If you are an interracial couple DO NOT GO HERE. It wouldn't surprise me if you were to research the owner you will see that this person has no or very little formal education. This place is ran by completely uneducated bunch of redneck

A great meeting place before or after the game. The regulars are irregular but we always have fun. Food is really good and the service is often times good. Great place to meet up on the weekend if you are in town.

Service terrible and inconsistant, never the same bartendender so not very personalized. I heard there is a very high turnover with staff. The managers seem to be outside smoking all the time, very offputting. Many other bars in the area

First off, great interior design - modern, but comfortable pub-like environment. Also, its huge. Saturday night, the downstairs was completely different than the lo-key vibe upstairs....wander down the stairs and its Karaoke time!!! It was probably the best karaoke we've experienced in new york. Everyone was having a blast, and the drinks were so affordable - seriously $20 for 3 drinks in NY is unheard of.This was one of the greatest evenings we've had in a long time! Worth at least passing through for a once-over if you're in the area. You might end up staying for the fun :). Oh yeah, the food, particularly the sweet potato fries, are HUGE, cheap and fantastic!!!!!

Well- ive been here twice, both times on a saturday night. First time, a large party. We all ate and everyone thought the food was mediocre at best, dry chicken, tasteless dry burgers, crappy fries. Waitress was m.i.a. for most of evening. Stayed for karaoke. Had a blast, DJ Tony is very nice and well, really cute lol. Came back this past saturday. Had some oysters, those were fine. BUT at the end of the night, the bouncer was like okay u have to go upstairs. We asked for our check and didnt get it. Bouncer comes over with a "I told u to f$$$$$$$ leave" stance and were like, um can we pay??? I see now why there are so many complaints about the staff and bouncers!

THE GOOD: Big space, near Penn Station.

THE BAD : This bar is owned by the folks who own Amity Hall.

THE UGLY: The professionalism of the management. WATCH YOUR BILL!!! Had a good time at Amity Hall (sister bar to Stout) on my bday and noticed by bill was about 3X what it should have been. Didn't make a stink about it at the time because i didn't want to make a scene at my own party. Figured I'll just get it straightened out after the fact with the manger / owner, right? Wrong! The owner couldn't have been more indifferent about the discrepancy when claiming they would get on it and call me back. Went a week without hearing from her. She had no problem telling me i was "sh*t faced" (which i wasn't) and basically letting me know my concerns were meaningless to her. Funny bc they weren't meaningless to me. She loved to tell me how they run 8 different locations and practically making me feel about 1 inch tall because my dispute was a big nothing to her in a the grand scheme of things for their business. Wow, great bedside manner to a customer.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't be polite and figure out the dispute later because they won't be polite and respectful to you.

Just steps from Herald Square, this seems like the perfect little spot for an hour lunch with a co-worker or friend in town. Considering the location, their lunch prices are not outrageous. I had a salad with beets and I can't remember what else but it was so yummy and I could not finish it - large portions.

The waitress checked on us several times as we dined and reminisced about the past couple of months.

I have been here before for an after-work happy hour and it was delightful. The hostess accomodated our request to have a table for 5 after it was originally just my fiance and I. We ordered craft beers and had some appetizers while watching one of their large, really large screen TVs. With multiple floors and lots of seating, I'd say this is an ideal sit down dinner restaurant for passers by and locals looking for a chill place to eat, drink and watch some sports!

A bunch of my friends and I went here lastnight before and after the Tom Petty concert, we got a table right away on the balcony. Really cool considering there were 10 of us! We ordered a bunch of pizzas and some appetizers which came out really quickly. The spinach and artichoke dip was particularly good big chunks of artichoke and a good cheese flavor, not like the soupy version i've had other places. The pizzas were super thin crust, and had some great toppings- we even tried a Rueben pizza! The service was outstanding, very quick and attentive... it was a really great experience...and we even got to watch a Tom Petty dvd there :)

A gem of a restaurant. I work in the area and have visitied Stout on several occassions. Great specials on the menu daily. The only thing that exceeds the food is the wait and management staff. Courteous and professional. A waitress, Kim, was exceptional. I inquired recently about private parties. Stout has a room downstairs that is perfect for such an event. Was given a tour of the room by one of the managers. Don't know her name. Blond haired woman with an Irish accent. She was wonderful and gave a brilliant tour! Thank you Stout. Will recommend you to friends and co-workers.

Was meeting a bunch of friends on Saturday for the USA game. I was runing late, had not been to Stout before would of prefered to watch it in my local pub. Got in the door and was greeted right away by an Irish lady (love the accent) who walked me in the direction of my friends reservation. The place was already buzzing with USA and England fans and tv"s everywhere. The server was also very friendly and quick concidering the place was packed. I ordered a Breakfast wrap which was yummy. I was not drinking that day but was impressed by there very large beer selection. Overall I had a great time and will be back again.

I stopped by here last week on the way to Penn (and missed 2 trains because I stayed so long!!) My friend and I wanted to grab a bite before catching a train. We were sat upstairs so we could watch the baseball AND the NBA playoffs. Someone sitting nearby requested the hockey on another tv so we were able to watch ALL 3. We ate a couple of burgers i had the shrimp and crabmeat burger-mmm-you NEED to try this one! My buddy ate a regular burger and our waitress suggested some toppings, I think he had bleu cheese and sauteed onions, he ate every last bit so it must have been good. They had a great selection of beers and stouts. Our waitress was very sweet and even let us try 2 different beers before deciding. We hung out for a couple of hours and had a quick beer down at the bar before heading out. All in all it was a very pleasant experience, I just couldnt believe this place had been here 5 yrs and I hadnt been before!

I personally like the convenient location when meeting for a game/concert or if friends are coming from/going to NJ. It might not be the best as a stop when going out for the night (since I dont go out in this area ever/often).
While the bar area can get packed before events, you can usually get table service from a pack of quick & friendly servers.
I think the food is excellent, in particular the pizza is tasty.
The beer selection is wide and will meet most tastes.
The prices on shots are reasonable and the bartenders didn't mind making strange shots we requested.
I havent watched many games there, but there are TV's all over the place and I imagine it would be a good place to watch.

The service at this bar puts everywhere else to shame. Everyone is really on top of managing customers, and the food is amazing. Not to mention the full selection of stouts, great location right near MSG, and you've got yourself an MVP bar.

The bar itself obviously have a large following, but this will slim down seriously if they continue to have people working there with such disrespect for paying customers and choose to make everyone aware of their job titles by making examples of innocent people and war veterans. It is not a privilege for me to go to a bar. In this economy it is a privilege for them to have my patronage. Unfortunately they have now lost that. I even got a call back from the owner and she completely endorsed her managers behavior through denying that her manager was wrong. Check the film again! He demanded first and yelled second and then had to show me how powerful he was by unsuccessfully trying to get me to leave. We don't all look alike. There's no point in lying or denying. All I know is you endorse his behavior. Shame on you. Perhaps it was a case of profiling.

I usually go to stout and enjoy a few beers after work, As soon as you walk in you feel relaxed. They have tons of TVs going with all the games on. its a great place to just chill out after a long day at work. The proximity to Penn station is perfect to enjoy myself before getting on a train to head home. With hockey going on at Madison Square Garden now and basketball coming soon who knows if I'll ever leave. The bartenders are great with helping you choose from the many types of beers. Its always buzzing but not too busy. All in all, great place to mingle or just to relax and have a couple cold ones!

Went last night with a couple of friends. The place was deserted, but it was early on a Monday night. We ordered one pint each, and talked among ourselves. Then one of my friends wanted to ask a question of the bartender, he replied 'It depends on if its a sh*t question.' She paused, then continued on that she was curious about a vodka they had behind the bar. He walked away, said 'That's a sh*t question.' So we went back to talking among ourselves. But before leaving (after finishing our one pint) my other friend decided that we'd tell the other bartender about the strange exchange -- and before we know it the creep is stalking down the bar to confront us and go more than a little nuts! It was aggressive and strange -- you'd think he'd just say he was joking and didn't mean anything, please come back sometime and no hard feelings, etc. We'll never go back. I see some of these other reviews refer to similarly aggressive incidents -- so maybe he's been around a while. It looked like a great place! Bummer that there's a such a creep behind the bar. IIn retrospect I wish we'd pulled our tip back before leaving, but we're nice people, and didn't even think of it.

Went to Karaoke for the first time this past Saturday and the vibe in Stout is great. Everyone really gets into it and I mean everyone, bartenders, servers and what seemed to be a regular Saturday night crew. DJ Tony is really nice. No one seems to be embarrassed and everyone gets cheered and clapped for. Really Good Time!

I have been to Stout quite a few times and the food and draft beer is very good, and so is the service. Well, today during lunch, I had a bad experience. While I was drinking my beer and waiting for my food, this anorexic looking, poor excuse for a manager approaches me with a plain white t-shirt and informs me that I have to cover up, no sleeveless shirts. I've dressed like that at Stout several times there before, and there was never a problem. And I was sitting at the bar, it wasn't like I was at a table, and it wasn't crowded. It's a double standard if us guys can't dress like that and the ladies can. I would dress differently in a fancier place, but Stout has always been a casual place. She needs to get a life. I hope the owner is reading this and if he is, please straighten out your manager or hire a new one or you're going to lose a lot of business. They've already lost mine.

Just wanted to drop a line saying what a great time I had at Stout. I don't usually take time to write reviews but the staff were so friendly and payed attention to the smallest details that it really made our party special. From my first call to Stout to book my party I was put at ease, this was especially important to me because it was my fiancees 30th birthday. I would definitely plan another event at Stout they were so helpful and made my party a success from beginning to end. They made me look really good in front of my family and friends to boot.
Thanks Stout

I had a birthday party for 2 people one night (March 27 and our table had @12 people. We reserved one for 10 because we weren't sure who would show up or cancel. When we got there, the hostess upstairs told us that 8 people had to show up. Then, when we were told to go to our table downstairs, the hostess downstairs questioned us because we were suppose to have 9 people. She was the real rude one.
Once all that was settled, the hostess kept telling us that more chairs could not be added until the additoinal people showed up. This was not explained in a nice manner but in a condescending way. Rude. Everyone thought these people were all rude. Fortunately, our server was fine and she did a good job getting to everyone their food and drinks.
I actually really like this place because when I go to the bar with my coworkers after work, they are great. Also, the pints are good. I know Irish pubs and as someone who once opened a pub, I would restructure their seating policy and get a friendlier host staff.

We went to Stout on Tuesday 03/31 and I couldn't believe what happened to this place! The first waitress didn't know much what she was selling and looked like she had serious headache. The other one that took our table after an hour was much better - helpfull and nice. It didn't help our night though. They said they were closing (with no last call!) when my friend realized he forgot his wallet (yes, they let him in with no I.D. - he's 22). I had not enough cash to help him out and he had to wait for somebody to bring him money. I understand it can be upsetting for the service, but what they did to us was unbelievable. The waitress called a manager. This fatty guy who didn't even want to introduce himself came to the table with security, asked me if I paid then took my beer away (!!!) and told me to leave. WHY?! I have no idea. I didn't do anything and he didn't give me any explanation. I would never expect to be treated this way in Stout - a place I had good memories with. For me as a bar manager that was the most unprofessional and embarrassing way of treating customers I've seen so far in my life.
Also, I just saw their advertising. It's a lie. They don't have the largest beer selection in NY.

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

.

AC so high, freezing (IN winter), poor food, Legends is much, much better , just a couple of blocks away. Really poor.

Have eaten at Stout twice before Knicks games...the first time I had a burger and a few beers, service was terrible and I saw a few furry critters running around. Like the idiot I am, I went back this past Wednesday (the guys I was with insisted), I had a couple of beers and the fish & chips and have been throwing up hourly since (my doc has since put me on antibiotics). I ate with four other people, most were fine, except one who has also had a bit of an upset stomach too (we shared an appetizer, so maybe that did it).

GROSS! DO NOT GO TO STOUT! Many better places near MSG like the Triple Crown or Mustangs.

I have been going to stout on and off ever since it opened. Last night, I had a run-in with what appeared to be a manager/supervisor and I have never been treated so rudely in all my nights out. This manager came up to me and for no reason insulted me, taking exception to what I was wearing. Now this was completely unprovoked, I had done nothing but drink a beer or two and talk with my circle of friends. I had not approached him or talked to this manager, he just came by and insulted me. I was so shocked that I did not know how to respond and he walked away.

A few minutes later, he came back in my area and I was starting at him in disbelief. As a paying customer, I did not expect to be insulted for no reason. He came up to me again and asked me why I was staring at him and what my problem was. I said the only problem I had was that I couldn't drink my beer fast enough to get away from him and the bar. I left as soon as I was finished with my drink.

I would admit if I had done anything to provoke this, but in this case I had done absolutely nothing to be treated this way. To insult paying customers and try to pick a fight with a patron for no reason is completely unacceptable. I would strongly advise not going to stout. But if you do say hi for me to the overweight, balding manager with no life.

Pros: nothing good enough to make me go back

Cons: people working there are lowlifes

If you are goint to an event at MSG, you may want to check out Stout. It is right down the street from the main entrance of Penn Station. When the event is a concert, they place the music of that artist. It can get packed, but it is such a huge place (large bar!) that they wait is usually not too long. Good food, drinks, atmosphere.

This is a decent bar a block away from Penn Station. It's huge but if there is an event at MSG it gets packed. They have a pretty nice menu for a bar and things like the personal pizza and the salads are quite good. Beats the Blarney Stone!

i have been to stout several times before but this summer there were irish waitresses working there.i got chatting to two of them, one from the west of ireland and one from the north west!they made eating there alot more enjoyable as they were very friendly but more importantly they didn't pester us every few mins trying to push for a bigger tip!usually you can't enjoy your meal/drink there if you have an american waitress!the service(by the irish waitresses)was excellent.trust me a relaxed and easy going attitude goes down alot better than a persistantly pushy one!food is decent and great variety of beers!only downfall....they need to hire more irish staff!

I've been to Stout several times before for a meal. Because of the great location I wanted to host a football watch party at this venue for about 20-30 people, nothing formal. I was informed about private rooms but I did nto desire that. I was told that there was an area available for reservation but it would have to be confirmed with the party planner.

I was then informed that this "available" area could not be reserved due to happy hour (after I was told there was no happy hour). If I wanted to reserve that small bar space in the back it would be a $2500 bar guarantee. That means my guests would have to spend about $100 for bar food on a random night?

My take, they probably didn't want our business because that is a great way to deter a potential party. Maybe you must be Irish to be accepted there...

Needless to say, I won't go back there for anything.

I love this place. The food is excellent. Mostly I have had burgers here. You have to order the special dips for the fries. No, they probably aren't good for your heart or waist line, but they have to be good for the soul! The drinks are just fine at average NYC prices. The atmosphere is that of a cute irish pub. This place is usually packed which makes the service spotty but it is worth it!

This one is huge !. I've been to a lot of Irish Pubs around the world (including Ireland) this is the biggest I've ever seen and one of the best too. The food was fantastic, I had a Shepherds Pie which was a variation of the usual pub fare here in NY. The Stout (4 to choose from) was served up in a 20oz proper pint glass and went down smooth, I'll be back often.

I only chose this place, because it was reasonably priced and they advertised that they serve brunch. We get there and there is no brunch, for that matter there is barely a menu (not that many options). I asked a server about the brunch and she pointed to the one thing on the menu, which was called tradiditonal breakfast- talking about thst is our brunch menu. I was not cool with that. The service was not all that great. The food was good. The deocr was cool.

With a dcor that will transport you to a pub in Ireland, Stout is a beer valley which houses exclusive malts. This high ceilinged bar, sports an extensive beer collection and has varied stouts like dry, imperial, oatmeal and sweet. They have the absolute best fish and chips! Prices are great and the service make you feel right at home.

This Bar I thought was a nice place during the day when I stopped in. I went back one night with my girlfriend and the THUGS they hire towatch the door really over do it with the customers. I saw one THUG actually threaten a guy with his girlfriend who took a little long getting her ID from her bag. STAY AWAY PLENTY OF NICE BARS DOWN THE BLOCK ON 8TH AVENUE

I'm honestly surprised by all the bad reviews on here! I've only been here a handful of times since a few friends independently mentioned it a month ago, but the atmosphere is nice - it looks pretty right when you walk in, and although it's HUGE and can be wayyy too loud in some places, there are quiet spots to be found. The food is great, if a little basic (burgers, fries, typical pub food but of higher quality than most), and while some of the waitresses have seemed a tad impatient or stressed on busy nights, I've never had attitude problems from anyone, never had to wait excessively long for anything, and the bathrooms were really clean when I was in them. It almost makes me wonder if some other reviewers are talking about the same place! My only complaints are that the hostess has been nowhere to be found twice when I came in for lunch and I was left ignored in the front for at least 5 minutes while a line built up. Also, on one of my visits, a lady (I think the manager?) came over to our table and made my husband and I feel very pressured to either buy something else or finish our meal, even though it wasn't busy. She took away our plates, which were still stacked with fries, and it wasn't until our server came back to the table that we even figured out who she was. Either way, the food and beer selection are great, and I'd sooner come here for a burger and fries than Jackson Hole or pretty much any Diner in the city. Other things to try are: Spinach and Cheese dip, Sweet Potato Fries, and Veggie Burgers. Come at less busy times and the waitresses are usually nice and upbeat too =)

Been to this bar many times and recently have had problems with thug bouncers that work at this "Irish Pub". This place is not a club, so I'm not sure why they have these discouraging people working who are looking for a fight with its customers. Went there to celebrate a birthday and ended up almost getting in a fight with Bubba the Boneheaded Bouncer. Was greeted with a Goodnight the moment I stepped to the door to show my ID. This is some way to greet the people ready to spend money and who come back to the bar all the time. Then threatened me and said "lets go son, you want to throwdown". Well never again. Maybe they should think twice about these people working at your bar before a law suit gets in their hands. Also saw bouncers giving people from the parade problems for no reason on Scotland Week.

I had lunch here and though it was nice to walk in and see a big bar and be greated by a smiling host, it took such a long time to take our order that the manager came to take it and it was not busy. The service at the table was just not good. However this is not such a big deal if the food was good but it was not. It looked good on the plate and was presented well but it tasted just gross. Such a shame. The bathroom was downstairs and smelled pretty bad and was not in good shape at all for a new location.

I never knew this site existed, until i was told about a review. I am a regular bar patron at Stout and there service and hospitalty are great. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but as long as it is in good faith and the truth and not an attempt to wreck the name of a damn good establishment. Im offended as if I were bar management at Stout. I have seen these boys work, sometimes they can be exagerated, but if you are under age its a hard time to get in. If you do make it in and you feel you were bamboozled in some way, tell management at that moment. Dont try to ruin the name of a great pub. Its not fair to the men and women who worked hard to open this business. This is for all GENUINE establishments. Since this is a review if you love seafood the steamed mussels are a must have.

What a Blast!!! The energy of this place is amazing. I thought I was silly going there for St. Paddy's Day but WOW was it fun. I learned different ways to have 'Stout' and it went well with everything I ate....and I ate everything. The calamari, sweet potato fries, mini-burgers and pizza were the best! It made my week. I'm still smiling. The Staff really has a warm (Irish?) way about them - even though it was hopping. I'm rounding up my friends to come back soon - not waiting for St. Pat's to celebrate.

Went to Stout over the weekend with a relative who was in town from Florida. The bouncer at the door said that his ID was fake and took it away. He told us all of this "official florida license" information that I guess was to make him sound educated in the field of Florida ID's and convince us that there was something wrong with the ID. But the fact is, the license was real. Legitimate ID - born in 1984. (We had it scanned at the next bar we went to that night). In any case - the bouncer's were kind enough to give the ID back for $40. Which we reluctantly paid as this was a real ID - and it was needed to fly back to Florida the next day. A completely pathetic way to run a business. Can't tell you if the atmosphere or food were anything different than the other hundred's of bar's in the city - but I can say the door scam was pretty low. Almost worth it though, for the entertainment of it all.
My review is not to stop anyone from going there - but will hopefully be read by Stout management, as an establishment of any class would not need their bouncers to scam customers out of pocket change - and to let anyone from out of town know that my guess is that they do this all of the time. So you may want to go to another spot that doesn't have desperate bouncers that taint the establishment's image.

Pros: Mini Burgers and Beer

Cons: Busy

.

There are plenty of draws to this bar: the number of TVs, the quality of beer available, and the energy in the place. The problem is that it can get too crowded, and the bartenders can be flat-out rude, depending on how busy the evening. For example, one evening I went and dropped $150, but got served 2 rounds on the house. The next time I went back, I got served food without utensils or napkins. When I went to the bar to get a refill of soda for my wife, I was lectured on how the bar only serves people sitting at the bar. By the way, she was 5 months pregnant and just wanted to wash down her overcooked burger!

If you're looking to grab a beer during a sporting event, this is a decent choice given the location near the Garden. Otherwise, drop your $$$ somewhere else.
