Please see your "invisible" clients--ya know, the ones over age 50+. Please make our day by listening as intently as you do the much younger and cuter clients. After all, we're the ones who have the discretionary income to spend during these hard economic times. Do you think we're motivated to provide the "big tip" if you act as if we're not nearly as deserving of your time or attention as our younger and cuter counterparts?? One day, when you are post-menopausal, you'll get it. Or better yet... take the challenge and make us look better & feel better--and kinda act like you care.

I've been going to JC - Wayzata for over a year now and have NO complaints. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. Their color line is one of the greatest I've seen. It lasts and doesn't have one bit of that chemical smell that pretty

i would like to address the misinformed person/mom below who had a bad experience...The Keratin Treatment or Japanese or WHATEVER treatment you get can never be permanent-Why? Because hair GROWS! I get the fabulous Keratin treatment at JC every 6 months; it takes 3+ hours. My natural hair is very course, dry and wavy. I walk out with silky straight hair for 4-6 months.
Thank you Jon Charles. --Wayzata Socialite

I have been getting my extensions done for five years in downtown Chicago right on Oak St. I recently moved to MN and went to Craig at the Jon Charels Salon in Uptown and I'm blown away! This is the Bentley of hair extensions for sure! The hair is the most beautiful ive ever used. I have tried 5 or 6 different brands, and been to salons all over LA and Chicago. I went to the woman in LA who did all the hair extensions for the Pirates of the Caribean movie and she cant even compare. He is so fast and his work is so clean, this is the best i've ever looked! He breaks the bonds down so tiny it is completely natural looking and feels so light. Anywhere Craig goes i will be following him!! Love you Craig!!!

Great salon - I highly recommend Jaime for cuts & Susan for color (she is great for blondes). A non-intimidating salon that I recommend to all my friends. Tell them I sent you!

I have been in seeing Sarah for color in the Mpls location for about 8 months. She is very experienced, listens and always helps select color that is flattering. My color grows out so gracefully. She is also very down to earth and friendly as are all of the staff, I always feel so comfortable there.

I just tried Chloe, a newer stylist, for a cut and I am SO GLAD I did. She may be new, but cuts like an old pro. I have tried a couple of different stylists at JC and while I always leave looking nice, there was something extra special about Chloe's cut. Se really listened and "got" what it is I was looking for. Run over there while she is still at the introductory level, she is sure to move up soon. The only drawback for me is that she is only in Mpls on Sunday, but I am willing to work around that for a great haircut.

I did stray once to Tres Jolie Salon, because of the great reviews. I found that it didn't live up to the hype. Jon English does live up to the hype, but feels like home.

I went to the uptown location and immediately felt at home. My colorist Sara is AMAZING and will serve you well - she also is a pro with highly textured hair (relaxers, etc.). She does great finishes too! Steven is also wonderful as is Amy who has done my teen age daughter's hair. No matter the age the salon is great! Worth taking time out of your day to visit. I have been known to be there 3 days in a row for various services. That says something as my time is precious to me.

Going to this salon is like hanging out with friends - even if I don't really know anyone there. They are very service oriented and care about your experience without being snobs. I usually go for color and I highly recommend Sara Myren. She always exceeds my expectations and I leave smiling.

I have been highlighting my hair for most of my adult life.. As a result my hair has gotten coarse and fuzzy.. I was referred to Jon Charles for color and met his business partner Craig the salons creative director. He suggested a keratin treatment after my color service with Jon, let me tell you I can't begin to express how amazing my hair feels. The treatment eliminated all my frizz and my hair is much softer, it cut my blow drying time in half. For the first time I have shine in my hair and the ability to leave my house with just a simple blow dry!! I'm hooked! Thank you Jon Charles Salon.

I was recommended by a friend to go to Rocky at the Wayzata salon to get a fresh new color on my hair. I liked my stylist but was ready to try someone new. We spent about 15 minutes talking about my hair and what I had in mind. I never really know what I want so I left it up to her to do what she thought would look best . She then got me a glass of wine and got started. She explained everything she was doing the whole time. I have never been happier with my hair! I have great color with a lot more volume! She also informed me the way I blow dry my hair is for straight hair, not for volume, she told me the kind of brush to use to get better volume which is much needed with my hair. I love Rocky and will be going to her from now on!

I started going to Jon Charles Salon in Wayzata almost a year ago when my colorist, Rocky, moved from another salon. Rocky has always done a fantastic job, which is why I followed her, but Jon Charles has given her the tools that make her even better than I knew she could be! They use the best quality products. My color lasts MONTHS! Rocky educated me about tools and products that make my hair healthier and keep my color longer. I get compliments almost everday on the color and health of my hair. The girls I work with even call me "hair commerical". Jon Charles is a leading salon in the Twin Cities, but still affordable too! I can't believe how much they have changed the life of my hair!

I have been to the Wayzata location twice now and have loved it both times. Dan cut my hair today and did an excellent job! The staff are very welcoming, offering you coffee and water to sip while you wait. I also learned that they do free bang trims in between cuts. I have rarely been more pleased with a cut, and plan to make this my regular salon. Located near Wayzata Bay, this is also a fun area to shop/drive around. Great experience!

I don??t regularly write reviews for anything - but I just had to write one about the Jon Charles salon. I have never in my life been more pleased with my hair color or a salon experience as I have been here.I walked in a bit anxious about having someone new do my hair, but was put in a place of calm serenity from the moment I walked up to the front desk - wheresstylist and Jon Charles were, I was welcomed and told that I was in excellent hands. He directed me to all the write-ups about the salon in their window and walls. The moment I met my new colorist, I knew I was in for a wonderful experience. She greeted me with a smile and we sat for a while just talking about what I wanted (and didn??t want) in my hair color. She was calm, she was funny, she was real? and I now have real looking hair color. Really, the color is the most wonderful I??ve ever had and it doesn??t even look colored ?? and if you??re like me, I??ve had some crazy color before.

I recently went to the wayzata salon and had a wonderful time. I instantly fell in love with the space. High ceilings, large mirrors and an open floor plan. I was greeted by the girls, I told them I didn't have an appointment and they got me right in, after offering me a beverage and a seat.

My haircut started by introductions with Steven, a young fashion forward guy, who looked the part of a stylist. I told him what I was looking for and he executed it wonderfully, with the perfect amount of his input, I walked away feeling refreshed and great about my new look. Over all the bright open space and friendly, skilled staff has won me over.

My hair looks fabulous! I haven't had Susan color my hair in years.. we lost contact.. But I am soo glad I found her again. She worked with me on the colors and we decided to go with a highlight/lowlight look. And it looks great.. I have had so many complements in the last week.. I am shock people are noticing.. they keep telling me how natural it looks. Not to mention the great haircut I received from Chloe. I am so glad I found this salon.. I have already referred several friends! I would totally recommend this salon!

This treatment is AWESOME. i love it SO much. basically what they do is wash your hair three times with a clarifying shampoo if your hair is virgin, and twice if it??s chemically treated. then they dry it so it??s about 80% dry, and then they section off the hair and apply the keratin. once this keratin is applied throughout the whole head, the stylist will blow-dry your hair. it will dry rather stringy, but once it is straightened out, it looks great, though doesn??t feel amazing. you leave it in for three days, and around the third day, the hair gets softer and smoother. then you wash it and it comes out AMAZING. you don??t really need product or a blowdryer. its just awesome. my hair is super super curly, and after i??ve done this treatment, the curls are relaxed and a lot smoother and wavier. it looks like i have super model hair when all i??ve really done is get a blow dry! it??s awesome. i REALLY suggest it. my hair is soft, smooth, and beautiful. i can??t believe i didn??t get this done sooner.

I recently received a foil and cut at the Wayzata location.

Susan did my foil and I expected a beautiful color as she was listed as one of the top stylists at the salon. I was very disappointed. She spent almost no time at all consulting with me about what color/ look I was going for beyond "highlights and lowlights" and just started mixing up the color. She did a partial foil on me and the results were horrible. It was pretty much the same blah color I had gone in with, but with very brassy and poorly done highlights. Some of them showed a half inch or more of root. This is not the level of service I expected to receive from a master stylist, and I was so disappointed. To top it off, Susan overcharged me at the end for a foil and extra color, when I only received a very basic partial foil. I have received better color for a fraction of the price at the Aveda Institute. This is not the place to go if you want to splurge on a great color, you will just end up wasting your money! I will be getting the color fixed at a different salon.

Chloe cut my hair and did a great job. She consulted with me in depth about what I wanted, offered suggestions, and put a lot of effort into giving me a great cut. I was very pleased with the work she did and the level of detail she put into my haircut.

The overall style of the salon was fun and quirky, but it was messy and disorganized. Not recommended!

If you are thinking of getting your hair straightened and are looking specifically at Japanese hair straightening (also known as thermal reconditioning), I would recommend that you avoid the Jon Charles Salon (in Uptown or Wayzata).

I had the Japanese hair straightening done when I was living out in NYC and loved the benefits I got from it. The results were great and my hair was perfectly straight even with just air drying it (saving me so much time in my routine). The results are permanent which is great! I was looking for a place in Minneapolis/St. Paul that offered this service for my mom who had naturally coarse hair like mine. I learned about the Jon Charles Salon from my grad school classmate so I brought my mom there for consultation. In speaking with Jon and his team, they claimed that they were very experienced and promised us great results. After spending 5 hours in the salon and paying over $600 for the process we were told to wait a week to wash the hair (I only had to wait 2 days). Only to find out that the results were not permanent and her hair just looks fried. We called and they told her to come in again and they would fix it. After a few more hours in the salon she left a second time. It??s been a couple of weeks since the second service and her hair looks more damaged than what she walked in with. She??s tried calling the salon but now her calls are being ignored and Jon has been ??in meetings? or ??with client? and has not returned any calls (i.e. no accountability).

So in short, the Jon Charles Salon does not meet their claims of being experienced in Japanese Hair Straightening. They may be good at other services they are providing, but they clearly fall short on this process that they charge $600 for! I am now planning on taking my mom to NYC to get her hair fixed and I would suggest you spend your money elsewhere.

Went here for a manicure/pedicure and was not impressed. First impression was that the reception was wearing a dress that barely covered her bottom, and I could see my nail tech's bra (and more) throughout the entire service. The owner's son (probably about 7-10 years old) was running around the salon, and kept poking his head in during my pedicure. Plus, the placement of the pedicure chairs (which don't have massage options) was such that staff were always walking by. When I moved to the front for my manicure, it became VERY clear that my nail tech was not experienced. She didn't know where any materials were at the station, and frequently had to get up to look for things. Her foot also bumped my just-pedicured foot underneath the table, which ruined one of the toes (though she did re-do it). While I was in the front of the salon getting the manicure, the owner and staff ordered Jimmy John's sandwiches, which the owner's son then ate at a hair station not far from me - I thought that was pretty unprofessional. The worst part, though, was that I was left without a goodbye from my nail tech with my nails wet as she moved on to her next hair client. (I wasn't offered a nail dryer like most places, though I think I saw one underneath the other manicure station.) Though the receptionist was helpful with my credit card, she didn't seem to care about the nail tech's tip. When I asked if I could have it added to the card total, she said I'd have to write a check or use their ATM for a cash gratuity - very inconvenient. Also, I didn't appreciate the receptionist asking me if I wanted my hair styled before I left - too much add-on selling trying to go on! All in all, I tried this spot out because it was a bit cheaper than the salon I normally go to for mani/pedis. I would rather pay a bit more and have a professional service. Guess you get what you pay for.

The one pro is the Sunday hours, and parking is pretty easy in the lot behind the salon. Would not recommend.

I just went to John Charles Salon for the first time just a few days ago, and the experience that I had there was amazing. I told them what I wanted and they did not disappoint. The service was incredible. The atmosphere was what you would want from an Uptown Salon and Barber Shop. There were a variety of people and everyone was taken care of with the exceptional John Charles touch of care! John was personable and friendly, and I will definitely be going back!!!!

Just got my hair foiled by Jon Charles himself. I am thrilled with the results. I came in asking for a highlight, something appropriate for spring and the color is perfect. It was what I had in mind, but couldn't fully articulate. It definitely brightens up my look. I love a colorist that can also provide guidance and give opinions. He was quick and made it look easy. They also dried and styled my hair for free! I've been to other salons where they have you dry your own hair. Hate that - especially considering how much you pay. I was even offered a free manicure while I was waiting. This is a full service salon. The cost of the foil was even less than what I pay downtown. I was expecting to pay quite a bit for having Jon Charles color my hair. I was pleasantly surprised. The feel of the salon is modern, but not too trendy. I am a business professional and did not feel I was out of my element. I highly recommend this salon. I plan on getting my hair cut there next. I hope the results are as great.

Pros: The talent of Jon Charles

.

Bravo to Jon Charles Salon for making my first visit absolutely splendid, so wonderful, that I just had to write about.

This was the first time that I left salon and didn't want to immediately run home to wash my hair only to re-style it. (Ladies, you know exactly what I am talking about - we've all done at one time or another.)

I've been to many other "notable" Uptown / Mpls / Metro salons, however in my opinion, Jon Charles took the cake in providing me with the personalized attention and care needed to my hot mess of hair.

The atmosphere was hip (but not trying to be "too hip"), easy-going, professional and but most of all unpretentious. It was quite obvious the staff was enjoying what they do best and was genuinely enthusiastic about being there.

My first visit included a full foil with Jon Charles. Simply stated, his talent is undeniable. I don't know what else to say. I can finally be confident in my blonde-li-ness, not bleached, not white, not yellow, but a rich, skin-tone/feature appropriate blonde. (Yesssssss......)

After Jon, I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan who would be cutting and styling, my again, hot mess of a 'do. He's talented, funny, engaging, and dare I repeat myself, truly talented. As with Jon Charles, my cut was personalized - and for the first time ever, my boyfriend gasped in sheer love of my cut/style. Like I mentioned before, I've been to many other "notable" salons, but *never* before have a had blowout such as the one I experienced.

Needless to say, I will be returning.

FYI, BTW: For gratuity, the salon only accepts cash, which is placed into evelopes for each stylist/colorist (Just be prepared if you are receiving services from more than one person - do da maff.)

FYI, BTW: Yah, the parking is so-so, but it's Uptown, so deal with it. There is a pay lot behind the salon, with my total for approx 3 hours was $5. Otherwise there are meters in front of the salon up for grabs.

I finally found the people that make my hair look amazing. I went to Cheryl for the best cut I have ever had and Stori for the perfect color. They also had a blowdry bootcamp to teach me how to have the look of a real
blowout at home . I have never felt that I have looked this good in my life, except for mabey when I was seveteen.

I heard about Jon Charles' Salon in a Mpls publication, and believed every word of Jon's passion for personlizing hair-cuts to the person and making my hair scream.

My stylist did not ask me if I wanted my hair to scream - and she was completely devoid of personality.

I brought two relatively different photos in - asking for pieces of each of the styles. I specifically said that I did not want a "bob," to which the stylist replied, "I think we should do the bob, because I think that's cute."

I should have left.

Not only was I treated pretty poorly by my stylist, but I obviously did not get the cut I was looking for, rather the cut my stylist was looking for.
Technically, there's nothing wrong with my hair - but I will sadly never go back to this salon.

I had high hopes - I like Jon's vision. Unfortunately, the staff doesn't seem to share the same passion. At least not the stylist I saw.

I always look forward to my appointments at Jon Charles Salon...from the time you walk in until the time you are leaving, you feel somewhat like a celebrity or at the very least, an extremely important client. Besides the friendly service and great attention, every staff member is experienced and at the top of their game. My experience has specifically been with Cheryl (haircut) and Jon Charles (color)...both are masters at their trade and take great pride and passion in their work. They give honest and constructive input about your hair and make you feel like you are in the hands of experts. I always leave happy with my hair and feeling great. I have noticed looking around at the other clients in the salon...they are also having fun and seem happy with their service. The salon provides other services also such as facials, waxing, manicures and pedicures. I have yet to try those services but I plan on it. They also carry top of the line products such as Kerastase, Bumble&Bumble and Eminence Organics. I can highly recommend this salon because I have tried many in the Twin Cities with many disappointments but Jon Charles Salon never lets me down!

Cons: Pay for Parking

This salon is ultra trendy with a cool decor. The staff is friendly. You start out with a feeling that this place will work. I got a fantastic consult but then my cut left me dissapointed. I asked for texturizing and got none. I had to have it redone a week later. And my color was a little too red and didn't take so well. If you're looking for a great haircut that works and falls into place, it's probably not here.
