I've taken my aging Golden to see Dr. Hartman for about 4 years. He's seen us through a torn knee ligament, ear infections, allergies, hip dysplasia, and several other issues that stem from neglect by a previous owner. The staff is friendly and efficient, and my dog is always well cared for.

These guys are the best in all of lake county and surrounding areas. They are extremely compassionate, on-time, have flexible hours and have a clean facility. Dr. Hartman and staff treat you and your pet like family and you always know your pet is getting the best possible care and recommendations available. We've been to many clinics over the years and Valley Lakes is, without question the best. As soon as you meet Dr. Hartman you know he is a true compassionate animal lover and he understands your concerns and how you feel as well as what is best for your animal. Many vets come across as a bit cold and ""Doctor-like"" but Dr. Hartman is a great person first and foremost and also a damn good vet on top of it all. Valley Lakes Veterinary Clinic is what all veterinary clinics should strive to become. Compassionate, attentive, and not so large that it's difficult to develop great relationships with their customers. The team at Valley Lakes know and remember our animals and their quirks and don't just treat them like another number on the wall. They also provide online records of your pets (for free) via their pet portal website as well as list the medications they're on and have been prescribed. If your pet requires veterinary foods, you may also order them directly from their website and have them shipped to your house. Dr. Hartman will approve your prescription orders without an office visit. What more could you possibly ask for!? We can not recommend them highly enough. You will not be disappointed

Valley Lakes Veterinary Clinic - Dr. Hartman, Tara and Valarie are some of the most caring people you will ever meet. I recommend Dr. Hartman to everyone I know. I trust him with my pets implicitly. My pets are my children and Dr. Hartman understands that. Two of my pets have medical issues and Dr. Harman always has time to discuss them with me. He was extremely patient with me when I learned about my cat being in renal failure. He took the time to explain what it meant and waited for me to collect myself and ask questions while being extremely emotional. It was almost as if he allotted the time because he knew the discussion would be lengthy - I never felt rushed or burdensome. I knew I would never change vets after our first or second visit. I called the office late after hours and left a message. I was concerned about one of my pets and asked him to call me the next day when he had a moment. He called me back that night. Whether or not he called me that night because I was concerned or he does this anytime someone leaves a message at 9pm - I do not know, but it stuck with me. Whenever I bring my pets in he is always very loving toward them (I think he especially likes my "fat boy" Seti). I believe he thoroughly enjoys what he does as does his staff. We have been coming to this clinic for a couple of years and the staff members are all still there. People tend to stay at a job if they love it. I trust his staff not only with my pets, but also my home. My husband and I travel a lot and about a year ago, the person that normally watches my pets could not do it. Tara from the clinic is now my go to person to stop by and check on my pets when we are out of town. There are so many other examples that I have on why I would recommend this clinic, but you would then be reading a 10 page recommendation.

Dr. Hartman and staff are great. This is the place to take your pets. They know who you are when you are walking through the door. They keep their clinic clean and odor free. Their prices are very reasonable based on the quality of care you receive. If Dr. Hartman is stumped with your pet's condition, he will review the case with specialists instead of sweeping you under the rug like other places do.

I am absolutely disgusted with this place and the doctor. I could write a novel about our situation but I only have a limited amount of space in which to write my review. Basically, we took our dog to them because of an ear infection. We received antibiotics and gave them as required. The ear infection did not go away, but got worse. We went again, and received more (different) antibiotics and a steroid shot to treat the ear infection. The ear infection did not go away. We went AGAIN and only then did the doctor do a swab culture to see what the bacteria was and what antibiotics would be best. Discussing with my husband (privately) our frustration with this stubborn infection, he informed me that at no time did the vet use an instrument to look closely or into the ear canal. HUH??!!! Close to $1k in appointments and medications and he didn't even get a scope and look into his ear. WOW. Oh, and I should mention that at our second visit when the original treatment didn't kill the infection, he suggested maybe our dog might need his ear canals removed for "stubborn" infections that don't go away. So he suggested the good possibility that our dog would need a $4k (range) surgery to remove my dog's ear canals without 1. looking into his ear canals with any instruments, and 2. doing ANY type of allergy testing.

His infection is still not cured or improved, even though we've done so much treatment and medications.. as well as deciding on a food change that is as hypoallergenic as possible (read: more $$). After complaining today that the swelling has not gone down despite the steroids, and that I cannot get the medication into his ears as I was told I would be able to, I was reminded about having his ear canals cut out. Again, before looking into his canals and before testing for allergies. YIKES! We are going to another vet tomorrow and never looking back.

I could add sooooooooooo much more, but I need to keep it simple and to the point for this review to be effective. Not sure if this website allows people to message the reviewer, but if it does feel free to message me if you have further questions.

NEVER EVER EVER GO HERE!
