard they try to make people feel amazing when they leave with out trying to over sell them. I find that people need to be more positive these days about things as we are in a time that the world is not kind... So be kind to yourself and others and support local businesses as they are what are struggling the hardest. Yes I was asked to write a review for Kalista and was glad to do so... I love Kim and I love how she does her business. She is an amazing person.. I've known her now for 3 years and owning a business is hard but she keeps her head up!!! Keep doing what you do! You all are amazing!!

I got my hair, brow tint, brow wax, and facial done there last week. Kim is the best stylist I ever had before. My brow tint, brow wax and facial were done by another lady. They both are very nice and have provided good and practical services for me. I love my new hair style. My skin is a lot softer and smooth after the 45min facial. The brow tint and brow wax do give my face more definition. It's good to feel and look vibrant and younger.
After 2 days, they did call me to follow up for my skin to make sure the facial treatment is taking good effect on me. They do have lots of new faces who are very friendly, educated, and professional. My overall experience is very good. I will definitely go back there for my next service.

I booked an appointment which and they still made me wait over 20minutes, then played it off like I was behind schedule once I got started. The service was mediocre but to top it off the the staff at the front counter was quite rude. I would not go back...

I usually have the hardest time getting red out of my hair and have been to the best hair dressers in the country.. I've paid 350.00 for a hair cut at one point.. But I came to Kalista and got the perfect color and cut I've ever had... I am never leaving this place!!

I decided to try Kalista for there massages because one of my best friends went with her husband and she could not stop raving about how amazing the therapist was that she had.. And she was soooo right!! love this place and love the location! Keep being amazing Kalista.. I'm coming back soon..

I get my hair done by the owner and she always makes 100% effort to give me the best service she can. My person was there. But a hair dresser didn't show. So instead of just doing my waxing first they told me I had to wait until that lady for her hair done. Even though my app was first. Just stay away from this place. They used to be awesome not so much now. I would find a place that cares.

I'm so embarrassed I brought my cousin here. We had booked massages and the staff were really rude. My cousin didn't get the massage she had booked in the appt and instead received a different style than she was expecting. Overall though the staff were very catty and were gossiping at the counter the whole time. I would not go back.
