- Minus Star is how I rate this company... We own a couple houses on one lot. They constantly deliver and bill the wrong tenant. One time we got stuck paying for it, and we did not request the fill. OMG run like hell from theses people !

I agree with everyone else on here... Stay Away From Hocon! Nothing but problems. They ruined my Hardwood Floor and will do nothing about it!

I would give this company no stars if I could. They are one of the worse companies I have ever dealt with. They tried to double charge me for tank rental when I opened my account and it is impossible to close your account with them and get your deposit back. I have been waiting for 6 weeks for my deposit to be returned and I have to pay $70 to close the account! I was told today that the account closure has to be quote 'authorised by the President who has several offices and that is why it takes so long'. It would be quicker to have it signed off by the President of the United States!
Please please find an alternative and save yourselves the stress and hassle of dealiing with this lot.

I switched to Hocon early this year for propane delivery. We have had 2 major storms. In both storms Hocon failed to deliver propane within a reasonable period of time. It took 4 days the first storm and 3 days the 2nd. The roads were

I just read these other posts as I was looking for a way to vent about the worst company I've ever done business with in my entire life. It takes a lot to motivate me to go out of my way to do something this, but HOCON managed to motivate me. This is a first for any company. Congratulations.

Where to begin? It tooks almost a month of calls just to get someone to come to my house to bring tanks and hook me up. Then they didn't fill the tanks. I called the offce and was told the tanks were full. Despite this, the tanks were not! I had to convince the woman on the phone that I was not the crazy one. Then they fill the tanks, but only 80%. They couldn't explain this one at all, yet they billed me for full tanks. This was after missing appointments and changing dates on me repeatedly.

They ran the lines right under where the metal lid rests directly on it, not through the space to properly run the lines. This risks line breakage. I called and told them and they took another 4 weeks to send someone to fix this. Again, this was after changing appointment dates on me again and again.

I tried to get a quote for a fireplace install and despite phone calls repeatedly, I had zero response. I went to the Guilford office and had the same experience as another poster - no attention, guys chatting with each other...could care less that I stood at the counter for truly 5 minutes while they talked about their lives. Finally, when I mentioned that I was hoping to get a fireplace installed, they acted like they'd be doing me a favor. It took another 4 weeks of weekly follow ups by me to get anything started.

I didn't use them of course but they had to connect the line to the fireplace I got elsewhere. They scheduled me and then when I took the day off from work to be there, they told me I wasn't on the schedule. Just stunning.

This company sent guys who couldn't quote any price for anything - "i don't know...just started...no clue...get back to you with that....", broke 80% of appointments made, changed dates on me, over billed me and generally did just about anything poorly that could be done poorly.

I have never witnessed a company that was run so horribly from the reps that come to the house, the women on the phone at the office, to the guys in the store front. I have heard from 10+ other folks on the shoreline with very similar stories with HOCON over the last few months. I'm not sure how they stay in business, but it seems they are working very hard at seeing just how bad they can be.

I second what another poster said. If this warns just one person to stay away, then this was worth my time. Hocon, you should be ashamed of yourself. As a business, you are a disgrace!

My latest experience with Hocon takes the cake. We have 2 tanks, one for our home hot water heater and one for our pool. They delivered gas for one tank on May 23rd then to the other on May 30 at TWO different prices. then double billed me for one delivery. when I called and spoke with Aaron, who by the way I'm still waiting on a call back from a month later, he was useless and just kept saying that the double bill was correct. oh and the explanation for the 2 different prices? Its based on usage....MORON, you delivered the same product to the same house one week apart and you justify charging over a dollar more per gallon as "usage." STAY AWAY from them, they are HORRIBLE and NOT customer friendly.

Well for the first time in a long time, someone pissed me off enough to get fired into action. I sent of a letter to Hocon this morning, copied the BBB, the Dept of Consumer Protection and the New Canaan Advertiser. I order gas for my pool heater a week before my pool company was going to be opening everything up so that they could get the heater on line. Hocon never delivered the gas. I called and was told that inspite of my having talked to two different people, they had no record of my order. My pool company is going to charge me $75 to come out and bleed the line and get the heater up and running....Hocon offered to do it for $85 when it was their incompetance that caused the problem. They finally delivered the gas....and charged me almost $4.70 a gallon. I immediately callled one of their competitors, Rural Gas, who quoted me $2.82 a gallon. When I went to cancel my service with Hocon, they had the gall to tell me that they are going to charge me I think it was $75 to cancel....I have to pay them, for having caught them trying to steal from me?
They really are not very clever either. I suspect that had they charged me $3.25, only about 40 cpg gallon over the market, I probably would have just paid it, but they got greedy

Keep in mind if you a PIA customer they over charge your credit card 200.00 more than what the fill was for. These people did this for every fill. I had to go down to the Norwalk location several times. The customer service is very poor.

Please please please do not use Hocon gas! I have never taken the time to write a review but I felt the need to after being robbed by these leachers for the 1000th time. They would only deliver AFTER we would run out of gas and would take days of us calling them to come. And when they would they would give us a mystery fee that they wouldn't give us a drop of gas till we would pay. If this review stops just ONE person from using their "services" then I've done my job. You're not a customer to these slimeballs, just another chump!

This company is horrible!!! We wanted to use a local company to install a gas insert into our fireplace. The office staff in Guilford is rude and won't return your phone calls. I had to visit their showroom on a Saturday to speak with Dan who was right out rude to me and treated me like I was bothering him. They made an appointment to install the insert and told me a three hour window. I took the day off to accommodate the appointment but of course they didn't show and didn't call. When I called the office they told me that they never gave me a time frame and that the installer was only on the second job of the day and that they would
be out sometime during the day. When the techs showed they
reviewed the job (this was their third visit to my house). They finally rang my doorbell and told me that their ladder wasn't long enough to reach my roof...!!!??? I wish I had read all the reviews before I agreed to go with Hocon. The techs told me to call the office in the morning to reschedule the install. I will call them but to demand my money back.

I figured this is because they charge you $60 dollars to CLOSE an account. Thats right... just to close your account a freakin fee. how insane is that? I have also had disasterous results with Hocon. Over the past three years, they have left me without propane on the coldest winter days, at least ten times--despite the fact that I was supposedly on automatic delivery. And my whole house is heated by propane, and I use it for cooking too. The last straw is when I was down to 10 gallons, and called as instructed by their own personnel, and was told I was going to have to pay an additional $250 for the service call on Memorial Day. (When I was having a party for 30 people and needed to cook all morning.) Phone calls to the President and General Manager in Norwalk have not been taken, or answered. AVOID HOCON!!!!

I watched on three separate occasions before I decided it wasn't some sort of mistake. The third time, I took pictures of the guage before and after the fill. When I called them, the president, Dave Gabel, refused to take my call (they screen him and protect him as if he actually is someone important). The manager offered no explanation. When I cancelled the account, they would not refund my $300 deposit. On anotherr property, I watched as the driver drove over my lawn (unnecessarily), damaged shrubs, grass and a stone pillar, all to save walking the hose an extra 20 steps of walking the hose. This was in December. The manager wouldn't take my calls but had the dispatcher call me. He agreed to have "their landscaper" fix the problems in the spring. It is now spring and I have been calliand emailing for a week and the manager and dispatcher will not reply and the president of self-imposed-importance, as usual, will not take my call. They are crooks and a nightmare. Please do yourself a favor and use someone else!

They charge you $65.00 plus Fuel surcharge and CT sales tax to close your account. Complete ripoff. They don't tell you this when you sign up with them. Will NEVER use them again. Wouldn't even recommend them to people I don't like.

The customer service people are unprofessional and not knowledgeable about the service the company offers.
They service technicians who deliver the gas are friendly.
When you call the company they definitely don't care about your family keeping warm.
