Message from The Local Irish Pub

Three different bars, all in one convenient location
  • Happy hour Mon-Fri
  • Lunch special Mon - Fri
  • 3 bar areas w/ distinct styles

The Local is an Irish pub in the true spirit of the word. Established in 1997, it is three bars inside one pub. Each bar has its own unique style and character. Come inside and have a look. The Porter Pub is the main bar with a late 19th-century Dublin style of terrasso floor, dark wood and stained glass. Scattered throughout are snugs and at the rear is a fireplace area that has overstuffed chairs and couches to ensure comfort for laidback conversations. Willy Reilly's is a beautiful light-colored bar, snugs and furniture were made and exported from Ireland. Willy Reilly's is named after a book written by William Carleton in 1889. He was the first Irish writer to have a book published in England. Whiskey Lounge is the smallest bar, but with large window areas facing the bustle of downtown, it has a very spacious feel. It houses over 300 whiskey bottles on display.

Great Service & Food - Fun and Busy Atmosphere 5 Star Rating - World class

I was delighted with my dinner at the Local. I've been there for drinks, it's always a busy, fun crowd. Had dinner the other night, the food was just terrific. They have wonderful salads, you can customize them however you like. The Shepard's pie was out of this world. They also have nice wine by the glass and the Irish Coffee is the best I've ever had. I was impressed at how friendly and fast the service was, even though it was busy. It was a fun atmosphere with very friendly and gracious employees, the building is also gorgeous, reminds me of being in Europe. I will definitely go back for lunch or dinner soon.

Pros: Great Service & Homemade Food
Cons: Downtown Parking, but they did validate

Unsanitary 2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I went to the Local the evening of July 13th, 2008. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwhich with a side salad and I found (I kid you not) a pubic hair in my salad. After realizing what I was holding in my hand I almost lost it and immediately lost my appetite. That really goes to show how unsanitary their kitchen help really must be.

I love the ambience, I like the location, but I will never eat there again.

Pros: Ambiance
Cons: Not Sanitary

Always a good time. 5 Star Rating - World class

This is one of two places I go when I want to have fun in MPLS. The place is huge but it still feels very intimate. The woodwork is gorgeous and it has a good selection of beers/scotch.

Pros: Great atmosphere.
Cons: Slow service at times.

Horrible Service 2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I understand the appeal of the Local - good beer selection, cozy atmosphere, but I find myself avoiding it. It seems as if it is so popular, the servers/bartenders feel they don't need to put forth any effort to provide good service. The happy hour prices are mundane as well. There are other locally owned restaurants/bars in the Twin Cities that have better specials and better service.

Pros: Nice atmosphere
Cons: expensive, horrible service, snotty servers, not good happy hour specials

Great Irish Beers on tap. Very neat architecture! 5 Star Rating - World class

A place that looks very old but is relatively new. Great staff. Great beers. A place where you want to sit on the patio and drink and nice dark beer and watch the people walk by on Nicollet!!! A great place to relax and have a few cold ones! :D

Pros: Great Irish Beers on tap! Great location! Cool architecture!
Cons: Brunch needs to be improved upon.
