Groupon buyers beware! I purchased a Groupon for a Brazilian Blowout from this salon. When I arrived to redeem the purchase, I was told that I would be charged $100 extra (more than the original cost of the Groupon) for a "long hair fee."

had the worst salon experience ever at primp on my wedding day! I purchased the bridal package with a trial hair and makeup and then the actual wedding day hair and makeup. They lost my appointment when I came in for my trial, but alecks still did a fantastic job. However, when I came in for the wedding day it was utter chaos and the worst service ever. My sister and MOH sat in a pedi bath for 30 mins before worked on, makeup was done terribly and the girl walked out on the appt. halfway thru for no reason and never came back... The pedicurist was terrible at designs. My sister's hair ended up like a rats nest and had to be re-done. They didn't even put lipstick or mascara on me. Pretty sad when you have to do your own makeup on your wedding day. Cashier took more tip than I told her to and never asked how was our service. So rude! Worst part is I tried contacting the manager twice about my experience and she never responded. I have never been treated so poorly at a salon. If you can't handle complaints, DON'T run a business founded on customer service!! I will be telling everyone I know about this salon.. definitely never going back!

Worst salon experience in my entire life. Please read this to see the true colors behind Primp's pretentious persona.

Let my start off by explaining that I have been seeing the same Mitchell's stylist for the past 7 years of my life.

I had my hair colored at this place and paid almost $200. The color faded and dried out my hair terribly. I called and asked if there was something I was doing wrong (like using bad products etc.) and they said I could come back in and they would take a look. I made an appointment got a conditioning treatment and they charged me MORE $$$. I finally had to go somewhere else and get my mid/long length hair cut short. I'm just thankful it's hair and hopefully I can start over.

I don't suggest this place if you are looking for modern color, healthy hair, at a fair price. Afterall, you won't be going out to get a drink if your hair is ugly :)

Seriously $75 for a haircut? and then my poor mother got stuck with a $300.00 pedicure bill for 3 people (they fogot to mention that there was a sizeable upcharge on the extra services they were pushing.)

Don't waste your time at this salon, there are plenty of reasonably priced places to get your hair and nails done and you can get a drink a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Very Disappointed!

The headline says it all!! Lisa is a doll but besides that, she is creative, understands what look works best for you and takes in consideration the cut, style and color and she works very well in helping you decide whether a certain look that you're interested in trying is actually going to work for you or not but she will always do her very best in making sure that you're 100% happy before you get out of the chair!

I've been going to Lisa for 6 years now....even before she joined Primp and I've never walked out unhappy or dissatisfied!

Yes, Primp is a bit over-priced and it's a bit far for me to travel but finding a good stylist is not e-z these days but once you find someone that's as good as she is, it's worth sticking with them and I don't mind paying good $$ for a great haircut, style or highlighting.

The atmosphere is very contemporary, relaxing and nice to see that they have several flatscreen TV's located throughout the salon as well as a news ticker. Comfortable seating, plenty of reading material, beautiful bar area, warm cashews (you have to ask for them if not offered) and top-of-the-line hair products are available, too.

THE DOWNSIDE:
The girls in the front do have to be a bit friendlier, they should smile more and they have to "up" their assistance in getting you a drink whether it's liquor, water or anything else you might like. These things need attention by the owner and from what I understand, one owner recently left and from what I saw on my last visit, the other partner is turning all the negatives around to the positive and there definitely was an improvement at the front reception counter.

If you are like me, you can overlook the little "quirks" with the reception area as long as the stylist is making you happy and as I said, I've been very satisfied with Lisa for a long time now and if she should ever leave....well, I'll track her dow n wherever she goes just to keep her doing my hair! As I said, a good stylist is hard to find these days! Being from NY/NJ and moving to the South, you can never be too sure what you're going to find out there, right?

Thanks Lisa and thanks Primp SalonBar in making me one extremely happy customer!!

I went to Primp more than a few times to give the salon chance after chance. It was always the same. The front desk staff is the rudest I have EVER seen. Even though your going to pay A LOT for services...they don't care. You have to wait FORVER to get a drink and then I had to find someone and ask them to get me one.....STILL took forever! The owner herself is rude and arrogant too! I am SO glad I found somewhere else to go! I will never go back and give Primp ANY of my money.

I love Primp Salon, I go to see Lisa and have been so fortunate to finally have a relationship with my stylist where I can say what I want and she does it EXACTLY how I like. The cocktails are a plus and the ambiance is nice. I recommended Primp to a friend of mine who has terribly poofy and really frizzy hair- needless to say it is quite the task to work on her, but she went and LOVED her hair. The people at the front can be a little quiet but its not a big deal- primp is awesome!

I went to Primp in need of a color correction and a cut. I believe they just wanted my appointment rather than fitting me in with a colorist who knew what she was doing. I walked out of there after four chemical processes with a hair color that wasn't much better than when I started. Furthermore, the haircut I received was amateurish and demonstrated a total lack of skill.

They people weren't very nice and they kept offering me drinks. Great. I don't mind a drink at 10AM, but really, could someone just focus on my hair?

The concept, design, & atmosphere at Primp is stylish and comfortable, true. However, I recently called to make an appointment with Alecks & to my great disappointment found out he was no longer there! Background: I'm 35 yrs old with long blonde hair (dishwater color if left untouched) and have struggled to find a colorist & stylist that has the understanding and talent to get it right everytime. I've been to top salons in Boston and even London. The best I've ever come across and finally have found is Alecks (Eason?). So, back to present, I of course panicked when Primp didn't provide any info. on Alecks' current contact. Understandably, it is a service industry and maintaining clients is important. Evenstill, I felt pushed and dismissed by the Primp rep. A bit of advice I'll humbly or rather boldly offer, sometimes its better to simply do the right thing and forward information to a client who seems definitive when a stylist moves on. Without that, it makes the situation awkward and at least appear unprofessional. Although Primp has a nice atmosphere, the bottom line is the client's desired end result. I did a quick google search for Alecks and found his contact info on myspace. He has a small stylish business called Blades Studio (building behind the Haven on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh). My appointment was earlier today & I'm still smiling!!!

i started going to primp on the recommendation of a friend. I lived a block from it, and it was also a convenient place to run after work for a quick haircut or pedicure before the weekend got started. I have since moved further away, and still love going there. Everyone is always friendly when I go there. My appointment times are always kept - I never go there and have to wait around to get up in the chair. I got married a few months ago, and the manager and the rest of the staff was great at making sure that I had all the appointments I needed for myself as well as my bridal party, all the way up to touch-ups the day of the wedding. The nail technicians are great. Manicures and pedicures will last 2 weeks at a minimum without chipping or needing re-touched, and I work all day with my hands. And it's nice to be able to talk to the person that's painting your nails.

Another reason to check it out is the overall atmosphere of the place. It's upbeat, playing good music while you're there, which makes it fit in with it's downtown location. And who can forget the bar?! It's so nice to be able to enjoy a glass of wine or a martini while getting a manicure.

If you're looking for a great salon downtown, this is one definitely worth checking out!

What a wonderful place...upscale atmosphere, great tasting margaritas! I had hair color done here. The last time I had my color done (some where else...) the only comment I got at work was "did you do something to your hair?" After having my color done at Primp, EVERYONE noticed and three weeks later I am still getting comments on how great it looks, what a wonderful color etc. This is from co-workers as well as customers.. I will definitely go back.

I recently visited this place with one of my friends from NY. I wanted to show her that even little old Raleigh had something this cool. We were treated like queens. The owner/manager sat down with us and chatted like we were old friends and made us feel very welcome. The girl that did my hair, I think her name is Lisa did an amazing job with my blond color. I am definitely switching to this salon and will be a long time customer. This crazy guy with funky hair, Alex I think, worked on my friend and she loved her new cut! It was a great experience and within walking distance to Vin where we ate dinner after we treated ourselves to this experience.

Good pedicure, but really not any better than I get at my regular $25.00 salon! They do make good drinks, but that's not worth the price of being treated rudely. The technicians & stylists that I had contact with were very pleasant, but the owner/manager on the other hand could use a refresher course in what makes a successful business! It's not all about the pretty people ... you have to treat people well too! Perhaps she was just having a bad day? I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and try it again! For the most part, she came off as quite the snob and didn't seem at all interested in her customers.

Let me tell you, I had one of the worst experiences at this salon. I am one of those people who rarely complain.. I don't send my food back if they added onions, I'll simply take them off and enjoy.. However for this experience I had to speak my mind. I had made an appointment for a few friends and I to get pedicures and cut and styles. We were all so excited and eager to have a martini while getting ourselves beautified. I had called to make the appointment for us a week before. The woman on the phone seemed a little bothered and annoyed by my phone call, but I brushed it off assuming she was just having a bad day. Well when we arrived for our appointment the receptionist (later to find out The OWNER) was not very welcoming at all. she didn't even smile at us or make us feel comfortable, and again I felt like we were bothering her to have walked through the door. we told her our names and she told us to wait on the couches. Well 10 minutes goes by and we're then told that there must have been a scheduling error because they only had us down for half of what I had booked us for. I know for certain I had made the appointment for all the services, this was supposed to be a very special occasion and I wouldn't get this wrong. Well to make a long story short they ended up comping some of our drinks. Our services felt rushed and for the prices of the cuts, I definitely was not impressed. We still didn't get all the services we wanted, especially in the way I requested. This was supposed to be a nice enjoyable evening with my friends, instead it turned out to be just a very stressful and disappointing one. Aside from the atmosphere, nothing was really that impressive. Most of the staff seemed very superficial and snobby. Judging from the owner, I'm not surprised... she was just so fake and disrespectful to us, it was sickening. So all in all I don't recommend this place and happy to say I will not be back.

Let me tell you, I had one of the worst experiences at this salon. I am one of those people who rarely complain.. I don't send my food back if they added onions, I'll simply take them off and enjoy.. Pros: fun atmosphere, music, TV's

Cons: Rude, parking is horrible, snobby

I was a little upset as i entered what i was thinking to be the best spa day ever...i was going to get an eyebrow wax, a hair cut as well as a pedicure..But the minute i walked in a young and sorry too say somewhat ditzy girl was talking on the phone for a good 3 mins. before she even acknowledged my existence..Then as i tried to ignore the 1st impression i tried 3 times to order a drink and never got a response.
The service was ok although the haircut was not worth the 50 $. But at best i got a good paint job on my toes....
And the worst....PARKING oh my gosh you have got to be kidding me. Who wants to go get there hair and nails done after walking a mile to get there....

I was so excited to spice up my look for the spring. Walking into the salon, I was greeted by a beautiful decor and warm ambiance. That seemed to be about all the salon had going for it. The guy that did my hair was nice, but if felt like he rushed through and was very sloppy with his work. I wanted to go blonder and asked for a full head of highlights. The color must have been over or under processed. It was a terrible orange/yellow color that looked like it came from a box. The bottom half of my hair was not colored at all, however for the price I payed I would have expected it to have been. The blond highlights did not compliment my current hair color at all. The cut was sloppy and uneven. The lighting in the salon made it hard to tell what the actual color looked like. When I got in the car I thought it looked funky, but I thought it may be the lighting, but when I got home I was shocked at just how bad the color really was. The cut and color cost $165, which is a tad bit more than what I am used to paying. On top of that, I am going to have to spend more money to go somewhere else and have my hair fixed. Overall, I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. My hair looks TERRIBLE. By far THE WORST CUT AND COLOR I HAVE EVER HAD!

Very pleased with my entire experience! I had a mimosa while getting my hair done. Andrea did an incredible job with my color and cut. And they were kind enough to fit in an eyebrow wax while I was there. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. I would certainly recommend Primp to anyone who is interested in a new look. I personally thought the prices for hair treatments were reasonable. This is a fun, hip, happening salon!!!

Cons: not a lot of parking

I had the worst experience, granted others may have different experiences, but be forewarned. A friend and I made appointments for the "tinis and toes" at the only time they had available, right before closing. The staff member I had did the very least for me, soaked my feet, one or two swipes with the file, then painted my toes, put my flip flops on and then she was out the door before my friend had even started getting her toes painted. I sat and watched my friend receive a prolonged calf and food massage, and a couple of great foot treatments/lotions, all while her staff member made friendly conversation with her. I was very polite to the lady doing my pedicure, too polite I'm told, and I spent money I didn't even have for nothing! As a consolation they gave me a ticket to some party they were having with free cocktails, but I already had other plans. I felt very cheated, and hope no one else has the same experience.

Pros: great atmosphere and martinis

Cons: overpriced with poor staff

Awesome idea and beautiful setting but good luck finding anyone that is courteous or knows anything about what is going on there - even manager was rude! Too bad because this could be a great place...

Is there anything better than highlights, a pedicure AND a martini? Great place for a girl's night out, although a little pricey for routine hair "maintenance".
