I estimate that Connie and her so-called company (Towers Realty and Investments) screwed us out of $1,200-1,500. Connie managed a home that my husband and I rented for a little over a year. We are both active duty military and have moved around a lot and she is by far the worst landlord we have ever encountered! We had many issues with her and her daughter Janelle and their family-run business, but I will only list the major issues here.

After a year of renting from Connie we decided to buy a house so I asked Connie if we could continue to rent on a month-by-month basis until our new house was built (this was just easier than moving or putting everything into storage for 6 months). Of course this was fine with Connie for an extra $100 per month which I??m positive she pocketed.

So when we moved out my husband and I cleaned the house spotless (and we know what spotless is due to enduring many military inspections). She walked through the house and complained about the interior needing to be painted and the carpet needing to be cleaned and that she was going to take that our of our deposit! These things should be taken care of by the landlord in between renters anyway?it wasn??t in our contract that we couldn??t hang things on the wall and the carpet received typical wear in high traffic areas.

I had to contact Connie when it had been almost 30 days since we??d moved out and we still hadn??t received our deposit back. She mailed me 1/3 of my deposit along with 2 receipts; 1 for carpet cleaning and 1 for an entire house cleaning (I guess she was feeling generous and didn??t charge me to have the place painted). The receipt for the house cleaning was from a generic receipt book you can get at Wal-Mart, the first names of the cleaners and a phone number (which turned out to be made up) and a total charge of $300 was all that was on the ??receipt?. This house was only 3 bed/2 bath/1,500 sq ft?you could have a house twice this size cleaned thoroughly for less than $300! The receipt for the carpet cleaning looked a little more legit because it was on the company??s letterhead and it was itemized, but the total charge was for $299. So I called the company and described the house and they said they would normally charge $99 for that job. Upon further inspection of the ??receipt? it was obvious that $99 was the original charge, but someone (I??m guessing Connie) had added figures or wrote over the original figures to make the total charge $299; then they made a copy of the receipt and sent me the copy.
