Great sushi in chicago. I am used to west coast sushi that is by far some of my favorites but this place in chicago rivals them. It has such great rolls at a great price.
They are so creative with thier rolls too. The names are so funny such as omg, whatchamacallit. I will definitely come back here again when i am in Chicago.

I just ate here on a recent trip to Chicago- Loved it!

Super good sushi- the rolls were awesome- only thing I didn't like was the wait.

But all in all- totally recommend.

I have searched high and low for good sushi in chicago and no matter what, I keep coming back to Toro. Although the service is lacking, there is no place in chicago that you can get such creative and tasty rolls. The fish is always fresh and Mitch, the head chef, brings a personal touch to the restaurant. They do not take reservations and seating is somewhat limited as they only have about 7-8 tables, but its worth they wait. They are about 2 full pages of creative and unique rolls that you cannot find anywhere else. If its your first time, I would recommend going with the Yum Yum Yummy roll or the California Tempura roll. Not only is this one of the only sushi restaurants in chicago that really steps out of the box in terms of creativity, its BYOB. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the best sushi of your life.

As long as you bring a little patience you are guaranteed to have a amazing sushi.

The sushi here is some of the best I've had anywhere...I would put Coast as my second favorite. The service is a little slow, but it's worth the wait. There is always a line here for a reason!

Pros: friendly staff and great sushi

Cons: the wait can get long real fast

Sushi Toro is a great sushi restaurant with a fun and intimate setting. There is a very diverse menu and the owner is super friendly and love to give out free rolls to the people who sit at the bar. Also, it is BYOB, so you can bring whatever you like to drink and have a wonderful meal!

First time visitor and didn't have high expectations, but really walked away disappointed. A man was sat right after I placed my "to go" order and they stated it would be 30 minutes. The place only had 3 out of 9 tables sat and I ordered 3 maki rolls and rice. Seems simple and seems simple enough that it shouldn't take 30 minutes. Well I walked down to pick up some groceries and came back 20 minutes later. Order was still not ready, but the man who was sat after I placed my order was well on his way eating. Another 20 minutes go by my order finally comes out and the man that was sat after me left about 10 minutes ago.

Moral of the story.... plan to wait.

This little BYOB sushi places is excellent. The fish is very fresh and it is BYOB, what more can you ask for? The only downfall is that it is a very small space and gets super crowded on a Friday or Saturday night. They dont take reservations so get there early, or go on a week night!

My boyfriend and I decided to branch out from our favorite local sushi place and try Toro since we heard it was great. Considering that the place is so tiny, we expected the 45 minute wait we told it would be, however, 45 minutes slowly turned into an hour and then eventually into an hour and a half. After finally being seated, we waited another 10 minutes before our server approached our table (tiny place - how does that happen?), at which time we were served some awful tasting water and were told they had run out of wine glasses so we would have to wait to uncork our wine. Twenty five minutes after we sat we finally placed our order and got to pour our wine, although the waiting didn't stop there. By the time our first roll came out we were over half way done with our bottle, and each roll from there came out about every 15 minutes. We even made friends with the table of three next to us, who had waited so long that they had to make a run to the liquor store before their sushi even came out! Aside from the untimeliness of our visit though, I do have to say that the sushi was incredibly fresh and very delicious. We absolutely loved everything we tried and were impressed by the generous cuts of nigiri and sashimi. Also, I did run into the sushi chef on the way back from the bathroom and he apologized for the wait, claiming there were 2 things wrong with the rice last night (not sure I want to know after tasting the water). While I doubt we'll be back, I do recommend this place assuming that it could have been an off night.
