As a graduate of SVA, I would really like to root for it. However, it's like all university. There are the small amount of AMAZING professors (Ed Bowes - just to name one) who stand out as more than just teachers. However, there are also many struggling, bitter artists/teachers who also don't spend enough time guideing a young artist. The screenwriting dept. is small and could use a little more focus on their curriculm. The electives (ie. Modern Revolution (GREAT teacher!!); Modern Short Story; Art, Ethics & Moral) are great additions to the school. Since I've graduated, the school has become more of a university - adding a new cafe/lounge and a new dorm.

PROS: Free spirited, similar teachers as NYU & Columbia
CONS: Lack of organization

An excellent school for those with artistic talent that are willing to go the extra mile to succeed. Not for the student who wants to be babysat by the teacher. The classes here are taught by professionals in the industry who have a lot to give but may not necessarily know how to teach in the best possible way. If you work with the instructor, you will be able to get more than you could dream in knowledge and experience. If you expect it to be handed to you, you will get nothing.

SVA has a great curriculum with amazing professors and great facilities.

Now, my teenage son has attended Summer classes there and not only is the school still going strong, it's added so many more programs as well as state of the art labs, studios, and equipment.

A great place to get a higher education, continue ed or just visit its many art galleries.

PROS: This is a great institution
CONS: Tuition is a little on the expensive side
