While the girls went shopping downtown, the guys made the rounds of the surplus and outlet stores. When we met up for lunch, they told us about all the good buys they'd seen. We girls made them take us back there. An amazing selection!

We live on the Canadian west coast & my daughter was going to school in Columbia for a year. I searched for online stores to order inexpensive items for her apartment. I found Overstock Outlet & I was impressed with the prices for second hand furniture. The bed mattress was new & only cost $160. They also had a delivery price of $49 flat rate fee for Baltimore residents.

I emailed the store to find out what the delivery fee would be for Howard County & they said since she was a student the delivery would be $49 instead of $59. I was very impressed with the quick replies to my emails & the customer service when I ordered the items by phone was spectacular. The nice guy in the emails suggested I order 3 days in advance & I could choose delivery times of 12-4 or 4-8. We chose 4-8 because the plane would land around noon.

Imagine arriving in a new city after 18 hours of travel time & air flight delays & you go to an empty apartment expecting a delivery between 4-8. There is no TV to watch, no food, no soap for a shower, nothing to do but sit & wait for a delivery. At around 7:30, a call to the store & they claimed the truck was 10 minutes away. The store closes at 8pm so there was noone to ask where the truck was at 8:30. She waited for the delivery until 9pm. Then she had to rush out to get something to eat. She spent the night trying to sleep on the floor.

The next morning she called & was told the items are third on the delivery list & the delivery truck leaves at noon. They say they will call when they are on the way. 5pm & no delivery so she ran out for another bite. A roommate stays at the apartment & when my daughter comes back, the items were delivered but one item is missing.

Here I am in Canada, getting text messages from my daughter letting me know what was happening. She had to use her Canadian cell phone to call the Outlet store numerous times at almost $2 min (& long waits). So I called twice from Canada (5 cents a min) to find out where the delivery truck was. They said the delivery man would call my daughter's cell & they didn't.

Why couldn't they have told the truth & said they wouldn't be there for 5 hours instead of saying they were 10 minutes away & then not show up.

I would recommend the store for good deals but do not have your items delivered. The stress & headaches are not worth it. Also, the money you lose in missing items & phone calls is another negative.

Update: The bed is really nice & comfortable, the dresser is a solid piece of old furniture, my daughter loves it. Some of the handles are falling off but that's easy to fix.
Update: They've reimbursed me for the missing furniture. Yea!
