I dont really see the big hype around JP Licks. The ice cream is good, I'll eat it, but its nothing to write home about. I like Coldstone much better or just good ole Brighams.

Much better than it's neighboring competitor and chain Coldstone creamery. They are very creative, have a big notice board so you can read all about yoga classes and some college student who gives meditation sessions, and the actual Ice-cream is very good. One I recommend: Cow Tracks.

Although other competition has moved into Newton Centre (e.g., Cold Stone), JP Licks is still the best ice cream in Newton Center. My favorite is the oreo coffee ice cream. They make great ice cream cakes too!

Fantastic homemade ice cream -- Always fresh, always new flavors.
Recently they experimented with Tabasco, "diablo" and cucumber flavors -- but they always have your classics as well. Shakes are great, people are friendly and their coffee is a wonderful alternative to the major three chains in Boston.

When it comes to homemade ice cream, its either really good, or really really good. JP Licks is the latter, but you cannot go wrong with this style. The ever-evolving menu keeps customers coming back for more, and despite the almost everpresent line, there's never a long wait. And if there is, its worth it! I've never been disappointed with any selection, and the staff is more than happy to help out with a sample or recommendation. Great ice cream, great service!
