My father was admitted to Mill Pond Health Campus in March 2007 in the Rehabilitation area for care because of his emphysema. The care was very adequate. The Staff seemed to truly care for the patients and tried to provide all the needs and most of the wants for the patients. My Mother was able to share the room with my Father so they could be together. My Father passed away April 2008 and everyone was so caring with my Mother who has dementia. After two weeks my Mother was moved to the Assisted Living area and is still a resident there. My Mother is in the area referred to a Legacy Lane. This area is for memory care. Everyday there are activities for the residents to help with memory, physical activities, etc. The residents counteract with each other in a typical family way. I feel as if Mill Pond Health Campus has been a wonderful place for my Father and my Mother.

My mother needed an assisted living arrangement, so we made an appointment to visit and talk with the staff at Mill Pond. We wanted Mother's input, so we brought her along.

When we arrived, the staff was busy getting newspaper photographs with the Easter Bunny (no doubt for good PR). But their PR failed, at least with us, because nobody had the courtesy to invite us to sit down or ask about our business - even though we had an appointment. Mother, who barely had the strength at the time to even walk into the building, much less stand for any length of time, had to stand just inside the door waiting for 10 or 15 minutes. We finally decided to seat ourselves in the waiting room. It was several minutes more before somebody came over and asked if they could help us. Then we waited several more minutes in the conference room before anybody arrived. My poor mother was exhausted by then.

The facility was very clean. I felt very comfortable that the health of the resident would be well-cared for. But I noticed that none of the residents seemed to be visiting with each other. One or two people walked up and down the hall, but most of them kept their doors closed. It was almost as if they felt confined to their rooms. Mother is an introvert by nature and she would have felt very isolated in those circumstances. I feel quite sure this is unintentional on the part of Mill Pond, but it made me feel that their care would be very one-sided.

Granted, these are only first impressions. We cannot address actual living conditions. But first impressions are very important.

Needless to say, we found another facility that cares, not only for Mother's physical needs, but her emotional needs, as well.
