Matt Pomerantz with the unemployment rate up to 10% in NYC why do you employ illegal alien works in Zucker's Fish and Bagles and Murrays Bagels. There is a steep fine and it is unfair for legal Americans to be put out of work by employers like you.

This area of Manhattan has lost a lot of bagel shops, so this is one of the only ones left. People love Murray's - always have. Me, personally, I don't love them. I mean they are a real NY bagel, no doubt, but for me, they are a bit overdone and crunchy on the outside. Still, it is better than others who claim they are a real NY bagel.

the bagel are ok, the only thing i don't like is than, there are 2 person in the store, one is a girl and the other one is a guy with mustache. ''ARE MANAGER'' both of them have awful attitude, they think costumers don't understand spanish ,anyway.
but there are 2 guys in the store who i think are the best, they are fast, there are both tall, one of them wear glasses .

When it's not to busy- Great place to sit and enjoy late breakfast or lunch. Whitefish, Tuna, Tofu Spread, all great on their fresh bagels.

Pros: Great Spreads, Great Bagels, Nice Staff

Cons: Even though they are good fresh.. Gotta Toast Bagels

.

I love the whole everything bagel at murrays --- it is so good you do not even need to add cream cheese! Keep it simple at Murray's, and don't ask for them to toast your bagel -- enjoy it fresh!

I agree with the previous reviewer, except I think the food's fine. I'd eat here regularly, in fact, except for the sneering, jockeying staff. It's like they decided to gather for an impromptu party, which involves flirting with each other, telling inside jokes, and having a general blast, and who cares about all the irritated customers? Every time I've been to Murray's, it's ruined a perfectly lovely Sunday afternoon.

The bagels are okay. They make them extra big and burn them so you think they have the crisp exterior trademark of a good bagel (for those new to the authentic bagel experience, they should have a crisp exterior with a dense chewy interior)

The worst feature of Murray's on 6th is the AWFUL SERVICE. I've gone there three days a week for 6 weeks and got what I ordered only twice. The last time, the man even unwrapped the bagel to look at it and still it was wrong! They ask for your order minimum of 3 times and have asked me up to 6 times from the time I first placed my order until I arrived at the cashier and still couldn't get it right.

If you are really hankering for a truly good bagel then take some time and meander over to Hudson and Christopher to HUDSON BAGELS. Those are excellent bagels (and the service is great)

I love the bagels, I can't stop sinking my teeth in them. I found the coffee pretty good, clean store, great service. Everyone was so nice to me. But the only thing that turns me off is where are the Americans, I will gladly pay extra to put an American to work.

P.S.

I will love to meet the person(s) who makes these lovely bagels.

I came here just for coffee to go and waaaay too much milk was added- by the time I was few blocks away and took the first sip it was cold & cup filled halfway with milk. Decided to give it a second try for coffee to go and this time they started to pour gallons of milk in the cup but I greatly exaggerated to go easy on the milk side. By the time I was a few blocks away noticed the milk was CURDLED and spoiled. They should allow you to dress your own & would most likely have solved those problems.

Pros: Can't comment on the bagels - never tasted

Cons: Terrible coffee

There was a bit of a line when I went on Saturday around noon(approx 10 customers in front of me), but the staff is fairly efficient. I got a multi-grain bagel with sun-dried tomato cream cheese for $2.95. The cream cheese was good. The bagel was ok.

Murray's used to be my favorite bagel shop but the past two times i've been there, my bagels have been incredibly hard. this is not what a typical NY murray bagel is supposed to be like !! the cream cheeses are still good atleast... These days i'm living Hot & Crusty over Murray's :-\

The Eighth Ave location is the best place to eat bagels in the city. 1) Ignore what the unscrubbed masses might think: idiosyncracy (i.e. refusing to toast bagels) is a GOOD thing. 2) Boys boys boys boys boys. The Chelsea parade makes for great reverse window shopping. 3) Great bagels. Guess what? The bagels are just the right combination of crispy and chewy and warm and wait that glob of lox spread is about to drop on the floor so let me shut up for a second and grab it with my mouth before it falls. Mmmmpph. 4) The staff are a little soup-nahtzi-ish, but in a good way. 5) See you there.

I love to visit Murrays for my bagel fix. They are often crowded on the weekends but they are efficient and accurate with their service. Don't expect to sit down inside though, there are only a few tables and they are always full.
Try the olive cream cheese or the lox spread on a whole wheat everything bagel. Yum!
Their coffee is quite good too!

A select few places in New York make real, true bagels as they should be and this is one of them. The bagel is crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. It goes well with anything you like on it. Personally, I'm a sucker for a warm sesame bagel with lots of butter and the ones I've had here were to die for!!! These bagels do not need to be toasted, that's only for pseudo and day-old bagels as any true New Yorker will tell you.
My only complaint, the place is way too small. If it's busy then getting a seat is next to impossible. I wish they would expand as I don't live nearby and often would prefer to eat in.

I think Murray's Bagel has good texture, the inside is soft and the outside is chewy. However, their garlic bagels and everything bagels are often covered with burnt and bitter garlic bits that pretty much destroy the whole flavor. I do like their cream cheese, not the best I had, but most flavors tasted ok.

Having been a long time Ess-a-Bagel fan, I was surpised to find myself return time and time again to Murray's. The Bagels have an outstanding taste with a terrific texture, both chewy yet not gummy. Overall, the best bagel in town. . . now if they could only get a toaster.

I love Ess-a-bagel, but I live on the west side, so I often go to Murray's for convenience. Their bagels are fine, but they are a little overcooked, and not really a 'special' bagel experience. Better than the bagel shop on the corner, but not worth going out of your way for, in my opinion. Also a little more expensive than your average bagel place.

Good spreads, great beverage selections and bagels really tasty. THE BIG COMPLAINT: NO TOASTING AVAILABLE. I complete the total bagel experience by having it lightly toasted. Murray won't do it. Won't or Can't is not in the service directory. But who says Murray's is anything about service. So close, but not good enough.

I say Murray's is the BEST.....because it's not the modern bagel blimp!! with like a million carbos! and more like a hearty, mom-approved snack, and not a meal of white flour carbos!! Tasty? Yeeees! chewy, yes! The overblown, pumped-up modern bagels eschewed (sic) by H&H, Ess-a-Bagel, and others, is like eating half a loaf of bread. The essential example of how "a serving" has grown in proportion to the collective American ass. Give me Murray's!!!

"Anonymous" obviously is not from NY. Bagels outside of NY are horrible so people HAVE to toast them to eat them. Murray's bagels are delicious...no need to disguise the taste. If you want to eat toast, buy a loaf of bread.

I give Murry's the edge over Ess-a-Bagel and H&H, though depending on the batch, each place's bagels are great and can beat each other. Murry's gets the edge because it tastes great (like a real bagel), has friendly quick service, and has a lot more to offer--ambience, other food and desserts, and beverages (decent coffee). So what if they don't toast and they aren't the cheapest place? Other places have half the quality and charm and charge the same or more. No offense to the 5/3 reviewer, but quit your whining and take your medication--Murry's is a mom-and-pop place and comparing it to Ranch 1 is absurd. Going there once in a bad mood does not give you the authority to dismiss its great bagels.

Murray's isn't cheap. And it's true, they don't toast. But god, these bagels are good! Firm, chewy, not too doughy. If you're a penny-pincher, get a 1/4 lb. of your favorite salad, then order your bagel dry--it's cheaper than a sandwich.
