We first went here when we saw the delightful "Kids Eat Free" on Saturday sign. That is a bonus! We keep going back because it is good food, a great "family run" atmosphere and they serve a garbage plate that takes us back to our college days. If you don't know what a garbage plate is- go and find out! The pizza is really yummy too!The only con I can think of is that it is a bit smokey for us if there are a lot of people smoking at the bar,

This place is a neck magnet. When I say neck I don't mean just your average country boy, I mean your sleazy night time trash. It's awful.

The people who work there, well 75% of them wouldn't know customer service if it kicked them in the hind end.

It's just a sleazy place, with rude employees that is swarmed with necks on Friday and Saturday. I will never go back. The beer prices might be pretty good, but I'll pay and extra dollar not to feel likeI'm in a Kid Rock video.

Pros: price of beer

Cons: too many to list

o'Dwyers has done a complete 180!
Banned smoking back in August and the crowd that goes with it. Greatly improved the beer selection with micro breweries and premium beers.
Either sent the old chef to cooking school or back to prison, either way the food has improved greatly.
No more bikers, TVs have child appropriate content playing, no more blasting heavy metal.
Great place to go for dinner and let your kids occupy themselves in the game room.
Congrats for turning this place around.
it has gone from the very last resort to my favorite place!

Pros: NO SMOKE Beer selection is AWESOME, food greatly improve

Cons: not closer to my house

Not sure about all of the others on here or the comments about "canned" music. I would rather have a DJ playing hits than some lousy band shredding a good song.
The DJ at O'Dwyers (Brian Pate) has really added life to this place. They only use him on Friday nights but the party is always off the hook.
Friday is the only night I go to this place, and I don't go to a tavern looking for 5 star service like some of the others on here. I go for a drink and good music and I get both at this place.

Pros: Great music and nice looking ladies (for the most part)

Cons: small dancing area- not a real dancefloor

.

Not sure what the last review was referring to when they mentioned great live music... The new owners have stopped bringing in bands and have settled on DJ's and open mic nights. So....if you want to hear canned music or some talentless hack that's dying to play for free, this is the place to go. If you want to hear a decent live band, you probably have to go downtown, which is sad because O'Dwyers used to be one of the few places in Wake Forest that had decent live music.

Beyond that, I've got to agree with the other negative reviews. Marginal food, marginal beer selection, nothing too special about this place. Not a dump, but definitely not worth going to when there are at least 3-4 significantly better bars within 3 miles of this place.

BTW, I can't speak for others, but I'm not a disgruntled former employee, just a disgruntled former patron. I've taken my business elsewhere...I suggest others do the same.

Pros: None

Cons: No more bands, below average food

Having suffered through the nuances of the previous owner, I was excited to hear about the change in ownership! Almost immediately the kitchen staff was replaced and the quality of the food reflects it. Looking for a quick snack? YOU GOTTA GET THE WINGS!!! Something a little lighter maybe? Go for the Club salad, Its delicious and HUGE - be prepared to take half of it home. Something you don't find at the local Chain's or the mom & pop watering holes...

The entertainment has improved with more quality live bands and DJ's as well as a new Karaoke DJ on Wednesdays. The new owners also upgraded the ventilation system so no more "wall of smoke" when you walk through the door. In addition, they also expanded the No Smoking section in the dining area so you and your family can enjoy your meal with out it tasting like an ashtray...

I only recognize a few of the employees that were around before the new owners so it seems that the wait and bar staff have been overhauled as well. Long waits for food and/or drinks are a thing of the past. (I can't help be think that some of the negative reviews here are by former employees)

All-in-all, the place has undergone huge improvements! If your looking for a great place to hang out, meet some friends, grab a quick bite, have a couple cocktails, OD's is the place to go.

Pros: Friendly, courteous staff, great food, prices are extremely reasonable,

Cons: Would like to see more microbrews/specialty beers

.

I personally think that the new owners have made a difference. Putting ventilation in the bar was a great improvement!!!!! Adding Brian Pate as the DJ on Friday nights another great move! Putting exxit doors off of the resturant side also a good idea! The service at Carolina Ale House really isn't better...... some people just prefer the chain type of bar and I do not.....only on occassion. Give them a try.

Pros: Better ventilation in the bar area which was a turn off to many under the previous ownership

Beer selection is marginal. Food is hideous. I'm from upstate NY and I'd be embarrassed to eat this mess, much less serve it. Cheese on Spiedies?? Worst Rueben I've ever had and every chicken dish I've ever ordered there has been bone dry. Wait staff is inconsistent--sometimes pleasant, sometimes nasty, usually inattentive. Last owners were grumpy. New owners are rude and incompetent. They're no longer offering live music because they want to be "a total sports bar", but the last time I was in there on a Saturday night, they had Finding Nemo playing on the three largest TVs in the dining area. The truth is that these guys don't know how to run a bar around here and they're cutting every cost they can in a pathetic attempt to salvage this place because they can't decide if they want to be a watering hole or Disney World. If they kept it simple, hired some decent cooks, revamped the menu, and stopped treating customers like an inconvenience, they'd be golden, but for some reason, they just don't get it.

If you want great food and a FANTASTIC selection of beers, go to Old Chicago. If you don't mind mediocre food, you can get a respectable selection of brews at Carolina Ale House. Oh'Mulligans offers a decent selection of beers and great food with a pleasant atmosphere. Honestly, the bar at Applebees has more cred than O'Dwyers.

Avoid at all costs. I don't know anyone who's been there who has anything decent to say about it. It's only a matter of time before they close their doors for the last time.

Under new management - and STILL horrible. Didn't think it could get worse, but it did. Previous owner
was rude and seemed a bit slow and dumb....but new owners are rude with an attitude too boot, like you
owe them something. You want a good, friendly bar and great place to watch sports - go to Carolina Ale House which is 2 minutes away....do yourself a favor, drive the extra 2 miles.

Okay use to love this place and was a very frequent customer ( weekly if not bi-weekly). The last time I was in there there were kids in the place. I heard they want the place to be more family friendly but be for real why buy a bar if you want a family friendly place- you should have bought a restuarant. Tthe new owners don't have any personality they act like they are doing you a favor. The last guy was quirkly but at least he knew your name. I like Oh Mulligans' much better- its smaller but at least the appreciate your business.

Pros: the bartenders are nice

Cons: they changed the wings which was the best menu item they had???

.

My girlfriend and I just went out to O'Dwyer's after learning that the old owner had recently sold the bar. I noticed a great improvement in service and we had a real fun time. Nice to have a local place to go again to get a beer and some good wings.

It's called (familiar to most) Tir Na Nog--218 S. Blount, downtown Raleigh. Because.....O'Dwyer's is one of the hugest disappointments since I've lived here (5 years). I went when they first opened and although the food was not much to write home about, especially considering they call themselves an "Irish Pub", but they were friendly, and the food came fairly quick. On THAT day, I would have given it maybe 2&1/2 stars. Fast forward to Feb. 2007, I brough my parents who have never been to NC, my Dad likes beer, Mom's part Irish, and it's close to my home. BOY was that a disaster!! Apparently you have to pay upfront for anyone to smile and be curtious, it took 5 minutes (this is 3pm) just to get our drink orders in, 10 minutes later we order food, 40 mintes later it comes, we took a couple bites and asked for doggy bags. It wasn't the worst, but my 8 fingered Uncle could've drummed up a better nosh!! The food was better when we reheated the next day adding some of our own finishing touches. The kicker----My father is obviously not a youing man, has trouble hearing, and needs glasses. When we were getting ready to leave, standing, he went to grab his beer (his third) to take the last drink, and a waitress (not ours) walked by and took it out of his hand and said "OK, I'll take that". My Dad said "I'm not done", she said, "Sorry, think 'ya are". My Dad being a proud and sweet gentleman didn't say a word, but he swiped his tip off the table and I didn't blame him one damn bit.
Sorry so long but I just had to vent about this horrible place. Please let us know when it changes hands!

I frequent O'Dwyers on a regular and up until around November of last year, I had to agree with all the reviews written, The male bartender was RUDE at best and the owner is a little grumpy. However, they must of finally wised up and fired all of their rude staff members and figured out how to train servers correctly. I have been told that they completely changed their management team and the new managers seem to really have their stuff together. The food is consistently good and the service is very friendly and efficient. If there ever is a problem, you can talk to any one of the three managers and they will always more than fix the problem. They still have live bands on Saturdays and DJ on Fridays, also they have hospitality nights on Sunday and Monday and ladies night on Tuesdays. They really have turned things around! I am so impressed with the new changes and will continue to spend all my money at O'Dwyers.

I would not recommend going to O'Dwyers Irish Sports Pub, lets look at that word "Irish" Is O'Dwyers an Irish sports pub? In my opinion NO a big HELL NO, this place doesn't even serve Shepherd's pie an a regular basis, when they do it's only on THURSDAY, that's if your lucky enough that the mexican chef showed up for work without a hangover and the slop they serve as Shepherd's pie at the very least would be considered a poor excuse for cottage pie.
I feel the owner of this wantabe "Irish Pub" has a lot to learn about running a restaurant and needs a swift kick in the bullocks by reality as I'm sure it is long over due, SOMEONE PLEASE CALL Gordon Ramsay because this place would surely make Kitchen Nightmares.
Staff are under trained and just plane rude and I can see why if you have ever met the owner you would reply "what do you expect", what a low grade bunch of misfits trying to pass of as an Irish Pub, just gives you a sick feeling deep down inside knowing that customers are getting the wool pulled over their eyes every time they step foot in the doors of O'Dwyers Irish Sports Pub.
My advice is to take the time and travel the distance to a real "Irish Pub" and try an authentic Irish dish, trust me it will be well worth the drive into Raleigh.

O'Dwyers Irish Sports Pub good luck to ya ratbastards as I don't see you guys being around much longer.

Cons: O'Dwyers Irish Sports Pub<- need I say more?

I go here at least weekly, more often twice a week. I usually love this place. The food is fantastic. Usually the service is a little slow but the food and attitude makes up for it. Tonight was the worst!! We waited 45 minutes for our food, had to go to the bar for drink refills 3 times and when the food finally arrived it was wrong and there was no dipping sauces or condiments for the burgers. We waited another 15 minutes before the waitress came and asked us if we wanted anything else and when we told her condiments for the burgers and sauces for our sides she rolled her eyes and walked off. She brought some condiments and sauces to the table but she tossed them onto the table and walked off. At this time I was ready to leave and just wanted my check. She finally returned and she was annoyed that we wanted to pay and leave. I finished my food at home and it tasted great. Maybe this would be good for take out from now on but I don't even feel comfortable walking through the front door after this experience. FYI I'm sad about that because I really loved this place. If the chef ever leaves he should advertise that he worked here because his food is fantastic and I would follow the food, NEVER THE SERVICE!!!

This sports bar is one of the last remaining great places to kick back, have a great time, do some dancing, listen to some awesome bands, eat good food, have service with a smile & a laugh or two, and best of all, light up a smoke! Highly recommend for having a good ole' time, ya just don't find that much anywhere, anymore!

I have been going to this place for months and it gets worse every time I am there. I am done with it.

If you are interested in a restaurant where you can go hungry, or a bar where you can go thirsty then this is your place. All the regular patrons talk about the lousy service, so its no secret. Everyone just rolls their eyes. You have to ask for everything twice here if you really want it.

They finally got rid of the mean nasty waitress only to replace her with incompetent wait staff. The last two visits I put in my food order and never got my food. No kidding, the girl waitress did not even put in my sandwich order last week and this week the guy did not put in my order either. They check the computer and its not even in there.

I have seen people sit with empty glasses for over an hour without even the offer for a refill from a waitress. I saw a the waitress talk to a guy with an empty glass in front of him for over a minute and walk away without offering to get him a drink!

The food is not particularly good, the evening staff is incompetent and the service is just plain lousy. Forget this place exists.

I loved the food but was miserable due to the poor ventilation system. There is no such thing as a non-smoking area in this
restaurant. They should get a better system so non-smokers don't have to suffer as they enjoy the food.

I will drive further for a REAL pub. This place will not be getting any business from my family and friends.

My kid was having an 'emergency' and need to use a bathroom. The staff refused to let my daughter use theirs - they were insolent, nasty and treated my wife like she was going to rob the place (if I had been there, I would have tried to get my kid to go on their floor, just for kicks). I understand not wanting the general public to use your restrooms but there is no reason to be rude and nasty about it. There aren't many stores in their little stripmall so I doubt they have a large problem with people trying to use their restrooms. Apparently, they feel it is more important to keep potential patrons out of their restrooms and GUARANTEE no future business than it is to show some good will to a neighbor. NOT a good business decision by a neighborhood pub. There are too many EXCELLENT Irish pubs in the area to waste your time with these rude idiots.

I eagerly await their demise (and, by the sound of the other reviews, it won't be long) so I can stand in the parking lot and applaud their departure. Hopefully, someone with some class will use this excellent location for a real neighborhood pub. Hey O'Dwyers, you asked for the karma that's coming your way, deal with it!

Pros: Location

Cons: Rude staff

.

You will find this establishment to be disappointing at best. They have all the good bones to work with, great space, lots of tv's and a good bar area. Unfortunately what lacks is what will keep the customers coming back. The food is TERRIBLE! We have tried several different items from their menu, hoping to pick a winner and fail each time. The kitchen is extremely slow, you will wait 30 minutes for your meal (they say its because the food is freshly prepared, but not buying that by the taste and preparation. Bland, boring food. They need to revamp their menu and kitchen staff big time. You will notice that the only customers they bring in are the ones around the bar drinking, no one orders any food with good reason. Could do well and stay in the area if they do a major revamping of their menu and kitchen!!

O'Dwyers is a contradiction. It has a good location, in fact a fantastic location, in the Heritage area of Wake Forest where there are no other casual sports bars. It has a good layout, a nice size, lots of TVs including a giant screen, nice big bar area, pretty much anything you would need in an easy neighborhood type bar. But the ownership/management was never solid and it showed. Lousy service, mediocre food, a rude owner who couldn't care less if you complained, and an arrogant little bartender who made you feel like you weren't even there. Thank god he's gone now. I mean the place has appeal especially when they bring in bands and karaoke and the atmosphere turns much more festive. It has recently changed owners and they have made some changes, not sure yet if they are all improvements, but changes. There are new tvs and some new decor. The service is now exclusively hot young women in tight little shorts and referee jerseys which, while I'm not really complaining, does kind of tart the place down a bit and removes the casual, approachable dynamic of the old staff. There is now a side door where there was none, and a seperate wet bar which I've never seen used except as a place to put your beer. One change that hasn't inspired me to frequent the place is the price increases. A domestic pint is now $2.50 where it used to be a dollar cheaper a year ago. The menu has changed but the food is still the same so-so bar fare. This place really really needs to revamp their kitchen and the quality of food it puts out. Service is also reliably slow; it's not uncommon to wait a half hour or more for a basket of wings. So in some ways it's got a new life but in others it's still the same old O'Dwyers. Not sure how invested the new owner is in increasing sales and improving service as I usually see him parked at his own bar with a pint. But as long as they have the game on and a good band on the weekends I'll go back, but spend less.
