While walking outside to get into my car I saw an elderly lady that had fell down the steps. There were 2 security guards outside that were ATTEMPTING to assist. They asked me if I worked there, I replied no. As I was getting into my car one of the guards called me a b*tch.
I would never ever go back there, nor would I trust their incompetent security staff to help me or anyone I know.
Instead of standing there looking at the lady, they should have been calling for help or helping her themselves.

A while back, I went to Rex hospital emergency room due to possible signs of a stroke and also had an illness. I had to wait several hours to be seen, all night actually. And the nurse who was Jamaican or similar was the most unfriendly health care "professional"? I have ever encountered in my whole entire life. There mantra there is "What can I do for you?" How would I know? I am the patient, see what's wrong first. Having a stroke? I dunno. The linens did not appear to be clean either, there are no walls to separate your room? space? from neighboring patients. The lady in the space over was saying some impolite things about my unknown condition. No water or drinks were given even though dehydrated, no oxygen, no clear diagnosis. Directed down the wrong hallway for specimen? by the un-nurse. Would I ever go back there?, no! Not in a million years. Not even if I was dying right in front of the hospital.

I had a horrible experience at Rex birthing center. Rex advertises that it provides a comforting environment in which to deliver your child. In my experience, nothing could be further from the truth. I cannot recommend Rex birthing center. My advice - go elsewhere.

I just got back from the "Rex Outreach Laboratory" where I got very very poor service and, on top of that, they were unfriendly and uncaring. Then I noticed their "customer service satisfaction" box in the waiting room: there were NO forms to fill out and they hadn't bothered to read any of the forms dating back 6 months!! Actions speak louder than words, and by their actions it shows they have no commitment to their words.

I recently had Gallbladder surgery at Rex Hospital. The first thing I noticed was how filthy dirty the chairs in the registration waiting area. When I registered they told me my estimate after insurance was just over $1000 which I paid at that time. A couple weeks after surgery I received their bill with over $2000 due. When I called to question the 100% increase they said well it is just an estimate. There we things billed that you have no idea what it is just generic terms like drug, supplies and there were several of these....BEWARE

I had my baby here and loved it! My nurses were great! My epidural was not working perfectly at first but they went out of their way to fix it. All the doctors and staff were great! Can't wait to have my next one there! My nurses listened to me and what I would like to happen, but most importantly they put the health of me and my child first. To me that was more important than having what I wanted to happen--have a healthy baby and me be fine and that's what I got! THANK YOU REX!

My mother (74 y.o.) went to Rex for congestive heart failure. She is recently blind and also is very weak. After having lots of pain meds, she needed laxatives - which in turn caused lots of "accidents". When visiting her for Mother's Day, we opened the door to her room to find her sitting on a porta-potty covered with feces and her bed was the same. She had been sitting there for 20 mins. waiting for someone to come back, clean her up, change her bed linens and help her back into bed. They would also leave her on a bed pan and not go back to check on her. When they brought food in, they just placed it in there and didn't bother to tell her - I guess she was just supposed to smell the food and not eat it....very uncaring staff. Stay away from Rex!!

Cons: Too many to list

I gave birth to my first child at Rex and had a wonderful experience. I was extremely scared and in a LOT of pain. Anesthesia staff was prompt and sensitive to my fears. When I started having a contraction in the beginning of the epidural procedure, they actually stopped and let me sit up striaght until it was over. Just so you know, that is not typical.
All of the nursing staff (even at shift change) was very caring and focused on me as a patient, not just a shift. Even though I had too many people in my room for delivery, they allowed it because I have a multi-blended family. The only unpleasant part of the whole experience was that we couldn't donate our cord blood because we didn't fill out the paperwork BEFORE she was born. This wasn't explained as being necessary and since I was IN LABOR, I was not thinking about filling out a booklet. Unfortunate, but overall LOVED the experience and would highly recommend this hospital to others.

Had both knees replaced - while waiting to go to rehab- about 4 days - found that staff did not clean bed pan when used , just put powder on it and all over bathroom floor - sister stated to nurse she would not let her dog use the bathroom in there. Needed bed linen changed - had fluids being pumped in and sweeting - at about 3am - aid informed me that they did not change bed linen on third shift..Doctor ordered meds for bad leg cramps ASAP - 4 hours later after sister raised hell finally got them - nurse did not see the need to get them right away. I would tell everyone to say away from that place . I must in all fairness state that the Rex Rehab was great - could not ask for better. When I got home and got a call about my stay I tried to explaine the difference in the hospital stay and Rehab -- they did not want to hear it. I hung up. I did contact the head people at the hospital and my doctor. I found that there had been other complaints simular to mine. To tell you the truth there is not a hospital around that I would trust ...........

First full day, I ask the nurse to change the dressing, she tells me she is BUSY. Head Nurse comes in, says I hear you are angry. I tell infuriated. Husband was in the hospital because of an open wound with a possible bone infection, and you wont change dressings? she says she has no orders to. I say get them. They then tell us the hospital has no non stick bandages. I go down stairs and buy them in THEIR pharmacy. Plus leave and go to another pharmacy to get the rest of supplies, staff still refusing to change bandage. We used our own supplies for the next 2 days. Case manager calling his problem something it was not. Kept him over medicated. Pain meds made him sick , gave him anti nause which made him pass out. Did this for 2 days. Asked them constantly to take him off the meds. They refused. Told me he had a staph infection when he did not. Refused to tell me what time they took him out of his room to get tests done. The entire stay they changed his dressing once. Told the nurse not to rub it, IT CAN NOT HAVE TRAUMA, nurse rubbed it. Last day nurse said she would be right back to change dressing, never returned. I will say it again, HE WAS IN FOR A POSSIBLE BONE INFECTION FROM A WOUND! He has Pyoderma Gangrenosum, and Crohns disease. I dont think they were doing there best to take care of him. Never ever will we go to that place again!

It made me sick seeing these little signs on their cubicles about providing excellent customer service. It's like an overused slogan form "another" used car sales person. That's the kind of customer service you'll get from this hospital. The registration personnel was the QUEEN of RUDE!!! It's okay if you don't know the answer. But it's something else when you CHOOSE to act up to cover for what you don't know. It's embarassing! How can a hospital that charges so much hire such employees!

This is the worst hospital to have a child in! First of all they left my baby shivering unatteneded after birth for 30+ minutes before apagr scores or cleaning up! They have very rude staff including security and are not a true birthing center as they claim to be! I have never stayed in a hospital for 2+ days with a normal delivery and healthy child! My doctor was ready for me to go home the next day witch I wanted but the hospital refused sayinf all newborns must stay for a min. Of 2 days! Its all about insurance and profit to them and soaking uo what the max they can get for profit reguardless of mother or babys needs! So I had to stay 2 1/2 unnessessary days due to this horrible hospital! They were very rude and didn't care about a mothers wishes during labor and pushy! I would not recomend this horrible experience to anyone and would go else where next time! Worst experience ever had with a hospital! So much more than can tell on here!,ext time will use chapel hill birthing center and home in less than 8 hours!

Thank you everyone who makes REX one of the best hospiitals ( if not THE best) in our area. We have had emergency room experiences that are superior. The best doctors in our area are affiliated with this hospital. Raleigh Ortho; Raleigh Opthomology;and the very best Oncology team ever...
Thank you for your wonderful service, kindness and total professional staff in every department. The Pain Management staff is sensational as well. We can not praise and thank this hospital for it's small yet very large personality!!

Thursday 23 october 2008, I under went the most scary operation I have ever had. Well I must be honest that was the only operation I have ever had. So I was scared non-the-less! I had a stint put in one of my arteries. The care and concern that I was shawn in Rex was phenominal. The nusring staff and admitting staff were very nice and reassuring. I had to stay over night and the nurses on West wing were great. Lanese, Beth, Tamra were a few of the great ones. I had alot more I am sure. If I have forgotten your names I am sorry. You all are exceptional!!!!!!! Thank you goes out to the staff of Rex hospital. Thank you very much!

Terrible experience for the delivery of my first child. I had a nurse who really should have been completely supervised (v. young - just stepped out of the sorority house) and made several mistakes while being completely inconsiderate and rushed me to adjust/move for checks when I was having terrible labor pains. From the start, it was rough. She bruised my arm V. badly with the first IV attempt. She didn't even realize the swelling until my husband pointed it out and she called in another nurse to look. The 2nd nurse had to assist with re-inserting the IV. Then when I got the epidural the medicine was only working on one side of my body (wasn't inserted properly - PAINFUL). The nurse was told to pull out the needle a bit (should have been done by the anesthesiologist). Soon after, my heart rate went up and the baby's went down so they had to stop the medicine in the epidural - pitocin, etc. When they started the medicine up again, I could feel EVERYTHING and for about 3 hours continued to let them know that I was in A LOT of pain and the medicine wasn't working. My Dr. couldn't understand why I wasn't dilating anymore with the Pitocin. After hours of pain, he finally said he recommended a C-section. When the anesthesiologist came to prepare me up for the c-section he saw that the epidural needle had come out of my back. HMM! That's why I was in SO MUCH PAIN and that's why I didn't dilate anymore! There was no medicine being administered. So, I had a C-section and possibly could have had baby naturally. After this horrible experience, I have been battling with the billing dept. to get our bills straightened out. They overcharged our insurance and we overpaid a bill. They have me listed under two accounts and can't get it straight to apply one overpayment to one bill to the underpayment of another bill. They are quick to let you know when they havne't been paid but they sure didn't let us know when we overpaid that other bill!!! TERRIBLE!!
