My favorite colorist of all time, Carlina Ortega left The John Barrett salon so I called the salon and they promised me that someone else could do what Carlina does to my hair, but they couldn't come close. I did a search and found

First, single process, semi-permanent color somehow faded\r
my hair. (Cannot figure this out but it did). Then Barrett offered to fix it. Second color blah brown - but okay.\r
Barrett's own cut - dreadful. He ruined my long, curly

I feel bad for the staff who work at this beautiful salon. They have been taken hostage by a front desk staff that runs the salon like gypsies or a cheap used car dealership. I tried this salon and was told it would be $125 for a hair

I was the last appointment of the night and was on time. Ross insisted on giving me lowlights, which was not what I wanted at all. When I asked him to instead just brighten my highlights up he became very snippy and acted insulted that I did not want to follow his suggestion. He then continued to do my hair in near silence, responding with one word answers when I asked him questions about how he liked New York, how long he's been here, etc... (trying to be friendly). At the end he charged me $40 more than I was quoted telling me that it was because it took him so long to do my hair. My hair is very thin so that reasoning made absolutely no sense. After I received a wash he came over while I was sitting down to get a blowdry and told me that I was making him miss American Idol! He left before my hair was even dry so he had no idea what it even looked like!!!! He was incredibly rude and overpriced. To top it off, the color was so bland that I had to go get it fixed. When I went to Carlina immediately she told me that I had no dimension and she fixed it right up. She was so sweet! DO NOT GO TO ROSS!

I have had my hair cut by John Barrett a number of times and was satisfied. I've also had my color done there, and as a brunette, it has always come out too dark. The problem is that every time I've gone there for the past year, the front desk manager (a Caucasian woman in her late thirties with very long, brunette hair) has tried to rip me off and overcharge me. Each time, I had to argue with her and get the owner to correct her attempts to add several hundred dollars to the bill. I will never go back to the John Barrett Salon because I refuse to put up with this unethical behavior.

The haircuts from John Barrett are $500! No haircut is worth that. A single process is $200---again, it's not worth it. You do not get anything extraordinary at the John Barrett Salon and there are many other salons in NYC where you can get great cuts and color for a LOT less money. It appears that John Barrett only wants rich old East Side ladies as customers. Too bad, since they don't have much hair. There are actresses and models who go there, but they don't pay.

Shame on John Barrett, who seems to have lost his humility.

John Barret does the best blonde....hands down!
Ross and carolina are awesome and so friendly.
Very expensive but worth it, ive paid $200 for orange highlights and now always go to John Barret now and not waste my time, money, or misery.
Plus you feel like you arent in NY-everyone is friendly and smiles at you the whole time and you can talk about anything with them!!
This is my favorite place in NYC.....go!

well....i've been to most of the top salons in nyc, so i thought i'd give this a try. I had a fantastic color job...really right up. However, my haircut was abysmal. Really much shorter than I wanted and uneven too. When I arrived back home, I was jealous of my Shih-tzus recent coiff. Back to the "real" salons for me.

Pros: Nice views of the park. good color department

I had a horrible experience at John Barrett. i decided to splurge and get my hair cut by John Barrett himself and it costs me $450. Definitely not worth the price. he literally cut my hair in 6 minutes (i timed it) and i now look like a monkey. the staff is so pretentious too -- it's sickening. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY.

She turned a horrible job done by someone at another high end salon into the best blond highlights I've ever had! She listened to what I wanted and used that to reccommend the shade of blonde that would work best with my skin and eye color. It looks so rich and vibrant, but at the same time soooo natural. I love it! I've never been more happy after getting my hair done. She's such a sweet heart, so down to earth, and get this, she actually works on Sundays too! My sister and my boss are switching to her. She's the best!

I had my hair cut and colored here for the first and only did it because I had a gift certificate for 200. So all and all it cost me only a little more than it would at my normal boring bumble and bumble experience. though i luv you bumble. thanks jimmy
John cut my hair with layers and layers of curls. i cant explain it. he cut my curls so they all fall in different lengths. It is amazing.
the guy william who colored my hair did it with all these different shades of brown and blond. so its looks brown but it the light it looks blond. its the closest thing to "natural " that I HAVE EVER HAD!!
the cutest part was the he colored my hair after a namesless pop star for 3 hours. that was cute.
all i ever so at bumble were the homeless trannis getting free cuts and connecticut rejects who live on jane street with a dictated fashion sense
it was just a better experience, i actually enjoyed myself while i was there and i look forward to going again. vogue was finally right about something

If you like your hair, don't come here. A womans hair is part of her personality, that's who you are and how you present yourself. I love my hair and take good care of it. Thus, I'm very picky when it comes to cutting or getting highlights. I had never heard about this salon before (I lived in Paris all my live and moved to New York recently), but I did hear good things about John Barrett himself, thus, I decided to try it out (besides, for $200 a haircut I didn't think they could mess it up). I'll put it this way, supercuts for $20 would have a done a much better job at it. Just don't do it, save your money, trust me. My loooong hair is now shoulder length, one single layer, flat, dull, boring. They might be good with costumers they have known to please after several visits, but if it's your first time, do your hair a favor...don't go. Just don't do it.

I get my weekly blowout here. Mahogany is an amazing stylist, very sweet, she knows exactly what I want and does it perfectly every time. I don't know who these people are who are talking about bad service, I've never seen anyone walk out of this place less than satisfied. It may be expensive but you have any interest in the health of your hair and you know what you want, you won't mind paying these prices.

My sister and I decided to have ourselves pampered with a cut and highlight while visiting NYC. The salon is beautiful with nice views of Central Park, the colorist knew exactly what they were doing and the blow out was the best we've ever had... and you pay for every penny of it... If you're ok with spending $375+ on a cut and highlight- GO FOR IT!!

I had a terrible color experience there. I would definately never go back there. I had been there before for haircuts, which were fine so I decided to get my hair highlighted there. The woman who colored my hair did a horrific job. I spent alot of money on it and it was just a horrific experience. The first color wasn't at all what I wanted (that took a couple of hours) then she tried to change it (it took a couple of extra hours and it was terrible). I had to come in for a color correction the next day and it still isnt what I wanted. I really think this place is overhyped especially with hair color and they don't satisfy customers. I have since had to get my hair recolored back to my natural color and everyone said it was a terrible job....they ruined my hair.

I just recently went to John Barrett to get hair extensions. From the consultation to the final blow drying of my new hair it was great. Richie is the extensions specialist of the salon and I am so glad I went to him. He is very knowledgeable on the extensions as well as my own hair. It also helps that he is a great listener since I talked his ear off for a good 5 hours which is how long the whole process took. But it was well worth it. I'm definitely addicted. If you are even considering extensions make an appointment for a consultation with him. You won't regret it.

I have been to the salon two times and I am never going back. I scheduled my appt and requested the John Barrett. I arrived and I had my hair washed and then I had to sit waiting in his chair for 15 minutes till he showed up. Haircut went great, until I went home and discovered he cut my hair uneven. I was pissed, due to the fact of spending several hundred dollars to get my haircut. I knew he had broken his arm and his arm just healed. I blamed the bad haircut on his arm. Several months later I gave John a second try. Sure, enough I got home again and I noticed a piece of hair that was uneven. That was the last straw and I have never gone back. You would think he would pay better attention to detail.

I asked the colorist at John Barrett for "a few blonde highlights" making sure my "natural color showed through", what I walked out with was ORANGE HAIR!!! Absoultely unbelievable. After putting a ridculous amount of blonde dye on my hair, the colorist then put, without asking, a gold colored gloss on top of the color. I walked out of the salon with my money in my pocket and a head of ORANGE HAIR. Blow dry staff was also beyond rude and very controlling. I DO NOT recommend going to this overrated salon!

$60 pedicure...it had to be fabulous, right?

First, they scheduled me for the wrong appointment time....not too bad though--only a 10 minute wait. Then....the "private pedicure room" touted on their web site is just an open back area everyone feels free to walk in. The area there a mess (e.g., garbage pail full of dirty towels overflowing onto the floor). My tub faucet was broken. The pedicurist made the water too hot. She admitted later she forgot to give me a hot towel. She even answered a cell phone call during my pedicure! The only good thing was a thorough exfoliation. Otherwise, it was awkward, bright and loud, with poor service from the pedicurist and no respect for privacy from every other person in the salon.

Bottom line: this is the most expensive pedicure I've had and it was not worth it at all. Live and learn.

I think the salon is fine but more importantly they have some of the best hair stylists in manhattan. I have been going to Vinchenzo for 8 Years..he used to work at Kim Lepine. He is the best..i promise you will never want anyone else to cut your hair after you meet him.

Each cut I've received here has been excellent. Avoid the manicures/pedicures - expensive and not skillfully done. Overall atmosphere is too busy to be a place to relax. They treat you a bit like cattle - ushering you here and there. But again, great cuts.
