I have been going to Dmitri's at 3rd and Catherine religiously for the past ten years. I have never had a bad meal or a rude server....until last night. A friend and I had put both of our names in without knowing until a while after we were waiting. When the gruff, manish, hostess sat us, I told her I had a bottle being held under my name. With the look she gave me, you would have thought I had murdered her mother! She had the gall to treat the four of us like second rate citizens the entire rest of the night, even after WE tried to apologize. I feel sorry for her boyfriend (or maybe girlfriend). I don't know who the hell she thought she was, but her behavior was SHOCKING and totally unacceptable. I never thought I would have a bad thing to say about Dmitri's, but I will think twice before I ever go back. There's other great seafood in the city. That girl needs a talkin' to.

Pros: BYOB

Cons: Snobby, rude, staff member/Decline in food quality

.

While the food was decent, the service was terrible. We walked in and no one took our name for at least five minutes. When they did take our name they asked if our party was there and I said no they were parking. We were then seated. After being seated, another woman came over and literally began to yell at us for sitting down before our party was there and lying about our party being there. I then explained what happened and she insisted that I had lied before even listening to what I said or noticing the fact that my foot was in a cast. I would have left however my foot is injured and casted, which is probably why we were seated before our party was there in the first place. We then waited 20 minutes to even order drinks. The manager was apologetic however the evening was already ruined. And the food was just mediocre. I was quite disappointed with the overall experience and would not recommend going there.

Their avocado grapefruit salad with almonds is wonderful, and they serve wine filled to the brim in cute short glasses. It makes the place feel like a family place, but a nice place at that.

The flavors are so fresh, almost japanese-style, so you can really taste the flavors of the food. Their house wine is also very flavorful, and this is a great place to just dig in and order many dishes to share with friends, that's what we always do.

As for service, I only remember good times, eye contact and service with a heart.

Pros: inexpensive, lots of vegetarian options

.

One of my local favorites that is consistent and never disappoints. The menu never changes and the service is outstanding. Try the hummus, and or the octopus... the best in town. The staff is friendly and hard working, & may as well be on roller skates because when the place is jumping it's really jumping! No worries though with servers like Jennifer you'll be waited on with kindness.

Pros: food, service & outdoor seating

Cons: minimal on street parking

Dmitri's is right around the corner from my job. I often go for a quick meal before evening meetings. I can have a decent glass of wine and great food like grilled octopus, shrimp pil pil, and the wonderful escarole and pasta. Service is fast & consistent and the food is dependably good.

One of my favorite's by far... Absolutely incredible food.. from the grilled vegetables, to the grilled octopus.. a must try... to the hummus platters and beyond... little bar area... can wait, especially in the warmer weather, at the bar, but WELL WORTH the wait!!!
and parking can be difficult, but would do it all again and again!

The quintessential BYOB is Dmitri's. Amazing, fresh and simple cuisine is best complemented with good friends and good wine. Always crowded, so be prepared to make convo and share humus with the table next to you. Try the shrimp scampi as an app., calamari, and the cioppino.

Pros: Fantastic food

Cons: I can't eat there everyday

I have been to Dmitri's on more than a dozen occasions, and I can say that it is a place I never tire of. The food is simple, but always fresh and absolutely delicious. The service is attentive, and they genuinely ensure that their customers have an enjoyable experience. I am a local neighbor to the establishment, and it's a popular favorite among residents of Rittenhouse Square. I defnitely would not agree w/ the most recent negative write ups, and would suggest this place to anyone who truly enjoys good food and good service. If you are looking for a fru-fru place to be seen, head elsewhere, but Dimitri's is tried-and-true and has never let me down.

This place could be graeat. You can get healthful food simply prepared. I love the taste of their plain broiled tilapia-- no frills, but good basic flavors. The service is pleasant and prompt. The problem is the amnience. The noise level is ridiculous and the patrons brind their small children and pets with total disregard for their fellow diners. The best thing they could do is calm the place down and appeal more to an adult, human clientelle.

Pros: free bread, free grapes

Cons: service, food is overrated

.

Runny tzatziki sauce, bland hummus, and an overall feeling of laziness permeate this place. Nothing about the food feels authentic, and it seems as if it was just slapped on a plate and flown at the door. On top of that, the fast food furniture made us feel like we were at a pizza joint. Philly needs a good Greek restaurant, 'cuz this sure ain't the real deal.

This place sucks. Everything execpt the hummus was bland and awful. The fish was cooked well but had no flavor. Way overpriced for the quality of food.

I've been to the Pine Street Dmitri's on several occasions. Each time I'm treated to great, fresh seafood (the hummus and flounder are to die for), adequate service, and, if you arrive before 6:30, pleasant, soothing surroundings. Unlike many reviewers on this site, I actually had a terrible experience at their Queen Village location - the hostess was coarse and suggested that my idea of sitting at the bar while waiting for a table (which I've done several times elsewhere) was gauche. Also, that location strikes me as MUCH more crowded. At both locations, though, great food and great prices, so really, who can complain too much?

I disagree with the editor -- "It's just like the other Dmitri's but with more seating and a liquor license." Nah, it's not just like the other Dmitri's. I've been to both Dmitri's numerous times, and the Queen Village one's food has been consistantly better (with screw-ups twice at the Pine St location) and the service better in Queen Village. The Citysearch reviews/ratings reflect the difference. If you want the real Dmitri's, go to the other side of town!

Pros: Food (Sometimes)

Cons: Service, Not BYOB

With average food and average ambience one would think the staff (especially the manager) would try their utmost to be personable, accomodating and service oriented. WRONG. This place is the pinnacle of rudeness and lack of concern for their customers. I guess I should have beleived the many negative reviews already posted on Citysearch. Good rice pudding.

I've never had a bad experience at Dmitri's. I've been there over a dozen times in the past year and the food is always impeccable, the portion size is adequate, and the ambience is relaxing. It's perfect for a pleasant, afforadable night out with a loved one and/or a few friends. To top off a fantastic meal there I recommend a chocolate pot (yum!) and a Lambic Framboise to wash it down. It's the perfect combination.

I was reluctant to drive from Phoenixville to celebrate my son's birthday (he's 22 and attending Penn) after reading several bad reviews about this restaurant. I took the chance since my son enjoyed the food several months ago. It was raining and I was with my elderly aunt who has difficulty walking. We arrived an hour earlier and although the manager did not appear to be very friendly, I asked him if we could come inside. He allowed us to wait inside for an hour until the restaurant was officially open. We were patient in waiting at the bar and finally they seated us at a table near the kitchen. We were served our meal by three different waitresses and they were all polite. I loved the freshness of the Greek food. Although, the personnel are not overly friendly, there service was good and the food was delicious.

over the past five years we have eaten at dmitris at least 3 times per month. Yet, the staff just gets more rude with each visit. Recently, we tried to order takeout (pay for food without using a precious table) and they randonmly decided that they wouldnt allow us to take out food. Furthermore, the waitstaff will wait 20 minutes to turn over an empty table while people just sit and wait. On one occasion a party of 4 friendly with the waitstaff were allowed to cut the entire list. The food is decent, but probably not worth the aggravation.

Our service was fine up until the server decided to leave (his shift was over) without telling us or giving us a check or offering us dessert. When we finally got the check from another server 30min later, we left a 10% tip. After we left, a server came running into the street after us to question us on the tip we had left! I went back to the restaurant to complain to the manager who informed me that the policy of Dmitri is to confront customers who do not leave adequate tips. He informed me that Dmitri has taken customers to court before.(!?) When I told him that I would probably never return, he said "oh well." I will never return and I recommend that you don't either.

This past Saturday I took some friends from out of town to Dmitri's for dinner. I was embarrassed by the worst experience I've had in a Philadelphia restaurant.

The food was actually pretty good and our waitress was very nice. When we were done, the host brought our bill to us, and stayed to watch while we calculated how much each person should pay. When we stood up to leave, he accosted us and asked, did you leave enough? Before any of us could even respond he grabbed the money and proceeded to count it gruffly right in front of us, and asked Do you guys eat often?

When we called to complain, the manager was apologetic, but she excused her host by saying he was under a lot of pressure, and that some customers had recently left without paying. I will never go there again.

One could get better service at Pat's after midnight than the experience we had at Dmitri's recently.

We arrived earlier than our party to a mostly empty restaurant, were abruptly seated and then flat out ignored...until the restaurant began to fill up and our friends (to our embarrassment) had not yet arrived...then somehow, magically we were visible and subsequently harrassed every two minutes about the status of their arrival. When our friends finally got there, we were resituated into a cramped table, and had our food and beverages literally tossed at us the rest of the night...the entire staff joined in on the punishment.

An even slightly more professional staff would have never seated us without the rest of our party and could have handled their blunder with a bit more grace. To explain it in "Dmitri's waitstaff-speak"-we were, after all, financially worth three tables of two.

after goaded by several friends, i finally gave in and set foot into the dimly lit establishment. the service was atrocious, as evidenced by the waitstaff. i had to practically promise my first born to get their attention and waited 25 minutes for pita and hummus, a dish that only requires cutting and scooping. it was even more difficult for them to produce the wine list and by the time my dinner was over, i was ready to apply for medicare.
however, the food was delicious with very fair prices. but the food is definitely not worth the time wasted waiting to be served.

I am generally not the type to post messages on these boards or to complain about a bad experience at a restaurant but my experience at Dmitri's was so bad I felt the need to vent. The mussels that I ordered from, in my view, a very limited and often overpriced menu, were inedible because they were full of sand. Our waitress, who was very friendly, forgot a simple substitution that I had requested and then proceeded to charge me the full price of the mussels. I will never return to Dmitri's again and am advising all of my friends to avoid it as well.

Dmitri's is very "Philadelphia." Unpretentious, delicious, inexpensive. This branch is roomier than the original in Society Hill. I am not sure you have to go here if you are from out of town, unless you wish to partake of the Philadelphia lifestyle. But if you live here, Dmitri's is a wonderful place that would never exist in NYC and is your special place you can always depend on for delicious seafood.

I am new to Philadelphia, having moved here recently from NYC. Of course, being a New Yorker, I am snobbish about restaurants. An Italian friend of mine recommended Dmitri's to me, saying, "Da Dmitri si mangia bene," translating, "at Dmitri's one eats well."

Well, she was right. The appetizers and the main dishes were both delicious. I had the bluefish over linguini which was a risky order, but very good, and my girlfirend had the tilapia which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We were too full for dessert, so I can't comment, but the fresh grapes which were handed to us with the bill were a lovely touch. Overall, I would highly recommend DiMitri's.

I've eaten at the different Dmitris probably 100 times. I LOVE their food. So it makes me sad to relay our Pine St ordeal: I arrived late; my friends were finishing. When I asked for a menu, the waitress told me I would have to EAT AT THE BAR if I were the only one still eating! When I pointed out that there weren't 4 seats together at the bar, she said. "Oh." When I said, "Should we go somewhere else?" (thinking she'd snap out of it) she said, "Ok." I know it's a tough business, they've gotta turn tables over. But to piss people off has got to be worse for business than letting me stay a little longer. I will never return. That's 100 meals they gave up for the 3 they might have gotten by kicking us out. Am I dense, or is that a short-sighted policy?
