Our visit to AFM was a big dissapointment. My wife and I eat dinner out at least 5 times a week. We normally eat at Teds, Cracker Barrel, Willies, Panera,Chick-fil-a,Outback, etc. Since it was our anniversary we decided to push the envelope and try a Buckhead Life restaurant. Anticipating they would be busy, we arrived at 8:10 for an 8:30 reservation, but we had to wait (standing up) for 30 minutes past our reservation time to get seated. The wait was tough, we were corralled into an overcrowded, hectic entrance area that was so loud you had to almost scream at each other to talk. The facility is a wide open arena like space that seemed more like an assembly line building than a dining room. Once seated we found that they do not serve sweet iced tea. I understand that some fancy restaurants omit this from the menu, but sweet tea is especially good with seafood (this is the south after all). My wife's snapper fillet was fine (though bland) but my stuffed flounder was a flavorless mix of various seafood in some sort of oily broth. Service was prompt and the chocolate/caramel pie was good. I did not think the menu was overpiced but I wish the food had tasted good. I like seafood and I enjoy having a fancy meal and was hoping to find AFM to be an enjoyable experience.

This is my favorite seafood place in the city by far. No other restaurant compares for fresh seafood in Atlanta. The Interior is a little boring but still nice. I recommend it to anyone who loves seafood

This popular restaurant offers a huge selection of seafood choices. There are some delicious dishes here. I have enjoyed every entree that I have tried. My favorite dish is the crab caked, I absolutely love this dish which come with mashed potatoes and cream corn.

Neither my entree nor my friend's was worth eating. We left full plates and empty stomachs. I was always curious about this restaurant. Now I know. No need to return!

Delicious food, from the Fish Market Hot Tower appetizer to the Blackened Atlantic Salmon (awesome!), AFM "Chopped Salad", Black Grouper, wine, and dessert... combined with spectacular service and excellent atmosphere!

Everything together created a perfect background for an enjoyable time for our whole group!

Ate lunch here yesterday and it was great as it always is. Will definately frequent again!

Pros: Great Oysters

January 31, 2010

love love love this place! I have been about 5 times and always leave filled to capacity. The yummi yummi sushi rolls are the BEST! please try them on your visit. The entrees have never disappoointed and the servers are always attentive. If u make a reservation before 9 there is no wait even on a saturday. The tables in the back are extremely small though; the server had to shift things around just to make room. But other than that I love the place! Be careful; it can get pricey. We always end up paying at least $80 for two people not including tip.

Pros: Yummi Yummi Sushi Roll is a MUST!

Cons: small tables

Go to the bar, ask Joe for the BOCA, start your night off with a boost!

moved onto oysters, then sushi...hubby got the stuffed lobster. all made to perfection...fresh, and fun!

waiter..was odd, but very attentive.

we ended the night with an oreo cheesecake- yummy, and the apple crumb cake with ice cream...friend thought top should have been crunchier...however, that didnt keep us from finishing it off!

Pros: always a winner!

I celebrated my birthday yesterday with my girlfriend and I have to say that the food surpassed my expectations. After rave reviews from parents and friends, I finally decided to check it out. Highly recommended was the calamari. The best I have ever had. Not too oily or fishy. Quickly flash fried and served with a great sauce. I had sushi , fried lobster tails and the wedge salad with bacon and blue cheese. Everything was super fresh and cooked perfectly. A nice ambiance throughout the restaurant. I will be visiting again shortly.

Pros: Wonderful atmosphere, extrodinary food

Cons: Serving portions could be more generous

I really love this place. I've been there about 4x's and each time I go we leave full and satisfied. Everything was great from the appetizers all the way to deserts. They make great alcolohic drinks too. I ordered the King crab legs that came with asparagus and mashed potatos. Excellent choice if you are a crab llover and plenty of food to take home. My husband ordered the stuffed lobster. YUMMY! OMG you will be in heaven when you taste either entree. I recommend this place to anyone new in town or just looking for good seafood. The servers are very knowledgable as well. I'm going this Saturday for Valentines and I just can't stop thinking about it. My mouth is watering now......

When I want seafood in Atlanta, I always think of the Atlanta Fish Market. With fresh catch flown in daily, it is by far the best option in the city. They have a large menu selection for both lunch and dinner, with personal favorites such as the Peruvian Sea Bass, Grouper Francese, Crab Cakes (hands down the best I have ever had), and the legendary Fried Lobster Tail. Also, don't miss out on the Blue Cheese Caesar Salad, Fish Market Iced Tower, or the fabulous sushi menu!

As a native Atlantan and frequent diner of AFM, I have never once had anything but exceptional service. The wait staff is friendly and personable and very attentive. The atmosphere is perfect, fun and airy but also quiet enough to enjoy your conversation.

Pros: Fresh Seafood, Attentive Servers, Complimentary Valet

October 21, 2008

The decor was out of date. As soon as you walk in you can see the floor tiles are all broken off. Tables are put together so it looks like a cafeteria, not a romantic restaurant. We ordered the tuna carpaccio for an appetizer and all you could taste was the oil and onions drizzled on top. It was too oily for my liking. My main course of halibut tasted okay, but the green beans tasted like they were from a can (they were overly cooked) and the potatoes had a gamey taste. I'm not sure if they put chicken stock in them. The only redeeming quality was the good service, but it wasn't enough to bring us back.

October 07, 2008

I went to AFM on 10/4/08 because it was my sister's birthday and she wanted seafood so AFM is regarded highly for having great food. Firstly, we made reservations for 8:30 we didn't get seated right away because the whole party hadn't arrived yet. Okay, so once we all got there we still weren't seated. We got seated at about 9:15. What's the point in making reservations if we were going to have to wait anyway? Okay so we got the the Hot Tower appetizer for free since we complained about them not seating us on time. Then when we got our food.... for the price they charge for fish they sure don't give you enough. My waitress was very nice and the atmosphere was nice. The drinks were okay but other than that..... Not very special

Pros: Location, Atmosphere, Drinks

Cons: Pricey food and you don't get enough

August 14, 2008

I've been to the Atlanta Fish Market twice, and I've enjoyed the quality of the food and the service both times.
I went the first time for a business lunch several months ago and also had dinner there last week. For dinner, my husband and I started out with the Calamari and an order of sushi. Our entrees were delicious and the service was top notch. I highly recommend this restaurant. We did make reservations and did not have a problem getting our table right away.

Pros: Service, Food Quality, Menu Selection

May 11, 2008

The food here was good and my service was wonderful. Our server was very attentive and we were asked how we liked the food and everything from who I think is the owner. I would say make reservations for dinner time and they have normal seafood and also sushi, but I did not try the sushi. Recommended for seafood lovers.

Pros: food, service

March 16, 2008

I am relatively new to Atlanta and have been very impressed with the quality of the restaurants in this restaurant group. I took a visiting freind to AFM for dinner, expecting a very good experience. The service was poor. We had to wait what I considered a long time to order (for a Wednesday night when the restaurant was not crowded). The salads came before the appetizer course - no big deal. However, we sent the entree back when it arrived and still no appetizer course. When we did get our ceviche, it was warm and would have been much better chilled. When the entree arrived the second time it was barely warm. Overall, the food was mediocre. I won't be going back.

Pros: Comfortable atmosphere

Cons: Service

March 10, 2008

we eat here a bit its pretty good for atlanta being atlantas not a city for seafood. but the service is nice the quality is good and its a nice place. the oysters there are wondifull we have them often

Pros: good seafood

Cons: crowed on weekends

December 29, 2007

We had a reservation and were seated after 1 drink at the bar. It was just my husband & I for our anniversary dinner, we had read all the rave reviews & had to come here.
We were seated at a McDonalds style 2 seater cafe table. Servers were rushing past us the entire meal and our food only just fit on the tiny table! We pretty much felt we were in the way and like sheep herded to one side. My husband ordered Crab legs on a steak, but they had run out (at 7pm), so he ordered crabcakes instead. I got the lobster & both meals were brought out prompty & cooked perfectly.
We had no complaints about the food or the service. Our waitress was pleasant and friendly & was knowlegable of the menu. The atmosphere of the place was just terrible, there was no ambience. Definitely not a romantic restaurant, they packed so many people in there to maximize profit that all you could hear was a mixture of conversations & the clanking of plates and cutlery (i felt like I was in a mall food court). I would maybe come back here in a large group, but that's it!

Pros: Good food, great service

Cons: No ambience, bad seating

December 21, 2007

I can?t tell you anything about AFM?s food because I didn?t get to taste it. My husband and I walked in during the afternoon (day after Thanksgiving) and they were not busy at all. The hostess was on the phone taking a reservation. I was a bit taken aback that she never once smiled and acknowledged us when we walked up to the hostess stand. She didn?t even lift her head once. A friendly smile would have been sufficient to let us know that she saw us and that she would get to us as soon as she could, but that must have been too much to ask. Perhaps she did not want to be there on that particular day, but she needn?t take out her frustrations on the customers. The ?hostess? finally did put the phone down and only asked us for our last name and how many there were in our party.

The "manager" was rude and condescending. It seems that some other folks have posted negative comments about him. I am assuming that it is the same person because it sure sounds like him. Anyway, I lost my appetite by a comment that he made about me to the server. Apparently he must think that he knows me somehow (we?ve never met). She came over to the table acting a bit sheepish. She started to take our order. I told my husband that he could eat but that I didn?t want to. He protested, saying that I should eat something. He had not caught on to what had offended me. We then agreed to leave without ordering anything. We told the waitress that we would pay for the drinks and leave. She said not to worry about the drinks. The same hateful manager came outside to try to ask us if there was a problem and try to convince us in a cheesy, weak, and pathetic way to come back and give them ?another chance.? I responded to him that he was actually was the problem, and that I refused to eat at a place where I am not treated with respect. Will I ever go back there? That remains to be seen. I just hate to give my money to Buckhead life and make those folks who are so undeserving any richer.

Pros: none

Cons: doesn't live up to high standards it claims to have

December 21, 2007

Food and presentation were very average. Prep. for shell fish was not good. Sevice was not so bad.

November 29, 2007

We went because my father wanted too. That's all I'm going to say. I knew better. Nothing was good from the time we entered the door. One note I need to mention, servers should NEVER have bad personal habits like- Telling us about "their" personal stuff.

Pros: None

Cons: Horrible Company, but I knew that before going....

October 18, 2007

Firstly, the decor hasn't changed much over the years and that's not necessarily a bad thing. The ceiling is high and the main room is spacious. There are more intimate dining areas towards the front. Whatever you do, do not let them seat you in the back room which has the feel of a basement. The bar area is fine for drinks or dining. Second, the service is OK. Not too bad, but not great. The food was too rich, either too salty, or too buttery. Therefore if you do try this restaurant I recommend sticking with the bare bones broiled or Hong Kong style. But stay away from the overly cheesy whipped potatoes. Because most dishes were highly fattening and too rich to eat I do not plan on returning. However, smart choices of salad w/ light dressing can be ordered.

Pros: fun decor

Cons: pricey, most dishes overly buttery or salty

August 27, 2007

Went to the fish market on yesterday evening...to start the waitress we had was not attentive, she did not come back to the table to check to see if we when needed anything, to check on how our food tasted, she didn't ask if we needed refills on drinks..the only time we saw her is when she took our order. (that's ok, I usually tip 20% she only got 5%)

Second, I order the Carolina Salmon Trout...OMG! Big mistake...u see I went to the Atlanta Fish Market 7 years ago and had bad food then...I figure I would give it another shot because my fiance said he's never gone before...U couldn't taste the Macadamia Honey Butter Sauce...the spinch was very bland, as if they warmed frozen spinach up in the micrwave, the whipped sweet potatoes were ok, I tried the fried lobster tail (appetizer menu) Was not good at all!
McKendrick's Steak House on Ashford-Dunwoody has the best Lobster Tail I have tasted thus far...I have yet to go to Chops to sample theirs....

Lastly, I would not recommend this place at all....FOOD AND SERVICE NOT THAT GREAT!!!!

Pros: Valet Parking

Cons: EVERYTHING!! FOOD!! SERVICE!

August 14, 2007

Having worked in the restaurant industry in the past, I hold Buckhead Life Group Restaurants to a high standard. I have been here a handful of times and each time the food was just acceptable. I gave it second, third, and fourth chances, but it just didn't meet the standard of the other Buckhead Life restaurants. I also have never seen such a horrible manager. I always pay attention to the way a restaurant is run, and I've never seen anything like this. The manager is very rude to people he works with including employees and wine/food sales people. Once I sat at the bar having a cocktail and watched a winemaker come to present products. The manager said he'd be right back and then left to never return. The winemaker waited for an hour, only to have the bartender tell them that the manager went home. What kind of business is this guy running? Who does this guy think he is to have someone who traveled across the country to see him sit there like a donkey. Another time, half of his waitstaff were "tasting" liquor before their shift at the bar, while he was again being rude to some wine distributor. They "tasted" every whiskey, bourbon, and scotch at the bar, and that is not an exaggeration. Back at the restaurants I used to work at, we would have been fired on the spot for getting drunk at the bar before a shift. I will never go back this restaurant after the disappointing food and the poor management.

Pros: Buckhead; waitstaff

Cons: management, food

July 28, 2007

I got the whole sea bass and expected a huge fish for five star prices... i ordered the fish well done and it came mushy... draft beer is nyc prices... i just expected more for the 5 star restaurant prices. id rather go to a small bar and pay 1/2 the price for the same quality

July 27, 2007

I have had the pleasure of dining here at least two or three times a month since the beginning of the year. Normally my friend and I sit in a booth at the bar and are spoiled with attentive service and the very freshest fish. Portions are hearty! The appeitzers, salads and entrees are tasty! The wait staff are attentive and helpful. One night we had not such great service and the manager apologized profusely and ensured that our next visit would be a pleasant one. Kudos for the Buckhead Life Group. Every one of their establishments are first class!!!

Pros: Freshest fish, great service, friendly staff, valet parking is quick and easy!

Cons: They are so popular the place is always packed! Its a large house, so the waits aren't long!

July 22, 2007

My husband and I went to the Atlanta Fish Market Friday night. We were about 5 minutes late for our reservations because of traffic, and it was another 5 minutes before we were seated. We opted to skip the appetizers and get salads instead. His cesar salad was good, and my "AFM" dinner salad was good. His said his blackened Alaskan halibut was an incredible piece of fish and worth the $24 price. I had a good linguini pasta dish without seafood since I can't stand seafood. Dessert for my husband was a hazelnut chocolate cake, and I got the toffee chocolate pie. Both were very yummy and very heavy. I brought about half of my dessert home. The service was pretty decent as far as the pace of the courses and drink refills, but our server stopped by a few times to casually chat while we were eating our food. We had to ask him to let us finish our meal before talking. No offense, I was there to talk to my dining companion, not the waiter.

We were surprised at how casual and diverse the restaurant clientele was. There were families with small, well behaved children, older couples, and people our age in groups. This is the most casual of the Buckhead Life Group restaurants I've been to. People were in everything from skirts to shorts and sandals. Given the quality of the food, we will be back. It would be a nice place to go with another couple or two.

Pros: Excellent food, good desserts, good for families with children, valet parking

Cons: Chatty servers, waiting even with reservations

December 12, 2006

It's unbelievable how this restaurant stays so busy night after night. After living in atlanta for 6 years I finally had dinner at the big copper fish. It's bad. My salmon was so overcooked it practically bounced. The food is very expensive though you question yourself thinking it can't possibly be that bad for $22. It is. What was supposed to be "cedar planked salmon" turned out to be a microwaved salmon fillet with barbecue sauce and some mango salsa in a cup. Awful.

Pros: in buckhead

Cons: food, expensive, nothing good to say

November 09, 2006

the seafood was good, but nothing what i had heard and read about...maybe it was because we ate there for lunch instead of dinner...the place was essentially empty on a saturday with only 3 other tables taken..and the disappointing food was very very overpriced

Pros: ambience

Cons: cost, disappointing taste

September 15, 2006

My first encounter with The Fish Market, as it was originally known, was over twenty years ago. It was located on the lower level of Lenox Square, where the food court is now. My late father would sit at the bar, facing shoppers, eating oysters and drinking martini's, while mom worked his credit cards throughout the mall. Today on Pharr Rd., the institution is called The Atlanta Fish Market.

Wonderful building, with a large mural of a who's who in the ATL. Trust me, avoid the crowds, and sit in the bar area, in a big cozy booth. All the seafood classics are here, as well as hip preparations for the healthy set. We just stick with the signature dish, The Fried Lobster Tail, and a side of crabmeat stuffing. Excellent Service In The Bar Area! An Atlanta classic!

Pros: Fried Lobster Tail, Drinks, Excellent Service!

Cons: Large Crowds, Long Waits-Even With Reservations!

April 27, 2006

Went with a group of 18 for a relative's 80th birthday, we had confirmed reservations. When we arrived they were only expecting 16, they were rude, did not offer us drinks or water, waited a long time for entrees, and some of the waters even took our plates out from under us while we where eating. We spent over $1000 on dinner and our evening was ruined.

Pros: Great pork chops, cool fish statue

Cons: crowded, poor service, mixed up reservations

March 03, 2006

Let me start off by saying the service was great. Our waiter and the I guess assistant managers who were walking around were very friendly. I like the fact that the waiter used our names when he came to our table to serve us. I also like the fact that the waiter explained to us the whole menu since it was our first time there. And now to the food. The food was great, excellant! I ordered jumbo shrimp and JUMBO they were. Seasoned very nicely and very fresh taste! I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone, ecspecially all the seafood lovers!

Pros: Good Parking, Not crowded, Service

Cons: Bread

February 14, 2006

My boyfriend and I went for Valentine's Day. We had a 10pm reservation and arrived early. We were seated before 10. We waited about 5 minutes before we even got water. Our waiter finally showed up, but ran away before we could even order. He proceeded to do this until we finally told him we'd like to order entrees. His only saving grace as our waiter was his fish recommendation. The food was incredible! The only negitive comment we would have would have to be the service. We expected a little more, especally for a higher end restaurant and Valentine's Day.

Pros: food, fresh seafood

Cons: service

February 04, 2006

This place is great! I had an 8:45 reservation and arrived about 30 minutes early. We were promptly seated. Our server was there immediately and very knowledgeable about the menu. My water and wine glass were never empty and the food came quickly and was absolutely amazing. My plate was clean when I was finished. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an enjoyable evening of seafood.

November 03, 2005

As a frequent diner with Buckhead Life Restaurants I was very disappointed with the service and food at AFM. The server spilled a bowl of melted butter on one of my guests. They brought out food at different times instead of all together. However they could have kept most of it. Lobster was so undercooked my fiance was sick all night. My tuna was very overcooked and rubbery. They brought out wine glasses that were caked in lipstick. Manager did comp about $75 of my $400 bill. Will not be returning.

Pros: None

Cons: Food, Service

October 28, 2005

Had a great time! Took my mother and brother there for dinner this evening and it was awesome. Had the shrimp cocktail for starters, broiled seafood platter, and for dessert crem buella (No idea how to spell that one) Jason was our server and he did a fantastic job, I would recommend this place to anyone.

Pros: food, service

Cons: none

October 24, 2005

On my second visit to Atlanta this year, my family and I decided we would try the Atlanta Fish Market because we love seafood. We asked our waiter what he recommended and he said the stuffed lobster. It sounded so great we all ordered it. All three of us ended up with lobster which was less than cooked. I knew mine was raw right away, but my brother and mom didn't realize until several bites in. Instead of comping our whole meal (which was virtually ruined by a disgusting main entree), the manager merely removed our lobsters but left the appetizer and drinks on our bill. The biggest disappointment was having a horrible meal on a 3 day visit to a city with soooo many great restaurants to offer. We will definitely not go back to Atlanta Fish Market.

October 24, 2005

Some of the best seafood I've had in any city. Many options to choose from.

Service was rough though. Server seemed nervous and new. Salad and soup came out at the same time.

Entrees were excellent.

August 28, 2005

We made reservations for 17 for a bridal shower. Upon arrival we had to wait, and were seated at a table that barely held 10 comfortably!!! We were put in the back, and treated like dirt when we asked why were the reservations accepted if they could not accomadate us!!! To top it off they messed up an expensive cake!!!...This restaurant is terrible!..The food was o.k. though.

Pros: food

Cons: crowded, service, drinks

June 06, 2005

A had looked forward to visiting this highly rated restaurant while in Atlanta, but was greatly disappointed. I arrived for an early dinner, and was seated behind the bar. I was told the main dinning room "was not open" yet. However, I was expected to pay the full fare for the meal. I ordered an appetizer, while a perused the large menu. The waiter returned to say that the menu item I ordered was not served until later. The drink I had ordered was not prepared as described on the menu, yet again, I was charged full fare. I ordered a cup of gumbo and told the waiter perhaps I'd return when they were serving everything on their menu. I didn't.

May 06, 2005

huge dissapointment... compeletly overpriced for food thats at least the same quality TGI fridays.

March 24, 2005

For those of us looking for a resturant where fish is fresh this is it. The hong kong style presentation is exceptional. The chowder is very good and the bread pudding for desert is on of the best in town. Highly recommended to all.

Pros: frendly service, large selection

Cons: noisey

March 19, 2005

Please do not get your feelings hurt when they dpon't ahve violins and flowers waiting.

A lot fo the reviewers on here seem shocked that AFM is noisy and busy and pricey. Well firts, keep in mind it is a seafood house. They never claim to be romantic or secluded. It is in one of the busiest parts of Atlanta. They get thousand sof visitors everyday and Lobster is expensive anywhere you go.

The bottom line is you go here for great fresh seafood when you have some time to kill and can relax with people you enjoy talking to.

Our service was great but don't cry if you have to wait 5 minutes on your drinks on a Friday night. There are places where you can get food very quickly. They are called drive-thru's.

Pros: portions, lobster and salmon, service

Cons: noisy, busy

January 16, 2005

We had 8:30 dinner reservations. We got there early and were not seated until 9:00. It was pretty noisy. The good was wonderful, but combined with the noise and long wait I would not go there again.

Pros: good parking

Cons: , too crowded

September 27, 2004

It was a disappointing experience in Atlanta Fish Market. First we were seated in the corner right next to the waiter's station. More than once, the waiters knocked into the chair of our table. There was also long time waiting to order food and get the food. and the grill snapper was not fresh at all. I should mention that though we were facing 5-8 waiters all the time, it takes 10 mins to get the water glass refilled. I do recommend the whipped sweet potato, though.

Pros: big portion, decor

Cons: , service, price

April 14, 2004

I have always heard rave reviews of this restaurant, but found it disappointing compared to the many other Buckhead Life Restaurants. Food and service were fair. Place reminded my party of somewhere like Friday's. Too bad because Atlanta sure is lacking in good seafood restaurants.

August 11, 2003

Anyone who thinks the seafood is good here has limited experience eating "decent", much along good seafood. I found the food bland and have found better seafood at one of the more upscale chains around here. I also found it interesting that the chefs try to copy some of the ideas of some of the best places in New Orleans, try being the operative word here. Also, if you are going to call your gumbo "New Orleans Gumbo", I suggest you check with the locals ( I was one for five years), because in all the bowls I've had, capers was not an ingredient. Okra yes.

Pros: Parking

Cons: Cramped Seating

June 28, 2003

This was my first time visiting AFM and I was taken in by the whole experience. From the time we arrived to the time we left, I can honestly say that it was one of the best restaurants I've eaten in. While the environment is somewhat noisy, it didn't distract from my conversation or the experience. The wine selection was great and the food was even better. AFM is ranked high on my list as one of Atlanta's best. Reservations are recommended as this is a popular place.

Pros: Food, Service
