am new to the area and looking to put my 5 year old in a gymnastics or dance class. I do NOT think this is the gym for us...first when I called to inquire regarding class times and how to get involved I was told to look on the website.

We have two children at Champion Gymnastics- our 7 year old daughter is in the Stars Program and our 4 year old son is in the Preschool program. We have been beyond happy with our experience at Champions. The coaching staff is top notch! I have seen amazing progress over the past few years in my daughter's skills, self discipline and her ever growing love of gymnastics. She both loves and respects her coach and looks up to the "big girls" at the gym, who often take the time to give a friendly smile or offer kind words of encouragement to the younger girls. My son is having a great time in the preschool program and Im amazed at the physical strength that hes building as well as the ability to listen, follow instructions and develop his athletic and motor skills. I couldnt ask for a better program for my children- both competitive and recreational.

Great team programs. For parents of new gymnasts, all gyms have a high coaching turnover from time to time, jfyi. This is a coaching fact of life.

The bottomline is are they good coaches? At Champions I find this to be true. They are all trained and professional. Any complaints, concerns or suggestions are addressed by the owners or director.

We have had such a good experience at Champion Gymnastics. Our youngest son (now he's 8) started in the preschool program 4 years ago. He has steadily progressed through the ranks and is now on the level 5 boys team. Our coaches have always been very professional in fact last year our level 4 coach was selected the best level 4 coach in Texas! He incorporates lots of fun along with tons of hard work. Champion's boys competitive program is the only one offered in the Katy area and we feel so fortunate to be there!
The kids on the team are all serious about their dedication and put forth a great effort to be successful, there have been very few behavior issues and I appreciate the coaches not tolerating bad behavior. A distractive student or careless rough-housing in the gym can lead to a very serious injury to another gymnast. I applaude their efforts to keep my gymnast safe and if that means asking a child to leave, then (in my opinion) there was probably a safety risk in keeping them enrolled there.
Our oldest son has also taken a few recreational classes there from time to time (he is more of a football/baseball kid) and enjoyed them, especially the tumbling and trampoline classes.
I can honestly say if you have a child in Katy that is serious about gymnastics, Champions is THE place to be. If your child has the drive to compete in gymnastics, get them into Champions if you can.
Honestly I can't say too much about the current toddler/preschool programs as it's been a while since mine were that young, but for ages 5 and up I know it's a GREAT gym!

A Very Happy Champion's Parent!

I only have experience with the preschool age and under programs at Champions. Overall, we weren't very impressed. The instructors were unprofessional and really inconsistent. I would say they devoted about 50% of their attention to teaching the class and the other 50% to talking to instructors of other classes. Personality wise, some days the teacher would let the kids get away with ANYTHING and would be borderline hyperactive herself, other days she was really short and would snap at the kids for behavior she encouraged the week before. I was shocked that my child's instructor actually left numerous times during the middle of class (with some other personnel from the gym) and the class was combined with the toddler class for the remainder of the time. Some days, there would only be one instructor for the two classes. Speaking of time, the class ALWAYS started late, ALWAYS ended early. The gymnastics instruction was decent and my daughter did progress skill-wise, I just felt the teacher wasn't modeling very good behavior or discipline to my child and we got sick of it carrying over into home, school, etc. Staff turnover was very high.

As far as gymnastics goes, I think if you're looking for a fun, recreational activity for your preschool aged child, there are better places in Katy. For school aged kids, Champions seemed to do a good job.

I would not recommend this gym. Very high turnover, in the lower levels. The competitive team environment is abusive. Owners deal with complaints by telling the customer they can leave.
