When I went to Oliver Twist two weeks ago, I was very disappointed with my evening. The food took too long to get to our table. My wife's dinner even came out later than mine. I asked to speak with the chef and was told that we don't really have a "chef" anymore just some cooks. I don't even know what that was supposed to mean, but contrary to that they still had the old chef's name on the menu. My drink tasted watered down and was also overpriced. I wouldn't suggest this place to my worst enemies. Used to be a good place, now it's not for whatever reason. Next time I'm just going to Marguax's which is right next door.

My husband and I started frequenting Oliver Twist for our date nights before we were even married. as its one of our favorite spots to dine. It didn??t matter if we were celebrating or having a relaxing night out. We have been to the variety shows enjoying the live music, watched the exotic belly dancers and even attended some of their events. Oliver Twist is so versatile! The tapas are excellent and the Martinis delicious! The staff is always pleasant and the service is great! Perfect place for an intimate night out or for a gathering with friends! We loved Oliver Twist so much we even had our wedding reception there. There wasn??t much need for decorating as Oliver Twist has the perfect decor and atmosphere. It??s naturally setup for an intimate dining experience with lounge seating which invites people to sit down and have a conversation over a glass of wine. The Staff was amazing. I didn??t have to worry about anything. We met with Steve, Alex and the Chef to explore the list of possibilities for the reception seating, set-up, and dining experience. Everyone was very accommodating. They stayed in touch with us and responded to all our questions. So when the big day came there were no last minute stressors. The food was excellent, the staff was as always accommodating, and it was our perfect day. People still compliment us on how much they enjoyed the reception at Oliver Twist! We still go for our date nights and bring new people to enjoy this special place!

Food was overpriced, and sort of thrown together. The "twisted chicken" was just leftover spinach-artichoke dip, spread on a peice of chicken, with puff pastry. Server/host (?)--same person, didn't care about us, since the tip was automatic--20%, which is too much for an auto tip. Won't return.

I had an excellent dinner and evening here!!!
I went with a friend and we both ordered 4 Tapas and a bottle of wine. We were comfortably full afterwards, not stuffed, but again, TAPAS is suppossed to be light dining!
Gorgeous decor, comfortable to sit and drink wine and chat...
This place deserves five stars. I recommend to go back every chance you get. This place has great food, atmosphere and service.

I recently went with a large group of people and found the atmosphere to be very inviting. I do agree with previous reviewers in that the place seemed understaffed, we had 1-2 waitresses for at least 50 people. the food was OK, i have had much better tapas for much cheaper prices, so I would consider it average, but nothing to write home about. I did have an incident choking on the jerked chicken and the waitress and the manager seemed aloof to the fact that I was actually choking and could have cared less...thank god for friends!. The belly dancer was a snooze! I was looking forward to REAL bellydancing, but alittle disappointed (because I was having fun with friends, it didn't really matter at that point). The DJ...was OK, one member of our group had to go and "encourage" him to play music people could actually move to!. I do believe other reviews which paint the manager as a A**! he actually laughed when I choked because to him it was "just jerked chicken" although he removed it from my tab.

All in all, I will return, but I WILL not go hungry, I will go for atmosphere and maybe a coke..LOL. this place is surely overpriced. But is was one of the better times I have had (minus the incident) since I have moved here

Good martinis, laid back atmosphere. It's a good place to go for drinks, but I wasn't impressed with the food. It's overpriced and tiny portions (tapas, I know, but small even for tapas).

This is probably the most sophisticated restaurant in North Raleigh. The staff is courteous, charming and attentive, the food is great, and the atmosphere very inviting. Loved it!

Cons: Could not get enough of those martinis!

If you go to Oliver Twist and expect great food you won't be disappointed. Each of the selections we tried were super yummy and really not small portions. They frequently run half price specials on tapas and martinis. They have a huge selection of unique martinis. They have a nice room in back for large parties. However, if I had not been in a back room with the doors closed ,I would have been disappointed. The restaurant gets rather smokey. If you are a non smoker beware. If you can get around that aspect, you are in for a treat.

The tapas and martinis are great and very reasonably priced. Great for a night out with friends or for a low key date. I wouldn't recommend taking children there. It is considered a lounge.

I attended a night out w. a group of 15 people at the Oliver Twist Lounge and their food and drink menus were a great variety. The tapas are delicious, and I saw many friends enjoy their martinis (and the affordable specials!) They have a room in the back for large parties and that was the best part of the night out. We were able to be in a smoke-free setting back there and talk to one another over the entertainment out front [which sounded nice, but wasn't what we were there for!] I recommend it for a night out w. friends or a date night w. a loved one.

Two years ago, this was the place to be. The food, drinks and music were wonderful. Everybody who was anybody was there. They even won awards for having a great bar and the best DJ. Now, it's totally different. Everything has changed and not for the better. My suggestion to you, DO NOT waste your time. You will be dissapointed!

The friday after Christmas was my first time going there. i met up with some co-workerd who hadn't been except for one. This place has a excellent ambiance and clientele. I really enjoyed myself, and i will definetly be returning in the future. The only problem that i had with the place was the DJ. He was absolutely horrible!!! That is the only reason this place didnt get 5 Stars. Even though it is a lounge, to have a DJ means that he should be able to play suitable music fand keep the patrons on their feet and wanting more. One song would get the people up, then the follow up song would sit them right back down... The drinks were great!!! Co-workers and i made the best of the poor music however... I'll definetly go back if that DJ isnt there!!!

Our company held its Christmas party for 22 at Oliver Twist. Though prices were about 15% higher than other venues we explored, we thought the atmosphere seemed conducive to an enjoyable party. What an utterly disappointing experience. The management could not have been more appallingly Unprofessional nor the food more lacking:

When we arrived at 6:55 for our party at 7:00, nothing whatsoever had been set up. It was after 7:15 before the first glass of wine was served.

Only 1 waitress was assigned for 22 guests, and though she did an admirable job under the circumstances, service was miserably slow. (An 18% gratuity was added to our bill.)

The food was pathetic. Our food charges totaled $33.42 per person -- nearly TWICE their average entree price. No one had more than one small cocktail plate of the less-than-mediocre food, tasting straight out of the freezer bag to the fryer. Their definition of a $4 serving of shrimp is lacking, to say the least. Everyone left hungry.

Dishes remained empty and uncleared on the serving table for at least an hour.

At 8:45 (well before our 10:00 contracted time), the hostess rudely tried to remove seven of our guests from a table that had been committed, in writing, to our party. They had acccepted a reservation at 9:00 for one of our tables! When I complained about it, I was left cooling my heels up front 10 minutes waiting for management to respond (which he never had the courtesy to do).

The management was extremely evasive in their negotiations for this party, trying to cram us into a wholly inadequate space, and making numerous comments about ?lost revenue? (seems like our party, with food and another $30/person in drinks, was pretty good revenue), which was why we were careful to be very clear on our part and also to get everything in writing. All alas, to no end. Be forewarned about scheduling any functions here ? you'll feel more welcome and fed and have a better time almost anywhere else!!

OK, I love this place, am in the service industry, have read all of the reviews and have some feedback. Firstly, it cracks me up that some people claim the place is too quiet and empty, while others claim it's too loud and crowded. This is a lounge, people, which means that it's expected to have a slower dinner crowd and a busy late-night rush. Atmosphere is all about whether you come at traditional dinner time, cocktail hour or party hour. Coming in at 7:30 to dine at a tapas lounge and finding it virtually empty is not a bad sign; it's typical for a lounge open until 2 am. Most diners don't want to be in a packed place during dinner time anyway, as it does tend to become noisy and less intimate. Secondly, I have had great service experiences here and it is definitely intended to be slower-paced as it again is a LOUNGE where people stay for hours. My recommendation is that if you are in a hurry or want a faster pace, mention something to your server at the beginning of your visit and I am confident she will accommodate you. I also know that the chef cooks everything with just himself and his small kitchen staff, so if some of the tapas take a few extra minutes to get his seal of approval, it's worth it. As for food quality and taste, I know they've revised their menu a few times since opening to eliminate the weaker dishes, which is typical of 99% of dining establishments in their first couple of years. Unfortunately sometimes you have to learn what doesn't work in order to perfect what does. I go there a lot and have had everything on their current menu at least once; I like it all. This is the only place I can say that about which is why I keep coming back. If you are particular, ask specific questions about menu items so you get something that suits your tastes. The martinis are great and they always have at least one on special. There is live music during the week and a DJ/belly dancer on the weekends. Like I said, I love this place.

Cons: May not be suited for someone seeking a traditional restaurant experience.

By accident my family and I chose to dine at Oliver Twist - only because it was close to my sister's and seemed interesting. We were very satisfied with the tapas-all very delicious, made with high quality ingredients and prepared expertly. We'll definitely go back but we won't order the two teensy tiny lambchops that were on the menu for $11; just not worth it and not the best tapa that we ejoyed among the others that night. The seafood crepes were so delicate yet filling and the fish tacos were fresh and crunchy with sweet and tangy salsa. We may have been lucky, from how the bad reviews read, because we didn't run into the owner (Steven I believe rebecca said his name was back in Mar.) and the service was ok. My experience was a good one but anyone deciding whether to come here or not should read all of the reviews and be prepared. Myself- I'll keep coming until I have a bad experience since my family liked it and want to go back.

I don?t normally post on these things, but I was perusing restaurants in the area and had to say something when I came across Oliver Twist. My business was hosting some out-of-town clients so we were looking for a local unique place to eat. Oliver Twist ended up being the perfect place. The tapas dishes were delightful, and really helped loosen everyone up as we reached over each other to share dishes. We chose several different dishes and they all tasted great ? the beef satay and crab dip were my favorites!! I was especially pleased by their many wines because although everyone at the table had different tastes we were all able to choose a glass that we liked. Amazing service. We had a great time and I will surely keep them in mind for the future.

The waitress said it best, this place is the Dimond in the Rough. I would have never imagined such a cool atmosphere in Raleigh of all places. I mean eclectic but warm and cozy and sort of European. Who knew that if you go out on week days you get some slamming deals. All their martinis were 5 dollars and awsome. The waitress we had recommended the Absolutely Impaired (how an you forget a name like that) and gosh I think it was the Louis Vitton. They were delectible, I think I am addicted. We also had some of this chocolate flourless cake with rasberry sauce....yummmmm. To die for. My girlfriends and I are planning to make this our girls night out hangout. I go out often but the stafff, the food and those drinks make this place my new favorite. I had to share my great experince with the rest of the Raleigh foodies out there.

I had dinner at the bar and two rum & Cokes. The filet was great but the first drink the girl made was more like water and coke. The second one made by some guy behind the bar other than my server was excellent. I had a decent time although the place was almost empty. I'd hate to go on a busy night after reading some of these posts. One server should be able to jam out 4-5 tables at a time if they are worth thier salt. Maybe I got lucky but it was good.

I have been going to Oliver Twist since they opened, which was about 3 years ago. I came to know the owner and the staff pretty well. I always loved my experience there because the location, food, staff and music. There are not many places you could say had it all but this place did! After dinner, you could listen to the great DJ they had while enjoying some good drinks and belly dancer.

I had not been in several months until a couple Fridays ago and I am highly dissapointed. The menu had changed and was very over priced for the quality of food. Then we decided to stick around for a drink and to listen to some good music. Our bartender was rude and she acted like we were bothering her when we asked for a drink after waiting a long time. Then the music started, and that's when we had to leave. The music was horriable and attracted a crowd that was not expected in a place like Oliver Twist.

If you ask me, they should make everthing the way it was. Same staff, food, music and service. If it was like that, they would not have these negative reviews. Until some major changes happen, I will not be returning to Oliver Twist.

I had heard good things about this place and love the idea of tapas but DO NOT go here. We made reservations for 7:30 on a Friday night. We walked in, the place was empty, first bad sign I think! We were seated and greeted promptly. Our drinks didn't take too long but after that it went downhill. We ordered our food, 2 tapas and 2 salads, then never saw our waitress for the rest of the night. The food was awful, I could definitely make better bruschetta and caesar salad and I burn water! My date had to go up to the bar to get his water glass refilled and to get our bill. The couple at the table next to us had to same problem with service. There were only 4 occupied tables in the whole place!! The server finally stopped by as we were leaving and apologized for being understaffed. The manager took an appetizer off our bill, which was nice but we won't be going there again. I did love the atmosphere and could see what they were trying to go for but the execution was awful. Try Red Room in Downtown Raleigh for better tapas.

Pros: Ambience, parking

Cons: service, food was terrible.

How many bad reviews does a restaurant have to receive before a citysearch visitor can view at a glance that it is not a recommended restaurant? This restaurant is earning quite a reputation for actually ripping off its customers, and it should have a lower number of stars than 4 1/2 stars. This is a disgrace on citysearch. The powers that be on this website should be more responsible about the rating system. 17 good reviews to 11 highly negative reviews does not equal such a high rating if you ask me.

Cons: They steal from their guests

.

I had a similar experience as the last reviewer. I was charged almost double what the menu price was and when we said something to the manager (or whoever he was) he simply said it was a typo and we needed to pay the the higher price.

Needless to say, we did pay it, but we wont be going back. It is pretty sad when a restaurant has to stoop so low as to try and steal from their customers. The food wasnt that good anyway.

Pros: Not sure

Cons: Bad smell, management will over charge you, food is average at best.

DON'T EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!! I had the WORST experience at this establishment that I've ever had in a restaurant. After a girls nite out at the bar I was presented with a bill that charged me double for a bottle of wine that I had ordered. When I showed the OWNER - STEVEN the price that was stated in the menu he told me that there was a misprint and that I was going to have to pay the price higher price that was on my bill. When I refused to pay anything other than the price in the menu he called the cops. The entire time he was getting in my face and calling me petty and that it was the principle of the thing (what???)!!!! After the cop arrived and made him charge me the price in the menu he made disparaging remarks to me and my friends when we paid with two cards, because we "couldn't afford to pay the bill on one card". And to top everything off, I was issued a trespassing order, because he doesn't want me to ever come back to his establishment again. Do you think I'd go back to a place that called the cops to settle a dispute over a bill? This man has no business/customer service sense. And this was all over $40!!!!!!

We went to the Mardi Gras event on 2/1 that was advertised as the wildest party in the Triangle. It was absolutely boring. There were not a ton of people. The dj made little attempt to get people on the dance floor. And the only thing that made it Mardi Gras was the beads and the $5 cover charge. A real dissapointment.

A real mixed bag! Great ambience. Specialty drinks seem to lack alcohol. Fried ravioli and lamp chops are both extraordinary, as are the desserts (and I tried 3). Clams casino and "foie gras" are both less than ordinary.

I went to Oliver Twist to celebrate my friend's birthday. I was pleasantly surprised!
I loved the atmosphere & the cool vibe. I was impressed with the decor. It is a great place to relax and unwind to the tune of wine and fantastic food.
The food was very well executed. The lamb chops made me melt. The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive.
This is a great place to sit and savor food and good conversation with friends.
I would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a romantic dinner for two.

I've tried Oliver Twist twice and can definitely say that I won't be going back. The food was no better than below-average appetizers from chain restaurants, and the martinis were not memorable. It's a shame, because the atmosphere is very laid-back and comfortable. Were they to revamp the menu I could definitely see this place packed every night! For good tapas, stick to downtown - you won't find them here.

My husband I and I went for our anniversary, which happened to be on a Sunday last year. The woman on the phone took our reservation and neglected to tell us that they had recently started closing on Sundays. Oops. When we called to complain the next day, the manager apologized profusely and sent us a generous gift certificate. We tried again for our next anniversary and we are so glad we did! We ordered several plates to share and even had dessert. Everything was wonderful. I guess we came a little early (I'm assuming it's more of a lounge/club than a restaurant) because at 9 pm the place was just starting to fill up. The flat-screen t.v.s over the bar detracted from the otherwise lush and warm atmosphere. Great service, great food. The prices add up quick, but that is pretty typical of tapas-style dining (in America, at least.)

We love this place! My husband and I found this place shortly after moving to Raleigh. By now, we have had everything on the menu and it is all excellent! The restaurant has such a nice atmosphere and great friendly service. Overall, just a nice, chill place to get some great food and good wine. The lighting and cool paintings also make the ambiance really laidback and nice.
Highly recommend this place for a date night & group parties!

Definitely DONT go for the food! The food was absolutely horrible. Don't waste your time or money. We ordered stuffed mushroom what a mistake.. For $10 each, this food was awful. this place has been the absolute worst. We had a better meal at Wendys for lunch that day. The ambiance was pretty nice but not enough for us to go back. If you are going out to eat, make sure you are doing it right. This just isnt the place.

Since the restaurant was highly recommended by a friend, I took my husband here for his birthday. When we walked in the door at 6pm, there were 5 people in the restaurant/bar...should have been our first clue. A less than friendly server took our order for two entrees. After an extremely long time, she brought us the entrees without mash potatoes and said they had served the last batch. It would take another hour to prepare the next batch. She offered to replace them with spinach (hmmm...no thanks). Then she said the cook could make us Dutch potatoes. We started eating our meal since it was warm, and halfway through the potatoes still had not arrived. I asked her when we would receive them and received a snotty "they take time to cook."

Needless to say, we were pretty disappointed when after we had finished our meal four french fries each arrived. For $20 a plate, I was hoping for a little more than a Happy Meal. We did speak with the Manager and he was very understanding and sufficiently compensated. However, I wanted to tell everyone walking in to turn around and leave.

Wow...This really is a great spot!

We celebrated my fiance's birthday on Friday night. My last-minute reservation was politely accepted over the phone. We had an intimate birthday dinner with dim lighting in VIP area. I loved the combination of vibrant & festive decor with the laidback yet lively ambience - it was a perfect setting to one of the most pleasant evenings I have had in a while. We had an amazing time.
The food was delicious - Seafood Martini, Caribbean JerkChicken and Empanada are very yummy (portions are a bit small but this is good because you will be stuffed by the end of dinner) and we tried Proscuitto Wrapped Filet Mignon & Cajun Ribeye for our main entree. The steak was absolutely delicious! It was a little spicy but I liked the kick in the taste.

This is a great place for dates ~ it's very romantic. Also a great place to meet up with friends and just have a great night together! I look forward to going back! :)

Who ever wrote a bad review about this restaurant must be 80 years old and blind. This restaurant was fantastic all three times that me and my friends attended. The food was great and the service was even better. Our waitress Jenn was terrific!!! She new the menu front to back and had some great recommendations. I definitely think you should try the swordfish, it was cooked to perfection.
Unfortunately the bar was a little to busy for me to sit down but luckily the server was fast to bring my martini out. And the icing on the cake; the belly dancer was very hot...Whoa!

The food was absolutely horrible. Don't waste your time or money. We have had tapas before however cold shriveled up food is not tapas. We ordered stuffed mushroom which looked like a high school freeze-drying science experiment, cold 'bacon' wrapped scallops which we could swear were purchased from the food-store nearby, and something like a lambchop with 2 slices of potatos. For $10 each, this food was awful. Considering we've had tapas all over the globe from Argentina, to London, to Spain & Portugal - even Miami...this place has been the absolute worst. Considering the sausage-stuffed cold mushrooms were sitting in a cup of 3/$100 beef gravy...I definately could've had a better meal if my 10yr old toasted cheese and served it. What was really disturbing (other than the waitress, etc) was the fact that the food was served at room temperature (about 74 degrees Farenheit). Anyway, save your money and walk to Margeaux's...or keep walking all the way to Miami if you want to enjoy good food!

Pros: Definately a step up in ambience from the local Applebees and Texas steakhouses.

Cons: The food is absolutely awful and the seafood was dangerously room temperature.

We stop in here for a martini and tapas at the bar once every couple of months. It's a great, professional bar area and bar service. Too bad Daniel (our favorite bartender) has moved on. Alas, the others are good also. Usually no wait to stop in at the bar and share a drink and conversation with your date. The tapas is good also. It may get a little loud later in the evening for some, but we like it.

For the prices, you expect good food, regardless of the ambiance. The food was very dissappointing. They definitely 'overplay' their tapas. The martinis were good, the ambiance was nice, the waitress was nice. The DJ wasn't really a DJ. He simply let records play and then changed them periodically, but they were good records. We missed the belly dancer. Overall, I think it's a nice spot to grab a drink, just eat somewhere else before you go.

Sophisticated, fantastic, trendy and sexy....The place you'll talk & think about.
Oliver Twist is certainly not your typical restaurant - it's the lavishly decorated lounge with a Middle Eastern vibe!!!
Great atmosphere, excellent service. Once you are there
you will definitely feel comfortable & will enjoy great food and cocktails spiced up with live belly dancer and live DJ. We absolutely loved the music (don't forget to wear comfortable shoes, because you won't be able to stay away from the packed dance floor)

I wish I had a better experience at Oliver Twist. Food and drinks took forever and were just ok. Service was so bad I saw my dessert sitting on top of a plastic box in the kitchen and almost got up to get it. Dinner was at 8 and at 9 pm, they dimmed the lights and started playing this HORRIBLE LOUD music. You couldn't talk to your date at all. I was in the smoke free section and the only thing smoke free was my table. Maybe wk nights are a better night but date night is a NO NO at Oliver Twist. Management need to not worry so much about the staffs dress code and focus more on their ability to host and serve!

Where do I start? My husband and I just got home from Oliver Twist and we had an amazing time! The food was great! Piping hot crab dip, baby empanadas, and an incredible seafood martini almost tobbling over the glass! Our waitress Silvea, was non stop didn't miss a beat! In fact she suggested a martini for dessert instead of their home made mousse! And she was right, delicious! I truly had a fabulous time if it weren't for my husband's two left feet we would've stayed and danced to the band. Sorry guys! If you've never been to Oliver Twist I suggest going sooner than later!

This is the only restaurant in 36 years that I have ever gotten up to leave before the drink order was brought to the table. We actually wondered if poor service was intented as part of the ambiance. I was warned the service was bad, but I had no idea it could be so bad. Seriously, don't ruin your evening trying Oliver Twist until major changes take place. Small plates = 4 tiny pieces for $8-$12. Understaffed by at least 2 waitstaff. You will wait forever to be seated, for your appetizer, for your drinks, and (I would assume) for your meal. I like the location and the atmosphere, however execution on the concept needs significant improvement. I have to rate this zero stars - a must pass.

I am not sure what to say? We had a great time at olivers. Went with a few friends, had dinner, the food was pretty good. I think the idea of tapas was the best part. Night went on and boom! A belly dancer was dancing! It was one awesome show. If you havent seen it yet i definitely recommend it. After the Belly dancer, the best DJ i have ever heard spun for us all night long! He kept the dance floor packed. Overall a wonderful experience AND close to home. We will definitley be going again very soon.

Oliver Twist is a fantastic place to get an awesome dirty martini. It took quite a while for our drinks, considering we were the ONLY people in the place.
The food took forever and was absolutly tasteless. I got a spinach salad that had absolutly so flavor! Nothing worth remembering. One of my friends got the Salmon which was supposed to come with apsaragus. I have no problem with small potions but when asparagus are shrunk to toothpick size, give me a break!! One of us got the chicken with plaintains, I think that was what it was but you really couldn't tell what the meat was considering how long it had been cooked. The only thing thast was good that we got was the seafood cocktail martini. FOOD WAS HORRIBLE!!!! Everything was very overcooked!!! Service was poor, but they do make a damn good martini.

Last friday a couple of my girlfriends took me down to Oliver Twist's to start our evening off, and we didn't leave. The martinis were fabulous. Rick the bartender, took amazing care of us, and he had us laughing all night. We had this amazing fried Ravioli tapas among others, and were supprised that to find out how long we stayed (it was after one in the morning). It did get a little crowded late night but being seated at the bar we hardly noticed. I can't wait to go back to Oliver Twist's!

This place is totally cool, and we "stumbled" on it last night. Our favorite restaurant in Raleigh has always been Margaux's, and Oliver Twists is in the same shopping center. What a mecca for dining! Now Margaux's will have competition for our business. The ambience here is stunning -with dining on couches and alcoves painted with murals. It's like socializing at a rich person's house while you eat. The food is "tapas" meaning small portions of various things. Its a great concept. This is the most beautifully decorated restaurant around, and the food and drinks are absolutely great. Great service too. I hope they make it big here. We'll be doing our part.

This is the most beautifully decorated restaurant around, and the food and drinks are absolutely great. Great service too. I hope they make it big here. We'll be doing our part.

Pros: Elegant but releaxing, Grilled salmon, tapas

Cons: No cons to mention

.

This is a great place for a first date.. the ambience is trendy with multiple seating options.. Its not too loud for conversation and the drink selection is amazing. Great balance of wines.. the tapas we had were very good.. although could have been better with the proper wine pairing.. Will definitely go again soon.
