So I go past this place and the staff are haning outside of the place smoking! Hello it is Clayton! Dont' hang outside! And the people are so unfriendly. Then I go inside with a co-worker and the people who were stanging outside came in (they work there) where is the owner to control this place! I was going to try the food and my coworker noticed that no one washed their hands? How sanitary is this place! I looked around and there was trash on floor the kitchen looks dirty. We walked out. The service was not great--and also one of the reasons why I left! DON"T VISIT THIS PLACE IT IS DIRTY AND GROSS.

When we got to the place, our waitress promptly seated us and came back within a minute to take drink orders. She was not the friendliest or most polite of people, however, never smiling and never using "polite words" like thank you, but other than that she did an adequate job. After we ordered our food we got it in about ten to fifteen minutes. Overall the barbeque was good; the pulled pork sandwich I ordered was tender, and the three different house-made barbeque sauces went well with it and tasted excellent. My favorite was their sweet style sauce, which has a good balance of sweet mixed with a nice tang and spice.

Prices are very reasonable (you can get an entire meal, including side dishes, for around $10). The atmosphere is very informal and is sort of designed to look sort of like a barn from the south. In addition to the three types of BBQ sauce, they have dishes ranging from BBQ ribs and pulled pork to BBQ beef to chicken. The side dishes we had were not outstanding, except the baked beans, which were a favorite among us all. It's a great place to bring the kids because of the informal atmosphere and the great selection of kid-friendly items like sandwiches and BBQ meat and the good side items.

My only gripe is that, not surprisingly, there is practically nothing on the menu for vegetarians, except the macaroni and cheese. Also, again the waitress could have been more polite and checked on us more often, but she did an adequate job.

Pros: Great value and tasty food

Cons: Only average sides, no vegetarian selection

Awesome beef, pork, and chicken. My favorite side is the potato salad, but the fries and cole slaw and good too. Open 11-9 M-Saturday in downtown Clayton.

Without a doubt, the best BBQ and sides in the St. Louis area. If you like beef, go for the brisket. I usually get the pulled pork sandwich. Among the sides, the potato salad and green bean casserole are the best. But, I'll sometimes get the cole slaw also. A great bargain for lunch or dinner.
