amazing

by Marlee W.

I went to Forest Avenue kindergarden through 5th grade & i think it was a wonderful school. It was hard but if it wasnt, I wouldn't know enough to be at Baldwin right now. I am in the academics side and I hope to go to LAMP, but I would have never gotten this chance if I had not gone to Forest Avenue, so I say thank you!

i was once a student at forest avenue

by Anonymous

i attended forest avenue from kindergarten to 5th grade. it was the best years of my life. i then went on to baldwin and am now at a magnet high school. i believe that yes the school maybe diffcult. but in the long run it is worth it. i also believe that forest avenue is not the school for every child. so parents, you need to let them try forest avenue out and if you can see their drive, if you can see their want and determination in their eyes. then forest avenue is the school for them. otherwise, you are just pressuring your child that they will not work hard for. and if they do not work hard for it in elementary, then they will slack off the rest of their school lives. i was one of the lucky ones. i succeded at all the schools i attended and now am watching my younger sibling go through the process. it is just unbelieveable how smart these children are. i hope that all parents at least apply for foresast avenue magnet elementary school, because it could lead to great things in their future.

Great School

by Stephanie (1 Richards) L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,356

My son just started at Forest Ave this year and is in the first grade. He has some difficulty "catching up" but his teachers have been excellent in working with him and with me as well to help move him forward into the right direction. It's hard work but well worth the extra sacrifices.

Forest Ave. Academic Magnet

by Agnes (4 Gunn) A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,418

My child is in the 3rd grade and has attended since Kindergarten. We absolutely love it. It is the best elementary in the city both private and public. We have had the best teachers in the county. They have all been so caring and loving to my child. She has learned so much here. All of the staff is great. We absolutely love Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Glanzer. They are both wonderful. I would not have my child anywhere else. I recommend this school to as many people that I can. I encourage everyone to attend.

simply the best

by Peggy (2-Sharpless) D. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 82

I have one child here and another child entering kindergarten in the fall. I think there is no better school for any child to attend. The curriculum challenges the children and that's what they need the most. My oldest have been here since kindergarten as well. There is not other school I would want my kids to attend. Everyone is very kind and sincere here.

Elementary School

by Anonymous

I have been at Forest Avenue since 1989. My older son started school here that year as a 4th grader, the first year of the magnet program. My second started the next year, 1990, as a Kindergartener, we spent the night at the school on February 14, 1990 to turn in applications. I became employed as a part-time secretary in 1991 and after a couple of years became the full time secretary. I have seen this school from all sides of the spectrum, parent volunteer, PTA President, secretary and now have grandchildren that have and are attending school here. This a great school with a very motivate/loving faculty. There is NONE better.

What a difference a year makes!

by Kathy (3-Garner) W. | insider Insider | Rank: 30,525

This is the first year that my daughter has been in a magnet school. She is in the 3rd grade and is in both Mrs. Garner's class and Mrs. Porath's class. She has learned so much this year! She hasn't just grown academically, she has made the best of friends and I think her teachers are the best in the city! It took us three trys to get her in, so if anyone wants to get the best education in the best environment for your child, apply as soon as you can for this magnet school. Keep trying,....don't give up..it's well worth the wait! Kathy

Best of the Best!!

by Chris (K-2) S. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 35

This elementary school consistently scores the highest in the state of Alabama. The facility may not be the newest, there may not be adequate parking, there may be prettier schools and better equipped schools, but time and time again, this school has proved with the right leadership and guidance each student can accomplish amazing things. The students here, work a grade level ahead. Though this is a public school, entry into kindergarten and first grade is through a screening and interview process, for all the other grades eligibility is based on previous grades, as well as conduct. I have come to respect what the Principal and teachers of this school do day in and day out to help motivate these children. This is a fast paced, accelerated program, for children who love to learn. My daughter has learned so much more in just a year and half at this school compared to what I learned in all my years of elementary school. The parents of the students of this school for the most part are very active and supportive of the school and staff. The staff gets A++++. The students get A++++. The Principal gets A++++. Even the parents get A++++. We are keeping our fingers crossed that our second child will make it into Forest Ave. along with her sister. It is such a wonderful learning environment to have your child in. Indeed it is the best of the best!!

PROS: Excellent Staff and environment
CONS: older facility and location
