I see one major flaw that William wrote back in May, 2010. He says the church is "youth oriented". Oh, I've seen this animal before. They come in with some youngster whipper-snapper with theatrics, his commanding dominating personality with new words that shock the congregation into a Stockholm Syndrome. A church should be people oriented. Youth can not simply have its way or bad things will happen, just like COTC. I attended a church once that took on this stance. The new pastor came in, and for brevity I will just say started changing things up. It was slow at first , like the frog in the warm water concept and later turning the heat up. Then it began to pick up speed as authority and control were firmly established. He made statements from the pulpit like "anyone over 40 who not in step with us can leave"....to which with most people it didn't register what was happening (Stockholm Syndrome). Eventually the church went from a traditional church (that was growing) to a rock band music fest with no choir, no piano, no organ...just the rock band. And they all sat there and eventually saw it all and began leaving. All those over 40 mostly. The tithers, the ones writing the biggest checks. The youth gave little to nothing. Dumb? Yes. Stupid is as stupid does. Last I heard the pastor and song leader come to service in flip flops and beach shorts with a floppy shirt. They have smoke on the stage like a rock concert and a glitter ball that reflects light revolving around like at a disco. And, strobe lights. THIS is what use to be a Baptist church. And the youth oriented took it over. You have to ask yourself a question. Would like this concept taking over running the governments of the world?

It is sad that Cathedral Of The Cross closed. I was a member for several years and left there five years ago because I moved to another part of the state. I have problems realizing that the church is there no longer. One problem that was evident at Cathedral Of The Cross was that Centerpoint became a high-crime minority area and no one felt safe there. Most church members moved far away to escape the crime. Most members moved on to churches closer to their new addresses. I moved out of Jefferson County to escape the crime. I wish all of the former church members the best. Cathedral Of The Cross was a great church. It will be missed by a lot of people.

Unfortunately whoever wrote the second review doesn't have a clue. The church was over $2million in debt when Mike got there, but the people didn't know it. The school was sucking the finances out of the church and needed to be closed. The church was on a downward trend before Mike got there, and he did the church a favor by shutting it down. Even if the people wouldn't have been too sensitive and unsupportive COTC would have needed to shut down or move. You can thank the former leadership for the financial troubles as Mike gave and took pay cuts in order to keep things floating. Get your facts from the people involved and not from gossips.

Unfortunately, Mike Wright has turned this once-thriving church and school into a dried up concoction of kool-aid drinkers. The Basement has long gone, Mike closed the school, and now they have let the building go into foreclosure. Sad sad sad.

This church has taken a lickin and kept on tickin. C.O.T.C. has a new pastor ,Mike Wright, and if he could be summed up in one word that word would be "INTEGRITY". A former U.S. Marine, this new pastor takes and applies the Latin phrase "SEMPER FIDELUS",the motto of the U.S. Marines, and applies it to his Christian walk as well as his teaching though I have never heard him utter the words. He lives it. Anyone searching for a church seeking God would find this church to be of interest. Many members abandonded C.O.T.C. following the resignation of high profile pastor Mark Eugene Correll . A remnant remained and through many months of prayer a move of God has begun. Kingdom integrity is the goal and God enables those such minded. Those such minded will always find themselves in possesion of Kingdom authority. Mountains get moved! Look for this church to be a fulcrum of revival in the southeast. It is coming. Already C.O.T.C. is overflowing on Tuesday nights with services from Matt Pitt and "The Basement" . Youth oriented ,The Basement draws crowds numbering in the thousands and is radically influencing a generation with the Gospel of Christ. Also C.O.T.C. is a racially diverse church. Anyone is welcome and translators are in each service for Hispanic and the hearing impaired.854-7777
