Hopefully you are readying this before purchasing a car from Riverside. The Salinardi's have a long history of scamming their customers. They sit behind the law as the lie to you and tell you their cars are in perfect shape. Promises and promises that the cars is great...they will get you to sign AS IS, then your new car will break down. This same scam has been done to many many people. Riverside Motorcars has been at 3 locations in the last few years, because NO ONE wants them in their town.

If you're thinking about buying a used vehicle from Joseph or Christian Salinardi, think again, because you'll be headed for a world of hurt. My daughter's first car buying experience turned from joy to nightmare as Riverside Motors systematically misled, stalled and outright lied to us (I was a co-signer on the purchase and loan). It was only through nearly three weeks of DMV complaints, calls to the Connecticut Attorney General's office, and ultimately the threat of being further exposed for as the crooks they are, that the Salinardi's finally agreed to refund the purchase price of a used car that LITERALLY broke down a few miles down the road after we signed all the paperwork finalizing the deal. What first appeared to be a good faith effort on their part to fix it, was actually part of a pattern we discovered too late by "googling" them only to discover they had a history of successfully ripping off unsuspecting customers in part by stalling their victims with an endless series of phony stories. I'm usually pretty good at spotting a BS artist, but Joe Salinardi is VERY good at looking you straight in the eye while he fabricates a story about how he's taking care of you. I can't say the same for his son Christian, because in hindsight, I can't recall a single time when he actually looked me in the eye.

I could go on, but here's a web page with a collection of complaint links, including a WFSB I-Team investigative report of their history of scams and DMV violations: http://ct-used-auto-complaints.aboutprogress.com/salinardi/riverside-motorcars/

If you are in the unfortunate position of having already begun doing business with them and are having trouble, the first thing you should do is complete the Connecticut DMV K-35 Dealer Complaint Form, fax it with attached page(s) detailing your issues with them and let the Salinardi's know you're in the process of doing that. The form is available here: http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=818&q=245030

When they stop returning your phone calls (and they will) the only way to get a message through to them may be to use the web form on the website at: http://www.riversidemotorcars.com/Dealer-Websites/Riverside-Motorcars/contactus.aspx

These guys completely rip customers off. Any good reviews are just a fluke. Lost many thousands, and I know cars well. I thought I could judge the car by what I saw, but they actually covered up the issues. Completely unwilling to help

My wife and I purchased a beautiful Honda last week. It was as described, cleaned prior to delivery, and we were happy with the transaction. Transferring my old registration on location was the best part (as I'm sure I'm not the only one who does not find hours at the DMV entertaining). All in all, a positive experience. Will post a follow up in 6 months or so, when I have more time with the vehicle.

A few years ago a friend of my daughters, who is a military wife and mother, her husband was stationed overseas at the time, bought a car from them. paid $3100 for the car but they claimed it was an "as is" car. However the threshold was $3000 of course! First mistake on Riverside part. It was a saab wagon. Well 1 week after she bought the car she became stuck in New Haven at the train station with her 6 month old son, in Dec in single digit weather, she called the number and someone claiming to be Steve answered the phone, she asked if he could send her a tow truck, he stated that it was her problem, he was spending time with his family and is NOT going anywhere on a Friday night. The next day they did send a flat bed out to get the car, she had to find her own ride home to BF. They looked at the car and told her it was the radiator hose, and fixed it as a "favor" A few days later her power window was stuck in the half way position, "JOE" yelled at her and asked what was she doing putting the window down in the winter. WHAT? A few days after that, I saw her car stuck on the side of 84 on my way home from work. A good samaritan called AAA for her and had the car towed to my home. At THIS point I got involved. I called the police to escort me to speak with "Joe" I confronted him about the issues. She had the car a TOTAL of 3 weeks and 2 major issues, 1 minor. "Joe" laughed when I asked who Steve was, he said there is no Steve that works here. The girl who bought the car called the number that she called each time. Low and Behold! It was "JOE'S phone!!!! I then asked if they do Carfax reports. They only added that to their website a WEEK after I mentioned it, Also Certified Mechanics was added to their site after I inquired on that. I demanded that they return ALL of her money and take the piece of crap they sold her. They took the car back, HOWEVER it took nearly 4 months for her to get her money back!

I bought a car from them in 2007 which was great, so I went back in 2009. WHAT A MISTAKE! I bought a car that was 2500 dollars, so it was sold "as is" as they claim and they sit behind the CT law that "as is" they are not responsible for anything. 3 days after buying car exhaust fell off, I called an they told me to take it to a place in Waterbury, which had repaired exhaust prior to Riverside selling me the car. I then had to take it back to Riverside because they "forgot to test for emissions", I got a lecture from Joe(the worst business man ever) that they are really not responsible for any car under 3000 bucks and I should consider myself lucky for them helping me. After 3000 miles of driving I had the brakes go...another 350 I had to pay the local Mobil which I have going to for 13 years and is right down the street from riverside. They told me that Riverside should have known that the brakes were bad. I contacted Joe and was told I am a bitter and nasty person and taking it out on Riverside that NO ONE covers brakes. I responded that after 3000 miles I should have been informed that the brakes needed replacement. He told me " "good luck to you and your family". and that was it. A disgusting place to buy a car and joe is a useless person. NEVER BUY FROM THEM!!!

My elderly parents needed a newer car than the one they were driving. Nothing fancy, basic transportation was all. They had me go with them looking at Riverside Motor Cars. I am so happy they found this place. They were given a very fair deal, and excellent trade in allowance for a marginal car, and were treated with the respect and uprightness they deserved. I'll but my next used car here because I think this place is morally sound.
