I have shopped @ this seemingly honest, helping the fellow man thrift store for 20+ yrs & while I don't know the bottom line of how much was given to the "blind" or seeing impaired I have seen the "owners/originators" children getting richer & richer. Very sad as the originators didn't necessary see $$$ signs in their eyes when they looked in the mirror. But when spouses & greedy children took over helping the fellow man fell to the wayside as the almighty dollar reared its ugly head. Look it up - the money generated in the name of this charity fails miserably in comparison to the money actually DONATED to the MO Council of the Blind.

This used to be a non-profit store benefitting the Council of the Blind. An independent person bought the store and still collects donations. I called to see if they wanted to buy my items and they reported they only take donations; they do not buy anything.

That would be a nice way to make a living; just take donations of stuff and sell it, except they are not very upfront and honest about it. I would rather give items to Hope House, Hill Crest, or the Kansas City Community Co-op, because they all give the stuff directly to people who need it. All those others who pick up stuff just sell it to other thrift stores and use the money to run their "programs."

Bottom line: check out a thrift store before dropping off your stuff.

They are calling people asking for donations, referencing Missouri Council of the Blind. They have absolutely NO affiliation whatsoever with the Missouri Council of the Blind.

It used to be a store for the Missouri Council for the Blind, but it doesn't seem to be a not for profit anymore. It seems to me like a for profit store now, or a front for something else.

While this thrift store has a wide variety of merchandise, it is typically not the name brand stuff you can find at other area thrift stores. The store is difficult to find, but is one of the cleaner Council of the Blind stores in the area. They often run sales to make the prices even more reasonable than they all ready are.
