Business Response:

We Love Dogs! But we don't tattoo them.... sorry. :^(
.

After reading that last review I was curious to check out Sacred Chao, and its the truth! Mallory and Travis both helped me with my design and Travis ended up doing my tattoo for me. I was really surprised at the service and all the trouble they went through to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I have several other tattoos, some that I like and others I want covered up, and I know when I go to get that done im going back to Sacred Chao Tattoos. I Looooove my tattoo! Ive officially been tattooed at all the shops in Valparaiso now and Im done searching. I give these guys 5 stars and 5 thumbs up! Awesome! P.S. Im also going to have Mallory do my next piercing for me. The only thumbs down I have to give is that they were playing Christmas music way too early! Wait until after Thanksgiving next year guys! ; )

Sorry if this gets long and specific but most tat reviews are from a different group of people--this review is directed at older first-timers.
I am in the healthcare field and one of my top priorities was cleanliness of the place and antiseptic care by the artist. Both were 5-star.

I had decided to get my first tat as a 65th birthday present to myself. My initial contact was with Mallory. She was extremely helpful, polite, knowledgeable and gave me all info that I asked for. In addition, the music in the place was calming, put me at ease and set a professional tone that gave me even more confidence in the place and people. (Good marketing tool!)

Mallory was off the day I had available so I was scheduled with Doug. And here's the list of points that I base my rating on:
~~Before my appt., I saw Doug outside having a cigarette. Thanks for not doing that inside. When he did come in, he had gum so there was no smell of cigarettes when he was working on me. My allergies thank you.
~~He made sure I read and signed the statement that not only included the over-18 requirement but also included medical considerations--as it should!
~~Doug worked with the image I had brought in until it was the best possible choice rather than the quickest and easiest.
~~He was sensitive to my modesty and personal space.
~~He seemed interested in the subject but did not pry or ask personal questions about the choice.
~~He explained the process and after-care patiently and simply until it was clear and until I could remember it!
~~Doug did not push or hard-sell my friend with me, (who was still trying to decide) to come back for a tattoo for herself but simply made her feel that she was welcome to do so.
~~He appropriately talked about others who had gotten tattoos and their experiences without breaking any sense of confidentiality, never revealing names and never making judgments or criticizing them or their choices.
~~He had positive things to say about the place/business itself, which gave us confidence in the way the establishment is run and in his professionalism.
~~He was aware of the implications and differences when considering the total tat process and long-term results on "older" skin.
~~Neither Mallory nor Doug gave us any sense of age discrimination!

And a note to those at Sacred Chaos:
(1) When I began the washing with anti-bacterial soap, it stung a little. So instead, I used a lot of spray Bactine--it cleaned, it cooled (minimizing swelling) and it killed pain. Not that the "pain" was bad--it was just tender.
(2) For the moving-on-to-lotion phase, I got some anti-bacterial moisturizing lotion. Yes, there is such a thing. FYI, it is Gold Bond Ultimate Hand Sanitizer/Moisturizer.
(3) If you sold after-care products like these at the shop, it would be convenient for your customers, help ensure the prevention of infections (bad for business!) and make the shop a bit more $ (good for business!).
(4) All the photos on this review page show the same basic style and topic. Add some to show the variety you have to attract other types of customers.
(5) Go ahead! Be daring! Be the first tat shop to offer senior discounts! You could monopolize a whole new sector of the population! :)

I moved here about 7 months ago. In September, I decided to get my sixth tattoo. The artist, I believe his name was Barry, was very friendly and professional. I was in and out quickly, but not to the detriment of the art. I am very happy with my tattoo, and I will most definitely return for my next tattoo.
