I needed to find a new stylist as my old one is too far to drive, so I did a quick search and came across Kalista's. After reading multiple excellent reviews I made an appointment. I was a bit hesitant to try someone new because I have definitely had bad experiences, but Kelly was fantastic. I will be back.

In February I made my first visit to Kalista spa and had the bundle lashes put on for a Vegas trip. I told the lady doing it that this was a special trip and whatever she did, I loved my lashes and they actually stayed on for just over a month!! I was so impressed that I made another appointment for another set of bundles. This time around though, they begun falling off by the following day and I had to find time in my busy schedule to go in 2 days later for repair. Within 2 days, more started to fall off, leaving big bare gaps in my lash pattern. Between my hectic work schedule and their full schedule it has been a struggle getting an appointment. Today I spoke to apparently the manager and she could have not been more unsympathetic or apologetic towards my situation and kept telling me that they would need to charge me for a maintenance job despite the fact that I'm coming in to have THEIR mistakes fixed. Then she says that the bundles can last anywhere from 3 days to a month. EXCUSE ME?? The web site does NOT state this short of a time and this is the first I have heard of them lasting so short.\r
I'm going to go in ONE MOE TIME for lash repairs as I feel like an idiot the way my lashes look. I'll update after my appointment. \r

I didn't even bother going back to Kalista after how rude the manager was to me. I went to Edward Wadsworth and had bundle lashes put on. She was detailed, took her time, was professional and these babies look natural and are on their GOOD!!

This is the WORST salon I have EVER been to! All of these reviews are written by the owner which she admits to on her blog. Do a search on the other major review site and you will see the REAL reviews. That site does NOT let the same ip post over and over...like this one does.
I went in for eyelash extensions and they looked HORRIBLE. THEY USE PLASTIC FAKE LOOKING LASHES. As one reviewer said it looks like long plastic pubic hairs.
But that is besides the point..they fell out in 24 hours and they refused a refund and hung up on me. They just said they never give refunds, no matter how bad the situation. I went there on valentines day and the whole salon was totally dead. The eyelash extension lady told me she learned it on youtube. The manager christina just hung up when I said I wanted a refund. No effort at all to work it out. She totally laughed at me. This whole experience was awful. STAY AWAY.

Long and short of it: Bad customer service, bad style, bad information, incomplete services, rude, smells like crap inside.

I bought the Groupon for Kalista because I needed a quick color touch up and trim before Christmas. I tried to make an appointment through text and had spotty responses over 3 hours worth of time. I tried calling, but I got the answering machine over and over again. Finally someone responded and said I could come in in 5 minutes. Really? 5 minutes? I happen to live close so I made it in 15... and saw a completely empty salon with several workers standing around.

My stylist was clearly annoyed that I had a Groupon. When she found out I had used a box dye on my hair, she looked disgusted and said I had to reschedule because ""using their professional products will interact badly with the dye and can burn off hair."" Huh. I have used box dyes/professional dyes for years with no bad interactions. Feeling a little wary, I waited while she went to the back. When she came back, without a word, she started applying dye to my hair. WHAT? ARE YOU GOING TO BURN MY HAIR OFF? Apparently not. She globbed dye all over me- and my neck and my forehead and my arms...

She was SO ROUGH with my head. I have a tough head, so NBD, but good lord. She was whacking at my head like crazy. I literally had a sore neck the next day because she was so rough. No reason for her to be like that.

I had to fill my meter and she said ""Well, I guess for a $40 Groupon it's not worth a parking ticket"".... Hmmm. No. Nothing is worth a parking ticket. Let me go fill my meter, for crying out loud.

Once she finished with my color, she shampooed me (roughly) and then said, ""So, you just want a trim, right?"" Which, luckily I did, but the Groupon was for a full cut. Regardless, she trimmed my very long hair for about 5 minutes and then said ""Do you want any products?"" and when I responded ""no,"" she took off to the back and left me standing, dripping wet, by her station. I just kind of walked out, not sure if the transaction had been completed. The Groupon included a style, but I wasn't about to argue.

The next day, I checked out my hair, and there are still about 300 split ends on my head. Long, nasty split ends.

Kalista blows. Don't go here. They have a Groupon every week for a reason.

Based on the reviews I was sceptical but I was willing to give Kalista a try. To my surpise I was greeted by a very nice and welcoming receptionist who offered me some tea, they had a fantastic variety to chose from. The entire expierence exceeded my expectations and I would definantly refer you to kive Kalista a try too. Stephanie was great and gave an amazing facial. The only thing that could be improved next time is the wait was about 10 min.

I heard of Kalista through Groupon. I purchased the Kerotin deal because i wanted to try to get rid of my frizz. From the moment I walked into the door, I was greeted with a smile and great customer service. Everybody was very nice and friendly. I was a little nervous about trying a new salon but I definently felt at ease. The stylist was very good with making sure I knew what she was doing to my hair. I read through the other reviews on here and I hope that people go in and have their own experience for their selves. Its really a great place with great staff and a relaxing yet trendy environment.

Came to Kalista for the first time to get a facial and the girl that did the facial was so sweet and knowledgeable. The front desk girls were really sweet and helpful as well. I loved my facial and will for sure be back!

I came in thinking this place would not be what I expected. The reviews on this site are pretty harsh considering these girls are really trying there best and it really shows, they have such a warm friendly atmosphere and you can really tell they are close, everyone I personally encountered had wonderful things to say about each other and the owner. I Love my hair and my facial. The girl that did my straightening was so friendly and attentive and really seemed as she knew what she was doing, and the facial was amazing as well. My hope is that people start giving this place the attention it deserves and take the time to visit them. This is forever my new salon. Thank you Kalista!!

I'm have been using Kalista Salon for many years and I am never disappointed. Kim, the owner truly cares about her clients needs and wants. The staff and atmosphere is very welcoming. I am always proud to say, when other women come up to me and comment how fabulous my hair looks, that I have to give all the credit to my hair stylist. Thanks Kim!

I'm using Kalista Salon for over 5 years. I thought my former NYC 5th Avenue Salon would be tough to beat, but Kalista is better on many levels: The staff is always friendly, atmosphere is relaxed the moment you step in, and discreet care is given for when my extensions get done. The owner, Kim, truly cares about client's needs, both mentally & physically. My hair (mostly not growing from my head) has never looked better. The prices are fair and reasonable, and the products used are always top quality (including the hair used for extensions/wigs). I've also experienced only the very best massages and facials. Also had my make-up done there and I LOVED the look. They even took the time to teach me how to do it. Kalista has a way of keeping the staff at a top quality. I've been meaning to write a positive review for years. It's always those with a complaint who take the time to write the strongest and nastiest, isn't it? I highly recommend the salon.

Everyone there is so nice- from the minute you walk in the door to when you leave feeling fabulous! Their location is beautiful and I have been happy with all the services I have had there. I normally don't write reviews but after my last and final visit to Kalista I had to. I'd gone to Kalista a few times the first 2/3 times were really good and I had a really nice experiene. However the last few times I went the service and the quality of the job keeps going down and the last time.\r

I had a groupon for a mani/pedi and since it was my birthday I wanted an additional treat so I decided to book a facial, that was booked on and off multiple times and they ended up cancelling it all together because they said the girl called in sick. The mani/pedi experience was horrible, it was like an assembly line. The job was really bad my manicure came off the first day (by the way that happened the last two times) and my pedicure came off pretty quickly. Bottom line the service is HORRIBLE and the quality of the work is so so. I for sure won't be going back!

**DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON IF YOU WANT QUALITY HAIR OR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!** I went in for a facial that I purchased off of Groupon... I needed my hair done and figured I would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. So I decided to get my hair done too... I had Platinum blonde hair with a couple of light brown streaks, I asked if she could put a Black cherry foils in it. she said it would work just fine.....BAD mistake... not only did she over process my hair but I left with PINK hair and balling my eyes out! They didn't know how to fix it,... I asked to talk to the owner not just once but twice... SHE REFUSED TO TALK TO ME!! I plan to talk to an attorney because my hair is falling out.... literally!!

A friend and I recently had a Mani/Pedi done there and the nail estheticians seemed very inexperienced. Cuticles not even trimmed for the manicure, the polish was uneven and came off in less than 48 hours for both me and my friend. The final product looked like something you could do by yourself at home. It was not salon quality at all. I've never had a nail treatment that poorly done. Sorry, but this is a place I will not be visiting again. :-(

I was scheduled for an antiaging facial. My experience started with being called 2x and reminded to not be late and that if I was it would cut into my appointment time. I was early to my appointment and greeted by an incredibly rude staff who were too busy online and on the phone to pay anyone any attention. My esthetician was 20 min late and never even apologized. I was never asked if it would be ok to be in a shared room with another client. Upon arrival I was told to hop on the table fully clothed (with shoes) and never offered a robe. Just wondering how they do a decolletage massage on someone with a top on? After I asked for a robe I was told to just take my top off and climb under the covers in front of my esthetician another esthetician and her client. The facial was horrible, I was never told what products were being used, the esthetician did not use enough product during cleansing and exfoliation and it was super dry and I felt as if she were about to pull my face off. I was not offered pillows or covers for my eyes while the mask was placed and I had no final moisturizer placed on my skin. I left and pretty much had to apply my own moisturizer that I carry with me. All and all not worth it and extremely unprofessional and downright rude.

I waited several weeks to write this review in an attempt to be as unbiased as possible... it didn't help.

The staff accused me and a friend of showing up late and ""messing up"" their appointments for the rest of the night, even though I called to verify our appointment earlier in the day AND showed up 10 minutes early. I would have left right then if I knew what I was in for!

God help you if you get Helen as your mani/pedi specialist. She aired her grievances about working for Kalista, telling us that all of the supplies they used were ""so crappy"". When I picked out my color, she rolled her eyes and said ""ugh, you would go with the most popular color"". What the hell?

What was supposed to be a 60 minute pedicure and 40 minute manicure only took 60 minutes TOTAL. Helen gave me a half-assed manicure (to go with my terrible pedicure) and then left to go to lunch - without telling me. I sat there for about 10 minutes before realizing that she wasn't coming back. The best part was that I had nail polish all over my finger tips, not just on my nails. It was so bad that another staff member offered to repaint my nails for me. I did get most of the nail polish off of my actual fingers before leaving. Not that it would have mattered since all of the polish was off within 48 hours of my visit.

This placed is beyond terrible.

I went to Kalista a few days ago and just have to say that I was HIGHLY disappointed in the service that I received. It was, by far, the worst pedi/mani I've ever had (I get pedicures quite often so feel like I can honestly compare this one to others). Even though I had a scheduled appt, I waited over 30 minutes -- the pedicure left everything to be desired (i.e., my feet and toes looked better before I arrived than when I left) -- and the manicure was nothing that I couldn't have easily done at home. There was absolutely nothing special about any of these services -- they were downright horrible. I will never visit this spa again and encourage others to look elsewhere.

Took my besty here for dual-pedi's on her birthday. . .\r
The salong was oddly dead on a Saturday at 1pm for supposedly being the ""best""\r
The 2 owners were very nice but made us wait for 25 minutes in the front of the salon before taking us back to get pedi's. At once point they asked us ""like do you want some water or wine or whatever?"" When they took us back, the owner Kim (who was wearing such a low cut shirt I could almost see WAY more than just her cleavage) said to my best friend on her birthday ""oh my gosh how funny - I totally kept looking at you from my station thinking that you were like 13 years old and I couldn't remember having any teeny bopper clients today."" We are both 31, so that was a strange thing to say. . .I think she was trying to be friendly?\r
When we went back to the foot soak area, our water was cold and we sat in our cold foot soak for THIRTY minutes before they started our pedicure, there were electrical cords everywhere and instead of our own seats, we were squished together on a small loveseat. The owner Kim could not find her own set of pedicure tools, so she proceded to start using my best friends toe-nail file on me and other used tools! I said ""uuum, I can wait"" and Kim replied ""oh god, seriously? She's your best friend you don't care. You guys share everything I'm sure."" The woman who was doing my best friends pedicure rolled her eyes at the owner and said ""that's not very hygenic"" but Kim ignored her. Then, some plumbing/electrical guy came in asking about something that needed to be fixed - interupting our awful pedicure. The owner was so unprofessional replying loudly to him ""Uum, seriously? You're gonna ask me about this now?"" When he walked away she said the ""F"" word a couple times. I'm no verbal saint myself, but IN A SPA??? NOT PROFESSIONAL!! NOT RELAXING!\r
I really could go on, but it was the worst pedicure I've ever had and the massage was a waste and the attire and the conversation was not professional. I did politely complain about having to wait 25 minutes to be seen and then sitting in cold water for another 30 minutes and they offered me 10% off my bill, which they never actually credited me. \r
It was the most awkward, unprofessional experience I've ever had. \r
I'm sorry to say that. . .I should have realized something was up when I read the statement the owner makes on her website about ""people who lie"" and all of that. It's a strange and really unprofessional statement to make on a spa website. \r

I took my 15 year old daughter to the salon to get feathers in her hair and booked a pedicure for myself. I forgot the name of the person who did the feathers but she did an excellent job and my daughter was very happy with the results. Adele did my pedicure and she was spectacular, she managed to paint lady bugs on my toes which were so cute but the best part was her personality. She was outgoing, friendly, engaging and she was able to converse with not just myself but my usually shy 15 year old which says a lot. The salon itself was very nice, the reception we got was warm and welcoming and the atmosphere was perfect, we will definitely be returning. Plus to top off the experience we got a message from the salon a week later checking in to make sure we had a good experience, I loved the follow up (although I did forget to call them back I still liked the attempt on their end to check in).

A girlfriend and I wanted to find some where in Portland to get a relaxing pedi, not a rush in and out and we found it!\r

First we were impressed that they offered in their menu a ""Sisterpedicure"" that was a side by side treatment for two. This sounded perfect for us. \r

Upon arrival at the salon (which is decorated in a lovely sort of exotic urban chic), we were greeted by a very friendly, yet professional receptionist who setlled us in the with cups of hot tea of our choice while we waited briefly for our appointment.\r

Alana greeted us and led us back to the pedicure area that had fabulous glass bowls filled with steaming fragrant water and sparkiling marbles to massage our feet. She proceeded to give us wonderful pedicures complete with polish application while the receptionist refilled our cups and asked us if we wanted anything else. Overall, the experience took around 90 minutes. No rush at all.\r

We look forward visiting again, maybe treat ourselves to a facial or massage next time. \r

Several months ago I had a haircut that I really liked here, so I rescheduled another with the same stylist--or so I thought. I made the appointment online, specifically requesting the stylist I had last time by name, and the appointment was confirmed (online).

When I showed up for my haircut the front desk had no record of my appointment, but said they could fit me in. When I asked for the stylist I was supposed to have had the haircut with, they told me she no longer worked there--why no one had bothered to tell me this when I made the appointment in the first place I have no idea.

Since I was already there I agreed to let another person cut my hair, after first discussing with her exactly what I wanted, and what I absolutely didn't want! She seemed to understand and expressed confidence that she could give me the cut I wanted, so I went ahead.

She ended up doing exactly what I said I didn't want, which was to give me very short layers. I had been growing my hair out and liking it, and I just wanted a little shaping and a trim, which I made VERY clear. I kept commenting that the layers seemed short, and she kept assuring me that she was barely taking anything off. I left unhappy, but figured I would give it some time and try styling it on my own. I also HATE complaining--I know it must be difficult working with the public, especially with something as personal as their hair.

I went home and washed and styled it on my own, and hated it! I gave it a day or two, but I was really unhappy--I felt that the shape was horrible, the short layer looked strange, and it was a high-maintenance cut. I like and request cuts that are easy and have nice shape without much work. This cut made my hair stick up in all sorts of strange cowlicks after sleeping on it, so that I had to wash it every day. Even then, I felt like I had to wear a headband or something to hide the badly shaped layers.

I finally got the nerve up to call back. I got the owner, who said ""Oh, I remember seeing those layers when you walked out,"" even before I told her who I was. I wondered why she hadn't said something that day, if she had noticed, or called me to see if I was happy, but I brushed that thought aside. She was very nice on the phone and apologetic, and told me she could fix anything and would fix the cut without charge. I was relieved, although somewhat doubtful that it could be fixed.

I washed and styled my hair that morning--maybe I shouldn't have--and I wore a headband as I had been every day since the cut. When I went in for the fix, the owner asked me what it was I didn't like, and told me she thought it looked cute and was a good cut. I always doubt myself in these situations, because I realize I don't know much about hair cuts and styling--I only know when I'm happy with a cut and when I'm not. So I felt embarrassed, like I had to defend why I was coming back. I explained that it was not what I had asked for, and that I didn't like the short, thick, chunky layer on top of the thin, long hair left underneath--almost like a mullet! She kept telling me it was a good cut for me, but that it just needed a little fixing. A little fixing meant about 2 minutes of clipping the tiniest bit. And then she was done and told me how good it looked. So I left, feeling embarrassed and like I'd wasted her time. But I couldn't see that she'd done anything--I'm still left with the same cut that I hate. I haven't had a cut that left me feeling this bad about my hair since I was in high school and got a $5 hair cut! I'm a full-time student living off of loans, so that money is gone and I can't afford to go somewhere else to fix it. All I can do is wait for it to grow out and never go back.

I feel guilty writing such a negative review--it is not my style, but I feel that I was not listened to.

i came here for a relaxation massage, and i am so glad that i did. i get a lot of massages, and they are not all as good as the one I got from Sarah at Kalista. it helped me let go of the tension i was carrying in my back and neck. my low back pain is significantly better. She didn't talk to much, but instead listened to what I wanted, and helped me relax.

A friendly, local, very accessible salon. I can always get an appointment at short notice as the receptionists are always helpful and accommodating with timeframes.
The products are amazing,
It's very spacious and comfortable. I often fall asleep during the facials and look forward to it as a wonderful weekend treat. It's become part of my schedule.

I chose this spa to make an appointment for a massage because it is close to work. I was able to make an appointment for the next day, even at lunch hour. The massage was so relaxing, I fell asleep. The lady giving the massage also did some stuff that helped with my headaches. I haven't had one since I went in! I went back to work feeling like a new person! I would recommend Kalista. I will be back soon.

so ...this place was recommended to me by a friend. lets just say I paid $65 for 10 minutes of service. I got a trim, she didnt wash my hair, nor did she style it. I felt like she was doing me a favor by performing the services. To be fair she is good at what she does, although she made my bangs uneven (even tho I asked for straight) my boyfriend liked the uneven messy look, but that wasnt what I asked for.
and seriously, I know they are in downtown, but $65 for literally 10 minutes of her giving me an ok haircut?

I read all the reviews and really debated. Should I or shouldn't I, So I decided I should check them out.. considering the reviews where so extreme. Here is my experience. First I expected that the receptionists would be terrible based on the reviews, but they where wonderful and nice, very cheery and helpful. Then I wondered how my service technician would be. She came out from the back and greeted me with a huge smile then took the paper I had filled out and began to go over what I had written down. She took me back to the spa area and explained how I needed to get prepared for my service. Oh I was getting some waxing and lashes. When she left I looked around the room. It was spotless clean, warm and lit just right. She came in and made me feel very comfortable.

To wrap up my point. I love my lashes and my waxing was great! I think that if this salon had issues in the past they are long gone now. This staff has a sense of unity and genuine kindness. It felt like they truly all get along. They are warm and inviting and they had nothing but great things to say about the owners.

I would highly recommend this salon to anyone! I for sure will be back.

I just moved to the area and I was a little nervous finding a new place that could cut hair pretty well. I found Kalista Salon by using Google so I decided to give them a try.
When I called I asked the lady on the phone if they had anyone that was known for cutting asian, she assured me that Brianna was a perfect choice.
The location great, with street parking located right in front of the building, the Salon is set up really nice and has a great atmosphere.
Brianna was great, she cut my hair real quick and asked me for my opinion seeing as to it was my first time there. She made for great conversation, and the prices here are pretty good. I'll be coming back again!

I went to this salon since the last salon i was at had horrible customer service and they didnt know how to keep my hair from turning brassy! I came to Kalista because they where all over the internet for Hair extensions... I have suffered from spots of thinning hair from having problems with my thyroid. I had lost all hopes for thick or even long hair, when I came in Kim was so informative with all my options... And apparently I had alot to choose from.. I thought I had non.. Anyway she did hair extensions with a hairsystem on me and I am a whole other person... I just can not stop looking at myself in the mirror!!!! THANK YOU KIMBERLY... You are my dream come true!!! To who ever is in need of a ""I deserve it"" ""Make me feel beautiful day"" this is the place to go!
I have gone back to this spa and will keep going. I have had wonderful haricuts - highlights and even an up-do (for a wedding) done there. Each was done by someone not only personal but when or if I wanted to just sit and enjoy - the quite was allowed and welcomed - as were conversations about the life of Cosmo and People.
The spa has been enjoyed by not only me, but my boyfriend as well - who loved it and walked out completely revived. I can't wait to go back and allow myself to give myself the gift of relaxation and rejuvenation.
This place has Happy Hour!!!! (No, I do not mean beer and finger food!) BUT for spa treatments. This is a must try experience - it is not only better than a beer or finger food but it is actually good for you!

I went to Kalista on a whim and had an excellent experience. The staff was very personable and on point. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted by a hip-young receptionist who seemed genuine in making sure I was taken care of. I was in search of a quick cut, which I must say was excellent (they even gave it a quick shampoo and rinse to rid of excess hair). Then in conversation with my stylist I came to know that they offered full spa services as well, with this I could not resist getting a massage, which in itself was amazing. I recommend Kalista to anyone looking for great service, a great atmosphere and a location that offers all the services you can imagine! Super convenient for anyone in Portlands downtown and well worth the travel for anyone outside of Portland looking for a great experience.

I started going to Kalista for a thermal conditioning and, I admit, they started off doing a good job... however, over time, it wasn't looking as good and the service went down the tube. First, thermal conditioning isn't cheap (I think I was paying around $400)... the last time I went, the girl that was doing my hair had to leave (had a date), so she gave me to another girl to finish who was working on another client. Eventually, she washed my hair and told me I was done (never finished it). So, I left with my hair wet and $400 poorer. Never again. I found a GREAT place in Beaverton that does amazing thermal condition for $250 and always finishes what she starts.

I had some time to kill before my train left, so wandered around the Pearl and ended up at Kalista to get my eyebrows done. There were 3 people working that I saw and they were so nice! All of them were very friendly, I felt incredibly welcome. The atmosphere was relaxing and pleasant as well. Brianna did my eyebrows, and I was out of there in 5 minutes. She did a great job- exactly what I was hoping for, and totally quick and painless.I love it! I am checking out their reasonably priced service list to see what I want the next time I return!

I have always loved at how hard they try to make people feel amazing when they leave with out trying to over sell them. I find that people need to be more positive these days about things as we are in a time that the world is not kind... So be kind to yourself and others and support local businesses as they are what are struggling the hardest. Yes I was asked to write a review for Kalista and was glad to do so... I got my hair, brow tint, brow wax, and facial done there last week. Kim is the best stylist I ever had before. My brow tint, brow wax and facial were done by another lady. They both are very nice and have provided good and practical services for me. I love my new hair style. My skin is a lot softer and smooth after the 45min facial. The brow tint and brow wax do give my face more definition. It's good to feel and look vibrant and younger.
After 2 days, they did call me to follow up for my skin to make sure the facial treatment is taking good effect on me. They do have lots of new faces who are very friendly, educated, and professional. My overall experience is very good. I will definitely go back there for my next service.

I get my hair done by the owner and she always makes 100% effort to give me the best service she can. She asked the massage therapist to give me a quick massage while i waited this last time I was in... she talks highly of all her staff and supports causes I personally love... This place is amazing!! I wish people would recognize that their are indeed business that deserve critisism but people like Kalista really try to help people.... \r

I used to love this place.... USED TOO!! the last two times I went they gave my app away to a walk in so I had to wait 30mins past my app time. This time I just walked out. I had a waxing app at 10. My person was there. But a hair dresser didn't show. So instead of just doing my waxing first they told me I had to wait until that lady for her hair done. Even though my app was first. I'm so embarrassed I brought my cousin here. We had booked massages and the staff were really rude. Tried to surprise a friend by going here, completely embarrassed to even have suggested it. The receptionist had a really hard time booking us, then they cancelled one of our services upon arriving. Then upon completion they overcharged us. When I called later, the staff denied to management what happened and we were never refunded. I first went to Kalista after my previous stylist burned my head with bleach! Needless to say I was very nervous about seeing someone new and unknown after this tramatic experience, but the stylists at Kalista knew exactly what they were doing. I've since been to several of the stylists there, and they've all done fantastic work every time. Their new space by in the Pearl is really spacious and sleek; it's such a relaxing atmosphere. Kalista also has super great specials throughout the month, and they offer a variety of services as well. I've also had bundle lashes put on a couple times and they're beautiful--I'm so addicted!! Whenever a friend asks me to recommend a great salon, I always send them to Kalista.

Kalista is such a solid salon. The lack of stuffiness is so refreshing. Josiah cut my hair and took such care in making sure it was just right. For the price you don't get the service you should. I had an e-mail for 25% off services but forgot to mention it at my appointment. That was my fault for making assumptions but when I realized the mistake I e-mailed the salon asking if it was possible to get a discount on a future appointment and they said no. They said you have to mention the deal before you check out (even though it never said that in the e-mail and I thought it would be applied automatically). With all the salons available in Portland you can go somewhere else and get better pampering and customer service for less. \r

My stylist was good but the rest of the staff was inattentive and they were discussing a lot of business issues out in the open. Not the thing that you'd like to relax to.

For the price you don't get the service you should. My stylist was professional but the rest of the staff wasn't. I didn't get the advertised rate and the combination of a cut and color touch up was ridiculous for the actual quality. I was happy with the cut and root touch up in general but for over $100 I would expect a little more attention and ambiance.

Here is my story-
My boyfriend got me a massage just for the fun of it. He called in before and had everything set up. I walked in waited, filled out a form and it said what are you getting today and I said ""I have no idea it was a surprise from my boyfriend"" I go back and get the massage and the guy told me I was getting a deep tissue (not what my boyfriend had set up) so I was like, ok cool I don't know the differences between any of them. So I am going to leave and realized my boyfriend didn't leave his card number and was at work so I paid and knew he would pay me back since this was a special present. I paid 100 bucks and tipped 10 and got back into my care to call him and thank him for the surprise. I told him at the same time he owed me 110 and he freaked out saying no i specifically told them I got you the 65 dollar one.
So I went back in to tell them that and the MANAGER started blaming it on me like I told the guy I wanted one that was higher up. She looked at what my boyfriend had called in and instead of blaming the massage man she blamed ME...I told her to go get the paper I wrote on and I have proof I had no Idea what I was getting. I made her void the transaction tip and all for what she charged me and any sane manager would actually do something special for the mix up and blaming the customer. Nope she slammed the paper and pen down and was so rude that I couldn't even speak. Well I blame her instead of the guy that gave me a massage so thats why I didn't tip a penny. When my boyfriend called back she was always ""busy"" or doing something else more important than speaking with an unsatisfied customer. All my boyfriend wanted to tell her was he was really disappointed that he booked a nice surprise there and they ruined everything by causing more stress.

So one day I had called to talk to her and they asked what it was regarding. Call me whatever you want but I wanted to see if they were liars..I was standing outside watching while all of this was going on...the manager was not busy. She is just a horrible manager that doesn't get it and is trying to con people into going their by having her employees write ""kalista is awesome"" reviews all day long instead of actually being nice and assisting the costumers. I do not recommend this place unless you like to be lied to in front of your face and blamed as well.
Go somewhere else...even supercuts is better than this place...no joke!
P.S. who seriously blames the customer when there is proof right in front of them ( people that have no idea and shouldn't be running a business)

I had been going to Kalista for a few years, and although I enjoyed my haircuts at first, the owner was always extremely unprofessional. A while back, there was a huge staffing change. The new stylists that came in were all terrible. I had to go back and get every cut fixed. But the owner is what finalized my decision to not go back to that place. Every time I was in, she would talk about the trashiest subjects, gossip about her employees and customers, discuss private business in front of customers and basically, just act extremely trashy.

Sarah greeted me with a friendly smile, and then really took the time to talk to me about my struggles of my hair. She then went on to give me a great cut. I am SOOO happy. I have been to so many people that have butchered my hair, and Sarah did such a great job. We then talked about color and she had some fun ideas to do. I can't wait for my color appointment!\r

ANY GOOD REPORTS FROM KALISTA ARE FROM THE CRAZY HIPPY OWNER. Kalista salon took 7 hours to try to fix my ruined hair. The salon boasts of vegan colors and organics but my ""master stylist"" knew nothing about these colors and said it was a gimic. She dyed my dark brown hair with streaks of blond and took 7 hours to fix it. She managed to turn it a shoe polish dark brown and still couldn't cover the blond in places. I asked for a manager to oversee it but they said she was the only person on staff.
I called many times only to be treated badly and the owner stated she wouldn't speak to me AT ALL. In business you must admit faults and try to correct them to stay in business. I give this salon another month and then I think they'll be out of biz. HORRIBLE place...beware.

I moved to Portland and had trouble finding a salon. I decided to go on city search and saw all the 5 star reviews. I had my hair cut and colored...I ended up having to cut my hair at least 8 inches in order to get it to look right since the stylist did such a chop job. The coloring was terrible and it looked copper colored instead of light brown. I had the services done awhile ago but I am still mad at myself for going to this salon. Please go off of a recommedation from a friend vs. looking at the good reviews about this salon/spa.

I called on a Wednesday and was able to get appointments for me, my mother and 5 year old daughter on the following Saturday afternoon. This was my daughter's first pedicure and when I told the person who booked the appointment they said they wouldn't charge as much because she was so young and it wouldn't take very long. Such a reasonable perspective! \r

The manicures and pedicures were all in the fair range but the people were really nice and friendly and so I was feeling like it was an overall fine experience since they were so accommodating to my diabetic mom and 5 year old daughter. (I will continue to refer to her age throughout this review because it has bearing on our experience.)\r

On a lark, I had the foot detox treatment. I had read about it elsewhere and I thought it would be interesting. I still did it even though no one there could explain to me what it supposedly did other than sound bytes like, ""it makes you feel lighter! and detoxified! and ready to go!!!!"" When I asked more probing questions they handed me 2 well worn print outs of ""facts"" about the questionable practice. I still did it...score first point against me.\r

Here's the thing about my experience: They did my pedicure first and then stuck me in the detox bath for 30 minutes. Then I had to wait for 20 minutes for someone to take my feet out of the dark red, fetid, congealing water to complete the polish. Of course, like any sub-par salon the lighting is so low that I didn't know until I got home that all of my toes had dry skin hanging off them from sitting in water for nearly and hour. And to complete the look, the bottoms of my feet and heels were stained red. Super pretty! Point 2 against me.\r

Now onto the really good part. My daughter didn't like the leg masks and scrubs they used so they slapped it on and washed it off in less than a minute. Scrubbing her little, non-callused feet was too tickly so she asked them to stop. So here pedicure was all of 10-15 minutes, most of which was polish time. Since it was her first trip, she asked for flowers as well and I agreed even though they charged $2 per digit for the work -- which ended up being terrible. \r

On to the manicure for the 5 year old. Since she didn't want the ""extras"" (scrub and mask) the technician said, ""Mom, since she doesn't want those things is it ok if I change her to a regular mani?"" But of course! Why would I disagree? \r

Here's why I should have disagreed: By adjusting the service for my 5 year old, it meant rather than a deluxe combo (which was never articulated to me, by the way), it meant she received a deluxe pedicure and a spa manicure which are priced separately. So the mani/pedi for the 5 year old came to $79.00. That is not a typo people. My daughter's services cost more than my 62 year old mother's, which took twice the amount of time. \r

And what of the discount for her being so young and taking little time? They claim no knowledge of that and after I voiced my dismay they gave me a WHOPPING 10% off my daughter's services. So instead of $79, I was charged $72 for a mani/pedi for a 5 year old. \r

I'm still appalled by the entire experience. And to top it off we were using gift certificates so I can't even dispute the charges. I wish I would have read the reviews first; I usually do and this is a great reminder of why. Oh, and those poor flowers that my daughter asked for? She wanted tulips and obviously the technician has no idea what a tulip is because she came out with daisies. Ugly daisies. Bad, bad, bad experience. For the love of tulips, don't frequent this business.

And what of the discount for her being so young and taking little time? They claim no knowledge of that and after I voiced my dismay they gave me a WHOPPING 10% off my daughter's services. So instead of $79, I was charged $72 for a mani/pedi for a 5 year old.

I'm still appalled by the entire experience. And to top it off we were using gift certificates so I can't even dispute the charges. I wish I would have read the reviews first; I usually do and this is a great reminder of why. Oh, and those poor flowers that my daughter asked for? She wanted tulips and obviously the technician has no idea what a tulip is because she came out with daisies. Ugly daisies. Bad, bad, bad experience. For the love of tulips, don't frequent this business.

My daughter was visiting from out of state, arriving via train. Kalista Spa was very close to Union Station so I made a reservation for a treat to both of us- ""spa"" pedicures. I made the reservation weeks ahead of the date. When we arrived a scheduled glitch created the situation where the same person did both of our pedicures. So we waited for each other and I'm not sure how a spa pedicure differs from any other. We paid more for (?) Disappointed.

So called ""professionals"". I was screwed over by getting my hair done here. They told me one price at the beginning and then racked up my bill to 3 times that by the time I had to pay, which was utterly dishonest and extremely unprofessional. The guy that did my hair kept dropping the comb on the floor that he was using on my hair and kept continuing to use it without getting a clean one. Ewwww! The floor was covered in hair which was disgusting!! Ended up spending half the day at the salon which was ridiculous! Shows that the stylists don't know what they are doing! Who even comes here? The salon was almost totally empty the whole day even though it was a weekend!! No business must mean bad service which is what I found to be true at this salon. DON'T RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I called a couple of months ago to make an appointment I was surprised that my long time stylist was gone. In my experience at frequenting the old location, I saw a high turn over of talented and professional stylists. I see no reason to schedule any further appointments at Kalista. If the management cannot keep the staff happy in their jobs, then I will take my business elsewhere. Happy stylists = happy customers!!!

I'm not much of a salon person; I'm too busy most of the time, and have too many other things to do. Kalista has certainly changed my mind - I felt so pampered!

About a month ago, my sister gave me a foot detox to help prepare me for an upcoming surgery. I went in, was greeted and seated by the receptionist, and had a little wait - I was mostly waiting for my sister to arrive. I'm very sensitive to atmosphere, and I loved it there. The colors are earthy and relaxing, products are neatly displayed, and I got a kick out of listening to the receptionist answer the phone with ""Hello, Beautiful!"" It really sets the tone.

The manager, Ryan, gave me a brief tour before I went back for my detox. I loved the energy in the front, where they cut the hair - I don't know about you, but I hate having a cut where the stylist doesn't talk much. There was friendly conversation and banter, and it had a fun and energetic feel. The farther back I went, the more subdued and relaxing it became, which is perfect for the services offered there. The young lady who did my detox was wonderful - she made sure I was comfortable and that the water for the bath was the perfect temperature. I have to say that it's hard not to be comfortable in those big squashy chairs they use, and even the bowl for my feet was not what I expected - not a high-tech nasty plastic thing, but a pretty glass bowl with smooth pebbles at the bottom. A little thing, perhaps, but it adds an elegant nuance to a place that I am convinced is interested in relaxing and pampering both body and spirit. It was a really great experience, from the staff to the ambience to the quality of the service that I received.

The detox itself was great. I walked out of there with a spring in my step and felt refreshed and relaxed. I'm also almost a month post-op, and my progress has been remarkable. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone with health issues. Thanks to all at Kalista!

I came to Kalista last week in for a massage. I was a client at their old location and was not impressed by the staff and but had never been to the new location, so figured to give them another chance. \r

I came for a massage with Lucan my personal favorite, who has worked at both locations. I was so surprised at the new staff I could hardly believe it! \r
\r
The front desk girl was smiling and friendly she offered me a tour of their new salon! I had no idea they expanded their services and treatments and in my opinion have a much friendly and knowledgable staff... \r

The rooms were large and tidy and had beautiful decorations and lighting. She explained all of the services they offered and was funny and friendly.\r

The massage was wonderful just the right pressure and I was very relaxed.....It was great to see the LMT again.\r

I wanted my nails done by one of the nail technicians too. They were able to get me in because they called a staff memeber to come in! Talk about great customer service. I was offered some tea and waited for the technician to come. She arrived in only 20 mins! She did excellent work as well, My nails were beautiful and I was offered French polish which made me feel pretty.. \r

When I came out of the nail room the front desk girl, I think her name was Lucy informed me that we were now in the Happy Hour time frame and showed me a list of services that they offer at a discount. \r

I was sold and got my eyebrows waxed for $12, and got a set of beautiful bundle lashes for only $25 by a super sweet brown haired girl . My self esteem shot thru the roof and the staff did a great job making sure I was fully pampered. \r

I am glad they are under new management. The new staff really wants to serve the customers! This is a great new location to bring my friends and family to feel comfortable in the spa environment.\r

I was more than in need of getting a little ""Re-Charging"" time, so when I was given a Gift Certificate to Kalista, I knew I was due for a little bit of the Pamper-Me treatment. I had gone to them a year ago but never had gone back due to distance. Knowing I could definitely use some time to get away from the my life for a minute, I opted to call and was pleasantly surprised to see they were in the Pearl. \r
I arrived at the spa 1/2 hour early, looking far less than perfect but that didn't seem to hinder the staff from rushing to unlock the door and welcome me in. It was nothing short of a perfect day from that moment on. From listening to Scott( I think) answer the phone with that wonderful ""Hey Beautiful"" greeting, surely kept a smile on my face. I was greeted by the most amazing Massage Therapist I have ever encountered, Please Go Visit Lucan! I can't really explain it but it felt like the world was lifted off my shoulders by the time my swedish was over and then I was off to the infrared sauna! So Nice! \r
From there I was whisked away to my luxurious facial where I adored every moment of my time with Jessica. It was so delicate and relaxing. I hated for it to end but I felt and looked fabulous after!\r
It all came together when I was able to sit on the big comfy couches in the back and get my footsies pampered!\r
The attention to detail during the pedi was the best I have ever seen. That would have been enough to make my month but then around the corner comes Ryan, the one I spoke to over the phone, with a rose in hand. Just the simple thought to do something so sweet was above and beyond. The whole day was above and beyond in my opinion and I am happy to finally have found a place where the people are sincere, talented and there to treat you like royalty. \r
If anyone there is reading this, I would like to say Thank You for your amazing services and personalities. You will probably never know what this day has meant to me and why it means so much, just know that it does. I am already telling everyone I know to walk through your doors... I know I will be doing the same thing shortly as I have already booked another massage! \r

I have been going to Kalista for 5+ years for waxing and haircuts and even one massage. I really liked the woman who cut my hair, Amy, and she was the only reason that I kept going there. I hear that she no longer works there and I would never go back. The majority of my experiences at Kalista, outside of my haircuts, have been horrible. They are rude at the desk, they always keep you waiting, the girls who wax you smell like smoke, and the owner is just insane. She is always gossiping and talking trash about other people. She is loud, rude, and inappropriate. This lack of management is reflective in the staff's behavior and obvious high turnover rate. Kalista is riddled with drama and has no regard for the customer's experience. If you choose to go there, because it is cheap, then just expect cheap service, because that is what you will get.

I found Kalista last summer and loved the environment and the amazing staff. Got my Hair done by Amy and my facials/lashes by Kimmie and nails done by the other gals. Loved the location and the feel of the place. Everyone was very warm and inviting, the receptionist and the manager were also so sweet and proffesional. \r

Now since they moved to the pearl everything has completely gone downhill. There is practically no one there that made Kalista. I came in to visit Kimmie and she was amazing as usual, and upon checking out I wanted to book with Amy, but she isnt there anymore either. The place seemed cold and empty with a very un pleasant feeling. I heard,who I believe is the owner from their website, yapping loudly about something inappropriate for a business setting. \r

The owner must be doing something wrong for having such a high turnover rate for employees, and the fact they wont tell me where my favorite stylist went prompted me to write this review. If anyone knows where Amy is working now that would be wonderful!!

I have come here many times for haircuts, brow waxes, color, etc. I have also referred many friends to Kalista. I was willing to overlook the employees' usual brusqueness in the light of great happy hour prices and good haircuts. However, the pricing structure here is confusing, at best. I found a stylist whose work I LOVED and tried to book her for happy hour a few months later, only to be informed that she was now a ""senior stylist"" and no longer eligible for happy hour prices. Ok, I booked a haircut with somebody else for happy hour. However, I ended up not loving my haircut (not hating it either). It makes it so much better when you know your stylist! Anyway, every time I have tried to book the same person twice, I am informed that that person has moved up the scale and no longer does happy hour. Bummer.

But, this isn't the main reason I'm upset....my high-school aged sister came to visit me and I sent her to Kalista to get a happy hour haircut because of their usually great results. I also gave them my credit card number (which I felt slightly uncomfortable about, but it had to be done) so that they could charge it at the end of her haircut. A happy hour cut is $25. For some unknown reason, the receptionist charged her $50! My little sister did not know what to do, and just called me when she had made it home. So, I figured it was an honest mistake and called the salon, only to be informed that it was the receptionist's 1st week and a half there and she was sorry. I had to push to talk to a manager, who then said she would refund me the overcharged amount immediately and call me to confirm. Not only did she not call me back, but she only refunded me $10! $50 - $10 = $40, not $25. I have called back to fix this multiple times, but they have not rectified the problem or even apologized. I am very disappointed, and will not be going back to Kalista or referring any more business to them. Beware!

Saw on the website an hour-long Swedish massage for $60 during their Happy Hour Tues & Wed 2-4pm. Great. Made the appt. An hour later the receptionist called me to ask if I could move my appt. back to 3pm. OK. No problem.
Cut to day of massage. My masseuse, Sally, was terrific. The room was lovely and she gave a great massage. But when it came time to pay, the receptionist charged me the full amount of $75. I explained I was here for the Happy Hour price. She was friendly and nice but had to ask the Manager/Owners, who were two tall, tattooed (which I only use to describe them so they can recognize themselves; I love tattoos) blonde gals, one of them obnoxiously ranting loudly as I approached the front desk. She told the receptionist that since I finished my massage AFTER 4pm (it was 4:10pm) I would have to pay full price. Umm, hello?!? If I have a beer at Happy Hour prices any other place in the world, do you think they'll charge me full price if I FINISH the beer AFTER Happy Hour is over? What kind of ass-backwards logic is this? I didn't even argue this point but explained that I did originally have an appt. for 2pm but they themselves pushed it back an hour. The kindly brunette receptionist took care of me, after having to go back and forth between these two blonde, vulgar, blaring women heading the place but I had to sit there after what should be a relaxing experience and argue my point. These ladies will change the rules on you and not honor certain prices without a fight. They need to fire themselves.

I just wanted to say thank you to the entire staff at Kalista. I had never been there before and was unsure as what to expect from a salon in the Pearl...I had heard they were all quite stuffy. The staff was absolutely amazing from the very first time I called. I had a lot of questions about the services, but they patiently and kindly walked me through it all and explained things that are probably common knowledge to a younger, hipper crowd. When I got there they welcomed me in with a big hello and even bigger smiles on their faces. My stylist made things very easy with her extensive knowledge on how to cut my hair...I have very curly, stringy hair and it always seems to come out wrong...NOT THIS TIME!!!! IT WAS PERFECT!!! Along with added touches like making and bringing me a hot coffee to my liking, the gorgeous space I found myself taking in, the reimbursement for parking and the wonderful staff that seemed to bend over backwards for me...it was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I have already made another appointment and will definitely be going to you for any and everything. Thank you again so much for making my day special.

I took my entire wedding party here and left in tears! The make up was so bad we all looked like hookers and had to re-do it ourselves. My braidsmaids hair, which was curled and pulled back, all came undone before we even left the salon so we had to keep doing touch ups ALL DAY!! A couple of my braidmaids whom had pedi's left with cuts on their feet so they couldn't wear their shoes. And to make it all worse they sent me an email with a price estimate on it and they ended up charging me $300 MORE at the end of it all. They weren't apologetic and they sent us an email saying it was rude that we didn't tip them. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!?!??! I would never recommend them to ANYONE!

I don't know where these other guys went that are ripping on this place...I was treated awesome. I decided to get a haircut while my girlfriend was getting her stuff done there, and they squeezed me in almost right away. The dude that cut my hair was very chill. He had great advice for my mop and I ended up with a killer cut. It was kinda weird to be having a good time in a salon but I was. I ended up pulling an extra little surprise for my girl, and got us those foot detox things as a last minute deal. It was an unexpected end to a boring day and earned me major points. Besides feeling great after those detox things, it was cool to learn they paid for your parking time. \r
I honestly couldn't recommend a better place. If there were issues in the past they are definitely not there anymore. My girl goes back for lots of stuff already but now they will be seeing me again too. \r

I don't know what to say. I was given a gift certificate for a 60 minute massage. It would have been wonderful to actually get a massage but every time I called the therapist was ""sick, out today, on vacation, none on staff"". Come on! Get it together!

They told me I could use the amount towards another service. Great, I thought! I have hairdressers I love...I'll make an appointment for that. Well, guess what! They're gone too. I don't know what to say but a place that can't manage to keep a staff is not a place I want to go. Beyond that, the website is so overwhelming and the prices are too high for the quality of service they offer.

I could not resist a review. As a partner of a formal employee I have to say I can say that although I did not witness the BS drama first hand, I got to hear about it enough to be aware of the cattiness existing in this place. My partner, thank my lucky stars, was not really a part of the drama and really didn't engage it much, although we did have some laughs over how superficial and petty the staff (mainly those in authority) could be. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. You have to wonder about the turn around of employees in this place and the large amount of bad reviews alongside the "rockin" 5 star reviews. I think the employees would know the inner workings of this place better than anyone and if there is a large number or lots of energy being consumed writing against this company, it makes one stop and think. If they weren't so shady and treated there employee with a bit of dignity and respect, maybe they wouldn't go through the trouble of posting a bad review. Make no mistake, this place is shady. If there are as many people with five star reviews as this website shows, they never need a new client to sustain them and why take a chance. Then again, those reviews look pretty appealing, I may have to check this place out personally. You be the judge. I;m actually embarrassed that my partner has this salon on a resume. Ew. How far the great have fallen...

I had those Hollywood lashes done. Stated on the paperwork i filled out, apparently all the lash girls have 5+ years experience. Right. I asked the girl that did mine, I can't remember her name, how long she had been doing lashes. Her reply, 6 months. To make a long story short. My eyelids were glued shut. Another woman came to painfully remove them with alcohol. I then immediately went to the emergency room. My eyes down through my cheeks were the size of baseballs. OH yeah, the owner Kim, would not help me for the medications and hospital bills i incured, she wouldn't even give me a refund. Nor an apology. Kalista runs on bad principles. I tried to sue....and they ignore everythig. HORRIBLE

I waited 30 minutes for an eyebrow wax appointment. After the waxer found out that I was waiting, she proceeded to wax my eyebrows in the waiting area which was almost dark. When I got back to work and into the light, I realized that they were unevenly waxed (noticeably). The staff there seemed snobby and ignored me for most of the time. I will not be going back there or recommend it to anyone.

If you would like to wait 30 minutes to get your brows waxed in the dark, then Kalista is your place. I was given a gift certificate and tried to use it and they told me it was expired. It did not say exp. or expires anywhere on the card. The bad attitude manager or owner just said no, she didn't apologize or offer any type of compensation. She talked to me while she was multitasking with something else. If that is how they normally treat their clients, I'm not interested. If she is the owner, I surely don't want my money going to her.
The friend who gave me the gift cert. waited 30 minutes to get her eyebrows waxed in the dark. I'd prefer they used more light to see wheat they are doing. Sigh

I got my hair straightened here after receiving a wonderful straightening job in Los Angeles a year prior. So pleased with the results, I found Kalista and thought to find the same. At first blush, it looked great, but upon getting my hair cut at a stylist several months later, a look of horror came upon her face and she wheeled my chair around to show me the back and underpart of my hair.

Just like commentonly's recent experience, my hair was burnt off right by the scalp, leaving small scraps underneath my hair. I had never noticed as I don't often look at the back underpart. The stylist said that my Kalista stylist clearly has reapplied the chemical where it shouldn't have an caused irreparable damage to my hair. I even went for a second opinion at another (great!) salon in the Pearl where my stylist was equally horrified that someone had burned my hair off.

Straightening is serious business and not for the hands of amateurs, especially for $500+ dollars. DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR STRAIGHTENED HERE! I feel bad that I did not read reviews before going as this clearly has happened in the past. The rest of the salon was very pleasant, but this treatment is a joke.

I searched for a salon that specialized in hair straightening. I read a few reviews and took a leap of faith that they knew what they were doing. I went for a consult and I should have known then! Took 10 minutes before anyone came to the front to help me. Then I sat for an hour before my consult. I came back a week later to have my hair done from a person who said they had 16 years experience. A week later, no exageration, my hair broke off at the scalp. As I found out later from the manufacturer, the product was used incorrectly. I called and asked to consult with the owner, however, when I came back, they had me consult with the SAME hairdresser who screwed up my hair to begin with. Once again, I asked to talk to the owner. She came over, looked at my hair and tried to SELL me more product to fix the problem, then walked away. I really should have gone with my gut feeling and stayed away. If I can spare just 1 person the anguish of dealing with such an unprofessional salon, this post was well worth it!

I went to Kalista because I had a hair appt. I usually go to another salon but my hair dresser is in Europe for 3 months so I had driven by this place before and thought I would give it a shot. I arrived and stood their about 10 min before anyone even noticed me and then was told to wait and I would be seen soon. I don't even know the name of the girl who was going to do my hair bc I was told everyone is great and they booked me with who was open that day/time. I waited for 30 min and no one ever took me back so I walked out. I too heard all the girls laughing and being very unprofessional. I can't believe this place is able to stay open. Plus it looked dirty so I'm prob lucky I walked away. I wish I would have read all the bad reviews before I went.

I got my hair colored there 2 weeks ago and it turned out horrible. I expressed very nicely that I thought the highlights looked more orange than blond and was totally ignored. I left a message with the owner and never got a call back. Everyone there seemed hungover and spent all their time gossiping. So unprofessional and so not worth the money or time. I recently over heard a nurse whom I work with also talking about a very bad experience she too had there. So bad that she is getting her lawyer involved. If they would return phone calls and actually act professional I'm sure alot of this could be avoided. However, they prob should hire people that actually know what they're doing bc this salon does not. Please take all the bad reviews seriously bc I did not and my hair is paying for it. It also looks as if the girls there wrote some of their own good reviews due to all of the negitive ones.

I've been one of the owner Kim's customers for seven years. My last time in for color and cut she damaged my hair. It was dry, rough, brittle and felt like ends were broken. I called her the day after the appointment to see if anything could be done to help repair it. She was off that day so I left a message. After no response for over a week I called a second time. I was informed she was too busy to call me and was asked to email her instead, that maybe I might be able to get ahold of her that way but no guarantees. I don't think after being Kim's customer for SEVEN years that I should have to be the one going out of my way to get her to call me. I left another message and am not surprised she never called me back. Anybody who knows anything about customer service would have had the courtesy to call me back. It's obvious she doesn't even appreciate loyal, longtime clients who just want a little advice. It's been a month now and my hair still doesn't feel normal....
SO THEN today I get this auto email from Kalista Salon complaining about how all their good reviews were wiped off sites and that the bad reviews are former employees conspiring against them. They are asking their customers to write good reviews and to just call them if they had any bad experiences. What a joke, they don't even call people back.
So here is my response to their auto email:
The truth is there's a lot to say about their bad reviews too. I've been going there for years and the employees ARE catty and DO talk trash about other employees and customers in front of people all the time. I put up with the drama because I liked the way my color turned out. No more drama for me, I will gladly go somewhere else now.

I am sooo thankful to find Kalista! I was looking online for a salon that knew what they were doing with hair extensions. I was impressed from the very beginning when I stumbled across Kalista's website. I had looked at numerous other websites about hair extensions, and Kalista was very thorough on their procedures and the pros and cons to hair extensions. I scheduled a free consultation and after the consultation, I left even more pleased and excited for my new look! It gets even better folks...I have my hair colored blonde as well, and if you are a person who gets their hair colored blonde, you know what I mean when I say it is HARD to get the right blonde for your complexion. Well after chatting with my stylist about how I was not happy with my current blonde color she knew exactly what I was looking for and managed to create the PERFECT blonde color I so desperately was looking for! I left the salon with beautiful blonde top quality extensions! I have had them in since the first of July and they still look amazing! I workout frequently and this has had no effect of the condition of my extensions. When I first had the extensions put in, my friends would say wow your hair has gotten so long it's really pretty. When I tell them that they are extensions they are so surprised because they look so real. I highly recommend Kalista for hair color and extensions! I'm eager to try their other services...Cheers!

I experienced a massage and was amazing. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed instantly by one of the staff. I was then asked to fill out a comment card in a separate room with a lovely chocolate cookie and glass of water. It would take a novel for me to descibe the amount of detail that went into every inch of that salon! I would HIGHLY recommend this salon to anyone!

I live in the neighborhood of Kalista and have been thinking about going in for a while. And I finally did, and I am so happy. I have long low-mentanance curly hair. When I asked who I should see the receptionist suggested Sarah.

Sarah greeted me with a friendly smile, and then really took the time to talk to me about my struggles of my hair. She then went on to give me a great cut. I am SOOO happy. I have been to so many people that have butchered my curly hair, and Sarah did such a great job. We then talked about color and she had some fun ideas to do. I can't wait for my color appointment!

Went to Kalista very nervous to get my hair colored red for the first time. Sam was very nice, and friendly. My color turned out great, and she even knew how to deal with my curly hair straitening it before she cut it. I looked so hot with straight red hair, my bf thought he had a new girlfriend! I am so pleased with the service and the price was not bad either. Sam is the best! She also did my sisters bangs and it looked great.

For some constructive critisism, when my sis got her bangs done, she also did her eye brows...and they were really bad. She had just waxed them, with no plucking at all. I complained and they took her right back in the room to fix em, and they did look better. They are willing to negotiate and fix issues if things dont work out, so that is good.....

But overall really a good experience with Kalista. they have a super great atmosphere too, with water and cookies. Lastly, I love the way they answer the phone calling you beautiful, makes me feel good every time ;-)

I took my daughter to Kalista for hair extensions as a gift for her birthday. After having a consultation with a very nice stylist who felt that extensions could not be done on my daughter's very short hair, she asked us to come back in 45 minutes and speak to the owner.

The owner looked at my daughter's hair and said it could be done and that it would look natural; that she would have a thick head of hair. She also said she was an expert at these types of extensions and that she would supervise the entire process.

She did not supervise anything, and left the salon to never return to see the finished product. My daughter looked ridiculous. Her scalp was covered in glue and knots fully exposed. It looked like she was wearing a Frost-and-Tip cap. Even the stylists in the salon and two clients, agreed that it looked terrible with both saying ""they wouldn't walk outside like this without wearing a scarf.""

The stylist who did the extensions tried to call the owner. She told me that the owner would not get on the phone as she kept texting the stylist to say she would not come back to salon. She wouldn't even talk to me on the phone to come up with some solution to the problem.

The spa manager called and said they would remove the extensions (this is after my daughter had already been there for 10 hours)! He also wanted us to pay for the removal of the extensions, and for the hair! This is after he admitted that he had been there while we were having our consultation and that he knew that the type of extensions they planned to do would not work.
I had to have my husband come to the salon to talk to him, by phone, to tell him we would not pay for their mess.

12 hours later, the extensions were removed and my daughter's hair was fried with glue stuck all in her scalp.
This owner is out of her mind. She claims on her Web site that she is an expert at extensions. She quoted me $1,300 to do this job. This is after I was originally quoted $900 but after hearing that my husband was a doctor, it quickly went up to $1,300. She is unprofessional and does not know what she's doing. Even the staff was embarassed at the way she handled things. Stay away from this place. It's a joke.

Hello. I came in for a massage as I had heard great things about your salon and was given a poor massage and complained and they referred me to a manager, Aaron. I talked to him had the worst experience. It was completely confrontational and felt like I was the bad guy for spending my money at your business. I will not return, and will let my friends know as well. I had found a new massage therapist since and they stated the same that they have heard bad experiences at the salon and Aaron the manager. Very disappointed. Wish you the best in boosting your customer service, sounds like I'm not the only one that had a poor experience.

Kalista has a knowledgable friendly staff that has always impressed me. The environment is relaxed yet professional and feels great, the employees always seem happy! Over the years I have had my hair and nails done here and I am seldom dissapointed. The staff at Kalista strives to achieve what you have in mind and they usually succeed. The prices are reasonable and the quality of service is always excellent! I regularly and highly reccomend Kalista to friends, family and co-workers.

$125.00 package, NO BACK RUB as advertised, not even a neck rub, and didn't get all the facial treatments either. I was even charged a higher amount, which they refunded the next day. When I spoke with the manager, she told me the information was printed wrong in the booklet, and would be fixed. That was in November of 2008, they still haven't changed the information! The massage couldn't be done because the girl wasn't licensed, she was new and didn't realize what the $125.00 package included.That was it. NO apology, nothing.

After getting my hair back to its natural color (or at least very close to it), things were looking drab. I was hoping to fix the situation by the end of the day, but I was skeptical because in my experience, it's hard to book an appointment at the last minute. I remembered walking by Kalista salon a few times in the past and thinking about how lovely the inside looked -- cozy & zen with great decorations including a beautiful fountain. So I called them up, not really expecting to manage getting an appointment and - voila! - somehow they arranged squeezing me in. Once I got there, I saw that the place was even prettier on the inside than I had remembered seeing while walking by. There were even drinks in a cozy waiting area and cookies, too. My highlights were done by a woman named Tia, who was very friendly, listened to my needs, and did exactly what I had in mind. I am very happy with the coloring and I have even gotten a few compliments so far. Thank you, Kalista, I will definitely be coming back and requesting Tia as my colorist! :)

I love the earthy feel of the place...and getting to sit on a luxurious leather couch for my pedicure with a hand filled basin is much better than a slumpy chair and people who don't speak my language. The technician that worked with me, Vera, was so friendly and answered every question I had about the service before we even started. She told me that she only uses all organic products and even has an array of vegan products for those who request it! \r

When I was done I was relaxed and ready to go about my day...she even gave me free nail art on my big toe!\r

I went in last week and got a spa pedicure, and let me tell you, it was one of the best and most relaxing experiences i've had. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was going to enjoy myself. Every person that I passed while being seated in their awesome waiting area smiled and said hello to me. The lighting was really cool, and the whole place smelled so good! My pedicure was extremely thorough, and the woman that did my toes was friendly and hilarious. They play great music throughout, and prices are very reasonable for the amount of time that they put into my poor, tired feet. I will definately be returning in the very near future, and look forward to trying more services that they offer. Also, the baby puffer fish that they have in the waiting area is probably one of the cutest things ever. :-)\r

I came in with my husband to have a massage and facial, and they where both amazing!! After we where done my husband asked if I wanted to go to dinner. I told him no, I had no make up on and my hair was a mess. Then the person that did my facial said, I can do your makeup and we can see if someone could do your hair. My husband said YES!!! Went in to get a Japanese Straightening done on my hair. The stylist (Heather) left the straightening solution on my scalp for so long it permanently burned the top layer of my hair. Two years have gone by and you can still see the damaged area. The owner, Kim, took no responsibility, she only offered me a re-do. Most salons would give you a refund. Now why would I let a salon that ruined my hair have another go at it?? They were completely unprofessional and unsympathetic towards the entire ordeal. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!! They offer NO liability for botched services!!!! BEWARE!!! One more thing, the stylist told me the owner, Kim, had a stalker ex-boyfriend that blew out the windows of her old salon and that's why they moved to a different location. That was very comforting to know as I sat in the chair next to a window!! Horrible salon!!! Trash!!!

I went to this salon for a hair cut and color. It was the worse cut and color I have ever had. My hair cut was just butchered - it has taken nearly a year to grow out all the weird lengths that were cut into my hair. The color was atrocious - didn't even begin to cover the gray as I had asked. Then I was informed by my stylist that I should have my brows waxed as they made me look like I had no eyes...Hello? I have light brown eyebrows and trust me you can certainly tell that I have eyes. It took 4 hours and cost over $300. I would have been better off doing the cut/color myself at home.

I could go on and on. But essentially the ""spa"" does not feel like a spa but rather a random country kitchen meets zen monastary meets dollar store jam sesh. I used to work with Kim before she did hair 11years ago at a coffee shop. When she started hair, I came to her but eventually moved away and when I came back a month ago I decided to look her up again. And I found her, She moved to this amazing location I loved it! What I loved about this place is the entrance. It is wonderful!!!! the salon and spa is divided it two, at first I was kinda nervous about getting a spa service because the front had funky music and was loud due to all the hairdressers and conversations. But they took me into this large waiting area that softened the sound from the front to the spa. My first appointment was a massage so going further to the back I was blown away!!!! It was wonderful quite and beautiful and like leaving town in the middle of town. After that I did the Lipo massage and that was again amazing. Loved the room it was so cozy and I am for sure hooked on it now. The staff was amazing in the spa and so nice. Then they took me back to the waiting area and I was greeted my a girl with really pink hair and I myself am pretty conservative but I gave it a shot. Took my deep breath trusted my friend that (by the way already warned me this would be an experience I never experienced before) and trusted that this is what she ment. MY HAIR WAS AMAZING. Really, I love what she did, um Tia I think her name was. She listened to me and gave me what I wanted and I didn't even know I wanted it. She helped me come up with a new look and really I was just going to get a trim, she just made me feel so comfortable. She was so positive about the salon and she seemed to love being there. This only made me love my experience more. Thanks girls! You really are PDX best kept secret!

I was at a conference when the speaker spoke of Kalista and commented on how she went to the forest to away. She stated that she came to Kalista, I was so intrigued that I had to go and see what she was talking about. I called made an appointment for a few services and today I went in and had a facial and massage and added a pedicure once I arrived. This place really is adorable. It feels like you are at a resort (well kinda) but at least close enough. The ladies are so cute and sweet. They really want to make you happy and accommodate you. I couldn't get the manicure and the girls where so nice about it and apologized as if it was not ok. Love LOVE this place. Glad I was recommended!

I called Kalista on a Friday afternoon and was able to squeeze in before 3pm. The receptionist answered my many questions with courtesy and patience. Heidi was my waxer and she took the time to ask what I needed. I had never been waxed and the experience was not painful at all and was relaxing. Their space is beautiful and I would come back for a massage or a pedicure. I am sure the hair people are great but I love Ginger Salon too much. I will definitely come back in four weeks for my upkeep. I feel my face looks much better with new eyebrows.

I was asked to write a review, And I am more then happy to do this!!!! I have been going to Kalista for about 3 years now. And I will say they are a wonderful group of people to be around. The owner is honest and is so environmental, completely honest and is always trying to do what ever she can to help anyone out she can. Her continuous effort to stop animal cruelty was the main reason I began to come to Kalista. I love this place! I have personally never had a bad service, of course sometimes I get services that I would have wanted to be different, but isn't that the way it goes? I have however communicated this to them and they fix it. You know what! when people talk trash or neg about you it's a complement, it only means you really are worth talking about. Kim you're amazing! People just hate how great you and your staff is and they want to crush it! See you at the fashion show! You rock hair color!!!!! My fav place.

I went in for a haircut last Friday, but was not seen as there was some kind of problem with the stylist not showing up. They made up for it by offering my rescheduled haircut free of charge. I went in a few days later for my haircut, this time with Carol, who was so friendly and nice, and took great pains to give me a great cut-- then took me around the building for a quick tour. It's very tranquil and inviting. I definitely recommend it to anyone who needs to feel pampered. The facility is wonderful, the customer service is amazing, and a special 'thank you' to Carol for my good hair.

Being a guy you wouldn?t think there is a thing, as a bad hair cut. But I have had a few. When my old hairstyles retired I dreaded that bad hair cut look for a month or so. Well heard about Kalista on the radio and took a chance. I got extremely lucky with June. Probably best hair cut I?ve had and she was so fast I was afraid to look at first. But has been perfect every time and she is very friendly. I also like the idea of the books in waiting room. When I?m early I have actually found a couple of books that I ended up buying.

I've been a client at Kalista for a few months now. During my ""growing out my hair"" phase, June kept me trimmed, tidy and patient. Then I decided my longer hair wasn't doing a thing for my plus-size face. I had a gift certificate from Christmas, and decided drastic measures were going to be taken. I called the appointment lady and demanded the one and only girl who can do red without it looking like it was out of a bottle (little-known fact: every spa/salon has ONE, just ONE, stylist who is stellar at red). After some hold time, the appointment gal directed me toward Sarah. I'm a natural redhead, but my red has faded to blondish in my 30s. Sarah worked with my neurosis, kept me calm, cut four inches off my hair expertly, and colored me up a Perfect auburn. I mean PERFECT. It's red, but not fake. This place was great when initially putting in hair extensions (although extraordinarily pricey). However, when some started coming out and needed replacing, they wanted to charge me to replace them! If the job isn't done right the first time, there should be no charge to fix it, especially considering the price I paid! I would not recommend this place for hair extensions. The customer service was lacking, at best.

That being said, I try to explain to the ladies that chop, as best I can, that I like my long hair and I want to keep it that way. I went to Kalista today and had MAEGY as my lovely hair maven. She listened, did exactly what I wanted, prodded me about my lovelife, complimented my hair, brought out it's natural beauty, and finally offered me a great shine product that is, like they say, cruelty free. GOOD JOB MAEGY! I'm a hard to sell kind of gal and you got my vote.

did not get what i paid for! i reviewed &purchased a facial/massage package based upon its detailed description of services received.the advertised "back massage"[later i found out is a neck "massage" by unlicensed person] only i would call it maybe a neck rub?also advertised"a full skin analysis"looking at my skin in dim light; fell far short for my standard and other skin analysis/facial experience i have had.last but not least..to finish with a LED light treatment,however i never received this either! only thing good to say is i liked the product used.

I just moved here to Portland a few months ago and my sister-in-law recommended Kalista. I am super HAPPY that she did. When I first walked in, I felt nervous, but I got over that real quick. Everyone was so nice to me. I am very picky about my hair color and Sara worked with me to make a color for my hair that I would be happy with. After she finished, I LOVED MY HAIR! Yesterday I went in during the dead of the storm and Kim helped me. She totally ROCKED at doing my hair as well. And it came out wonderful. She was even nice enough to drive me home in this horrible weather! There is are many more nice things I can say about this place but I don't want to bore the readers. One last thing that I will say is.. go there and only there if you want to have KICK A$$ hair and be treated like a friend!

Wow this place knows how to give a good pedicure! I decided to give Kalista a call after driving by it so many times on my way home from work. I was able to be fit in the same day i called and was surprised to find that what looked like a small salon, turn out to be a huge, beautiful spa. I was taken to the back waiting area and was given a glass of wine and listened to relaxing french music. My girl, Heidi, came and got me and helped me pick my polish. i then sat on my ""pedistal"" and just about fell asleep. not only was i so relaxed, she and i talked about traveling, boyfriends and what we were going to do for the holidays. She made me feel like i was a friend and was really interested in getting to know me. when i checked out the receptionist gave me a small Christmas gift and Heidi gave me her card. Im really happy that i decided to do this for myself and esspecially happy that i went there. My feet look amazing and my boyfriend thinks so too.... wink, wink!

I came into the salon yesterday for my third thermal straightening at Kalista with Kim, She is amazing!!! My hair is healthier now that I get it done. This salon is awesome! the girls here are funny and warm spirited. They always laugh and get along with each other. You can really tell they care for each other. I love coming here because Kim is always complimentary to me and her clients. She makes you feel better about yourself without trying! I get highlights in a couple days and I know she will do an amazing job on my hair. She wants me to wait a week before I have any chemical hair processes done after my thermal, I love that she is honest about that and does not just do it. I read what some other people have been saying and they are not true. I know I am just a client but I have been going there long enough to know that for one, the salon is very clean. I have never seen any of the girls that work there seem disorganized. I think of Kim and the Spa manager (I forgot her name) as people that would not tolerate that. I also noticed there clients are defending them. Well I can tell you why they are. Because if you ever visit this salon, it is different! But BETTER! I will never go anywhere else. I trust Kim and her staff for all my services.\r

Ok so in the defense of this spa and salon, I have been to Kalista for years now! And there is no way they talk like this and or act like this, This spa and salon is anything but AWESOME! To me it seems like people are using this site for a personal attacks for something other then the truth of the services of this salon. The staff has always been so nice and as far as the owner her staff seems to respect and admire her. I always see this spa in a clean and orderly fashion. The spa manager is very friendly and the nail techs always do a wonderful job! I have had the detox foot bath and it was great! I don't mean to get on my high horse here but instead of attacking people especially in a time like we have today maybe you should channel your aggression some other way like a punching bag. We all need to stick together here and be a better place to live and not be a part of the problem. Even if I was not a client here I would think you were an angry and unhappy person and I do feel sorry for those of you that feel personal attacks actually accomplish something.\r

This place is a joke! The staff at Kalista is very unprofessional. I do not recommend it at all. The business owner doesn't care about their customer service at all either. I'm totally agree with one star reviews. I had terrible experience at this salon too. I think the owner or the staff write 5 stars reviews. I have to agree with other peoples reviews about the gossiping, bad business and very bad extensions plus the place doesn't look clean to me. This is not a salon I would ever recommend.

My experience was super from the moment that I made the first call to book the appointment. I had called a lot of places but knew that this was the place to come. When I walked through the door and was greeted by the receptionist, her professionalism and warmth made my anxiety dissipate. Then I met my esthetician and the incredible experience began. The treatment I chose was the Facial with the Lumiere (LED light therapy). The esthetician explained in detail every step and what I would experience through the entire process, which is very important to a client. She informed me about my skin condition and the course of action that I needed. Her expertise was incredible and she has hands from heaven! I will finish the treatments that she outlined and I recommend this spa to everyone. They give terrific packages. I got 12 sessions for 680.00, My girlfriend turned me onto the Lumiere because her skin looked amazing and I was prepared to pay 2500.00 at least. I did get a bit suspicious about the cost but this machine is state of the art and designed my nasa, so YES its the real deal. My skin is amazing and my wrinkles are almost gone, and I'm only on treatment 6. Thank you. A very satisfied client!

I've now had massages, a facial and thermal straightening at Kalista. All were amazing...couldn't be more pleased. The staff is incredibly warm and friendly, the atmosphere is very chill and unpretentious. It's the best facial I've ever had by far. When I got engaged, my fiance and I had a couples' massage which was really special and in the best room of the spa...they had lit candles and put down flower petals. They know how to make you feel special. It also didn't hurt that it was an incredible massage! I'd highly recommend Kalistas to anyone who knows the difference b/w a great treatment and a mediocre one.

On Friday before my daughters wedding; we thought it would be great to have spa pedicures for the wedding party and myself, and the Bride also had a manicure. So I searched around and found Kalista, this spa had the atmosphere and they were able to do all six pedicures at one time and that was what we were looking for; so I booked it a month in advance. \r

We arrived at the spa on time; they seem a little unorganized but we keep in mind that there where six of us. The staff was friendly; the issue is that one of the French manicures had to be redone; she did not notice it when she left that all of the previous red polish had not been removed and there was red residue around each of her toes. When she called and asked to get them redone, she was told that they had noticed it but did not say anything to her (the client) before she left. When she came back to have them redone the same day they told her that they could not compensate for the bad job and inconvenience.\r

That evening after the rehearsal dinner the Bride noticed that the polish on her nail was starting to bubble. All she had done that day was the Kalista visit, a family lunch, and the church wedding rehearsal? no cooking, cleaning or anything that would affect a manicure. By morning the toe nail polish had started to peal also.\r

We were staying in a Hotel in NW Portland and had to go out at 8:00 AM and find polish remover and polish to fix what she had paid $90.00 dollars for the day before. When I called Kalista at 9:30 AM on Saturday the day of the wedding, I was told that I should have called sooner? Well at that time the service was not even 24 hours old. The Manager told me there was nothing they could do, that their staff works on commission and that would be taking their bread and butter away. \r

I've been getting bikini waxes for a long time. I had my first Brazilian wax 2 years ago. I love the look and the way it makes me feel. However, I have had the worst time finding an aesthetician who is good at them. I've had bad experiences everywhere I go. I even drove to Salem to try out a lady who was recommended. Not good. NEVER again will I go to another person other than Janae at Kalista. She is in one word.....AMAZING!!!!! Having had this done before, no one has ever explained to me in such detail what to expect and she gave me great advice on after care to do at home. She treated me with kindness and respect. She was gentle. (As gentle as she can be.) I knew from the get go, this Brazilian I was going to get was going to be different from all the others. I wasn't nervous. She put me at ease. She even apologized for all the bad ones I've had. What a Gem she is to the salon. If she ever leaves, I will follow her. The last place I went to, the aesthetician was aggressive and not personable. Janae was/is the nothing like that. I'll see you Janae is 4 weeks!! p.s. My boyfriend likes your work!!!!

I took my bridal party here to get manis and pedis. We LOVED this place. Everyone there is great!! They have great attitudes and don't gossip! I can't wait to go back! I loved the building and the setup that they have!! Its a great place to go and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a GREAT mani and pedi. I also got lash extensions and they did such a great job. One of my girls had it done and within a couple of days, her had started to fall out. Mine were so GREAT they lasted for 4 weeks!! I came to Kalista initially for a Massage and hair extension consultation. The girls were amazing and during the consultation they were doing these extensions on someone so I was able to see first hand what it was like. The work was fantastic!!!! You couldn't see where the girls hair began. However during the consultation we had decided extensions would be my last resort and maybe we should try straightening my hair to create the length I wanted. I hesitated, Obviously because this service rarely gets good reviews. I went ahead and did it and it is amazing! My hair is so long, silky and perfect!!! I decided I should let Amiee also do my color ONLY!!! So had my hair cut and highlighted by Amiee, and she is.....should I say great! Its been a long time since my hair looked and felt so wonderful. The color is a perfect mix of blond, caramel, and lt brown, and she gave me a great haircut. I wanted to keep my hair long, but wanted it to look fun, she did it...long and fun! She also introduced me to a product called Kevin murphy. It is an all natural product that is amazing! I can use before and after I blow-dry my hair. I'm in heaven. Aimee is Great! Ill be back!

I woke up this morning (my first day off in 10 days) feeling totally wiped out. I am constantly on my feet, so I often wake up feeling sore. I just knew that I needed a massage asap. Now, because I am ""in the business,"" I'm a little picky with salons and spas. There is nothing worse than walking out after spending a couple hundred treating yourself and regretting it. I did a little research on yelp and city search and had decided on Kalista....mostly because it was close and they had so many great write ups. What a wonderful choice. The salon was very eclectic and Secretive , but very welcoming. My masseuse, greeted me and asked me to pick out a scent and was very helpful. I often find myself holding my breath or maybe taking shorter breaths when the massage gets a little intense, but she was calmly breathing at a slow pace which reminded me to focus on actually breathing and relax a little. She told me that it can get a little intense when getting out the knots..etc. but should never hurt....because that's not what were here for. I felt like it was her mission to get me relaxed and feel rejuvenated.. which she did very well. After the hour was over, I asked if I could get a facial as well, they gave me a robe and took me into this other amazing room for a facial to die for. . Afterwards, I was browsing through the products and the man helping me was wonderful. Made great suggestions and not a hint of pushiness to get a sale. I re-booked with My therapist in 6 weeks and cannot wait to go back. Great area- corky neighborhood, easy to park, highly recommend Kalista and take it from a spa junkie *try The facials out too!!!*

I have been a lot of places for waxing, but I have finally found THE place! The waxers are so great. My eyebrows have never looked this good! I have really thin brows and had started to fill them in with pencils, powders - you name it, but they never looked natural. They tinted and waxed and tweezed and snipped and now I have full, perfect eyebrows! No more filling them in - and the price is fair and SO worth it! I also recently had a brazilian bikini wax for the first time with her and she made me feel completely comfortable and the pain was minimal. She is truly good at what she does. Kalista Salon has a client for life.

Most of us rather change boyfriends then a cherished hair dresser. Or at least that is what my friends say. I loved my hair dresser and kept the same one for many years. But change is good and while I was not looking for change when I met Kim I felt so comfortable I just wanted to try her, boy am I glad I did. My experience was a joy, and I have to say that the compliments I get regularly are all telling. I had long hair with highlights; At first I thought I'd just get the color done, she asked if she can cut and I said surprise me, after I sat in Kim's chair I had shorter hair and many beautiful high and low lights and I was relaxed the entire time, (after all someone new was cutting and coloring MY hair and I felt no stress at all). I walked out with a dance in my feet and a song in my heart. I felt new and beautiful. By the time I got home I had several compliments, the next day at work everyone said I looked 10 years younger. Two months have passed and I still hear ?what are you doing you look 10 years younger?. l am I thrilled I met Kim she is talented, professional a joy to spend time with, loving, kind generous and a real creative artist, not only did she change my entire look but the maintenance for me has become simplified. That is a great thing for a working girl. If your life needs a change call Kim, and if your life doesn't need a change as mine didn't, surprise yourself he is that good. You will be glad you did. Everyone at Kalista Salon & Day Spa was very nice too.

I went to Kalista almost a week ago & had my hair colored by Aimee. I loved my hair when I first left & I still love it a week later!!! I've received several compliments regarding the color & that it looks very healthy (we did a conditioning treatment as well). The staff was very fun & energetic! You can tell that they are one big family--because you feel very welcomed there! Aimee was fantastic! Besides being very satisfied with my hair, she was fun to talk to--felt like an old friend. I saw Kalista Salon as the featured business when I was doing a search for a good restaurant. Curious to see how the salon was doing since I had stopped going there several years ago, I started reading reviews. I walked out of the salon on my last visit knowing that I would never be back,. After reading many reviews, I decided to write in. I went to Kalista's Salon several times, and even referred friends. I loved my hairdresser, Sabrina. She made me feel beautiful when I left that salon. My color and cut was always perfect. As a single mom, on an EXTREMELY limited budget, I would save my money for those visits. They were the one indulgence I allowed myself. The one down side to the time in the chair was having to listen to the owner, Kim talk nonstop to any one who would listen. It was hard to relax when she was there. And, she DID talk about the employees at times. On my last visit, Sabrina was unavailable, so Kim said she would do my hair. I had a party to go to, and needed my hair done, so I agreed. She was her talkative self, and she used me to show her staff short cuts to coloring and cutting (so much for relaxing). The cut and color took about an hour and looked liked something from Super Cut. I didn't feel beautiful at all. I went to pay my bill and she charged me double the cost that I was normally charged. I was floored. I didn't have that kind of money in my budget. I told her that wasn't what I was usually charged, and she said that is what she charged. I didn't have a choice. I paid for the Supercut hair, and left. I felt horrible. My one indulgence that I saved for was now a reckless waste of money that I didn't have. Kim, I hope things are better now, and you really have listened to what some of these reviewers have said. While your energy was amazing to watch, it was too much to be around at times. And, I left that day feeling like I was a dollar amount to you and not a client. Not a good feeling.....

So, basically...The staff at Kalista is very unprofessional. I do not recommend it at all. They are not attentive to their clients and are a bit pushy. Not what I want to pay for. I had my hair straightened there...Ouch! Never ever go there for anything more than a trim. The girl who did my hair had no idea what she was doing, so, in results...over-processed and very damaged. I still had to pay $500 bucks! I don't know how they can get away with that. But, they do. I've had it straightened since ( not at Kalista), and at turned out great. Though, I had to cut 7inchs of damaged hair. They claim they're the best...but I question that.

The atmosphere at Kalista was relaxing and wonderful and the techs were fantastic. I had my best pedicure ever, complete with some great nail art. I was even able to get an unscheduled brow wax at the last minute. Unfortunately, my husband's experience wasn't as good. We were on a rare date weekend and I scheduled us for ""basic"" pedicures. He was very resistant to doing this with me until I told him about the foot massage part of a pedicure and promised him no polished toes. After arriving, I looked at the menu and noticed that Kalista offers a foot massage ($10 more than the basic pedicure). I asked if we could switch his pedicure to a foot massage instead and the staff was very accommodating. I had been told that the basic pedicure would last approximately 45 min, so I assumed that the foot massage would be about the same. I should have asked to clarify that instead of assuming. My husband received a good foot soak and a good massage, but the whole thing lasted no more than 25 minutes, including the foot soak. He was very disappointed and not too happy about paying $45 for a 15 minute foot rub. I probably won't be able to get him to go back with me, which bums me out, but I'll definitely be back on my own for some more great nail art designs.

I had booked a basic massage. When I arrived I was promptly greeted & seated (friendly). The decor is different, it's not like ""share a cup of coffee with me cozy"" but it is very friendly & smells good. Just a few minutes later someone came out & explained the massage person I was supposed to see was in a car accident. The salon was already in the process of calling other massage therapist to fill in. No luck. They apoligized & asked if I would like to reschedule & they would give me a coupon to use. I said yes being I was very much looking forward to my massage. Even though I was disapointed, life does have unexpected events. \r
My appt was scheduled for a week later with Aimee. I showed up 10 minutes early, promptly greeted & seated again (still friendly). A few minutes before my appt was to begin Aimee came out & introduced herself (very pleasant) and showed me to my room. I had a FANTASTIC one hour massage by Aimee. During my massage I was thinking (this would be great gift to me from hubby at Christmas). I will be back someday.\r

My friend and I had a great spa pedicure at Kalista last week. The experience was very relaxing, casual and fun. We had a glass of wine, and kicked back on the couch to have our toes done. It really did feel like hanging out in a friend?s living room, not at all stuffy. The staff was very friendly, and gave one mean pedicure! Can?t wait to try more services!

I had always wanted to try the foot detox process and found it at Kalista Salon. First - let's start with the folks that work there- it is as if you are being invited into any of their homes - they are so warm and welcoming....But beyond that I found out the foot detox that I thought was just fun has turned into my regular routine! I have had acne for close to 25 years and have found the foot detox to REALLy help clear out my system and WOW - I have left the house without make-up several times - It has really helped my skin so much. If if you have any doubts - just try it - it helps with so many things - and hey, who doesn't want to rid their body of all the icky toxins? You bsically put your feet into a clear bowl of warm water - they put and ionizer in and you relax. The feet are one of the places we discharge toxins. Got the Japanese Straightening done about 2 months ago. Looked really nice right after I got it done,followed all the after care instructions carefully, even bought the $30 a bottle shampoo&conditioner. Sadly, my hair has been breaking/falling off uncontrollably (about a handful or hair a day) My hair was in excellent condition before the treatment, (they corroborated that during the preliminary appointment) Needless to say, if you want the Japanese Straightening done, don?t do it at Kalista.

I've been going to Kalista for about three years, and I'm so happy I discovered it. Kalista salon pays attention to detail, does a fantastic job, and makes you feel welcome. I got my hair done for prom a year or so back and my hair looked like artwork, it was gorgeous. Also my stylist helped me put on fake eyelashes I brought in for free. That's the kind of extra care I'm looking for in a salon. Ever since I went to college, I've been disappointed because I can not, seriously, can not go to another salon to get my eyebrows waxed. So I let them grow hideously until I can make a trip up to Portland to wax my brows at Kalista. The last time I went in I was disappointed with my eyebrows because I wanted to just take off excess hair and keep my natural brow and she took a ton off. It didn't look terrible, just nooot what I went in for. I'll just make sure to bring a picture in of how I like them next time. Besides that one time, I've had multiple magnificent experiences. Lastly, my favorite part is when I call to make an appointment and the receptionist answers with ""Hello Beautiful."" Brightens up my day!

my friend and I went to Kalista salon and spa based on the almost 5 stars rated on this search sight and then based on how nice there web sight made the place look.\r
unfortunately the place is now some what run down and covered in dust, we were not greeted by name or given the name of our nail techs. and one of our techs wasn't even there yet, so the first tech sits us down and starts are foots soaks, then has to ask which pedicure were having and then makes the hot towels for our pedi. the other nail tech finally shows and we get started, I'm sorry to say the pedicures were lacking, the girls kept dipping their fingers into the products (dirty and against the law) but I'm there with my friend so we stay and enjoy each others company. needless to say the rest of the pedicure was like what you can get at any beauty school. so overall a very disappointing experience. And the nail tech with 18 years experience cut my friend and hours later her toe still hurts. hopefully she wont get an infection since she pregnant I could go on but it would be redundant.please note the recant on my rant was not from this user ID. my dirty unprofesional service was at kalista salon and spa.

I went to Kalista a few times and had good experiences the first couple of times. I had a great hairstylist, who gave me the best cut I had gotten in a long time. The atmosphere is very relaxed and everyone is super nice. So after a couple good experiences, I decided to book my wedding party there. However, I didn't have the experience I had expected. To start off with, I had to call them several times to get things arranged for my wedding party. I called and got different answer, or someone who didn't know what I was talking about. It was a bit frustrating, but I was relieved when a receptionist finally called me and said things were taken care of. Then, the day of the wedding, they did not seem to be prepared for us. I don't know if something happened, but it seemed very unorganized. I had requested the lash extension bundles, as well as my hair, so I was taken into a room to have my lashes done. I had never had extensions before, and assumed she was doing what I had asked for, so imagine my surprise when I went to check out and was charged $150. But I didn't say anything because I had assumed they would last awhile and we were in a hurry to leave. However, they started falling off when I went to put my makeup on and had fallen off completely by the next morning. Then when it finally was time for me to get my hair done, it was rushed and was nothing like what I had wanted. I was told I couldn't have a run through of my hair prior to the wedding, but wasn't worried because my stylist said she understood what I wanted. I didn't say anything because I didn't have time to fix it., as she didn't finish until 15 minutes before we had to leave, and one of my bridesmaids still hadn't had her hair done. I left there not feeling like a beautiful bride, but just disappointed and worried about where I was going to get that extra $100 I hadn't planned for. Even though I really liked the job she did cutting my hair, I won't be going back after my wedding day experience.

My friend and I went last weekend for pedicures at Kalista. The girls who worked on us were great. Super nice and talkative, and did a great job on our feet. One of them did some super cute nail art for us. I am glad that we were able to get our feet done at the same time in the same room so we could visit, but I am not a big fan of the couch that we sat on during the pedicure. It wasn't very comfortable, and at other places I've had a massage chair that is much more appealing. The couch seats 3 people, and another woman came back for a pedicure at the same time we were there. She talked with us and we all had a great time. I didn't mind her being in on our conversation at all, but I could see how that could be a problem for someone else if they wanted to relax and have it quiet and there was a couple of girls like us that came together and want to talk. While we were getting our pedicures, my daughter was getting her bangs colored and a trim. Her stylist did a great job. It is also very nice that they give a 15% off coupon for first timers.

This salon/Spa is great at what it does. The ambiance is amazing! The staff here is super friendly and they know what they are doing! one gripe that has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the services, is the website. Not at all user friendly and kind of all over the place. It looks more like a teenager's myspace page than a website for an upscale salon. This establishment is very professional, but you really wouldn't be able to tell that from a quick visit to the website. My advice would be to hire someone to build you a professional looking website. Something that fits the screen without having to scroll all over the place, Something that is neat, organized and SPELL CHECKED. I know I probably sound very stuffy right now but honestly I have visited the site many times to learn about the services performed and I'm sure everyone else has as well and it is just too much of a task to get the information you need from it. I just want you guys to get the respect you deserve from outsiders looking in. I have a feeling that you will get more website traffic, more new clients, and your current clientele will have a great resource to utilize to obtain information.

All of my experiences at Kalista have been pleasant, and my expectations have generally been met or exceeded. I have been there several times over the last couple years for waxing and pedicures. I agree that the wait can be a bit obnoxious, but not something entirely unexpected. One of my best experiences was when a group of my friends went to get pedicures for a wedding. The ladies went and got pizza for us while we hung out. That was entirely unexpected and an example of good customer care. I don't have a lot of spa experience, but I appreciate the unpretentious atmosphere (albeit, the decor is a bit tacky, but it's comfortable) and friendly nature of most of the employees I have encountered.

I was recently waxed and come to find out, she ripped most of the hairs off......so now half has grown back with in a week! Very poorly done and I am very disapointed. I have been a client for about 5 years now and I travel from newport to get my extensions done and I will tell you this salon is great! I have wanted to get different extesions everytime and KIM takes awesome care of me. She has taken me from dark to blond as well and it has been an all day process because she does not want to hurt my hair and I actually loved the blond, but missed being red so we went back. Long story is that they are great! I would never travel as far as I do for just anyone.She is very attentive to my wants and needs and always listen, plus her staff is friendly and helpful. I was a client up untill January. I had jet black hair and was interested in going blonde. Kim told me no problem she could bleach my hair to blonde in one day. I was very excited since I had never had blonde hair before I had no idea what kind of process it was to get jet black hair to blonde. Now I know that something like that does not take a few hours but rather you should slowly grow the hair out and it is really a very long process. Well Kim out a level 30 bleach on my hair and within two hours my hair had melted out! I looked like I had cemo. Kim had to have me go out the back door so no one would see what happened to me. My head had sores on it and I only had a few tuffs of hair here and there on my scalp. To make things worse I had just gotten married and my husband and I were flying cross country the next day for me to meet his family for the first time! I was horrified. My husband and I had to reschedule our flight coasting us a few hundred and I have had to wear a wig for the past 7 months while my hair has slowly grown back. To make matters worse a couple months later Kim tried to put extensions in but my hair was just way too short and it looked horrible, she charged me $1,200 even though she melted my hair out. I felt even worse when she turned around and told the other stylists that I asked her to do a high level of bleach and I wanted her to keep the bleach in longer, that's a lie. I would never ask to have my hair melt out like that and I don't feel anywhere near compensated for what happened to me. Besides that I have to agree with other peoples reviews about the gossiping, aapointments starting sometimes 1/2 late and very bad extensions. This is not a salon I would ever recommend.

I came in for a pedicure with my daughter, I was a bit surprised because I was ""bumped"" due to someone calling in for an appointment that had a credit card. I don't really like to have my credit card information on file and don't find it necessary, although policies are policies I didn't think i would lose my appointment time. We decided to come in at a later time and it was a really nice atmosphere great ambiance, but when we went for our pedicure we waited over 30 minutes and the ""spa Pedicure"" space was cramped and uncomfortable, for a 50$ pedicure I was disappointed, I've gone and gotten 25$ pedicures and gotten wine and an hour massage. \r
It's a nice looking place but I can't recommend it, unfortunately I was very let down by all the great city search reviews.

the prices are spendy but the ""spa"" is kooky. For pedicures there are no normal facilities. You're sitting on an uncomfortable day bed, your feet are in a bowl of water they they've had to bring out from the back, there's no where to put your feet when you take them out of the bowl. You have to kind of hold your foot up while the pedicure is being done, it's dimly lit and you can't really tell what's going on with your feet. I expected more from a top rated spa with top prices. The quality of the pedicure I received was about at $20 job at the most, not $35.

My daughter got highlights and a wonderful razor styled cut. At school that following Monday, she could not count how many people complimented her. The massage therapists at Kalista are talented and professional. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed. It has more of a SE Portland feel to it (i.e. it's a little eclectic or bohemian). Their massage services are on the expensive side, but they have very flexible schedule options. For instance, they frequently will have specials where they will stay open until midnight.

I have had my fair share of brazillians, (as my mother used to own a spa and salon), and they usually range from the horrendous to the long and uncomfortable. I had my appointment with Jessica at Kalista, and not only did she only take about 17 minutes to do the wax, it was almost painless!! I think it must be a mix of the wax they use and the expertise of Jessica. I have never before written any review on anything, though I use city-search frequently, but I was soooo impressed, I just had to! Also, the decor of the place is just freaking incredible! Beautiful and comfortable and exotic all at once. I loved the little touches like hand towels instead of paper, huge herbal tea and coffee selections, bon bons put out for the customers.. there is too much to tell about this place. I will not go anywhere else now. This is exactly what a day spa should be like.

I went there on my birthday with a friend we got manicures and pedicures and they were great. The gal I had was so sweet and detailed. We were happy with almost everything. The only thing was it was a little chilly in the room we were getting our pedicures and manicures. Also the decor is a little funky, like there was a little too much craft warehouse influence. But overall everyone was super nice and my pedicure lasted forever!

my dog died of 15years and i chose to go to kalsita because they believed in supporting the no sleep (you can not use the K word) foundations. I walked in and it was amazing! I got a massage that was to die for. I loved the staff they were so friendly and nice to be around. Never have i ever experienced a place like this. The decor is beautiful and warm. I got my lashes done at Kalista Salon because they were the first one that popped up when I went online. The girl that put them on was really nice, but she doesn't do a very good job putting on lash extensions. Mine itched really bad and fell off in clumps, taking most of my natural lashes with them. I paid for individual lashes, but the lashes that were coming off were definitely small clumps of lashes. Finally all of them have come off and my lashes are returning back to normal. Overall, the girls were nice, but the service was totally horrible and a big waste of money, time, and nautral lashes.

I had a wonderful experience at Kalista. I have had hair cuts by two different stylists and both did a wonderful job. I was very satisfied with the communication and feedback they gave me. I have also had hi-lights/color and I have to say it's the best I have ever had! Tia is excellent at color! Overall ambiance is great. Everyone is very friendly and easy to talk to. I can't really think of anything negative except for everytime I go the stylist is always running late (30 minutes to an hour). After my experiences with this salon and the high quality of service you receive, it is worth the wait.

I actually fell asleep at one point. You have to try this massage therapist!\r

I've had the same hairstyle for years, when I decided to change it up I wanted to go to a place that would take the time needed to get things done right. Kalista's was that place. I got a full color change and it was amazing how close the color was to the picture I brought in - dead on. Aime was great and she took the time needed to get everything the way I wanted. I recommend this place for anything. Espcecially if you are going to try something new and need someone to take the time necessary to make it look great. And Aime did an awesome job with the new color!!!!

I chose Kalista because the majority of the reviews here are not only favorable, they're down right glowing. Unfortunatly, I did NOT have a similar experience; it started bad and progressively got worse. First, after arriving for my appoinment 15 minutes early I was shown to a back room and asked to complete a questionnaire about my hair, the services I wanted done, etc. I completed the questionnaire and was left to wait. A couple stylists and receptionists passed through the room occasionally, but none said a word to me. I could see there was a coffee/water/tea bar set up in the corner of the room, but it was messy and no one offered me anything as I continued to wait and my appointment time came and went. After waiting for 20 minutes passed my appointment time (a total of 35 minutes since I walked in the door) I was just about to leave when a stylist walked in and asked,""who's here for a cut?"" She didn't even bother to look at her appointments to read my name. Finally in ""the chair"" I told the stylist I did not want to take off any length, an inch at most. Well folks, after a brief 15 minutes, my hair was 4 inches shorter! (and remember that questionnaire they had me fill out - she didn't even glance at it).\r

Now, I know it's only hair and it will grow back...but, it was really hard to be treated so rudely and then to have my hair wacked off. I have NEVER cried over a stupid hair cut before, but I did that day and the next day. \r

Oh, but this story gets even better. I had to wait AGAIN to pay because the receptionists were busy gossiping. I finally asked THEM if I could pay! I called Kalista Salon the next day to talk to the owner or manager, but I should have known they wouldn't care. I was told no one was available, but someone would call me back. I called back later that day to be told the same thing again. \r

If you want a salon that is friendly, inviting, and cuts your hair the way you ask then DO NOT go to Kalista. It was a horrible experience.

Having my hair cut and styled at Kalista was the second worse experience I've ever had at a salon. This place is a joke! An expensive joke -you'll pay once for their so called 'stylist' to give you a cut that's inappropriate for your hair texture and face shape and then you'll have to pay a true professional to perform damage control. Apathy reigns at Kalista Salon. The standard for who they will let operate a chair at this salon is low. Oh ya, and the before and after pictures of their hair extensions are laughable. I simply can't relive the trauma of my salon visit by going into further detail but I can advise you to STAY AWAY FROM KALISTA SALON!!!!!!

Wow, where do I start. I first met Kim (Kalista Salon Owner) back in 2004. I found Kalista through city search trying to look for a great place to try some hair extensions in Portland. I live in WA and usually head to Portland for larger shopping trips (save on tax) and figured I'd throw in some extensions as well. I liked Kalista's reviews and I loved the pics/style of the salon. So I went, and I could not have been happier. First, the salon is awesome. Totally cool vibe there, urban trendy, not stuffy and I liked that. Don't get me wrong, some stuffy salons are fantastic but Kalista was relaxed, upbeat, cool, yet professional. Kim did my extensions which turned out absolutely gorgeous, they made my already blonde hair thicker and longer and I felt like a rock star. My bf's jaw dropped to the floor, he was happy as well. I had never met someone like Kim at any salon I've ever been to. She and I clicked right away and I consider her a great friend, not just a stylist. Over the years I've met many others on her staff (although since Kim did my hair the first time, she does my hair every time) and everyone at the salon is great. It's just such a cool vibe there. Whenever I go I always get my hair done, facial, pedicure, eyelash extensions, and some other new treatment that Kim tells me about. For once, I found a salon owner (not just an employee) that I trust what they are telling me and what it will really do for my hair or skin. No upselling bs, just great products and unbiased advice. I think we'd all like to have a celebrity stylist of our own to tell us all the beauty secrets that we need to know. I've definitely found that in Kim and I will be a client for life. I would highly recommend Kalista Salon.

I would highly recommend this salon. I have lived in four different states in the last five years. I know how hard it is to find a good stylist, especially when you move to a new town. I picked this salon based off of the city search reviews and I am happy to say that they exceeded my expectations. I went into the salon wanting a more natural color and to change my hair style a little bit. Kim did an amazing job. She made suggestions and asked me to trust her. My hair has never actually had volume, but with my new cut I can't believe the difference. There were two other stylists working at the same time and every customer left happy while I was in the salon.

She evolves my style over time, so I know I'm not going to end up with a 10-year-old hairstyle ""because that's what we've always done."" I have gone to Kalista for several months. I selected Kalista because it was very close to my work. I get highlights(blonde) and Amy is the stylist I see. It's very hard to find someone that you can trust with color, but she does a wonderful job! I wouldn't change now. She is professional, yet is sensitive to what I want done with my hair. I wouldn't go anywhere else now. I like the atmosphere of Kalista and appreciate the vibe that they have there. First of all, let me start by saying I don't know anyone that works at this salon. I have never been at Kalista salon or know anybody who has. But I will tell you the following. I am in the beauty industry myself, hairstylist/owner. I have been reading these reviews for quite awhile, and I like to think they are from customers or potential customers. But in this case, no. It is obvious to me and I am sure other people this is a terminated former employee writing some of these reviews. Customers or future customers depend on Citysearch for honest reviews, not some vindictive former employee. What this individual is doing is shameful and unethical. I am sure she is not thinking of her former coworkers when she writes these hateful reviews impersonating a customer. What has happened at their salon between staff andowner I will never know, but it is embarassing to be in an industry with such a pitiful human being. Future customers please note, most of hairstylists take great pride in our industry. We strive to create a balance of fun and artistry with each client. I was hoping when I found this salon, after walking by there one day, that I had possibly found a new salon that I would want to go to regularly. I also believe in trying to give the smaller ""mom & pop"" places my business versus larger chains. But unfortunately this was not the case. I have never written a ""Review"" about any business or product, so needless to say the fact that I am writing this review really says something significant about Kalista's Salon. As I walked into the salon I was greeted by the host and was walked back into this back room to fill out this questionnaire. I found myself answering questions, that I felt weren't realy all that pertainant but figured, what the heck. Since my appointment was for half past the hour, I was about five to ten minutes early, and waited patiently. But then 10-15 minutes passed and still no one came back to check on me. This was a bit perplexing since there was no one else getting their haircut, when I had initially walked into the salon. I just heard alot of talking from the room next door.\r
Then another 15 minutes passed and still no one came back to see me! I have never left a place for this reason, for getting ""NO SERVICE"". I politely went to the front desk and waited again for another 5 minutes before I was helped.\r
Then I did tell one of the staff what had happened and she politely said that I could re-schedule my appointment. I calmly told her I would never come back here again. So unless you have alot of time to kill/waste and don't mind being ignored, definitely give this place a try. Hope you have better luck than I did.\r

This is my favorite hair salon in Portland, the staff is friendly and the hair experts always listen to where you want to go with your hair. They don't say ""it can't be done"". I had died my naturally light hair black with home dye and three previous salons I visited to take it back to blond told me it could only be done over several months and with an expenditure of large amounts of money. I walked out of Kalista in one session with a nice blond shade and my hair was not damaged or straw-like. One more session of highlighting achieved the tone I was looking for and I didn't have to spend massive amounts of money to get there. I would suggest Kalista to anyone looking for color correction.

Never have I experienced a Salon that talked so miserably about one another! The atmosphere is unprofessional at best and the employees need ALOT of counseling on ""getting along with fellow co-workers"" It's very sad to see how they talk about each other and didn't matter that they had a client in the chair. Outward gossiping, heated conversations and talking about other clients, is NOT professional. I can just imagine what they said about me, when I left the Salon. Since my appointment, I have commented to friends and family, and have heard comments how I should have talked to them first. They wouldn't recommend the Salon to anyone, because of the dysfunctionality the employees present to the public. My services?? HORRIBLE and overpriced. Going to a Salon should be a relaxing experience and it was anything but that. I have no quams paying high prices, if the service warrants it, but this was a very poor example of a High End Salon.

I was kept waiting for half an hour past my appointment time and then turned to a different hair stylist (if you can call her that) because he had other plans. Had root touch up and highlights. Highlights hid the fact that my roots were still gray a 1/4 inch from my scalp! Was turned away from the mirror while she chopped my hair all to hell ( absolutely did not look anthing like the picture I showed her). So I'm out $105.00 and look like ?%#*. Will never return and will never refer anyone to this nightmare salon. No wonder the place is mostly decorated in shades of red it should be called HAIR HELL SALON!!!!

I went to this place thinking that I would get a good eyebrow wax because of the name and the location and their reputation. I was wrong! The girl that did my brows did her thing and then she kept looking at me strangely and said "" i'm just going to put some of this brow powder on to fill in and shape your brows."" so I thought maybe this was the reason for the heavy stares. But it turns out that she was looking at me funny because she had taken waaaaay too much off of one of my eyebrows from the middle so they both started at completely different places. My eyebrows were COMPLETELY asymetrical and I looked like a freak. She had tried to fill the empty space with brow powder and had failed miserably. This incident happened about a year ago. My eyebrows still aren't the same. I'm sure that there are many great esthitician at this salon but mine was terrible. Sorry I can't remember her name. my advise: do it yourself (beside bushy eyebrows are coming back in! haha )

My whole family came here for mother's day. Three of us had massages and two people got pedicures, and everyone left happy and relaxed. There was some confusion around who wanted which services and the staff bent over backwards on a very busy saturday to accommodate us. Plus, it was seriously the best massage of my life! The products are wonderful--they didn't leave me feeling greasy or smelling strongly of salon oils. Definitely check this place out. I hope to get another massage there soon!

The overall atmosphere of this spa is pleasant, but Kalista really should invest in spa pedicure chairs. Sitting on a hard piece of wood covered with a cloth drape with only pillows for back support just doesn?t make it possible to relax and enjoy the pedicure experience. The soaking bowls are fairly small and the water cools very rapidly. The technician was pleasant, but she failed to clean under nails, which seemed quite unusual. She did a very careful job on the polish which is great. Most of the products used were fine, especially the grainy exfoliant, but the lotion/cuticle oil mixture used for massage was much too heavy. I did not see the use for the ?wrap? and would have been much happier to have had more foot and calf massage (20-30 minutes as high as the knee rather than just to mid-calf.) Definitely not worth $50. I expect clean nails and good massage.

My job is to go around and rate my experience at a specific salon or spa after we have recieved a complaint. Kalista was one of my destinations. To be honost with you, I have never had a better color since I have lived in Portland(and I have had A LOT) The stylists name was Aime, she was fantastic!! She took her time and made sure I was absolutly satisfied before she let me out of her chair, thats rare in this industry. She truely cares about the client. Thanks Aime you earned Kalista a wonderful rating and review. Although my job is to get service done at a different salon everytime, I will definately return to have her fix my bad experiences from other salons. I will highly recommend her to others!! Also the receptionist was great too!

Janelle did my color today and it's perfect. She listened, she asked question, she made suggestions.....she totally got it. I'm so impressed with her and the salon. Great energy, excellent customer care, awesome atmosphere. I made an appointment for Janelle to cut my hair in a couple of weeks and I will absolutely try out many of the other services the salon offers. I loved it and HIGHLY recommend it. I have been going to kalista for some time now and decided to add to the already existing facials i have been getting the new lumiere (photo facial) this system is awesome!!! I did all my treatments and now i have almost no wrinkles left. I wanted to do the thermage and Kim encouraged me to at least try this. I highly recommend taking what ever advise the estheticans say they know there stuff and this machine is fantastic. I will be doing this treatment forever. It works and i look so much better and my skin is so much softer.

I went into Kalistas to get acrylic nails put on for my birthday. I left the salon happy, but after only a few days the nails were lifting on the sides and I had noticed how uneven they were. I called Kalista's, mostly to give the management a head's up to the poor quality work I received there - I was totally preparing to go somewhere else to get the nails fixed. But the person I spoke with on the phone immediately apologized and booked me an appointment that weekend with Kim, who I believe is the owner. She took one glance at my nails and said, Oh, I see what you mean, and went to work fixing them. Not one person second-guessed me, bad mouthed the first nail tech I went to, or acted like the mistake was mine (all experiences I've had in salons!) Kim even encouraged me to speak up right away if she was doing something to my nails I didn't like. She does beautiful work (wihtout drills!!!) and I was very impressed by how my complaint was handled by the salon. I'll definitely be going back for fills!

I'd been thinking about thermal hair straightening for a couple of years but finally took the plunge when a friend recommended Kim for both price and quality of work. I'd read a lot of horror stories on line about the process in general, and the importance of the stylist being experienced and skilled. I have to admit I was pretty worried that I might be sacrificing quality for dollars. But, I was quickly reassured and impressed with Kims knowledge of the process (and hair in general) and how quickly, tho carefully, she completed it. \r
The first week or 2 was an adjustment. After living with bushy, frizzy hair for 40+ yrs, I felt kinda like a pinhead for a while- it was like someone elses hair on my head. But now I'm hooked and don't know what I'd do if I had to go back to my old hair. Kim did a great job, was fun and friendly, didn't unnecessarily push expensive products or treatments-just instructed me on how to care for my own hair. I waited a month after the process, just to be sure I didn't wake up some morning with all my hair fallen out or frizzy again. But, I have to say, it only looks better as time goes on- shinier and healthier than it's ever been! Thanks Kim!

However the reason i continue to go is because the owner is a one man opperation who believes in people and her salon. She is dedicated and is always there. The turn over was from what i know because the gossip of the employees had to stop and they had to go. The talent is there, I've seen it. These people are great!!! and Kim and her staff are wonderful. DONT let these neg write ups deture you from going. More then likely they are the old employees writing them, they are angry and that is why they no longer are there. This salon is magical. Forever a client

I loved this place at first -- but after 3 stylists leaving b/c of management issues, I'm done. And I'm really not surprised they left. I can count at least 3 times when I have witnessed in person or over the phone yelling, screaming, gossiping and just overall unprofessional behavior (always from management). I stuck with it for a while b/c I love the ambiance and one of the (former, I guess?) co-owners did a great job of working with me and balancing out the place's attitude -- but it seems he cashed out with the last round of exits as well. I suggest that, if you go there and like a stylist, get their outside number because the liklihood is that they won't be there when you want a new appointment. It's sad, b/c I think it's a great place. I just think the management needs to get some help -- personal, professional -- whatever -- as you can tell by the responses over the past few months (vs. before)... the trend is currently down hill. If I see honest responses to this issue -- perhaps on the website or on this site, from management, I will consider going back. I will not frequent a place, however, that I don't believe respects its talent. One person does not a full salon make, no matter how pretty the decor.

My sister and I came into Kalista yesterday and had the BEST experience. Kim did my hair and the cut and color is by far the best that I have ever had, hands down. She was so personable and friendly and made me feel very comfortable. \r

My sister's hair was done by Janelle. What a fabulous sylist!!!! She was a brunette going in and wanted to look like a natural blonde and the outcome was unreal. All night last night people kept coming up to her and asking to touch her hair because it looked like it could have been a really expensive extension session. My sisters hair is extremely thick and it took over 5 hours to do- Janelle was friendly the entire time.\r

Next I had a massage by Grace. ABSOLUTE HEAVEN!!!! She was very well informed on many different aspects of the body, internally and externally. This is the second time I had a massage from her and it gets better everytime.\r

I then had a facial by Natalie. I've had many facials over the years (never at Kalista) and this was the best facial I have ever had. My skin looks so beautiful and feels like a brand new baby does. She also was very knowledgable on proper vitamins and skin care. I felt fabulous.\r

FYI, I originally found Kalista through an article in PDX Magazine. I originally went in to have a Brazillian, which I had never had done before. Needless to say, I was scared. Kim made me feel calm and at ease and made the pain minimal. I then started having her do my hair and I won't have anyone else touch it. I recently moved to Seattle and gladly make the drive back for my upkeep. The staff there is truly wonderful. 5 stars out of 4!!!

I got a modified MULLET haircut from some girl that had been in town for one week from San Diego, and two months later I am still mortified every morning when I get ready for work! My *new* hairdresser told me he doesn't usually bad-talk other hair ""stylists"" but this Kalista hairdresser chopped my beautiful red long hair! This final new girl from San Diego was one of THREE newbies that had just blown into town and started working immediately at Kalista's and has cut my hair. The first one with dreads from Chicago was good, but she moved away and I was never notified until I showed up for my next appointment. It's been a train wreck at this salon for me ever since. I will NEVER return and I highly suggest nobody who likes their hair go there until management changes their hiring practices. I'm tired of being shuffled around to newbies. P.S. I love how the responses to criticism on this website from Kalista management is so defensive. Obviously, there is a problem and management, rather than try to fix the problem, just ignores poor service criticism or defends it. Yeah, poor you. You're not the one walking around with a modified mullet from some fresh beauty school graduate pretending to be a professional!\r

P.P.S. Like another reviewer, I too have heard trash talk from stylists while having my hair cut. Another great example of defensive and clueless management. And no, I don't know the original poster! I don't want to know anyone from this place!

I came into Kalista as a refferal and one of my friends told me i would love it. I actually was the one that found them on the internet and had my friend go in before me. She was mad about the entire expearience. It is nothing you would imagin. Ive heard that before. But this place is a dream away. I loved everything about it. I got my hair done by the owner of which i was nervious about but she did such a fantastic job. Then went to the back and got lashes done. Fabulous!! Bravo..... You have to see it for yourself

I had a bad experience at Kalista involving a clumsy and careless lash extension tech who poked me with a lance, dripped glue in my eyes, and dropped a tool on me causing a slight injury. When I wrote a letter to the owners to tell them about it, they never responded at all. No apology, no offer to correct the problem, no refund - nothing. That shows me that they couldn't care less about how their customers are treated. If you go here, I hope your experience is good, because if it isn't, no one at Kalista wants to hear it.

This salon is so beautiful. Highly recommend for there customer service and creativity. The owner is a warm and friendly person. The staff seems to be very knowledgable. The massage beds were warm and cozy with goose down comforters on them. I really didn't want to leave. They make you feel at home.

Unprofessional staff, and little talent to speak of. I had seen some of Kalista's advertising, which looked enticing, so I went in for a cut and highlights. The owner did my highlights. I said light brown, but please please please no blonde. I came out a blonde. No apologies, just, ""Hon, I think it looks great."" I expressed the fact that I was unhappy and she told me to try it out and she would fix it if I still didnt like it. I gave it a couple of days, hated it, but didnt want to be the customer that they bitched about while working (which they do a lot of I noticed... extremely unprofessional) so I went elsewhere and had it fixed. The cut was decent, but nothing to rave about. I gave them one more shot six weeks later, went to a different stylist, came out completely frustrated and upset. No on listens when you tell them what you are looking for. I don't think ""side swept bangs"" can be confused with ""blunt bob."" Pretty angry. Won't go back. Will tell my friends and family to avoid.

Talent is mild to speak of... These people are amazing. My wedding was the most beautiful experience i could have hoped for. Kim and her staff did all my girls hair and makeup, and made them beautiful. We had our pre party here in the day spa and it was the best time my girls had ever had in a party environment. I have been coming to this salon for 6months, and all they have ever done is treat me great. I do get offered coffee or tea each time I come in. The owner is very pleasant to everyone. The staff is very nice. The space is very beautiful. The receptionist is extremely courteous. If they are running late one of the other staff people always give you another service for no charge. I have never heard any one bad mouth anyone or talk neg. at all for that matter. People are always positive there. That is why I do come there I love the way I am treated. I have recommended allot of my friends here. They are great people and the neg reviews I have read only concerns me because most of what is written if you see for yourself you will see it?s not true I have to ask myself if they have ever even been in this salon. My sister and I moved here from the bay area and we both have agreed that we wish a salon like this was there. I have never made it a practice to ever write a review but when I say what was on this review I am shocked. It sounds very suspect to be honest. Kim is a great person from what I have seen and her staff reflects it. Please don't listen to the neg. Just visit and you will see what I have seen.

the salon is designed so beautiful. The staff is so nice, I was offered coffee or tea. Taken to a beautiful waiting area. I came in for my extensions. My friends and I came here the day of my wedding, and everyone had a fantastic time. The room in the back where we were taken is calming and relaxing -- we felt like we were hanging out in a friend's comfy living room as we got our pedicures and manicures. We were completely taken care of -- with water, juices, etc. And Kim, the owner, did a wonderful job with my hair, which she styled after asking me some basic questions about my likes and dislikes. She told me to trust her; I did, and was very happy with the results. It was a completely stress-free experience!

I went to this salon to get a brow wax for the 9.00 that they had advertised it for. And i really thought i was just going to go to some so so place. Julie i think her name was, she is the one that did my brows and they were great! And the salon was beautiful. The people were friendly and the front desk was extremely nice. While the building is neat with fun and funky decoration, I paid $50 for an average pedicure. The pedicurist went through the basic steps but was sloppy in her steps, almost burning a hole in my skin with her brisk filing. The foot/leg massage was only a brisk 2 minutes. Also, there aren't any massage chairs to sit in or jetted tubs to put your feet in, just draped chairs and bowls of water. While the people were sweet and the service was decent, it was definitely not a $50 pedicure. Going elsewhere int he future.

I got all my hair cut off because my hairdresser thought it was a good idea (not kalista) I hated it. I explored all my options, i had the weave put in and also tryed the wefts that are glued in a long strand. disaster!!! I found out from a friend that there was another type of extension individuals. So I tryed them. Kimberly did my hair and i look amazing!!! I really cant thank this spa and salon enough. You cant even tell i have extensions at all. I feel beautiful again.

Ive been going to Kalista for 5 years now for many of the services they have to offer one being the eyebrows. I love how mine always turn out, Yes sometimes they are different then the last but that is the convienience of coming in last minute and getting an inexpensive brow wax. The place is beautiful and really nothing to complain about. It concerns me that something so tiny would urge someone to write something neg. I went to Kalista twice to get my eyebrows waxed. The first time I went I had a woman who was incredibly rude to me, seemingly because I told her about a bad experience I had had at another salon. She did a pretty good job on my eyebrow wax though, and even though I was very taken aback by her attitude, I decided to go back because she did a good job and it was cheap. \r

The last time I went, the lady who did my waxing was nice, but she ruined my eyebrows. I had to ask her to wax the area in between my brows and she still didn't get the hair. I had to go home and pluck, and besides that, she decided to ""take off a little here and there"" and now after years of overplucking, and then growing out a spot of hair, she waxed it OFF and my eyebrows are completely uneven!!! My arches don't match anymore either! This place is not worth your time or money.

I have been wanting to get my hair thermal straightened for a long time. I saw a friend of mine that i havent seen for some time and she had straight hair. I asked her what she did. She said she went to kalista to get the straightening service done and it was awesome. So i called made an appointment and I got the straightening done as well. My hair is like silk now. It is so soft and straight. They are wonderful!!!! hands down. I later went in and got a highlight done on top of the thermal straightening and that is why i am even writing this because my hair is still in fantastic shape. and the highlights look great. I literally just walked in the door from my massage and I am in complete bliss..(writing does not even seem possible at the moment) I received a ninety minute massage from Grace. Not only was her touch and pressure perfect, but she was also extremely knowledgeable about after care. As for the Spa itself, enchanting. The decor is so mystical it takes you to another world. I also had the chance to meet the owners (who actually ""work"" there, which is pretty hard to find nowadays) and they were helpful and sincere....the receptionist was even sweet:) First time there...will be back very soon.

Everytime i go anywhere to get my hair done the same thing is always said...if i do that your hair will fall off. So I took my friends recomendation and went to Kalista and the first thing i asked for was highlights over my very dark hair and the first thing they said to me is not problem. I will strengthen the ends first and we can give you the highlights you want. One of the other stylist also helped so the lift would be even. They work as a team and family and my hair was exactly what i always wanted and IT DID NOT FALL OUT!!!!! I knew it would have to take alot more then some highlights to melt off my hair and you know what, what ever technique they did my hair is wonderful. I didnt actually get a massage yet. I did meet the massage therapist and she was such a joy. the space is beautiful, and very relaxing. I agree that Ernest and Kim are both very charming people and the staff was very friendly. The atmosphere is relaxing and eclectic... down-to-earth-upscale might be a good term. Two of my friends were extremely impressed and just loved the whole exprience but I felt there was a lack of professionalism... when I arrived for my hair appointment they had no record of it and needed to reschedule for another time... (yes these things happen and it's not the end of the world but I don't like to spend my limited spare time running back and forth to appointments). Also for a Lumiere facial I was given the products and had to apply them myself! As well as let myself into the room and turn on the lumiere machine. Maybe I'm being too picky but when I see ""spa"" on the door and spend over $200.00 I expect to sit in a chair and forget about life for an hour.

I decided to suprise him with a couples massage. When we got there we told them we were both getting a massage at the same time. They asked if we wanted the couples room so we could be together. I know from experiance first most salons would never ask they would just seperate you and they didn't they treated us just like a real couple with no weird vibes. this was the most fantastic massage we have ever had. The best part is i felt like a couple it was romantic and not weird at all. We are going here for ever. Great people. You can tell the management has spirit and heart. Kim and her staff at Kalista have been a true godsend! Thanks to them and the wonders of Japanese hair straightening, (they are absolutely the BEST in town--no holds barred when it comes to this procedure, not to mention affordable). My hair has never felt healthier or stronger. I'd been hooked for the better part of my 40+ years to the usual reverse perm treatments which more often than not ended up with a good deal of my hair in the sink. But hey--it was straight, so I made the sacrifice. Then I found Japanese Hair Straightening and ended up keeping ALL my hair! People often balk at the initial cost but they rarely do the math. Over the course of a year, I would normally spend close to $80 every other month for the traditional straightening treatment. I was spending up to $480 a year.\r

Here is the kicker.....I was there for a haircut. You would never know it, it seemed as i spent the day at the spa. And my hair cut was great. This is a great team of people. I really liked the way i was able to freely talk and get help with the concerns i have had about my skin. Jane you're great. very friendly.

Before visiting Kalista salon I jumped between salons and even dabbled in self-coloring for awhile... After my first visit to Kalista I knew I was hooked! Kim kept the salon open until 10pm to get my hair fixed and always has an extremely flexible schedule. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the products are great, and I love my hair every time I walk out the door. The stylists are wonderful at working with you to create a cut and color that are both flattering and maintainable for whatever your needs. Highly recommended!

Im greated by a wonderful receptionist that takes me back to a beautiful waiting area. She offers me something to drink. brings the water out in a wine glass. The waiting area has a large screen tv playing an old movie, the lights are soothing and relaxing. A Massage therapist comes out to great me asking me if i would like a complementry Massage. After my massage I am taken to my new hairdresser where we spent the first 15 min talking about who i was, she gave me a great cut and style. I have always wanted a place like this to go, only i thought i could only get it in hawaii or in some expesive salon, this is not the case, So affordable. So great. This place is heaven. I just want to stay all day long. If you havent already this is a place worth visiting\r

These girls are great! They are so nice and sweet and would only do anything they could to do something nice for you. Kim is my hairdresser however i have always loved the interaction with the other girls and the spa staff they always come around and chat with everyone. And it is unfortunate that people need to write up such hurtful things and make more out of nothing. I am writing to defend them. they are fantastic and everyone is very kind. They may not be the average hairdresser or waxing person and that is what makes them so real and true. It breaks my heart that they would even have such things said about them. I have heard that alot of there clients are going to there defense about the right up and i am one of those clients. Dont anyone listen to the neg things said about them. They are a fantastic group of people and they are the friendliest staff ever. I have seriously never been to a nicer place. The stylist are a breath of fresh air. They are so nice and energetic, funny and a blast. I laughed the entire time. However i am writing this because i did notice the reviews that people said about them. They do not talk about anyone in that salon they may comment on a funny thing but never outright talk neg about anyone. They really seem fully spirited and wonderful. It just seems to me after reading the reviews they seem to angry. I really like my hairdresser and it really does bother me that this was said, much less posted. life is too short to trash other people. I love this place. I really think you should give it another try.

I have read some of the negative reviews about this salon and I must say that I strongly disagree. I have visited the salon on three occassions for hair and nails and I was very impressed with the service I received and the overall attitude of the employees there. There is a very cheery and positive vibe in the atmosphere there and I was pleased with the results I got. I would definetely recommend this salon to anyone who enjoys a good salon experience.

For years I have come to see Kim at Kalista and she has always been there for me. Kalista has helped me through a car accident and two surgeries. The company that her and Ernest have put together never ceases to amaze me. They always go above and beyond my expectations, and they do so in the most kindhearted way. I get my massages, hair, and waxing there and everyone always treats me like I am the most special person in the room. When I go to Kalista, it's hard for me to leave.

Ok, so I heard about someone disliking Kalista and I am shocked!!! I am the type to make last minute appointments, and Kalista always finds a way to fit me in. They always try so hard to make me happy, and to be honest, I love the attention! As a matter of fact, I'll tell you a story of something that I witnessed: This older lady was getting her hair done while my wife was getting her hair colored. The lady had one of those metal walkers, so I guess she had a bad back; I heard someone mention surgery. Anyway, I hear part of a quiet conversation about the manager getting her a present. About 10 minutes later, he shows up with three birthday cakes singing Happy Birthday to this lady! About 10 customers, along with myself and my wife joined in eating the cakes! The lady was crying and thanking everyone! I've never seen a company go so far out of their way for a customer's happiness - especially for an older lady who I doubt is going to go to a party/club and bring back 20 more customers. I believe that the true test is how you treat people who will not benefit you in return. After seeing this, my wife will not CONSIDER any place other than Kalista. Ya know what, I'm sold too.

I went into Kalista for the first time today. My daughter bought me a gift certificate for a spa day. I went in and had a massage, pedicure, and a facial. The ambience in the this salon is absolutly amazing. I would have never thought that there would be a spa so big by looking at it from the outside. It was very relaxing with low lighting, and candles were lit around the whole spa. I had my massage first and the man who gave my massage did a great job. I then had a facial which was just as amazing. The woman(I forget her name) was very sweet. She kept me very well informed and showed me how to use certain products at home. I topped it all off with a pedicure. This was by far the best spa experience I've ever had. I can't seem to understand the bad reviews about the staff because they were all verypolite and respectful to me. My daughter told me about Kalista. She's been going there for about a year now. I can't wait to go back for my haircut and body wrap next week.

So I am a hairdresser at [a local salon] because I am under a time contract, so basically I have to stay until my time is up. I know the industry and how a lot of places in town are very shady. I get my spa services at Kalista SalonSpa because it's the best that Portland has to offer. I have met the owners and they seem to be genuinely nice people. The esthetician that I go to (Julie) has never once let me down. She always makes sure that my brazilian is perfect, and my significant other appreciates that just as much as I do! They use natural products, and I really appreciate that because I know how hard it is to train and work with natural products. It takes a certain type of expertise that few possess. My therapist is also top-notch. I don't even want to say their name because I want to keep them for myself! My massages are always wonderful, and since I'm an avid tennis player on the weekends, I need a good therapist. Take it from someone who knows the industry, Kalista has the best talent in PDX.

I live in the neighborhood and liked the look. Called and made an appointment for hair cut and pedicure. Terrible pedicure ( I have had many). After 6 days, the polish actually slid off the nail in one piece. The water in the bowl was freezing. The volume in the salon is excruiating. The stylists try to out talk each other and get louder and louder. Back biting, nasty gossip about clients and former coworkers. Worst salon experience ever!

The first time I went in I got to experience hearing someone geeting a Brazilian wax for the first time. Although it was amusing, it wasn't a relaxing enviroment while having black dye on your eyes. The dye was OK that time, so I went back. The second time, she had her assistent do it for the first time, I might add. I looked like a raccoon, with GREY lashes. I went back to get it fixed and she got a severe attitude. They are Unproffessional and could have cared less about me or my lashes. STAY AWAY from thier facility if that is what you have in mind.

I got a waxing there and woman who did it was very nice- she was the plus. The wax itself wasn't anything exceptional.
I got my nails done and the nail tech was VERY unfriendly. She didn't introduce herself, she just said ""Are you getting your nails done?"" and started walking off. I had to run after her to see where she was going AFTER she was 30 minutes late. She gave me acrylics, and less than a week later, they were chipping. They charged me $60 for acrylics that would not even last a week! Most other places only charge $30 and they last WAY longer. I was uncomfortable the whole time the woman did my nails because she was so rude and seemed miserable to be there.

I went there for a hair cut and color. Not only did Trish do a fantastic job but I also had fun while I was there. I usually dred going to the salon and having to make mindless chit chat but the whole stafff was so down to earth, it was like just hanging out with friends. After my hair was done I got a tour of the rest of the spa, they've done a great job decorating and I can't wait to go back and try their other services.

I haven't tried too many of their services, but I found the staff to be very friendly and very easy to get along with. As other people have said, it was like being with my friends. I've been going to Kim at Kalista for the past several years and I won't let anyone else touch my hair. Kim's focus is on client satisfaction and she exceeds my standards every time I visit. She seems to know instantly (and instinctively) what style, i.e., cut, color, etc., will work and it always turns out beautifully. I trust her completely; if she suggests a new style, I don't hesitate to try it out. She cuts my kids' hair too and they love going ""to see Kim"" (even my 10 year old son, who detested getting his hair cut before Kim started doing it). Visiting Kalista is always a soothing break from my busy life and I feel so great, and pampered, when I walk out the door after an appointment.

This salon was recommended to me by a friend, and I was very disappointed. Not only was my haircut not what I asked for but I was forced to listen to the employees bad mouth other clients whom had just recently left the salon. I would be mortified to think that things might have been said about me. It is very unprofessional and shows a huge lack of respect. The owner and the employees really need to reevaluate their behavior and realize who pays their bills.

Had my hair done here after reading these reviews. First off, the place is decorated like they were on a 100$ budget...the colors are bright and obnoxious...not exactly the ""spa"" feel I was looking for. Secondly, the entire time they did my hair they were talking to one another in VERY high voices about their love lives...my nerves were frazzled by the end of the hour. Lastly, the stylist had no idea how to straighten my curly hair, and simply applied a ton of product so that it was a frizzy, sticky mess.

They are all so nice, Julie gave me a facial after Kim my stylist recomended it to me and she is the most wonderful person, the facial was and hour and a half and the products where amazing. They then gave me a free treatment in this machine Lumiere, a photofacial light therapy that tightens skin. How great is that. I got a package to continue my treatments because the results where amazing. Thank you Kim and Julie Both of you are excellent.

I had something come up and needed to get in immediately. I called and crossed my fingers. They were so courteous and helpful. They got me in the next morning at 10:00! My stylist, Gina, was the best. She asked me lots of questions to make sure she knew exactly what I wanted. By the time we got started I was totally at ease and I just let her go. For the first time in my life I left the salon with the haircut and color that I wanted. Go see Gina!

The salon performed Japanese straightening on my hair after assuring me I was a good candidate. Throughout the three hour, 350$ (plus a generous tip) process they kept saying how straight and smooth my hair was going to be and how it would ""change my life."" But in reality, unless I blow dry and straighten it with an iron, about 75% is a frizzy, dull, brittle mess...except for the top three pin straight inches. I can't even comb through my hair without it tangling up and coming out in clumps....in certain areas it is even curlier than before (think poodle hair!). When I called they, scheduled a half hour appointment with me, to ""take a look at it"" so I concluded there was absolutely nothing they were going to do...nor were they the slightest bit sympathetic or accomodating.

I've been going to Dosha for over a year now, and a friend told me about Kalista and wow! I visited with my girlfriend and we got couples massages and pedicures together.(she has a thing for pedicures!) Heather and Sendy were great! We got to meet the owners, and we loved the fact that it's locally owned. They have very great specials going on, so we came out more economical than expected, even after my girlfriend got eyelash extensions! I didn't know that a salonspa could be fun AND relaxing. We walked past someone getting hair extensions, so now my girlfriend wants them too! Normally parking seems impossible in Portland, so I was impressed with the ease of parking. I even got extra points for getting my girlfriend a bouquet of flowers at their flower shop! We had a great day and will definitely return soon.

Gina cut my hair. She took the time to talk with me about what I was looking for, and what my options were based on the amount of time I was willing to spend on my hair each day. I am getting married in 6 weeks, and Gina did a really nice job. --- Follow up--- I just chopped all my hair off now that the wedding is over. I told Gina to do whatever she wanted, and I have a hair cut that I love. I have had two great experiences so far, and I will continue to go back. Personally I hate spending $35 for a hair cut, but that is just because I come from the MidWest, and the same hair cut at an upscale salon is $25. But that is just what it costs out here, and Kalista has been worth it so far!

I found Kalista salon online and went there for a brazillian waxing. I have had a waxing like this before and it was quick (about 20 minutes) and not very painful. My experience here was the opposite. It was a horrible experience as it took an extremely unpleasant HOUR of them stripping and tweezing all for them to charge way too much for it and for they didn't even do a decent job. It now looks as though I am badly sunburnt down there and I'm kicking myself for paying so much for such a poorly done job. Granted, the esthetician was very nice but the wax she was using was awful. I do NOT recommend this place for waxing under any circumstances. As I was leaving I also noticed some of the hair stylists being pretty rude to their customers, which was a big turn off for me.

Scheduled a haircut for Saturday a.m. Arrived a few minutes early. Stylist was not in yet. Waited patiently. Although others were in salon both with customers and unoccupied, no one offered a glass of water or anything as I continued to wait. Stylist never called, never showed. One staff member said she comes from Vancouver and could be having traffic issues (it was Saturday at 10 a.m.! Bah!). No one offered to reschedule or to put me on someone else's schedule. After 45 minutes I left never to return.
The owner and her cohorts yammered incessantly about themselves and their love lives with little concern for their client's comfort or satisfaction.

I picked Kalista because of it's environment. I want to go to a salon that feels like a home away from home. It is cozy-but still ""hip"". There where more than enough friendly employee's to answer any questions I had. Gina did a great job with my hair that had not been cut in 3 years! She was a good person to chit chat with and I felt perfectly relaxed with my hair in her ""hands"". I am the type of person that equivates going to a salon to going to the dentists, but I am sure I will feel 100 times less apprehensive to get a haircut. My next visit I am positive I will be getting my hair straightened or to buy a (decent)straightening iron/haircut. i love the fact that they are open til nine, cause I am not always a ""day"" person.

I know that this review will probably just be taken off of this site, but for what it is worth - I would not recommend the hair salon at Kalista. I found it to be pretentious and overpriced. My appointment took 2 hours longer than I was told it was going to and cost $20 more than I was quoted over the phone. The hair stylist didn't listen to what I wanted. The only good thing was that the guy at the front desk was nice.

I had a full pedicure, a rare and wonderful treat, and KG's talents above and beyond any experience I've had. She spent over an hour, included a parafin dip that felt amazing, used a peppermint scrub that was out of this world, and left me feeling glamourous and gorgeous when we were done! After a long and extensive search online for a salon, I found Kalista. I was looking for a place that had talented, skilled hair stylists but wouldn't cost me a fortune, was earth and health conscious, and fashionably creative. I was very satisfied with my experience. The atmosphere is unostentatious and friendly. I was full of anxiety about cutting my very long hair, but ANDREA made me feel so comfortable, I relaxed. She was incredibly patient with me. It's nice to find a stylist that will really listen to you and won't push services or product just to make money! My husband absolutely loves my new hair style. He won't stop touching it! I come here at least once a week. Every one is very friendly. As soon as I walk in I feel relaxed. I highly recommend the 1 1/2 hour swedish massage.

This was definately the most relaxing time I've ever had. They have a very cozy relaxing atmosphere. My massage therapist was really nice, and gave me a fabulous massage. Best of all they take walk ins, so I can just show up anytime to get a massage.

Great ambiance, very relazing and not too snooty - I love the feel of the place. The staff was awesome. I had some waxing done and it was a virtually painless experience. I'm definitely going back and recommending this place to friends!
