The second i saw my 16.3 hand thoroughbred I fell in love. I now bord him at the Cartee's and he is geting the best care I could ever ask for. If you or your child is interested in taking lessons I would highley recommend Cartee. EVEN MY MOM WANTS TO TAKE LESSONS NOW.

o.k. the deal on Cartee Equestrian Center is it's by FAR the BEST place i have been to or could go to.i can't think of any way Cartee could be any better.i am a riding student there and i absolutely LOVE it.ALL the horses are extremly well cared for.they are all fed and watered.the only ones that are thin are not thin because they do not get fed its because they don't eat or they were just bought by the cartee's and they were thin when they got to the farm and the Cartee's feed them and get them healthy and fit.the cartee's really care for ALL their riders and the safety of the riders as well care that the rider learns and has fun.we learn many important things not just for our riding career but for life.if anyone ever critisizes don and marie then they need to shut there mouthes fast because they don't know what they are talking about.everyone that rides at the farm as so many opportunities its unthinkable.they have well trained safe reliable horses for beginners and challenging horses for experianced riders.theres a horse for every student to love and a student for every horse to love.At Cartee Equestrian Center dreams come true.you make friendships that last a lifetime there. We are big family and theres a LOT of love at he barn.enough for every rider to FEEL and BE loved.and thats how the barn works.thats what the barn is;horses, friends, and love.

I came to cartee a few years ago. This is an amazing place. the owers treat every horse ENCLUDING PASTURE BOARD just as if the horse was theirs! ALL the horses are well kept for and everyone ALWAYS has water. The Owner stays up late every night just making sure all horses are ok i and have enough hay and water. you will not see any horse who looks unhealthy. they are all loved and cared for. In some reviews befor mine peope talk about how the pasture board horses are not kept for and are skinny. Cartee gives hay all through the winter and rotates paddocks in the summer so they have plenty of grass. the horses that are so called "skinny" were because of the owner not careing for the horse properly. Some horses are easy keepers and only need grass but others you do have to feed them. this is NOT any result of the cartees. they are hard workers and know how to teach the kids! Don and Marie Cartee are excelent instructors! they are the BEST! I have been showing now and have too many ribbons! I am asuccessful rider and its because of them. when i first came there i had no clue how to ride..... and now my goal is the junior olympics and i have jumped 5 ft and have gotten first place AND RES. CHAMPION AT AN "A" SHOW! Now anyone who says he cant teach they are RONG! Because when we go to a show EVERYONE of the kids bring home ribbons. Cartee Equestrian Center is a GREAT place for your kids. The barn is like one big family! everyone there is great and every horse is well cared for and loved very dearly. like i said in the above each horse including borders horses are treated like champions and are keept a very good eye on by Don, Marie,Caitlin, and Rachael! this barn is very clean and well kept up with! ILOVE IT THERE AND WILL NEVER LEAVE!

My daughter and I have been riding at Cartee Equestrian Center for the past 4 years and have had a great experience! Before we even mounted the horse, we were taught how to groom and tack up the animal and reviewed important safety issues. As beginners, we started with private lessons which helped us learn the basics of equitation. As we gained more skill and confidence we moved into group lessons which have been extremely helpful because we observe and learn from others in the class. Lessons focus on hunter/jumper, but basic dressage and flat work are strongly emphasized. A few minutes of each class is spent reviewing basic principles or problems students may be having with respect to the lesson that day. When a particular student and/or horse is having difficulty, the class is stopped for several minutes so Don can focus his attention on that student. This is extremely helpful for the individual, but also for the class as a whole. Our students participate in local and regional shows and are very competitive with other riding schools that include both children and adults. Most importantly, Cartee Equestrian Center is a fun place to ride. The parents and children that ride here are part of one big family and we enjoy our time together. Many of the parents and children volunteer their time at the barn because they love spending time with the animals and want to show their appreciation for Don and Marie's commitment to providing an excellent riding experience. Like many things in life, there is no barn or riding school that does not have an occasional problem. What I have learned to admire and respect about Don and Marie is their openness to suggestion and willingness to rectify any problems that should occur. I now own two horses that board at Cartee, and they have received excellent care. I highly recommend Cartee Equestrian Center for both beginners and advanced riders and for anyone who is looking for a safe and caring barn to board their horse.

I have been a customer at Cartee for approximately 5 years. My daughter started taking lessons there after trying 2 other facilities that were just not to our liking. We eventually became horse owners and we could not be happier. Our horse gets excellent care. Plus my daughter is an accomplished rider. She learned more at Cartee in 6 months than she did at a facility where she rode for a year. Plus, my daughter has learned a lot from the Cartees about horse care and management. The children there learn what is involved in taking care of a horse and the responsibility that goes along with it. The Cartees made it possible for my daughter's dream to come true of having her own horse. They have always been there for my daughter and me. They stayed with me at a horse show late one night (and they had to be up early for classes at the show the next morning) so the vet could come and check my daughter's horse when we thought she was colicking. They did not have to do that. They are truly caring people - they care about the horses and their students.

The lesson plan is great as well. They are very accomodating to their customers and always work with you if you cannot get there on time or have to make up a lesson. You get more than your money's worth taking lessons there. The time they spend with their students is well over an hour.

With the other person mentioning ticks - that comes with the territory. Ticks are parasites and are a part of life. You can get ticks from walking in your own back yard. You just have to use common sense and always check yourself for ticks during the summer season. If you are going to a place where you might be exposed to ticks - then you spray on Deet or Off.

I just want to comment that the Cartees are great people and we would never go anywhere else. They are like my family as are the other people that ride at the barn. I have made many great friends there.

Contrary to the other poster who does not feel the trainer is qualified to teach, I feel the lesson program is pretty sound. The trainer knows what judges at shows look for and attempts to teach those concepts in his lessons. The only thing missing really is a master plan. Lessons from week to week seem to vary little and it might be nice to see each week's lesson devoted to a specific concept. Some other poster indicated that lessons arent limited to an hour, which is nice sometimes, but they also never start on time which is tough for parents on a schedule. Lately, a number of kids have acquired new horses which has disrupted the normal lesson program. The trainer encourages people to buy just off the track thoroughbreds who come into the lesson program wild and disruptive. I agree that if kids are serious about riding, they should have their own animal, but the trainer should first reprogram and retrain the horse, then bring them into the lessons so that lessons arent disrupted. So the training overall is pretty good, but the price is disorganization, green horse disruptions, no time schedule, and frequent cell phone interruptions. Oh, and if dressage is your chosen venue, a private coach would be a good idea as the training lessons are focuse purely on hunter jumper.

I can't really comment on boarding other than I know that of late there have been a number of horses relocated from the farm. Conditions at the barn itself vary from acceptable to deplorable depending on if there is any help or if some of the parents chip in and clean. A parent of one of the riders in the lessons also works part time as a grounds keeper at the farm, but does not keep up with the horse pastures meaning we have to wade through tall weeds to capture a horse to ride - a major tick concern.

I know my child likes it at Cartee, and that's want counts, just be prepared to accept things for the way they are.

Cartee Equestrian Center is a quality facility and the owners are as concerned with the well being of the horses as they are with the kids who frequent the facility on a daily basis. I have read the two negative comments on the site, and knowing who the individuals are that left the comments, I am left shaking my head. With any Good thing, there is always going to be those one or two people who like to stir problems and assume that the world is there to cater to them. Unfortunately when it doesn't, they strike out in revenge. I have been around Cartee Equestrian Center for the past six years as a customer, and can honestly recommend it as a quality facility dedicated to children, adults and horses.

We are all familiar with the term "barn jumpers" and what it means. The individuals leaving the malicious feedback are simply disgruntled individuals looking for revenge. Nothing more, Nothing Less. Please keep this in mind while reading their comments. Thank You for taking the time to read my comments. Have a blessed day!!

I have posted here before. My identity is easily known by anyone who is part of the Cartee farm "family." I am breaking my own rule and posting in response to a specific review written by JustThereAgain.

First, some business basics. When you board a horse, you have a choice: board in the field for one price, or board in the barn for about 2.5 times the pasture price. You make a decision about the type and level of care and service you want for your horse. Its like buying a plane ticket. If you want extra service, you buy a first class ticket. People who pay $100 for a plane ticket and then complain that someone that paid $1000 for it got a better meal need to understand that principle.

Now, about pasture care. I have one horse in the barn and another in the field. My horse shares a pasture with 4 other horses. I know personally that all this winter there have been up to 6 giant rolls of hay per week fed to the horses in that pasture. My horse is so "emaciated" that we all kid on lesson day that the horses must have all magically become pregnant. I would challenge the poster to go to the open market and find out what the price of a roll of hay is, and do the math compared to what they are paying in board. I also would ask them where they were recently when it was 18 degrees outside and the barn had been closed for the night, and Don Cartee was putting on 5 winter coats to go out to all the fields with hundreds of pounds of grain to feed to all the animals. Every outdoor horse on the farm was fed grain on those cold nights, at no extra charge.

I also ask where this person is when Don, Marie, and other volunteers like me are up for 36 hours straight hauling horses to horse shows and caring for animals when the fees that are being charged break down to about 50 cents an hour. The Cartees are in this as a labor of love for children and their parents who want to be more than a "customer".

Can we please use this board for facts?

Let me say one thing about unhappy people - When you are unhappy with your ownself and your life, then you want everyone else unhappy and miserable around you........! We have been at Cartee for a year now and we "ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT There!" I am spoiled and my kids are spoiled and we would not think about going anywhere else with our horses. Everybody there treats each other as family and they treat each others horse as it would be their own. Nobody with a heart says or complains about anyone or anything that goes on there. All of the horses there are well cared for. There are horses that are brought to the farm that are considered "Rescue Horses" that are then well cared for, fed, Watered and loved. Individuals that are trained at the farm are all Winners when they attend shows. I'll say someting about lessons - People come from other training facilites that are not happy wher they have been, and they stay at Cartee. Cartee is a winning facility with all of the expertise that they share with others. There are no whiners or complainers there and I don't appreciate the people out there in the world that are sick in their own life that want to make others miserable!
Thanks and I am off my soap box - See ya later!

I have boarded my horses at Cartee for three years and can honestly say that i love it here. My horses are happy and healthy. The people here are very friendly and helpful, and good care has never been an issue. I am especially thankful for the moultiple riding arenas inculding an indoor, which i must say is mighty useful when winter comes along!
