I would like to say that this organization has extremly caring and dedicated people that donate their time to help out birds that no one wants any longer. They take in birds that people, once the novelty of owing birds, realize that there is time and effort on their part give up. They also take in birds that have been warehoused, not fed properly, kept in closets, just plain ignored and forms of abuse. I had a Wonderful experience with them and would highly recommend them to anyone. I CANNOT and WILL NOT believe what you have written about them. No one there has a mean streak in their bodies and their only objective is to help the birds.

This rescue service made us promises that they didn't keep. When they came to pick up the birds, they told us they were going to be thoroughly checked out and then sent to a foster home for a while. They stated it would take a "while" to find them a home. We were explicitly promised that we would be given updates on the process, and then periodic updates on our birds new living situation. When I signed the contract I was crying (and pregnant and hormonal) but the president of the organization never once asked me if I thought I was making the right decision, even though their organization claims to have the goal of keeping birds in their current homes. She also did not offer any advice or offer to help me work with the birds, but seemed eager to take the birds. She told us several times that they were going to a "foster" home.

I was very attached to the birds (since I'd had both of them from their hatch date 5 years ago) and immediately realized that I'd made a terrible mistake. When I called to beg them to allow my birds to come back home, they revealed that the birds had already been permanently adopted.

I was heartbroken and spent the next week contacting them and waiting to see if they would let my birds come back to their lifelong home. In the end they said "no" and that they felt the birds were better off staying in their current home (which they had only been in for 2 weeks at that point). I was completely shocked. We had purchased nothing but the best for our birds (cages, toys, food) and it was clear that we loved them very much. We were also the only owners they had ever known.

After the decision was made, I sent a Christmas card to them with a picture of my birds and a message at the bottom that said "We are heartbroken, please let our birds come home." Aside from the "Peace and a Happy New Year" message, this is the only message the card communicated.

2 days later I received a call from one of the member of this sanctuary. They said that I would never see my birds again, and that "I had never loved my birds, or I wouldn't have given them up." The woman who called me was absolutely nasty to me and ranted to me for 10 minutes, insulting me, even though I was crying, and also knowing that I had been through a month of heartache, and was experiencing a pending miscarriage.

They will not be keeping their promise to update us on the condition of the birds, even though I signed the contract under that agreement. I never would have signed the contract had I known they would break this agreement or known their level of integrity and compassion. Unfortunately, their contract is only a vague paragraph that doesn't back up any of the promises they made. After speaking to multiple organizations, they have all agreed that birds should never be put up for permanent adoption in less than a week, and should have been allowed to come home; each agency should take the time to monitor the birds health and let them and the previous owners adjust before placing them permanently.

I still cannot believe the way this organization treated my husband and I. I only hope that they treat the animals they rescue better than they treat the people they work with in the process. If you love your bird, I recommend you use an agency that puts all their policies in writing IN the contract. Do not take anyone's word, because you don't know the character of an organization until something goes wrong.
