I love taking Pilates at Ellie Herman. Every other time I've tried to exercise, I've abandoned the regimen after a week or two. That adds up to a lot of gym memberships gone bad over the years... Well, I'm sticking with it this time and that says a lot!! The instructors are low-key and really nice, but EXTREMELY knowledgeable.

I'd been doing Pilates for years - or so I thought! Learn how to do what's best for your body at Ellie Herman. Rachel, Tracie, Jen, Ariel, Denise, Nicole, on and on - all great teachers! Go.

I have gone to several Pilates studios in the past and have always left dissatisfied. I went to Ellie Herman's because I had been dealing with a lot pain from injuries that had not been helped by chiropractors, acupuncture or other healers. The instructors at Ellie Herman all seemed very knowledgeable and caring. Ellie herself is energetic, bright and simply wonderful. One instructor, Anna, pinpointed the reason and cause for my pain and outlined a plan to cure it. Within 3 months, Anna had achieved her goal. With her guidance, I have made my body stronger and pain free, because I am more aware of my movements. I strongly recommend this studio.

I was new to pilates, and have fallen in love with it through my experience at Ellie Herman. The instructors are all very good, informed, attentive and friendly; I've worked with Denise, Shabs, and Devona (there are others too). Each one has her own style, so try a couple of different classes until you find your fit. This may be the only place where you can use a reformer in a class setting since they have 4 of them. My husband and I take a class once a week and find it a great way to spend an hour together. More men need to try pilates!

Pros: Knowledgeable staff; reasonable rates

Cons: Peak class times may be sold out

Everyone here is very friendly, and always very personable. You start out with a beginner intake session with a trainer and then are able to join a class that suits your needs. I would strongly reccomend Tara, as she has really helped me progress quite quickly. Always feel great after going; a great way to unwind your body after a week of sitting in the office.

I immediately feel at home when I walk into the Park Slope studio. The trainers are all down to earth and fun. My teachers give me kind, attentive sessions that make me feel great when I am done. Pilates at EHS makes me feel in tune and in balance with my body. The focus on breathing helps me feel like I am cleaning out my system. It's the best thing I have done for my body. I honestly don't understand how I keep my weight down without doing cardio. Pilates really works.

Experienced teachers know what they are talking about. Very good for taking care of your body alignment in the right way. They give the right feedback. Devona is an excellent teacher! I have heard not all teachers are as good. There can be an "attitude" at this place.
They offer privates and classes. Still get individual attention in classes, because small classes. They help you to do the moves correctly, rather than allow you to do what you think is good for your body. Helpful suggestions. You can do a drop in a class even if you aren't registered- you can call the day of and see if they are openings for a class.
They need to have more Level 1 classes for beginners at convenient times for working people.
The owner, Ellie, can be a bit abrupt-- not a soothing, patient person, but she certainly knows her business and the craft, so I trade that for gentlesness. After all, this isn't yoga...
I would appreciate a more soothing, relaxing environment- it sometimes feels like an impersonal, too small gym, yet I still go.

Pros: small class size, new equipment, experienced, knowledgable teachers

Cons: busy, small space, not full privacy; pricey, a little snobby
