d'BRONX enjoys high ratings overall and some people claim it's the best pizza in Kansas City. Located at 3904 Bell St, they claim to have New York-style pizza. While it's certainly not as thin as real NY-style pizza, it definitely is good. The place has a nice atmosphere and a friendly staff. They are known for their 30" pizza pies ($45-75), which are large enough to feed a family for at least a couple of days, but they also sell their pizza by the slice ($2.85 - $4.95 per slice). Their menu says about their pizza: "may take 16-20 minutes, but worth the wait" and I would agree with that. Of all pizzas in Kansas City, this is my favorite one so far.

Pros: Great taste, largest pizzas in KC

Cons: A bit pricey

.

When I walked in, I kind of got the feeling that this wasn't the place for me. After browsing the food, I became a little skeptical. But right before I walked out, I saw some really favorable Zagat reviews on the back wall. Sadly, the food did not live up to the reviews. The pizza was bland. The crust was pretty good...yet the cheese and sauce lacked any zip. Like the pizza, the meatball sub was bland and briney (yes, they packed a pickle with the sub...which was a first for me). The host was not too friendly, but wasn't rude. My order was processed pretty quickly...however, some of their items take at least 20 minutes (lasagna, calzones and pizza). If you really want pizza and are in a hurry, get the premade slices. All in all, a little disappointing.

Pros: Average Food, Decent Price, Boylans Soda, Location

Cons: Average Food, Not the Friendliest Place, Long Waits

I'm a local - I live in Westport & work downtown, often lunch here (until recently), & know each location intimately:

Pizza:
Not really NY style (I agree w/ the other reviewers), but still in top 10 pizza shops in KC. Pizza would get 4 stars except for two things: Takes way too long to get a slice (again, in agreement w/ other reviews). 2nd, they hiked the prices on the part pizzas - $60 for a cheese only xlarge pizza? Get real.

Party Pizzas:
1-star...overpriced!

Sandwiches:
Probably your best bet. Nothing terribly unique about their ingredients (hot & cold, on a line, Subway-style), & often difficulties w/ special orders. Ingredients are fresh, decent overall - 3.5 - 4 stars.

Lasagna & Eggplant:
My favorite dish...HOWEVER, often undercooked. In fact, 2 out of 3 times it's FROZEN in the middle (yes, ice cube frozen), even when I specifically ask them to PAY ATTENTION! And, because they are from the freezer, these dishes take minimum 25 minutes, so it doesn't work for lunch hour. If it's cooked properly, 4 - 4.5 stars...but let's be fair & honest. If they are under-cooking nearly 70% of the time, this is a pretty severe problem. I hope there are no raw ingredients in there!

Management:
Here's another 1-star. The Metcalf location is chaotic, & nobody seems to care if the order is wrong. At Bell, the gray-haired woman, & at Crown Center (Suzy?) are pretty rude & snotty most of the time, even to regulars. Recently @ Crown Center, the cashier was helping make sure I got the order exactly how I wanted, and the manager stepped in, interrupted me, & she started berating the poor guy. Major improvement needed.

Staff:
Pretty good most of the time, except (as I said) they often under-cook & get confused by special orders. 3 stars.

Bottom Line:
Used to be a special place. Pretty sad to watch these restaurants devolve. Now I tend to avoid.

While I love the Bell street location, it's the Crown Center spot that keeps me coming back for more. I work downtown and walk to D'Bronx for lunch about twice a week for a great made to order deli sammich or a couple pieces of pizza pie...not to mention some great soups. While I love pizza, all kinds and styles of pizza, D'Bronx carries a great tradition of NYC style pizza, mind you it's not true NYC pizza but they've captured the essence and gave it the flare needed to make KC proud of this home town spot. The main reason I continue to come to D'Bronx is the staff, while the food is always excellent which I expect, what I don't expect and don't receive in many other joints I spent time in is the service and personal friendliness that's carried within the NYC deli like atmosphere. Where they know how many times you come in during the week, remember the things you order, smile and ask how your day is and maybe even do a little dance while they hop to the music playing in the background always appearing to be having a good time while kicking out food to a line of people waiting 25 deep. It's the people and the continued treatment on top of the great food that will continue to draw my business.

Oh yeah...if you like their sauce...try the lasagne sometime...you'll get your money's worth I guarantee it but call ahead or you'll be waiting for 20 minutes easy...

Something's wrong when it takes 17 minutes to get a slice of pizza. It's good pizza but, c'mon, get it together. I would recommend d'Bronx when you have plenty of time to hang out, but if you're in a hurry, forget about it.

DBronx has authenic NY pizza but I don't like the taste of the sauce. Everyone else I have talked to thinks it's delicious, but something about the taste of the sauce does not agree with me. I have tried other dishes there and as long as there is no red sauce on it, I have enjoyed it. Great location.

The Bloom's need to straighten out their help at their new Metcalf location and teach them how to cook a pizza properly. When we were there recently, the pizza (d'Bronx special) was soggy and way underdone. I even took back a portion of the pie and asked them to give another shot in the ovens. Even with another ten minutes in the oven the crust though slightly browned on the bottom was still doughy on the top.
I hope that we'll hear soon that the Bloom's have "cleaned house" and taught their people how a New York Style pizza is supposed to look, feel and taste.

50" pizzas and slices that feel straight from New York. Hard to find pizza in KC that you can actually fold. Last visit I got a great sandwich but after seeing a slice of cheese pizza I know what my next meal will be....

The pizza is superb. If you haven't tried the eggplant on your pizza you are missing it.

The Bell Street Bomb is simply the best deli sandwich in KC.

I am addicted to the sour cream apple pie.

Pros: Atmosphere on 39th Street, ease of access and parking at 105th Street

Cons: Sterility of the new location on 105th - could have done better (like Crown Center location)

I ate here on a Sunday night and was surprised to see all the people. They seemed to be overstaffed but with very slow employees. The tables were not bussed and I was among about 30 disapointed patrons. Next time I want New york syle pizza and calzones, and don't want to wait 30 minutes for these, I will go to Original Pizza. That is the best New York style pizza in Kansas City.

D'Bronx is ok! Not bad for New York styled pizza, but the restuarant is usually crowded. The pizza is tasty and pretty close to New York pizza, but D'Bronx can be expensive. About $20.00 + for a pizza and pitcher of soda. When we went there, they are all about business, because they were featured on Food Network and they are too big for their britches. I don't think they live up to the hype and you are just a number here.

HOWEVER, I live in the Northland, so I refuse to travel 15 miles for pizza. It's not that good to make me want to waste gas. Go to U-Gene's pizza in Riverside and near KCI is a better pizza anyway. The cheese is wonderful, the sauce is enjoyable, and the price is right. We paid $16.00 for a large pizza and drinks and didn't have to travel very far. I am a very picky pizza person being a Native New Yorker myself, and U-Gene's rocks!!! No frills, just excellent pizza and the service is outstanding there. You are not just a number.

I have been eating a this site since circa 1992, and have no complaints.
For the authentic deli feel there is no better place in kansas city to my knowledge
Decor is urban mom and pop deli. Choose from dozens of gourmet sandwiches, pizzas, some of which are creative concoctions I have never heard of. Good veggie menu, soft drink fountains and the gourmet cream sodas, specialty chips are sure to please. Suggest you try this place and order something you never would have ordered. You'll probably find something new each time you visit.
One of my favorite things about eating here is the long table towards the back, where people from all backgrounds sit down togethere without a thought, elbow to elbow and eat the great food that brought them there. I have eaten here all through my schooling and into my professional career, and still find something new to try each time I go.

This is the best pizza in the city. My wife and I order take-out at least twice a month. We have a routine where she drops me off at the door and then drives around the block once until I come back out with the pizza.

The sandwiches are great as well.

The place gets crowded around mealtime as students and employees at KU Med make their way down the street. However the line moves pretty fast and it is well worth the short wait.

D' Bronx is a locally owned pizza and hot sandwich resturant in KC, MO. They have friendly service and cheap prices! One HUGE slice of cheese pizza will set you back about $1.75. It has the NYC pizzaeria feel, and is centrally located by KU MED center! They also carry homemade cheesecake, carrot cake, and double layer chocolate cake.

GREAT deli. Anyone who complains about "service" at a walk up deli needs a life. The food is very good overall, the pizza is perhaps the best in the city. Ambiance at the 39th street location is very good although very unrefined. It is what it is and it does it well. Crown Ctr location offers the same great food in an upscale food court location and is not nearly as charming.

I have been to this establishment twice before, when friends and family claim that is closest to my native state's (New Jersey) pizza. After the first bite, I knew that their assertions were incorrect. From time to time, people at work would order and offer slices to whomever was working, and hey, it's free although not good, pizza. That is the only way to eat D'bronx.

If you want good pizza go to either Antonio's for Chicago style or Original Pizza for New York style.

D'Bronx Pizza is the BEST pizza I've ever had. The pie itself is huge. When I worked in downtown KC, we used to all put our money together once a week and order a D'Bronx pizza. It was addictive. It's the best. I can't say it enough. Now that I don't work in KC, I crave it sometime. We have pizza from other places, and EVERYTIME, I say, I wish this were D'Bronx pizza. I have been known to drive 8 hours for a steak dinner, luckily D'Bronx is only 1 1/2 hours away.

With my last job I was forced to travel to many different cities, speak with clients, and make my boss rich.....Luckily, along the way I was able to eat at a variety of Italian joints, and order tons of pizzas from Dothan Alabama to NYC to Weed CA. and I must say..... Eat at D'Bronx before you die.... If they have to roll your half-alive carcass into the middle of the place and feed you pizza intraveneously then get a move on.... This place reminds me of just feeling good period. Keep up the good work!

I love their pizza! You can order it anyway you want and it always comes out better than you could imagine. I think their best item is the calzones- mmmmm...like the pizza you can put whatever you want in them cause they're made to order, not frozen. I used to work at Saigon 39(which by the way is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in KC) across the street and loved every opportunity to visit D'Bronx.

As a native New Yorker, I can appreciate GOOD pizza. I have been to every state except for Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Idaho and the Dakota's.....D'Bronx is the closest to NYC pizza outside of NY itself. Whenever I am homesick, a visit there brings tears to my eyes. Thanks to D'Bronx.

If you love thin crust pizza you'll love D'Bronx. It's the best I've eaten. I haven't had pizza in NYC, but I can image pizza tasting any better. Try a slice of plain cheese for the full flavor of the sauce. It's GRRREAT! They also have a tasty NY Chessecake.
