Awful place. Inept, rude, uneducated management. Personal trainers are pathetic; more like glorified clipboard holders. The worst of the bunch is Brian Brown (yes, the guy who has an inferiority complex and walks around with his chest artificially pushed out and his yellow shoes and Grateful Dead tattoo on his shoulder)... Don't forget about the fact that Big Vanilla was SUED several years back for sexual harassment (to blame is Chuck Hall, the Executive Director). The case was eventually settled for a $161,000 payout to the plaintiffs (Google it). Do you want to patronize a gym where the individual responsible for the sexual harassment IS STILL EMPLOYED AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR???? AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

The gym is huge and well-equipped, but unfortunately the ownership/management is just hiding behind all the fancy workout equipment. The front desk folks and the trainers are nice enough, but the membership is a pyramid scheme and you'll be paying anywhere from $60 to $0 a month depending on how many people you refer to the gym. When I went to just check the gym out, I was pressured to take the membership. I was put off by this, but the gym did seem to fit all my needs so I took it. I was told it was a 2 year contract, which I uncomfortably accepted, but was given no alternative. Come to find out later they DO offer contracts of shorter time periods, but they implied otherwise to me. Sneaky. 1 year and some months later, I knew that my membership was going to expire soon, and feeling jaded by this place already, I decided to cover my butt and call to make sure it didn't automatically renew. I emailed, got no response. I called, and the front desk girl seemed really nervous and confused on the phone. She told me I would have to mail a letter to cancel my account, which would otherwise renew that very week. I asked if I could send an email, and she said "umm... I think so, yes." I sent the email, and got no confirmation. The next week I had a charge from Big Vanilla on my bank account. Assuming no one got the email, I called again. The front desk person transferred me to the billing department. The billing lady was rude and dismissive, and said I'd have to speak to the membership manager directly. I called the front desk AGAIN, and was told he was in a meeting and I'd have to leave a voicemail. I left the voicemail and didn't get a response, so the next evening I sent a long email detailing my predicament and expressing my frustration. I got back a litany of excuses and a promise that he'd call me back this afternoon. He never called and never sent an email. I sent another email, never got a response.

Once they get your money, all customer service goes out the window. These folks are greedy and conniving, and you're best to stay away.

Love Big Vanilla, clean. lots of group fitness schedule times. Check $$ though, I know people paying everything from $29 a month to $75 a month for the same plan.
