My first experience with Jamaican food came when I vacationed on the island. Since then, I have been disappointed with some restaurants attempts at traditional Jamaican dishes & had given up hope of finding good food here. All I wanted was a good chicken patty & some fried plantains... is this too much to ask for? ;-) Luckily my boyfriend had a craving this past week & was told about this restaurant. I had very low expectations. However, we both were blown away by Cool Runnings! For a shopping center/ strip mall type restaurant it is very pleasing to the eye & also very clean. And the food was absolutely delicious! I can't wait to eat here again!!

Pros: Good food, nice decor, clean, food made to order

Cons: none really

I just got back from Cool Runnings for lunch. Fabulous! A stock clerk at Target told me about this place yesterday while I was looking for frozen beef patties. I had tried another Jamaican place on 54 and was very disappointed. I'm so glad I visited Cool Runnings. I am almost 9 months pregnant and was craving Beef patties - they are marvelous here. The crust is excellent - not too thick or thin. The filling is mouthwatering and perfectly seasoned. I had the lunch portion Jerked chicken entree with peas and rice and plantains. I like my rice more "soupy" and they make it more "dry" here. But the flavor was perfect. The spicy chicken and the sweeter rice paired wonderfully. They serve the food with a dipping sauce - very nice. The plantains are the best I've ever had. It's a strip mall joint so I was not expecting such a clean and tasteful interior. The hostess and the cashier were both very friendly and respectful. I decided to try the bread pudding and I was not disappointed. I over ate of course. LOL My 3 1/2 year old loved the peas and rice and chicken. She helped me with the bread pudding. I can't wait to come up with an excuse to have these people cater an event. I don't think you will leave disappointed. If you only have 30 min. for lunch, you may find yourself with not enough time to eat - everything is cooked to order so it takes a little bit of time unless you are just getting patties to go.

Pros: Tasty food, great presentation, clean

Cons: none unless you are in a real hurry

Pros: the food

Cons: that I don't live closer

I have visited this place several times and as always the food is excellent.
The menu is limited on the items offered but is all good. I have tried the fried fish and it was excellent, perfectly seasoned and beautiful presented.
I have also tried the jerked chicken, the patties and the escavich and loved it all. Must try the bread pudding wow.
The only problem is the wait time to get the food, however I do not mind waiting for food prepared to order however it can be a problem for families with small children.
The last time I was there they only had 2 waitresses who also took all the take out orders, brought your food to your table and cleaned dirty tables which can turn any customer off immediately. Hopefully they will get more staff as they seem to get extremely busy especially on Friday evenings.

Pros: Excellent food and not expensive

Cons: Not enough staff, long wait, lacks customer interaction

The food is always cooked to order. The fish is excellent. The various rice and potato dishes are good. Thh stir fried vegetables and fried plantain are very tasty.

The bread pudding is wonderful. It is homemade and qualifies as comfort food. I have taken many friends there and everyone agrees that it is the best they have ever tasted.

The owners are super friendly and are willing to prepare your dishes any way you want them. It is also kid friendly!

Since we discovered this place a little over a month ago, we've become regulars. It's so good that we eat here 1-2 times per week. No joke. We looove the patties, esp. with cocoa bread and jer_ sauce. We also love the je_k pork, j_rk chicken, and the rice and peas. The bread pudding is also pretty yummy. If you haven't been here yet, GO NOW! You'll want to go again soon too. Trust me. Oh, service - generally good but occasionally spotty (usually in an amusing way, so I wouldn't worry about it).

There is only place to compare the food in this resturant to and you have to hop on a plane or a boat to get there. I felt like I was back in Jamaica when the food arrived. Excellent service only helped to compliment the pleasent surroundings. If you are not familiar with Jamaican cuisine then this is the place to give it a try. I have spent over 10 years in the resturant business and have never been in a cleaner place. There is something on the menu for everyone. The oxtails were amazing and if you have never had curry goat, try it! Delicous! Eating here brought back memories of my summers on the islands with my cousins and the smells coming from my Aunts kitchen. Imagine my surprise when I find a very, very good Jamaican resturant in Cary, NC when I can't find a decent one in the heart of Florida. Good for you NC!

Pros: Great Food, Clean Atmosphere, Pleasent Staff, GREAT FOOD!

Cons: Not a place for a 30 minute lunch

.

Good food and nice wait staff. Can't remember the name of the fish that I had, but it was very good. Plaintains were good also. A little something different for Cary, but it sure beats the wings place next door.

Pros: Good food, easy going vibe

Cons: Not a large dining room

It's one of the few Jamaican restaurants that makes good chicken curry roti in the Triangle! Some care was taken to present the food nicely on the plate. The jerked chicken was flavorful with home-made marinade, not Walkerswood, plantains weren't oily, and the rice and peas were tender. I thought the chicken and beef patties were made on-site since the dough was thickly rolled and they were mild spicewise, but I was impressed that the place didn't take shortcuts with their food. The decor is bright and cheerful, it's extremely casual, the waitress was pleasant, and you can have a sit-down meal or takeout.

It's inside Harrison Pointe shopping center, on the same strip past the Harris Teeter and Staples and is simply labeled "Jamaican restaurant."

I was pleasntly surprised after the so so review in the newspaper. We had the wings as appetizers, very sweet but they grew on me. For the entree I had the jrk pork which was excellent. Flavored just right and still tender. The plantains were excellent as well, moist and not dried out. The jasmine rice said it had coconut in it but I could barely taste it. The food was kind of slow to arrive but the overall service was fine with prompt drink refills.

They make the most *perfect* plantains!!

I like to try different things, my boyfriend is a bit pickier of an eater, but we both love this place. It's authentic enough that I often see Jamaican transplants in there but it's very easy for someone unfamiliar with the cuisine to order without trouble. It's a nice small place to go for a full meal... something other than Chinese takeout or enchiladas.

Cons: Don't try the curried goat unless you're pretty brave
