Great small museum area cafe. Simple, lite and fresh soups and sandwiches are served daily. This is not you standard old lunch. Great artsy vibe makes up the cafe atmosphere. Locally owned.

Yet another reason the Montrose is the best neighborhood in Texas for food. Simple, yet flavorful food. Chicken poblano tart; great lunch item. Location is awesome and urban. Surprised it took me so long to visit this place, but can guarantee it will be a regular stopping point.

Just went there for lunch with couple friends for the first time. Love the decor and atmosphere. Staffs are nice, too. Had the BLT/A Sandwich which was wonderfully delicious. My friend had the Chicken Poblano tart and she loved it, too. However, everything went well until I open my to go Chocolate Raspberry Bouquet tart ($9) and discovered the molded raspberries while eating it...

It's hard for me to give out the stars. For decor, savory tarts, and sandwiches, I'll give a 4 star. But for the awful experience of the sweet tart, I can only give out 1 star....

I'm always looking for a secret dining hideaway that is delicious, chic and has character. John Ray perfects simplicity of flavor and decor! Some friends and I each ordered something different and ended up sharing because we were greedy. My poblano corn tart was outstanding! The artichoke & mozzarella sandwich was embarassingly delicious and the PMS is everything your mom said it would be. I indulged myself with the Coconut Almond Cream Cheese tart ... lets just say that it's life on the other side of the counter was short lived.

i truly love going to tart, because it fits my personality. often times when i am looking for the perfect restaurant or hang out, i am looking for excellent and savory food, good service, and ecclectic ambiance. because of my love for interior design, fashion, and food; i consider every eat out occasion an experience. i want to be over stimulated by the decor of a place and hope that the food that follows can only match the mind blowing moment. what i love about tart is john ray's space, it is truly fabulous. modern, but not offputting. an ecclectic feel with traditional finds from the BLT with a twist to his mother's fabulous sissie cookies. i take my dad to tart on nice days, so we can sit outside and enjoy montrose with ray's fresh delicacies. i appreciate his attention to detail and cleanliness and ever friendly personality. a huge tip off for me at tart, is there free wifi. in this day and age, a cafe without wifi, is a tux without a bow tie - it just doesn't feel right. i just wish they stayed open later, so i could come here and study with my PMS loaded. the food at tart is divine. i recommend saving room for dessert and a latte. for dessert my dad loves the rasberry tart and i love the sissie cookies. their dulce de lattes are quite scrumptious as well.

thank you john ray for this fabulous montrose cafe where i feel at home every time i walk through its steel doors.

Tart Cafe is amazing.... John Ray has put a really contemporary and funky spin on some classic recipes passed down in his family. This casual yet trendy Montrose cafe will not be a passing fad. Everything on the menu is amazing, particularly the BLT + A salad... Imported Applewood Smoked Bacon with a creamy buttermilk ranch dressing is topped with avocado... I crave it all the time!!! And each of the tarts are so delicious, and with mini tarts, you can try each one!! The decor is modern, yet inviting, and the service is wonderful. And I also had the best late ever at Tart.... Everything John touches turns to .... well, devoured!!!

Pros: Consistency (every menu item is equally fabulous), atmosphere, service, prices

Cons: sometimes a little warm, and the location can be obscure if you are not looking for it....
