We love this place. when I read the rviews that they were in it for the money it made me mad. I just took a stray cat to them and was not even a client. they took it in, tested it, vaccinated it and found it a home. never asked for a dime. never questioned us just helped us. I know they can't do this for every animal and it may have been our lucky day but we changed our animals to them and they were just as awesome to us. in it for the animals is what I would say! the rest of the negative reviews are so far off its not funny
the reason there are so many reviews of this place is because they are the best. I read the reviews and find most of them funny. People want the best medicine, surgery, and all the rest but are mad that their prices don't match the internet. give them a break. you want cheap prices go buy your stuff at the pet store or online. Any business owner will tell you they can't match a website and keep their doors open to give you advice. these vets are great. they do a wonderful job and the owners are nice people. I have used them for many years and even have seen them at different practices when they didn't own them. they were the same then as they are now. you want cheap prices you will get cheap service. can't have the lexus at the honda price.
I can answer both posts below. First anyone in the vet field knows no one is in it for the money! They make nothing. all vets should require you to get a written prescription and should warn you of products via the Internet. That is something you should want. There are so many fake and foreign products. Vets mark up products to cover the hospital they have to keep for clients. Websites don't have the issue.
Now to the next post. You seem to have a lot of issues. The funny thing is the vet you are talking about sent you over for a suspected mass in the abdomen. Our specialists reviewed the X-rays and needed an ultrasound to rule it out. Your lucky someone didn't try surgery first. You should be thankful. Also there is no such thing anywhere as a $350 X-ray. Check your facts and don't threaten to go to my employer. You seem to want to discuss issues online about a case the vet can't reply to due to confidentiality. Think about it. Your lucky to have a vet like that. We see many cases from this hospital and they are excellent
Tim J. (below) is right- to think that these people would give themselves 5 stars. A great example of the arrogance. It's greed all the way. Prices through the roof, unwillingness to help you save a buck on generics or mail order Rx's, and outright intimidation and misinformation if you question them. I was told that my pet's generic online (which was less than half their price, btw) would actually harm my pet. I investigated this thoroughly and found out that the generic is NO DIFFERENT and no less effective... they want ALL the $$ to stay with them. They can be very catty (no pun intended and no disrespect to the cats) and oddly suspicious of clients. The employee's attitudes sometimes echo the arrogant and rigid attitudes of the owners. They are in business for all the wrong reasons. Go elsewhere- Lakecross is terrific.
My friend forwarded this post to me on face book because I was on this case at the specialty hospital. This guy is crazy!!! our specialist did the ultrasound and this animal is not 'normal'. I would like this guy to post the report he went home with so everyone can read it. there is obviously some other issue, not medicine, that this guy is pissed at. hope the referral vets fire you as a client!
While I won't copy and paste my personal business paper work on the internet as you suggest I will write VERBATIM what came off the report from CVS, I sure hope you weren't the "Specialist" who wrote this.... So here it is.
"Based on the ultrasound we can rule out a discrete mass in the abdomen at this time" This was HOURS after Mark had given the diagnosis in my orignial post.
The report goes on to discuss blood levels and medicinal recommendations.
By the way Susan, I have brought my dog to CVS where you work and found their service great and their advice of the same quality. If you call yourself a professional then you might want to give some thought to backing up your worthless hearsay with facts. In case you missed the whole darn point here, let me repeat it. Birkdale charged me $350 for an Xray THEY claimed showed a large mass. I went downt the road to CVS literally hours later and they said we see nothing using an ultrasound. All I wanted from Birkdale was a refund for REALLY BAD AND EXPENSIVE ADVICE THAT WAS WORTHLESS.
Would you like to argue this furhter becuase if you do, I would be happy to take this matter up with your employer in person.
I would like to Thank Dr. Mark for all he has done with all of our pets over the year's but after reading the other reviews it's clear that the same problem I had today is what many people have experienced already. I paid a premium every time I took my pets in for regular check-ups or emergency visits and you expect to be treated with respect. This is the first review I have ever posted on a business and from this day forward, I will read between the lines before choosing to do business with someone first.
I love Birkdale Animal Hospital! I'm 54 years old and have tried many different vets in my lifetime. I'm picky when it comes to someone caring for my pets. Between my two daughters and I, we have 7 shihtzus cared for by Dr. Mark. He is professional, caring and personable. His prices are fair. On many occasions, I feel like Dr. Mark has gone above and beyond! Just today, I arrived with my dog and two grandchildren sound asleep in their carseats. Rather than wake them up, a caring staff member brought my dog to Dr. Mark and he and a staff member came out to my car to explain the diagnosis and the medication she needed. I was totally amazed!! He's just so nice. I've been to vet practices that have seemed more like a factory. I love the personal, friendly atmosphere at Birkdale Animal Hospital. My three-year old grandson's favorite outing is to the vet. They have a really fun play area and the staff members are very friendly to him. We never wait long to be seen. I've never left this practice dissatisfied and would highly recommend Birkdale Animal Hospital.
Ive visited many vets in my day and will go no where else. The staff seems to be very helpful and knowledgable knowing my animals are very hard to deal with. Many times they actually like to be there. Dr mark and team have taken wonderful care of my animals and will continue
to do so. Highly recommended.
I moved to Charlotte a few years ago and live Uptown. I found a vet nearby that was horrible. I'm not one to complain, but they were very expensive and were unable to fix my dog's chronic eye issues. I went to Birkdale Animal Hospital as a recommendation from another family member. I would not trust my dogs anywhere else. I have had a great experience with both the vets and the staff. My two dogs are happy and healthy thanks to Birkdale Animal Hospital. They work with me when I need a quick appointment and are able to accomodate my work schedule. There are several vets between Charlotte and Huntersville but I wouldn't go anywhere else!
So my wife and I took our dogs to Birkdale for several years and found Dr. Mark and Dr. Sarah to be amazing with our kids/dogs. Great knowledge and went above and beyond on more than one time for us. That being said, we no longer go there because of the staff. Not the vet-techs, but the admin staff. One staff member had just finished a call with a client, and upon hanging up went on to make fun of that person to a co-worker, with us about 10 feet away listening to the whole thing. Like Dr. Mark said on here, we raised the concern to him, and he defended the employee. We expect professionalism in our vets office as there are far too many around to deal with disrespectful employees. We have never stepped foot back in there due to the response we received about or concern and are very happy with our new vets office. It is a horrible shame, because Dr. Mark and Dr. Sarah took great care of our dogs, but I am not going to support a business that defends those types of actions from employees.
Not only did we have this issue, but we recommended that our friends go there. They decided not to go back after one visit but never told us why. After we told them of our issue they explained that they felt that the admin staff was rude and uncaring. I understand that they do not handle the animals.....but would you go to a Physician's office if the admin staff was rude and uncaring? I certainly would not.
One more issue, our dog was tied by our leash in the back when waiting on work, and twice chewed through a leash and harness. They did not offer anything off our bill to compensate. I get that my dog chewed through the leash and harness, but why was he tied to a counter-top long enough for that to happen?
Mark and Sarah have been my vet of choice for a couple of years now and I have never had an experience with either one of them that didn't make me wish my personal doctors had the same level of 'bedside manner.' I had the unfortunate necessity of needing to call on them while I was traveling with my dogs over the summer and Dr. Mark was right there for us - on the phone and willing to liaison with local vets if necessary to make sure we got the level of care I'm accustomed to at home. It's sad that it seems justified to assume that level of personalized care doesn't exist anymore but I'm thankful to have been proven wrong. I certainly recommend Mark and Sarah without hesitation.
To say that I am appalled at the negative reviews for Birkdale Animal Hospital is an understatement. While Dr. Mark is well qualified and has handled several situations with our dog, Dr. Sarah is my absolute favorite. I was her customer before they opened their own practice and, during the few months that I did not know where she was or how to get in touch with her, I was heartbroken, and I literally cried. The day I got a personal note from her, along with a picture of her newborn, was a happy day for me. Dr. Sarah has been my dog's vet, my friend, my therapist, the bearer of bad news (a Cushing's Disease diagnosis), and cried as hard as I did the day we had to make the decision that no pet owner wants to make.
In fact, Dr. Sarah is the main reason I got another dog. I couldn't bear a life without her in it!
There's no better veterinarian than Dr. Sarah McGeough. I promise. I agree with another person who wrote that one of the reviewers must've been confused about the name of the clinic because Dr. Sarah is not capable of being rude.
I have never been around two veterinarians (and staff, by the way) who have been more compassionate, caring and flexible. When my beloved German Shepherd suddenly passed away and I was in Europe, Mark was gentle and caring with my wife and, although I was wandering the streets in Barcelona with tears rolling down my cheeks, everyone at Birkdale went out of their way to help me get over my grief. We consider Mark and his staff almost family members, my current dog, Jonny boards there and is happy, as are we. I could never recommend anyone higher than Birkdale, and I hope they are looking after our "furry children" for years to come.
I read the poor review below and wonder if they are really sure they know what they are talking about. I take my cat there all the time and he likes the Dr. and he likes the staff and he is very discriminating. :) I have always been pleased with them and can not imagine why everyone doesn't take their pets there. I needed to get cat food somewhere else because our cat was being picky and I had to have our records sent to that office because it is a prescription food and I actually felt a little guilty like I was not being loyal. The only reason I can possibly imagine that the review below in not good is because they are confused with which vet they actually went to.
Boarding is fantastic!
Care is also fantastic!
Staff is very nice and caring!
Prices for services very good!
You will be nothing but pleased!
We have used Birkdale Animal Hospital for about 5 years. Our first encounter was with our dog Sissy. We had just lost Sissy's mate to cancer and needless to say we were very emotional. Dr. Sarah quickly picked up that Sissy was very ill herself. She was very professional and very compassionate. She was very honest and forthright with her illness and began immediate treatment.
During the next several months, we saw both Dr. Mark and Dr. Sarah. Because of the exceptional care and compassion we received, we have become one of their devoted clients.
We lost our 14 year old kitty Scooter last January and I was very impressed with how they were with us during such a difficult time. Their staff was even considerate of not putting us in the same room where Scooter passed away on our next visit.
Today, I'm glad to say that Sissy is well and happy because of the these two compassionate, knowledgeable and professional vets. Her little girl Baby is thriving and Clooney loves Dr. Mark and Dr. Sarah.
With 6 cats and 3 dogs, I feel very qualified to say that Birkdale Animal Hospital and their wonderful staff are our vets.
Reommend? Most definitely!

We have been bringing our dogs to these wonderful caring vets along with their great staff. They truly care about your pets. They keep you informed along with being available to answer questions as well. We boarded our dogs with them and they truly care about your pets. We recommended them highly to anyone who cares about their pets.

I boarded my dog there and was promised daily web updates. He was boarded for 4 days and I only receieved 1 update. I asked that he be kept in his cage and they told me that was not a problem. yet upon pick-up he was crying in a kennel. I was told he was walked at 4pm and not walked nor fed until the next day. On that day, my dog had soiled his cage. He also came home with a laceration on his nose. When I spoke with the vet, she was harsh and unprofessional and told me that my dog was not allowed to stay there ever again. When I dropped off my dog he weighed 18.6 lbs, 3 days later, he weighed 15.3 lbs (same scale). The vet was not apologetic at all and in fact called me names and accused me of being rude rather than being empatheic with my concerns. There was also a picture that got on my dog's personal page of what looked like teeth and because it was a holiday weekend I was not able to call to see what the picture was. Even after speaking to the vet, they put blame on their web designer, rather than just apologizing for the picture which ruined my vacation as I could not sleep due to worry. The female vet was uncompassionate and unprofessional. I have never receieved such bad service. I am a business owner and when there is a disconnect with service; I take responsibility. The vet simply told me "that my dog is not welcomed there EVER again and that I was wrong for being worried." I have seen positive reviews for the facility, but based on my experience I can honestly say Birkdale Animal Hospital should not be reccomended if that is how they handle their cleintele. I can only imagine how they handle their animals, I still have no idea for sure if my dog even received his shots, because the vet hung up on me.
I was asked never to call them again. Terrible treatment from Birkdale Animal Hospital.

We have been very blessed to have Drs. Sarah and Mark in the lives of our pets over the past several years. We were with Dr. Sarah before Birkdale ever started and we followed her and drive 13 miles instead of three to see her and Dr. Mark. They have been so caring in the loss of three of our beloved pets and work hard to control costs for us with our newest adoption that was discovered to have kidney issues. We have had nothing but good treatment by the staff.
I think the people posting the negative reviews either are referring to the wrong clinic.
We at Birkdale Animal Hospital take great pride in what we do. We offer every client and patient the best we can. We are honest enough to admit we will not be right for every owner or every animal. We do not pretend to know everything or say we can fix everything but we will offer all that animal medicine has to offer. I would advise and encourage every new and old client to talk to us about their issues. Posting comments on web pages anonymously does not help us fix any problems we may have and also does not give us a chance to explain any thing that may have occurred. We would encourage every one to come see us and communicate with us. This is our living so making slanderous, open ended, anonymous statements about us does no one any good. We are happy to answer any questions directed to us.\r
