too "Americanized"

our waitress said,
This is an American-friendly place.
Unlike the other places up Buford Hwy fr here -- "scary" --
eg, dirty,
eg, menus don't have enough English on them.

yuk!
that's all I needed to hear!
Com is made for people who like Disneyland -- ie, who want a sugar-coated "ethnic dining experience."

My friend & I ordered:

1) chkn curry --
all liquid -- like SOUP!
with a few chunks of chkn sitting in it.
and 2 or 3 tiny chunks of sweet potato.
and a lot of fat globules -- high calorie?
hot? Spicy, yes, good. But temp -- lukewarm at best.

2) lamb w/ rice vermicilli noodles.--
ok.
but it was crying out for A TON of veggies, ... and yet ... there were hardly ANY!
WTF!
just a couple of token slivers. -- onion or something?
how yummy this dish would have been with a heap of steamed veggies added -- zucchini, carrots, potatoes, green beans,... sheesh, ANYthing!

Flavor itself of our 2 dishes -- fine.
But we were appalled at the BLATANT LACK OF VEGETABLES.

also -- other Vietnamese restaurants we have eaten at -- have brought us a large platter of leafy greens, we call them "weeds" -- to accompany our meal.
The only accoutrement we got at Com was 4 tiny pieces of French = WHITE bread, lightly toasted.

We are very healthy eaters --
lots of fruits & veg, whole grain breads, etc.
Com was just NOT a healthy repast.

and overpriced.
$24 + $6 tip = $30 total.
for just 2 entrees + 1 beer.
ie, no appetizers, only 1 drink, no desserts.
what a ripoff.
-------------------------------
anyway,
we decided ,
nxt time,
we are going to go more "authentic." --

just drive up Buford Hwy --
so many Asian restaurants,,
and pick the one that looks the grungiest -- eg, largest pile of dead cats out back. :)

I tried this place a few weeks ago b/c my roommate recommended it, but I will NEVER go here again. Our server was awful, I asked him several times to recommend some dishes since I had never been there before. I could not understand him and everything he said was contradictory - for example he would tell me something was good and then later that he didn't recommend it. Overall the food was slim pickings and it had no flavor to it at all, it was a total waste of money.

Cons: Horrible service, disgusting food

I cant pronounce what I had, but it was good. For an appetizer I had some beef wrapped in grape leaves and for the main course had some rice noodles with shredded pork. An interesting mixture of tastes. It takes quite a bit of food to actually make me feel full but I left here completely satisfied....which seems rare for an Atlanta restaurant these days. The price is right too. If it werent so far away, I'd probably go here more often. We walked right in on a Saturday night with no wait and were seated immediately. The only downside to the seating...in order to fit as many people into the restaurant (which was pretty much completely full) they have to set a row of tables together almost like one long table (see the picture above).

Pros: Great value, interesting flavors

Cons: Felt like I was eating at McDonalds due to the seating arrangement

Three of us went there for dinner at 7pm on a Friday night and there were many tables available. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious - chicken and beef flat rice vermicelli and the chicken curry. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will return in the future. It's a great place to have a quick, nice dinner.

Everything we have tried here is delicious and very fresh. I love their Banh Hoi. So much fun to make.

Pros: Spring Rolls

Cons: Location

Amazing grilled meats, served over fragrant rice or vermicelli. I especially like the bun vermicelli, where you esentially get to make little lettuce wraps out of your meat, friend vermicelli, cilantro, basil, jicama, cucumber, carrot, and vietnamese sauce. All of the flavors are fresh and light.

This is a great place to bring a small group of friends or a date. Everything I've tried has been delicious, and we especially enjoy the papaya & apple salad (with chicken). Prices are great, food is good, and the atmosphere is more festive/elegant than most mom & pop Vietnamese restaurants. Definitely give it a try. Beer & Wine served.

In comparison with my old favorite, Bien Thuy, which sadly no longer exists, Com Vietnamese is no equal, but it does have an adequate choice of good food at a reasonable price.

The curry chicken soup, beef on rice with shrimp and crab cake, and bun (vermicelli) were all quite good. One warning though: DO NOT ORDER THE ICED TEA. It was undrinkable. When we sent our glasses back, complaining that the tea was extremely bitter, the waitress tried to convince us that Jasmine tea tasted bitter. My partner and I both drink several glasses of Jasmine tea each day, and it does not taste like the swill this waitress tried to pass off as tea. Also, one last complaint, the spring rolls were very small, not that great, and outrageously over priced.

Overall, although not outstanding, this restaurant is certainly worth trying.

Great grilled food, salads on a cold winter night. Fantastic salads, starters. Our waiter, Tom, guided us through the menu. All of his recommendations were spot on. Wine list could use some improvement, but a great experience -- and value -- overall.

Pros: Food quality, Service, Variety

I've tried all kinds of Vietnamese restaurants in big cities all around the country: Los Angeles, Houston, New York City, etc. and so far this is the best one! I've brought many friends here and they all love it. Service could use some improvement and music is a little too loud, but the food makes up for everything!

In 150 words you'd never capture the Vietnamese hip-hop music, authentic Vietnamese grill, and sheer pleasure of this dining experience. Their superbly marinated meats and seafood blew us all away. Their price is incredible reasonable, with good selection of wines and Asian beers. I have one of my best meals there; and I stand by it. I just love their grape leave rolls, also known as la lot, so much. Try this place and you will not be disappointed!

Great food. Very cool alternative place. Service was slow to pick up dishes once we finished dinner. This did not seem to be due to being over-worked.
