While Master Ko is a Grand Master and his instruction is as close to perfection as you can get, membership is a major area of weakness for the school. Always be weary of a martial arts school that requires signing a contract, which USTC definitely does. They preach that it teaches "dedication" and "determination", when all it does is bind you to a contract and a 3 year plan you can't fulfill because of unforseen circumstances. If you do choose to sign the contract, try negotiating the terms, write them in in the margins, giving yourself a window to cancel the contract if an unforeseen problem arises, or if you move. If he is unwilling to negotiate the terms, take your business elsewhere. He is in a competative business, and will more than likely take your negotiations, over losing a potential student. This is not the only martial arts school in the area, and there are others in the area that do not even require a contract.

Other than that issue, it is an excellent school. All the instructors are well trained, and very well-skilled. Master Ko is a genuine, straight-from S. Korea, grand master.... pretty much born with a little black-belt on. You can't get better instruction than from him or his team.

It is expensive. $5K+ just for a 3 year black belt PLAN, and that does not include price of the black-belt itself or any degrees. All testing, uniforms, gear, and individual belts are additional hidden costs they don't tell you when you sign up. Everything aside, your 1st degree black-belt will cost $450.00. If you choose to obtain more than one degree, set aside $500.00 for 10 testing sessions, plus $450.00 for your next degree. That's the drill for each degree from 1st degree on.

If your kid just wants to learn a "martial art", take them to a no-contract, cheap do-jang that'll teach them to throw their legs around. That's all they learn anyway, and they'll probably wind up wanting to quit after a few months.
