I agree with some of the other reviews. Horrible service, attitude, and frankly, the food is very so-so. This was a place that I had wanted to try for a number of monthsand sadly was hugely disappointed.

Horrible. Don't waste your time.\r

Sunday after church and no wait. Should have been my first sign. \r
The waiter ever-so unprofessionally asked us "what do you want to eat?"\r

We then noticed the price for crab legs was marked

My family and I ate at Blue Fins Bistro for the first time last night and it was disapointing.
My husband and I ordered crab cakes and having a good taste they were not hot. I had ordered rice with the meal and they brought me roasted

One word, horrible! Me and the hubby always try somewhere new for our anniversary and this year we decided on Blue Fins. We got reservations at 5 on a Thursday evening 07-07. We arrived and ordered our drinks and sampler for appetizers.

Do I have to give this restaurant even 1 star!!! Since moving to town I was excited about the idea of small family owned restaurants around town. Some do it right, while other restaurants seem tired and pathetic. I don't mind spending money on quality food, but to spend $75 for two on for food I could get a Long John Silvers seems ridiculous. The martini's are also terrible. I will say that our server was sweet, but had no knowledge of the menu. From now on, we are going to Shucker's Oyster Bar down the street.

Pros: location

Cons: Everything Else

.

I have now been here twice and to be honest, that was to generous.

Full disclosure: we were headed for Shuckers but the two hour wait was too long so we decided to give this one last shot. Our first clue should have been the fact the place was largely empty during peak time on a Friday night. We chose to ignore the obvious and sat down at a lovely table. It went down from there.

Let me start with the fact I love seafood and Blue Fin's does not. How else would you explain mussels in a sauce that was so salty that I, an admitted salt-aholic, found it inedible? My companion's seafood platter was a mass of batter that concealed what was once fish. Dessert was the best part of the meal only because it marked the end of a tortured journey. Suffice it to say we left the cheese cake largely untouched. This is unheard of, trust me. Drinks by the way were skimpy, over priced and underwhelming.

To make matters even worse - my companion put the bill on his debit card and when it cleared found they had charged dinged his card for $15.00 more than the bill he signed. Odd indeed and, of questionable honesty.

I think the mediocre food, halfhearted service and odd bills probably did not matter as much a year or so ago when they were the only game in town. Their location gave them the edge in a neighborhood of tony houses and the golf course's proximity was and added boost. It was a good place to stop in after a round of golf.

But there are more restaurants in the area now and especially with Shuckers near by, Blue Fin's Bistro is either going to have to step up their game or be prepared to step aside. On the strength of my two visits there, I predict they will be forced to step aside.

Cons: food; service

Where do I start...
I used to frequent Blue Fin's when I lived in Wake Forest about 2 years ago, and recently I've been back 3 times to give it a try again. I won't go back.
The waitstaff used to be friendly and I always recognized them... I don't recognize a single waitress now. I also observed the pregnant bartender/manager speaking to her staff so rudely that it made me feel bad for them. And when I found a fly in my martini, she didn't take it off my bill, instead she dumped it out and made a new one with the same liquors in the same glass.
The drinks are EXTREMELY overpriced for the amount of liquor in them. When I went the last time, the other bartender (obviously new and unfamiliar with bartending) made my drink so weak, I sent it back. $7 is too expensive for a watered down crown & coke with half an ounce of crown.
The food is average, some dishes are still good, like the ribs and the fried seafood, but the pastas have been flavorless and full of oil recently. My fiancee's steak was overcooked (we didn't bother sending it back, it took us over 40 minutes to recieve our food in the first place.) I will say our server the last time was very friendly and attentive and apologized for the wait and the poor quality without us complaining.

I only went back a 3rd time because the new restaurant across the street was too full. Next time we'll gladly wait.

Pros: coupons, cheap beer, wide variety on menu

Cons: service, owners, taste, prices, cleanliness

We were excited about this place until we experienced it. Service was very slow including drinks, appetizers, and food. Not a seafood establishment at all. Steamed oysters came out some dry and some very cold. They were sent back and came out too quickly the same if not worse and the steak speacial not recomended either. The thing that gets me is after sending food back twice NO management approached us. It was like take it off the bill and get them out. Sad because we would have returned and recomened it to others. I heard Shuckers just opened down the street!!

One thing about this site that I cant stand is that it always seems to attract people that feel that their opinions mean to much. I very rarely visit this site because of all the trash talking that goes on. My wife and I frequent this establishment often and I'm hear to say that this is a great little Bistro. We have always been pleased with everything that we have had and still come every week. Their 1/2 price peel and eat shrimp on Tuesdays, and 1/2 price crab legs and 1/2 price oyster pecks on Thursdays are a real treat for us. They always have drink and food specials everyday. We really enjoy their southwestern egg rolls also. We also love their brunch on Sundays. I dont like going to chain restaurants because I feel that they are just cooking with microwaves. I love trying little mom and pop places and this bistro is that. I usually try to keep my mouth quiet but after reading some of the comments above, I felt obligated to make review about Blue Fins Bistro. We know the owners very well and the lady behind the bar is the manager and wife to be of the owner David Berent. ( Im really impressed that real estate agents have the knowledge of how to retrieve info on the owner online, but maybe a little more time selling houses and less time on company time trying to complain about yesterdays lunch might make your boss happy) To sum up everyone has a bad day and fortunately for us we have not been there on a bad day. Keep up the good work guys!!!!!

My boyfriend and I have very high standards when it comes to eating out and have been disappointed, more often than not, when we try something new. But, because we had a coupon for a free dessert we thought, why not? We were so pleasantly surprised, we even complimented the chef. We've been back several times now and always enjoy their fresh, flavorful food. We've had the steak and crab legs, the mushroom ravioli w/ shrimp and the fried flounder with onion rings. The dessert, a turtle cheesecake, was great. Also, I always get a martini and they're fabulous! The only criticism we have would be that once you're seated, it takes a while to be greeted. After that, the staff has been attentive and helpful with any questions about the menu. If you don't mind spending a little more for dinner, we highly recommend this little gem.

The only good thing about this place was the calamari and fries. We should have quit right there.

Everything took very long, including the drinks, they made excuses for the service, food, etc. You just cannot make excuses like that. You have to present excellence in everything.

They have issues and they need to address them and not make excuses!!!

There is a BLUE Fin's and a BACK Fin's, both in Wake Forest. BLUE Fin's is an upscale bistro, BACK Fin's is a crab shack. I think a few people below have the two confused, like the lady who said the only good thing at Blue Fin's was the calamari and fries. They don't serve calamari or french fries at all.

Great food, atmosphere and location! Despite a few bad reviews, my husband and I tried this place last night. We were both very pleasantly surprised! We had a coupon for a free appetizer so my hubby and I both got different apps (crap/artichoke dip and raw oysters on the half). We tested each others and raved. My husband said the oysters were some of the best he's had in a long time. The salads were awesome, too. I got the seafood combination plate and hubby got ribs and shrimp. Both were excellent. I was even able to substitute an item with no questions asked! Not made of money, my hubby and I RARELY get a sitter and go out so it is a treat when we do. We were not disappointed and did not feel we had "watsed" a night out like he have felt before. Will definitely go back!

Cons: did not have booths

Horrible experience.

Took some clients here for a nice late afternoon meal. We were seated immediately, and waited on by the bartender (manager? please read on.) She greeted us a bit informally, but not rudely. Our drinks took almost ten minutes to arrive, which was noticeably sad because we were one of two tables in the place. Even worse we were privvy to the reason why our drinks were so long in the making. The bartender and a chef were arguing, and then "made up" rather affectionately.

The food came out quickly, but was BAD!!! Felt like I was in a TGI fridays more than a bistro. (Actually would have preferred TGIF over this place. You know its going to be loud at Fridays, and at least the prices are reasonable.) Our "fresh" tuna was partially frozen in the middle. The salad had wilted greens, or shall I say browns YUCK!!! The seafood breading was maybe a notch better than something you could buy at the grocery store next door.

The floor was peeling up in over 50% of the place. Many spots along the walls had scuff marks. I dare not mention the odors present in the bathroom.

When I asked to speak to a manager, a young lady told me that she was the owner, although she looked to be more like the bartender. (I work in real estate... the tax docs on the place say the owner is a man named Berent.) If she was lying, that might actually be a plus since it would indicate that the problems here are acute and not systemic.

This is not a bistro. There are no white table cloths. The waitstaff is not knowledgeable. The food is not fresh local fare. (I saw the foodservice truck outside.)

Its a pub at best. And not a real good one at that. If you want to spend 89.00 for 3 very poor lunches and three very slow cocktails, suit yourself.

My husband and I tried this place hoping to find a good seafood spot. We were beyond disappointed. I ordered a dish with shrimp, scallops, and lump crabmeat and it was so terrible that I only ate a couple of bites. I have never left crabmeat on my plate, but the sauce they poured over it was so bad I couldn't finish even half of it. My husband tried to eat his since we were paying $50 for the dinner, but his was poorly cooked and had a terrible taste to it. The only thing we liked from our entire meal was the ranch dressing that came with our salads. Definitely not worth the $50. The only recommendation I have for this restaurant is to stay far far away! Don't waste your date night like we did.

I have been going to the Blue Fin for months at least once a week. I can't say enough good things about this place but I will try to break ti down into categories for ease of reading.

Service:
The service is amazing, some of the best I've ever had. The staff is always smiling and they go out of their way to take care of you. Jenny, Heather, and Liz are incredible. These ladies know how to take care of you. Dave and Roland: they can cook my food anytime. Its flavorful and they will adjust your meal to fit your needs.

Drinks: Jenny and Heather are the type of bartenders you look for in a neighborhood bar, they are super friendly. They have a good selection of drinks and I would suggest taking advantage of their $5.00 martini night on Sunday. The Green Goose and Pineapple Upside are my favs!

Food: If Dave or Roland are cooking (which they always have been when I am there) you are golden. Not sure about the other reviews here but then again I also don't eat red meat. My friend has had their sirloin and it has been wonderful. Their garlic mashed potatoes, spinach, and squash/zuchini mix are the best sides. The tiliapia and seafood alfredo is delicous as well. By far my favorite dish they have (only on special) is their mushroom ravoli....oh my goodness! This meal is amazing. We always get it with scallops and shrimp added to it and its to die for. The cream sauce is full of flavor and has a slight sweetness to it. For appetizers try their crab dip, shrimp cocktail, or southwestern egg rolls.

Atmosphere: This place is exactly what Wake Forest needed, especially by Heritage. It definitely has that "Cheers" feel to it because the regulars are always in their catching up with one another. Its nicely decorated, making it warm and cozy. Great for a full meal or if you just want a few drinks.

The Blue Fin is a must try if you haven't been. Just ask for Jenny, Heather or Liz and they will take care of you!

The Blue Fin has become my second kitchen...or rather, second dining room. The service I've experienced has been second to none, and the kitchen is always willing to make adjustments or do what they can to make sure you get exactly what you want, so the food is stellar. Some of my favorites: Parmesan encrusted Tilapia (I get it w/o the crab stuffing), crab dip with pita points, southwest egg rolls, mushroom ravioli in madiera cream redution, garlic mashed potatos, regular house salad (their blue cheese is to die for!) The owners are personable and very hands-on - you know you are being taken care of. David and Jenni are the consummate host and hostess - and Jenni makes a mean drink, served with rapier wit. Roland knows how to satisfy your tummy - he's awesome. Heather, Liz, Karen, 'Delicious,' Tom...they are all wonderful and will take good care of you.

If you find yourself in Wake Forest and in need of a great dinner in a fantastic, relaxed atmosphere, Blue Fin's Bistro is your place.

My wife and I have actually eaten here at least a dozen times due to its proximity to our neighborhood. When we go out to eat, we are not that price conscious -- we are just after a quality experience. What we have noticed about Blue Fin is that their food quality and customer service experience is highly variable. In the past, it has ranged from average to above average depending on the items ordered and time of day.

This last Sunday -- 5/25/2008, I ordered the ribs -- which were terrible. Definitely a disappointment compared to the great ribs found elsewhere in NC. Very subpar meat quality as well as preparation. After eating one or two ribs and deciding it was inedible, we told the waitress. My wife was done eating, so we went ahead and asked for the check. The waitress did not offer a refund for the inedible ribs. When we asked, after a significant wait, she said she could not get a hold of the owner and entered a 25% discount on the order. We were running out of time and just took care of the bill and left.

If I remember I will call AMEX and charge back the amount at the end of my billing cycle. We are glad, that as Wake Forest grows, there are more choices for dining.

Pros: Location

Cons: Service, Food

The bad stuff out fo the way first: This place is very expensive for the caliber food they serve. It's not bad at all, but steaks, pasta, and ribs are NOT their specialty. Each time it was poorly seasoned and poorly cooked. Stick to the seafood. My Girfrend and I managed to run up an $80 bill between just the two of us, now that is pricey. However, the service was excellent and I really like the warm, cozy atmosphere. They have some pretty decent specials too. Now I know what a peck of oysters is. A decent once in a while place, that's about all I can afford.

The seafood omelet was excellent, my husband loves the bacon cheeseburger which he has had twice there! The only problem we had was that the prices on the menu did not match the bill. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress, we expected an apology and a correction. Instead she just kept repeating "well that is what the computer said". When my husband ordered his burger she said it came with a side, and when he asked what sides were available, she told him and he chose onion rings. On the bill she charged him extra for onion rings. When we asked about this she said- well it says that on the menu so he should have known. The food was great and up until the bill, the service was great. I would reccomend this place but just make sure that your bill is added up right!

I am a Chef vacationing from Baltimore and was looking for a nice enjoyable seafood restaurant. A friend of mines introduce me to Blue Fin's. When I first arrived I ate at several other seafood restaurants and was not impressed until I came upon Blue Fin's. The seafood is fresh the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Then I came to the Sunday Brunch and was overwhelm after eating at Courtney's Restaurant and now eating at Blue Fin's there was no comparison. The prices and reasonable, the portions are plentiful, and they even have a kids menu. I was impressed with the Seafood Omelet, French Toast ( You don"t even need syrup), Steak and eggs and their Homemade Biscuits are to die for. Also don't let me forget the Home fries. Now I see when they say there is nothing better then Southern Cooking and Hospitality. Well you can receive this from Blue Fins. I would have love to relocate and cook for this wonderful restaurant. I will be back.

Pros: Food, wait staff, prices, and ambience

Cons: Big portions a little to much for one person

Too pricey for average food... could get better steaks at a chain restaurant. Totally disappointed.

We're new to the area, and were just driving around looking for something new to try. The only rule we had was no chains. We found this little place in a plaza. Just a note for anyone trying to find this place with a Garmin GPS - it will take you past it, and say you've arrived in the middle of the raod a quarter mile after you've passed it.

I think my dish was called the Neptune, but I may be wrong. Scalllops, shrimp and crab meat in a white wine sauce. The scallops were very tender, the shrimp perfectly cooked. The crab meat wasn't great by itself, almost more like a stuffing for the shrimp and scallops. It all worked together well, and the sauce was nice. My wife got the shrimp and grits ravioli, which was very good; not overcooked and in a pleasant tomato sauce. The shrimp taste was subtle, but the grits were actually quite nice as a filling.

Warm wheat rolls, and above average side salads. My side dish of red potatoes were well done and nicely seasoned.

went for a late nite dinner, 9 pm at night on a weeknight. food was very good. ambience was layed back and relaxed. however so much so that they (the managers) were allowing bar patrons to smoke in the restaurant. for those who do not know, this place is tiny and is just one big room with no separate smoking and nonsmoking sections. the rude smokers who lit up ruined my meal as i had to leave it only half-eaten due to my bad asthma. if that hadn't happened it would have been a pretty good meal. from the few bites i took the food was good. steak cooked just right and crabcakes good too. too bad i couldn't stay to finish it. health conscious people beware, this is a bar/pub type place and is smoky/

My wife and I recently ate at Blue Fin's with some friends who live in Wake Forest who love Blue Fin's. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good. We started with the spring rolls and they were good. I chose the salmon special with garlic mashed potatoes for dinner and it was also good. I requested blackened salmon, but I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of seasoning. All in all it was a good experience and I will go back. The shrimp and grits ravioli looked very appetizing and I'll probably try that next time.

Absolutely love this place. Not to many good places to eat in wake forest so we always end up at Blue Fins. The staff are good but the Owners (Dave and Jeni) are the best! Lunch, Dinner, Drinks...Always Good!

I live in Wake Forest, about 4 minutes from Blue Fins, so I have eaten there quite a few times, for both lunch and dinner. I've had one meal that missed the mark, but mostly I have had some very good food there and friendly, down-to-earth service. Check out the Buffalo Chicken Salad for lunch - my husband and I are addicted to it. The turkey ciabatta is really good, and the onion rings are honestly the best I've ever had. Crunchy, not greasy, and the onion doesn't slide out of its coating when you bite into it. I don't even really like onion rings, but I could eat these all day. The southwestern egg rolls on the appetizer menu are also yummy. My friend got a fish dish that was coated in toasted almonds that he raved about - too bad it wasn't a regular menu item! I understand they have live music on certain nights too - one day we're going to check that out, along with their impressive martini menu. Fun stuff. Glad those of us in Wake Forest don't have to drive far to get good food, music, and drinks anymore. Hopefully the success of Blue Fins will encourage other high quality restaurants to migrate north.

Check you order before you leave with a takeout order. Only 6 shrimp on shrimp burger, tiny piece of chicken on chicken sandwich and old, wilty lettuce on both. Yuck!! Not worth the $$.

My husband and I go to Blue Fin's sometimes 3-4 times a week. Not only is the food delicious and reasonably-priced, the service is always efficient and very friendly. We have never had a bad meal or service that was less than excellent. I am a picky eater and owner/chef Dave is always accommodating and willing to make custom dishes for me. We love the live music on Saturdays, as well as the patio seating now that spring is here. Blue Fin's is a wonderful change of pace from the typical chain restaurants in the area. After eating there, you will not want to go anywhere else.

I just moved to the area not long ago, and have fallen in love with Blue Fin's Bistro. The food was wonderful, and the martinis!! Their descriptions make you want to try them all, I recomend spacing it out over several trips. The staff is always smiling and attentative. I was made to feel like family, and I can't explain how important that is when you move to a new city. I frequent Blue Fin's once, sometimes twice a week, and have yet to have a less than wonderful experience, which is odd considering they haven't even been open a full year yet. I will admit it can get a little busy on the weekends, but believe me it's worth the wait. If you haven't been, you're missing out on a great dining experience.

The service is excellent and the food is delicious. The prices are more than reasonable for the quality of food they serve. You will not be disappointed!

My party was actually really pleased with all the service. Our party was greeted by a server with a big smile and was really up beat. Then seated in a timely fashion. The food was out to our table in a reasonable time, and was great. (They also have a chef that does all there cheesecakes from scratch! He does personal orders for the holidays.) I would criticize the whole service and experience and give them a 10 out of 10!
