La Boulange de Columbus brings organic breads, French pastries and desserts to the heart of North Beach. Just blocks from Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown, the cafe features all-day brunch, open face sandwiches, hearty salads and homemade soups. Serving only organic coffee & espresso, La Boulange is a perfect pick me up!
La Boulange de Columbus is SO MUCH BETTER THAN STARBUCKS.

I frequently visit this cafe when I am in Frisco. The coffee is always fantastic, and the various pastries are also excellent. Be sure to try the quiche!

Excellent choice for a bite to eat. La Boulange hits it out of the park with their food. Favorites include their bread - always fresh - and their soup - just out of this world! First class all the way around.

lavander macaron is waaay too sweet!
by partaaaay
Besides the parking (quelle horreur!) this place serves food that is quelle yum all the way. I like how the food is cheap, but still very good. The smidgeons of salad here and there to help unclog a tiny portion of your artery helps too since good heaves, the food is just so delectably good!!! My favorite are their savory tarts and crocques. The french onion soup is just so-so, no biggie, btw. And the lavander macaron is waaay too sweet!

coffee as it should be served...in bowls
by framboise1
I was thrilled to receive my cafe au lait in a bowl; it reminded me of time spent in France. The atmosphere was very relaxing. The staff were very personable. The service table was well stocked and offered butter, apricot (my fave) and raspberry jam, as well as a large jar of Nutella. The Tropezienne was wonderful and I have confidence that all other pastries they may offer in the future will be just as delightful. French onion was the daily special soup offering; it was pretty good and the portion generous at a mere $5/bowl. Seating was comfortable but the vacated tables could have been bussed more diligently (promptly); many customers (including myself) pushed plates/cups/saucers/glasses to adjacent un-bussed tables in order to dine. Other than my previous remark, I recommend this cafe; the experience was positive overall!
Pros: Traditional cafe atmosphere
Cons: More attention needed in table clearing/bussing

Nice bakey, good bread, not enough pastries
by glunardi
This is a local coffee, the bread is definitely good. We enjoyed our drinks as well. Ordered regular coffee, latte and tea and they were all good (difficult to miss you would argue but still...).
I was looking forward to fresh French viennoiserie but was a little disappointed at the selection. Nonetheless we had bread and some pastry. We enjoyed our take away breakfast .
We didn't try the sandwiches but they seemed quite tasty. Will probably go back if the opportunity presents itself. At least for the bread. You should be prepared to face a line when you arrive (we certainly were not alone).
Parking could prove to be a little challenging, had to drive around the block a few times.
When: Breakfast on June, 17th 2007
Pros: Bread quality, pastries
Cons: Viennoiserie selection, parking

This is a very sweet little cafe. Yummy sandwiches, fresh bakery items and very good service. I haven't tried their salads yet, but they always look tasty and fresh. Great coffee as well. Nice little french style cafe and very cute.
Pros: sandwiches, coffee, service
